Apply Mail in Lion

Im enjoying using Apple Mail in Lion.
However, I cant stand the way the emails are automatically threaded and the small blue triangles ('Twisties') that hid the various need to be clicked on to see whole thread. How can I disable this function?

    How can I attach an image without the image is in the email body? (using the new mail the Lion)
    I want in attachment, not in the body mail.

    I think your only solution is to zip the image files first and then attach them.
    Read this from a site I found:
    Sending Graphical Attachments -- When you attach a graphical image to your message, the recipient of your message sees the image inline (that is, in the body of the message) if her email client supports inline display. ("Take Control of Email with Apple Mail" contains a table listing the capabilities of popular Mac and PC email clients.) If a client does not support inline display (or the recipient has turned off the inline display option), the file appears as an attachment that must be opened in a separate program.
    On the one hand, an inline image is easier for the recipient to see - all she has to do is look at it. On the other hand, inline images can be frustrating to scroll through. If you do not wish to send a graphical image inline, you must compress the file before attaching it - Mail, sadly, lacks a built-in compression option, though fortunately for Panther users, the Finder offers Zip compression without requiring a separate application.
    Note that when you compose a new message, Mail always shows attachments in the body of your message. You can manually drag them somewhere else, but many email clients display all attachments in a separate list, regardless of where you place them in the message body.
    If you paste an image into a message or drag & drop an image from another window (say, a Web browser), Mail converts the raw image data to an attachment in TIFF format. On the other hand, if you drag & drop the icon of an image file (or use the Attach button to locate the file using the file browser), Mail leaves the attached image in its original format. This difference is significant, because although most email clients can display JPEG images just fine, support for TIFF - especially in non-Mac email clients - is less common. If possible, I suggest attaching image files as opposed to pasting or dragging in raw image data.

  • Is there a way to limit the frequency of the "autosaving drafts" feature in Mac Mail on Lion?

    Using Mail Version 5.0 (1244.2/1244.3)
    On MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.1
    Wondering if Is there a way to limit the frequency of the "autosaving drafts" feature in Mac Mail on Lion?
    Looked all thru preferences and googled the crap out of this and can't seem to find the answer I want.
    Basically, I have my mailbox behaviors set up exactly the way I want them. (ie deleted messages get saved to my "Trash" folder on the server) I do not think I should have to change them, but because of the autosave feature saving almost every 3 characters typed, I have an over abundance of versions saved in my Trash folder. This problem would be solved were there a preference somewhere I could select to save drafts "manually only" or "opened messages save when quitting" or something along those lines.
    Is this a preference setting already that I am missing?
    I would settle for a rule, just not sure what perameters should be set for this to work.
    Help

    Typically a server has a settable parameter to limit concurrent connections. Check the server's documentation.

  • Can you copy/paste files from the Finder to Mail in Lion, or drag them onto the Mail icon in the Dock to create a new message and attach the files to it?

    Message title says it: Can you copy/paste files from the Finder to Mail in Lion, or drag them onto the Mail icon in the Dock to create a new message and attach the files to it?
    I can't find anything in the Knowledge Base that says these two options no longer work or still do.
    I do not have a system capable of running Lion, but I need to know the answer nonetheless.

    Gee, I don't know: "paste attachments mail Lion"? ;-)
    One further question, if I may: in Panther (which is where I've aggregated nearly 7 years of mail), if you copy more than one file in the Finder, switch to Mail, and paste the files into a new message, only the file names paste in. If you copy one file and paste it into a Mail message, you get the file, not just the name. Is that still true, or has that (IMHO) bug been fixed since 10.3.9?

  • Does anyone know how to get apple mail in Lion to connect with Exchange 2007?

    Does anyone know how to get apple mail in Lion 10.7.2 to connect with Exchange 2007?  It worked perfectly with Snow Leopard... upgraded to lion and it won't work.  We use Exchange 2007 with SP 3 and Rollup 4.  Won't connect... and I can't get Apple to give me any direction.

    We finally got it to work today.  We had to call and pay for the microsoft support service, but the issue was on the server end.  We had to go into the iis manager... went to sites... when to default website...and changed the SSL settings for Auto Discover, EWS Exadmin, echange, exchweb, owa... and the rest..
    Change the settings to ignore client certificates.
    Problem solved. Can finally send and receive.

    Mail under Lion: sent mails do not appear in the sent folder. What is to do?

    So, Where sent messages are stored?
    Because if I go into my email account nothing appears in the outbox?Of course not. Why would it appear in your e-mail reader's outbox when your e-mail reader did not send the e-mail ?
    my Pl/sql looks like:
    BEGIN
    utl_mail.send(sender => '[email protected]',
    recipients => '[email protected]',
    subject => 'Test',
    message => 'HOlix');
    END;And this results in the Oracle database server to contact the mail server and send the mail. Your e-mail client is not part of this process. Your e-mail reader does not know about that e-mail. Your e-mail reader is a client- not a server. It has no reason to know what another e-mail client (your PL/SQL code) send or did not send.
    You want an outbox? You need then to design and code one for your PL/SQL mail client.
    I dont understand what happen?Perhaps you should read up on WHAT a mail (SMTP) server is, HOW it works, and WHAT a PPOP3/IMAP mailbox is, and HOW that works?

    You have never elaborated on those reasons.
    Have you ever looked at all the posts on these forums about Mac Mail? More then for any other Mail program on any other forum
    You should know better than to extrapolate conclusions from such questionable sources. Data on troubleshooting forums is always biased towards trouble, so you have no data about the ratio of people having trouble to people not having trouble. Further, comparing to other forums is similarly meaningless. Mail is the default e-mail client on the Mac, and will have a much higher portion of the market share than Thunderbird. So of course it will have more complaints, because more people are using it.
    If you have concrete reasons to constantly bash Mail, rather than hearsay and unscientific "data," I'm all ears.

    What is the extension for mail in lion?

    What do you mean exactly, that you're looking for com.apple.mail.plist?
    If so, it should be in the Preferences folder like it always is. But Lion hides the Library folder, which holds the Preferences folder, so you'll probably have to use one of the techniques to reveal the Library folder.

  • Conversation view like mail in lion

    Hi! I am not able to see the mails in the usefull conversation view I have in Lion when the messages are orgnised in thread. It's seems that ios5 organized the similar messages in thread and when u click on it it shows the mails separated each other and not together like in the Conversation view  of Mail for Lion.
    Can u help me please?
    I would be really gratefull if u can answer me. Thanks

    Alberto

    Well, I tried that and all connections were successful.
    However, I just tried something else.  I had an online Exchange account that I have been using, but recently deactivated the account, and moved the mail servers to my own domain.  I had left the Exchange server account active to give the system and accounts time to migrate and sync, etc.  On a whim, after your above email, I deleted the inactive Exchange account and that seems to have fixed it.  I don't know why, though, because all email accounts were set to use mobile SMPT2GO for all outgoing mail, and that account was turned off on the server side.
    For anyone else having this problem, I also tried the various fixes in the thread here.  There are some good ideas, though they didn't work for me.

    I'm not sure there is a forum for Office for Mac Product Forums, I'd recommend posting there is no one here is able to help.

  • Transfer Entourage 2004 in Tiger to Mail in Lion

    I've been reading postings for hours but I haven't found an answer to my specific question.
    I just bought a refurb May 2011 iMac that was delivered with Lion installed. I've been using a 2005 G5 running Tiger and Office/Entourage 2004. I'd like to know if there's a way to transfer all the information from Entourage to Mail.
    I've seen posts about using Sync, but I don't know what is supposed to happen after you click the check boxes. The two computers are connected via a LAN in my house, so there's no mail server.
    I've also seen posts about using the "import" function in Mail, but it tells me it can't find Entourage (probably because I'm on the iMac and Entourage is running on the G5).
    I also bought Snow Leopard 10.6.3 from the Apple store because I have several dozen programs that I want to continue using but that won't run in Lion but I haven't done anything with it yet.
    So, here's my question: Is there a (hopefully painless) way to transfer ALL my settings and info (accounts--I have approximately 15 accounts set-up in Entourage--, schedules, existing e-mails and folders, address books, calendars, etc.) from Entourage 2004 to Mail in Lion? I exported my Identity from Entourage and I transferred the Main Identity file on my iMac, but I don't know what to do with it now. I've figured out how to transfer the folders (via drag-and-drop mbox files) but I want everything transferred.
    Also, I've not seen anything about transferring accounts from Entourage to Mail at all.
    Am I asking too much?
    Thanks!
