Apply Redactions

Hello everyone,
I need help with applying redactions. Even though I have redacted in many pdf documents, I have a specific document in which I can "Mark for Redaction" but I am unable to click "Apply Redactions". The button does not seem to be active.
Does anyone have an idear what the problem could be and provide a solution?
Thanks in advance.

Hi George,

  • When I Apply Redaction to the selected area the area is redacted, however the rest of the doc becomes unreadable. Is there a fix for this?

    FYI - I am using Acrobat X Pro v 10.1.13
    If I convert a MS Word Document to a PDF file the Redaction works fine without affecting the rest of the document.
    The problem I am describing below only seems to happen on documents that have been scanned to PDF from my Lanier Copier/Printer/Scanner/Fax machine MP C3502.  I purchased the Adobe PDF software for the machine so that I could scan from the machine directly to my computers. The scan arrives onto both of my computers, no problem. I can open them and print them with no problems. Both Computers have Acrobat Pro X software on them.
    Here is what I do:
    1. I receive an Invoice in the mail
    2. I scan it at 600dpi from my Lanier machine to my computers
    3. I open the scanned PDF doc on my computer
    4.I select Save As and give the doc a name
    5. I open the Tools and go to Protection
    6. I select Mark for Redaction
    7. I select the area I want Redacted
    8. I Apply Redaction
    9. I answer, Yes to the pop up window asking me if I want to Apply the Redaction
    10. Another pop up window confirms the Redaction is successful
    11. At this point I can see that the Redaction had occurred however the rest of the document appears washed out and I cannot read any other information on the document.  Thing such as bar codes or header in color all seem to be fine but all the type is washed out and unreadable.  I normally use Black for my redaction color however I have tried using other colors and I get the same effect.
    When I first installed the Acrobat Pro X software a few years ago I never had any problems,  I recently began updating the Acrobat software a few months ago and now I have this problem,
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thank you,
    BG10

    Thank you. I figured it out right before I heard from you.  Running the OCR before the redaction made it work correctly.
    Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.
    Make it a great day.

  • Can't apply redaction! Problem reading this document (16) Acrobat 9 pro

    I am trying to apply redactions to sensitve data. I go through all the steps, mark it for reaction etc.. but when I click to "apply redaction", I get the error message "There was a problem reading this document (16). I can't find an answer to this anywhere!
    The file I'm using originated from a CD sent to me from our retirement administrators. There are no restrictions on what I can do with the files.
    I've tried this on 3 different computers, using both Acrobat 9 Pro (with most current updates) and Acrobat 10 Pro and I always get the same error message. Even when I extract one page, rename it and try to manually redact (without using search and redact), I still get the same message.
    Any ideas???  I really need to redact social security numbers!
    Thanks
    I'm using windows 7 pro if that helps...

    Can't believe I didn't think of that! It worked!
    Thanks!

  • Apply Redaction warning. Can this be disabled in Acrobat Pro 9?????

    Using Acrobat Pro 9
    "You are about to permanently redact all content that has been marked for redaction......". Can I disable "Apply Redaction" warning????? Have tried using the method described for Acrobat X which suggests:
    Edit - Preferences - Documents: Enable "Adjust filename when saving applied redaction marks". Using the Suffix: _Redacted but warning still pops up every time you click the Apply Redactions button.

    This is the bare minimum script to be placed in a folder-level JavaScript file is:
    app.addToolButton({
        cName: "ApplyRedactionsSilently",
        cLabel: "Apply Redactions",
        cExec: "ToolbarButton_applyRedactions(this);",
        cEnable: "event.rc = app.doc;"
    var ToolbarButton_applyRedactions = app.trustedFunction(function(doc) {
        // Apply any redations that have been added
        app.beginPriv();
        doc.applyRedactions({cProgText: "Please wait while redacting..."});
        app.endPriv();
    Note that this doesn't include the code to automatically save, which can be dangerous since applying redactions cannot be undone.

  • Open pdf says "please fill out the following form" when I attempt to apply redactions, I get an error message.  How do I "turn off" the form portion of the document?  I assume that is the problem since I have not had this issue with any of the other files

    I am attempting to redact a large pdf file.  When I open the file, it has a bar across the top with the message "please fill out the following form".  I can mark redactions, but when I attempt to apply them I get a message saying, "In order to proceed Digital Signatures must be removed and the document must be fully authorized.  Do you want to make these changes and continue?"   I click "ok".  Then I get a message saying, "an internal error occurred."  How do I get around this problem?

    You cannot redact a signed document. This is because one of the things signatures guarantee is access to the OLDER document (i.e. there will be an unredacted copy in there).
    In general you cannot remove signatures, but sometimes you can. Look under the Signatures tab (right click on left vertical bar if there isn't one) to see if it is removable.

  • Acrobat Locks up when applying redactions

    I have Adobe Pro. 9.2.  When I tell the program to apply the redactions I have made, it just sits and spins... I have to, eventually, right click on the instance in the task bar to close the program.  I installe updates, and it still does it.  Please help!!!

    Good day Byrdie,
    After deleting the ARM folder, the update should work.  If you still have difficulty applying updates via the updater, you can do it manually here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows
    Unfortunately both update methods are fairly time-consuming as with Acrobat 9, updates must be applied sequentially.
    Kind regards,

  • PDF File "explodes" after applying Redactions

    I have a few pdf files which had some parts which should not appear in the final version.
    So I used "Search and redact" to find those parts and marked them for redaction.
    So far, so good, but as soon as I apply the redactions and save the files, they become approximately 2.5 times bigger then before.
    So I guess Acrobat had to rasterize some parts in order to redact.
    Is there a nice way to reduce the file size again?

    Does doing a File > Save As > Reduced Size have any affect?

  • Out of Memory when trying to apply redaction to a document, how can this be fixed?

    I have a user that is trying to redact a document, and when she tries to apply the redaction, she is getting Out of Memory error, any thoughts on this? Is it a computer memory issue or something in the program that I can dump something to make room?  Thanks.

    Hey,
    Please mention the configuration of your system specially CPU and RAM.
    This error usually occurs, if you run too many memory-extensive applications simultaneously. So try performing those redaction tasks after closing some of the background processes/applications
    Hope that helps.

  • How to programatically C# apply redaction annotation?

    I'm having trouble applying an existing annotation I made to my document, I can find it by its index, but cannot apply it, I also want to know how to programatically create a redaction annotation and application
    Following is my code:
    AcroPDDoc doc = avDoc.GetPDDoc() as AcroPDDoc;
    AcroPDPage page = doc.AcquirePage(0) as AcroPDPage;
    AcroPDAnnot annotation0 = page.GetAnnot(0) as AcroPDAnnot; <--- I've debugged and I can actually get the redaction annotation, but no luck applying it
    annotation0.Perform(avDoc) <--- Executing this line does not remove the protected text that is on the redaction annotation, how to accomplish????
    I appreciate your help, I'm strugling at how to apply and how to create redaction annotations to remove protected content from PDFs
    Thanks a lot!

  • Can I switch off the Save As default after applying redactions and just save

    I am using a Document Management system - I open the document to apply the redactions using Acrobat XI Pro, but then would like to save the pdf (instead of it defaulting to Save As which prompts me to save another version outside the DMS) - as the document management system creates its own rendition to publish to the website.

  • When I apply redaction, a white line partially appears around redacted area

    I’m hoping you can help me figure out an issue. I created a redaction action wizard in Pro X (Windows 7 Ultimate) to change the name of the month for 280+ client reports. I use a new copy of the master file each month (the month always being redacted is "september", the month with the most characters).
    The problem is that when I redact on a color background (using the matching color overlay), I get a fine thin white line that goes only across the top and right side of where the redaction box was (see below). Nothing across the bottom or left side – pretty close color match. The original files were created in Illustrator CS5.
    Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you. I figured it out right before I heard from you.  Running the OCR before the redaction made it work correctly.
    Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.

  • Redaction problem - when applied, boxes are created on all other pages

    We are redacting PDFs converted from PowerPoint. When we apply redactions, a block of color the same size and location of each redaction appears on every page. There is no background on the documents. I created redactions of different colors, and those different colors showed up on all pages when the redactions were applied.
    We can find no explanation or fix. A workaround is to make the redaction color white which blends into our document but we want to not have the blocks show up. There is a forum question from 2012 with this question but no answer.

    We are having the same problem as well. It does appear to be document specific and is reproducible. Could someone kindly look into this?

  • Redaction tool

    I am working in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to remove information from scanned documents.  I have used the mark for redactions tool to mark areas in the document that I want redacted.  I then saved the document so that I could send it to a colleague fro review.  This worked well.  The problem came when I went to apply the redactions the text for each redaction did not show up as it did in the previews, in some cases I had black boxes with white text and others white boxes with black text in my saved redactions before selecting the apply redactions.  In both cases the background black or white for the box color showed up but no overlaying redaction text.  Any suggestions on how to get my redaction text to show up?

    Thanks,
    I do know it's avaliable in the X 10 Standard version.
    What about the 9 Pro?

  • Redaction error: Bad parameter

    I am using Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 on Windows XP. I have spent about 90 minutes redacting an 83-page document. When I ran the "Apply Redaction" command, the progress bar showed the program going through the pages till 83. But it gave an error message "Bad parameter." Beginning at page 16, some items are redacted and others are left marked for redaction (i.e., a red box is around the text).
    Has anyone run into the problem before? Is there a solution?
