Apply patch without CSI? (testing)

Hi,
I'm a recent(-ish...last July) grad and currently going through Oracle docs/ppts & trying things out to try and make up for some of that "2 years work experience" requirement that all junior DBA roles seem to have. I'm currently going through the 2 day guide & reached the end (patching) but metalink asks me for a CSI =( alternatives or do I just have to upgrade from 10.2 to 11 instead?

does It mean, while installation /upgrade its asked CSI ?
Of course if you do not have you can ignore(you wont be having support) later also you can configure by using (OCM - oracle configuration manager)

  • Applying patches without pre-requisites

    Hi,
What effect does it have when applying patches without pre-requisites.
As in R12 no pre-requisites are checked if we miss any pre-requisite what effect will it have in the system?

    Hi,
It is a must you apply the pre-requisite patches.
we miss any pre-requisite what effect will it have in the system?
Pre-requisite patches are delivered in some cases in order to rectify bugs that have been a consequent of the patch that is being applied. Or in some cases, pre-requisite patches are applied as they act as a mandatory patches in certain cases.
There are probabilities that the patches may not fix your respective issues if the pre-requisite patches are missed. It is always recommended a MUST, you refer the README and apply the pre-requisite patches.
    HTH!,
    Thanks &

  • Access (public) WebLogic patches without CSI / My Oracle Support?

    Hi,
I would like to access a (hopefully public) patch to upgrade from WLS 10.0.3.3 to WLS 10.0.3.4. I am using the (publicly available) server for development as a contractor.
However, downloading patches now requires to have a "My Oracle Support" membership. I think I had downloaded patches from BEA in the past without such a membership? To register for this service, a Customer Support Identification (CSI) is required. The complete WLS is publicly downloadable, so I do not understand why a support contract is required to access the patches?
Maybe there are other possibilities and someone here can help me?
    Regards,
    Gerd

I've got the exact same issue...I've got 11.2.0.1 installed using the developer license, and the application I'm running has some errors that stem from a bug that has been fixed in 11.2.0.2, but I can't find a way to access the patch without a CSI.

  • Apply patch without database

Hi, I install oracle 11.2.0.1 software without db to my os.
Before creating a new database I want to apply the patches which this version needs.
Is this possible or should I create db and apply the patches later? In patch document,
it mentions the steps as I already have db. Thanks.

    efendicans wrote:
I won't move the db. I will create a new one and import a schema with datapump from another db(10.2.0.2). As I understand from your replies I can patch binaries, create db and then import schema(without applying the db steps in patch document). Am I right? Thank you.Again, it depends on how you create the database. Go through the dbca wizard and select "custom" instead of one of the pre-defined databases. When you choose "custom", the script that gets generated to create your database starts with nothing and does a CREATE DATABASE. So your database is created from the git-go with the patched system. If you chose one of the pre-defined database types, it gets created by restoring a 'seed' database that was most likely created at the base level, so would need to have the database portion of any patches applied.
I never use the pre-defined databases, for this very reason.
(PS it would be very educational for you to go through dbca twice, once for a pre-defined db, and once for a custom. At the end, simply select 'create scripts' WITHOUT actually creating the database. Then study the scripts.)

  • Applying Patches in Solaris 10 x86

    Hello,
    I have been testing Solaris 10 x86.
I am trying to determine the best method for applying patches, as I do not have a Sun Service Plan.
I have used smpatch analyze and smpatch update to apply the required paches to my system, but I am not sure that I am getting the patches that I should be. It seems that when I run smpatch analyze and smpatch update, not all of the patches are applied (aside from the ones that should be installed in single user mode).
I know that without a service plan, I only qualify for hardware patches and security updates.
    Please advise,
    Thanks for your help.

  • Applying Patch 9449228.getting a message

    Hi Team
I am working on Oracle Fusion 11g. I applied the patch by following the read me text.****
But no where it is mentioned to start or stop the managed server in the read me text doc given with teh patch. Once after successfully installing the patch I am getting an message at teh end ..
    Verifying the update...
Inventory check OK: Patch ID 9449228 is registered in Oracle Home inventory with proper meta-data.
Files check OK: Files from Patch ID 9449228 are present in Oracle Home.
The local system has been patched and can be restarted.
    OPatch succeeded.
What does the statement mean.. ???
The local system has been patched and can be restarted.
I have gone through the actions.xml file it says to copy and xml pharser file to a Middleare home. What should i restart is it the Middleware Home or System where the fusion middleware is installed. Since it is copy operation do i need to restart the machine ....
    Thanks in Advance,
    Venugopal SSS Raja

Restart of all the servers of the domain will do. Restart of machine is not required. You should first test whether the bugs for which you applied this patch, has resolved after applying this patch, without restarting the servers (if it is not mentioned in README). If you think that still you are experiencing the issue, then restart the servers and test again.
You may also raise a case with support in case you think that without restarting the server, patch is not working (support should consider it as a documentation bug)

  • Is it possible to do DST patch without reboot on Solaris 9

Hi - I have some machines that are difficult to schedule downtime on, and am
wondering if I can manually stop/start processes that are affected by
113225-08 and 112874-33 patches so that I could apply them without rebooting.
    Is this possible?
Thanks very much for the help,
    Judy

The reboot ensures that all processes are restarted.
Any processes that are started before the timezone patch is installed will not see the update.
So if nothing else, I'd want to restart cron...

  • Problems applying patch 8.1.7.1.1

WE HAVE 2 SEPARATE INSTALLATIONS AS FOLLOWS:
    1)
    NT4 / DB 8.1.7.0 / iAS 1.0.2.0(portal 3.0.7) all under same machine
WE USE THIS SERVER FOR TESTING
    2)
W2000 / DB 8.1.7.0 / iAS 1.0.2.2 (portal 3.0.9). db in one server, iAS in another server.
WE ARE PLANNING TO USE THESE SERVERS
    FOR PRODUCTION.
WE WANTED TO APPLY PATCH 8.1.7.1.1 IN THE PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT BUT WE DECIDED TO TRY IT FIRST IN THE TEST ENVIRONMENT.
WE STARTED THE INSTALLATION AND ALL WENT FINE UNTIL STEP 5 ,WHEN YOU NEED TO "CONNECT INTERNAL" AND RUN SOME SQL SCRIPTS (CATALOG.SQL, CATPROC.SQL, etc...)
WE COULD NOT CONNECT AS INTERNAL. THEREFORE, WE COULD NOT FINISH THE WHOLE PROCESS FOR THE PATCH INSTALLATION.
TO MY SURPRISE, THE DB AND THE PORTAL ARE STILL WORKING NORMALLY!! IS THIS REASONABLE?
CAN I RUN THE SQL SCRIPTS REQUIRED IN STEP 5 AS "SYS" USER INSTEAD OF "INTERNAL"?
    TKS!!

    TKS PHILIP!
IN ORDER TO CONNECT WITH "SYS" THEN THE DATABASE HAS TO BE UP AND RUNNING.
I DON'T REMEMBER THE INSTALLATION STEPS MENTIONING TO START THE DATABASE PRIOR TO RUN THE SQL SCRIPTS (UNDER "INTERNAL").
    ANY ADVICES?

  • Applying patches to 11.1.0.7.0

I have installed 11.1.0.6.0 on linux 64bit. I've also applied patch 6890831 to upgrade to 11.1.0.7.0. Is there any way of easily applying all the subsequent 500+ patches to the database (critical cpu updates, bug fixes, etc.) without doing them one by one, as this would take far too long?
I notice patch bundle 9025144 is availble for a similar purpose, but for windows. Is there nothing similar for linux? Thanks.
Edited by: SJM on Nov 16, 2009 8:53 AM

Don't know if this helps but if I understood you correctly you can cd to the location where the patch was downloaded and do the following:
    cd patch_directory/
    opatch napply -id (ID_LIST) -skip_subset -skip_duplicate
    e.g.
    opatch napply -id 7155248,7155251,7155254,7375613,7609058,8309623,etc. -skip_subset -skip_duplicate
If there are that many of them you can do an ls and use a text editor to edit the ID_LIST.

  • Why do we apply patches

    Dear all,
I am very new to Oracle database, so question arise and I post them.
I need to know that why do we apply patches and what is DBA's advice regarding applying patches.
    Thanks to all
    ben

I am very new to Oracle database, so question arise
and I post them. Welcome! Being new to Oracle you should get used to have the documentation always handy and also use search abilities for example from this site. The Concepts guide is a good book to start reading from, and never stop actually (meaning, go back to it on a regular basis). Administrator's, Reference and SQL Reference are other hot titles.
Also, you could search forums about patches
I need to know that why do we apply patches and what
is DBA's advice regarding applying patches. There could also be business reasons that demand patch set or patches.
    - system compatibility requirements
    - upgrade of application components that use certain features, which might not work (properly) without patching
    - for Support it is advisable to be on the Current/latest Patch set

  • Can't apply patch level 14 to installation server

I'm trying to apply patch level 14 to the installation server using the nwsapsetupadmin tool.  I have installed previous patches with no problem, and I have just installed the Business Explorer patch with no problem.  But patch 14 for SAP GUI 7.10 fails.
    I click Patch Server.
    I select the patch. (gui710_14-10002995.exe)
It extracts and validates the patch.
I click Next to apply the patch.
I see a splash screen and a black cmd window appears for a split second.
Then nothing.  Here I should see a progress bar while the patch installs.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Tom

    Hello ALL...
for the reason you must have a look in the NWSAPSETUPADMIN.log...
Or you open an OSS MESSAGE in BC-FES-INS  and  attach there the log files from
    your installation server.
Then i can have al ook at this and can support you.
A possible reason is that the patch is already installed on the server...
Or an exception is raised in the .NET framework...
All is possible, but it is very hard to analyse without the logfiles.
    Best Regards, Sven

  • How to preserve customizations while apply patches

    Good day,
Please how do you go about preserving your customizations while applying patches.
    Thanks

If you are forced to customize a standard oracle object, register it in $APPL_TOP/admin/applcust.txt. Then you will get a warning while applying patches if your customized objects that have been registered in applcust.txt are going to be overwritten. Then you need to obtain the newly delivered version of the object and reapply your customization to it. If you do this in you development instance, you can reapply your customization in development, and migrate it to test and production right after applying the patch there.
