Apply ids 5.1sp1 on Solaris 9

I like to apply Sun One Directory Server 5.1sp1 on Solaris 9. However, the installed path of it is not in /usr/iplanet/ds5 and /var/ds5. ( there is a lot of bugs in master-master mode in replication)
Is there any method to do that?
Lucas

nevermind. i've figured out i needed to run "/usr/sbin/directoryserver setup" first.

We discovered that when the user password is expired due to the field 'passwordexpirationtime' is past, there are two types of password expiration within iplanet ldap. One type of expiration will allow user to change the password by themselves, however, the other type did not
We discovered that when we put a 'Z' on the field passwordexpirationtime, it will show the first type of password expiration that user can change their password. When we remove the 'Z' from the field passwordexpirationtime. it will not allow the user to change the password by themselves, we provide a screen dump at the end.
Moreover, the problem may be triggered by other event instead of adding a 'Z' on the passwordexpirationtime field
Here is the screen dump for you to investigate, you can see that the output with 'DSA is unwilling to perform' is the type where user can change their password, while the output with 'Invalid credentials' is the type where user CANNOT change their password.

I know there's nothing to do with 'zuru' suffix, ldap schema supports both of attribute

    Question:
    - Under what condition the LDAP will complain "DSA is unwilling to perform" or
    "Invalid credentials"
    - Any hints to resolve the problem

If something had changed recently, drill into that.
Do a hardware RAM test to confirm HW level soundness.
You may capture the core dump or similar information and send it to Microsoft for analysis.
They may ask you to do the usual thing: apply W2KSP4 and/or OS and security patches.
You also have the option of migrating IDS5.0/Windows to IDS5.2Patch3 (also as Sun Java System DirSvr 5.2) running on Solaris10 x86.

  • Installing iDA on iMS 5.2 w/ iDS 5.1sp1 configuration?

Attempting to find documentation on how-to instructions and/or necessity of installing 'optional' plug-ins 'Class of Service' and 'Directory Entry Counts' per the install docs of the iMS 5.2.
iMS 5.2 reference to iDS 5.1 docs is dated and not explicit as to what is required for iMS 5.2 configuration.
With iDS 5.1 sp1 install , appear to have Class of Service plug-in, but is it functional? Could not find reference to 'Directory Entry Counts'.
    Assistance appreciated.

Yes, we have moved forward with this. We have an iMS 5.2 w/ iDS 5.1sp1 and the iDA 1.2 for msg/collab set up and undergoing testing. The iDA setup was surprisingly seamless. The SSO functionality configuration went without a hitch. Have not yet tested Class of Service, but soon. As mentioned it appears bundled with iDS 5.1 and iDA at least seems to recognize its existance.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • If have installed iDS 6.0 on Solaris 8 Box

I do updates nighlty vi ldif and use ldif2ldap (which calls ldapmodify -c -a ...) but it only adds entries to the database what if I make a change to an existing user in my ldif? From what I can tell, it doesn't get proagated. How can I rewrite the data or make sure the is uploaded with new data.

Is this Directory Server 5.0? The title might have a typo, it's saying that you are using 6.0.
I believe that when you are using ldapmodify -c -a,
the -c flag stands for continue on error and the -a
flag allows you to add LDIF entries to the directory without requiring the changetype:add LDIF update statement. This provides a simplified method of adding entries to the directory. This option also allows you to directly add a file created by ldapsearch.
What you are actually wanting though, I believe is
    a changetype: modify,
as the Directory entry already exists, but you just
    want to change one attribute.
If you scan through the access logs when this operation happens, you might see an err=20 for that
addition, which should have been a modification. Err=20 stands for type or value exists.

  • Solaris 8 login using iDS 5.1sp2

I have recently installed the Sun ONE Directory Server 5.1 sp2 onto a Solaris 8 machine. I would like to setup both the directory server and Solaris to work with one another. I need to know which fields to add to the Directory Server, as well as any changes I need to make on the Solaris machine. I've been through several docs from Sun blueprints, the Sun knowlege base, and through these forums, but I haven't had any success fixing my problem. Eventually I will need assistance configuring the Directory Server to enbale Windows 2000 logins as well. I will also need to know how to setup Windows 2000 for LDAP authentication.
If anyone can be of assistance, I would appreciate it.

I had a heck of a time getting this to work with just the install of iDS 5.1sp1. I could find no documentation on this at all. Finally here is what I did:
1.) Install Netscape Directory Server 4.1.6sp1 (included with your Solaris 8 CD pack).
2.) Run the Native LDAP setup script from blueprints (SUN)
3.) Add a user or 2 to test your setup.
4.) install a new Directory Server that is iDS 5.1sp1 (or sp2 in your case)
5.) Migrate your native LDAP setup to iDS 5.1sp2.
I have a few issues to work out, but all in all it should work. If you read through the posts in this thread, I have outlined what I did to migrate my data to iDS 5.1sp1 from NDS 4.1.6sp1
    thanks,

  • How to apply metrics for different platform

    Hi,
If a metric has different code for different platform, or the metric only runs on some specific type of system, how can we apply it to a group of hosts?
For example, I have a metric that checks only Sun T3 types of systems. I can create a group of hosts that are T3 type system, but how do I apply the metric to this group?
The other example is the way to collect data is different for Soaris and Linux platform, can I have 2 metrics, one apply to the group of Solaris machines, and the other apply to the group of Linux machines?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can use EM groups and monitoring templates to accomplish what you want to do. For example, create a group for Solaris hosts and a template to push out appropriate metric settings for the group.

  • Update from Solaris 10 1/06

I want to install the latest Sparc Solaris 10 recommended patch cluster
Readme says it can be applied to a system running Solaris 10 3/05 ("FCS") or a later Solaris 10 Update release.
    I am running Solaris 10 1/06
I assume that is earlier then 3/05 ????
If so, what are my options for upgradeing to the latest patch level?

    Well..
The X/YY number indicates the month/year it was shipped (or built)
    So
Solaris 10 3/05 was probably built in March 2005
Solaris 10 1/06 was built in January 2006
    .. so Solaris 10 1/06 is newer than Solaris 10 3/05..
    .7/M.

Hello, I had the same problem (repeatedly) until I did this, it works!
Remove sim, very very lightly rub the sim card's contacts (the metallic parts) with a standard pencil eraser. I suspect its just a micro-residue from the manufacturing process interfering with complete contact.

  • Problem with VMS 2.2 w/ IDS MC 1.2.3

    Hi,
We've been trying to get our new Cisco IDS 4235 sensor + VMS Basic to work for the last few days but with no success:
    1) Install CiscoWorks VMS Common Services 2.2 with SP2 with the supplied vms 2.2 startup disk
    2) Install IDS MC 1.2.3 from the startup disk
    3) Upgrade our IDS 4235 to the latest IDS signature
    - upgrade from 4.1(1)S47 to sp-4.1-4-S91
    - upgrade from sp-4.1-4-S91 to sig-4.1-4-S131
    4) Apply IDS-sig-4.1-4-S131.zip Sig Update on IDS MC 1.2.3
    5) Successfully add our ids-4235 sensor with IDS MC using auto discover setting
    6) IDS Security Monitor shows TLS-Connected status, etc
    The issues we're facing:
    1) unable to view any generated reports
    - it's forever under the scheduled report tab
    2) unable to view any ids events
The funny thing was we managed to generate and view reports on our first installation but an ids signature update went wrong forced us to reinstall the whole thing (including Win2k).
Is it because we apply IDS-sig-4.1-4-S131.zip without applying the sp-4.1-4-S91 on the IDS MC first?
IS the IDS MC 1.2.3 download available at cisco.com the same version as the one included in the startup disk? ( I think ours was IDS MC 1.2.3.1224)
Do I need to apply the Update 1 patch?
    ( I don't think so since we're already on CS 2.2 w/ SP2 )
    Many thanks for any help.

Go directly to the IDS Device Manager panel (not the VMS) and check whether the sensor is generating reports. If its ok check VMS logs(audit log?) for errors in communicating with IDS/generating SecMon view.
I had couple updates go wrong, the only thing to do was to reimage the sensor and reinstall all updates on it.
You can try to protect your self from future problems with updates, try searching the forum for the link provided by cisco employee, which gives a 4-1(4)e patch to the sensor, which *might* fix the problem with later updates :)

  • Patch Requirements for Building Oracle 10g on Solaris 10

    Hi,
I am about to install Oracle 10g 10.1.0.2 on Solaris 10 (Sparc). I have looked at the Oracle docs pertaining to this process and they seem to indicate that I need to apply a few patches to solaris. I know that sun currently charge for their updates and I was just wondering what service plan I should purchase in order to get access to the appropriate patches. Would the basic service plan be sufficient? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
