Apply Style or Favorites options in Live Type?

Hello, just trying to figure out live type, and I have a question.
I am using it to create info graphics on a dvd presentation, and I am wondering:
Do I have to manually format each different line of text, or is there a way that I can save a set of formatting parameters (font, size, drop shadow settings, color) and apply a style to given text, or do I have to format each line every time. I looked in the manual, and searched this forum and didn't find anything helpful.
I can't believe there isn't a way to do it, but I can't find it. Maybe saving it as a LiveType (even though there is no motion or effects)?
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Ken

You've got a couple choices here.
You can always copy a text track...paste it on a new track and then change your text.
If you have a more involved and layered graphics you could also create a template.
To save your project as a template:
1 Place the project file (.ipr) in a folder in this location: /Library/Application Support/
LiveType/Templates.
2 Generate a short QuickTime movie of the project (with the same name but an
appropriate movie extension, such as .mov or .mp4).
Once you do this, the template will appear in the preview window of the
Template Browser.

  • Exporting video clip from FCE4 to Live Type.

What is the correct way to save a video clip when exporting into Live Type so that you can access Live Type and place video clip in background to begin working?
    Thanks.

Find the frame that you want on your Timeline. Press I and then O to mark in and out on the same frame. Go to the FCE menu bar: File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion.
Click the Format button and choose Still Image.
Click the Options button. In the new window that appears, click its Format button. Choose TIFF.
Give the file a name and a save destination.
In LiveType, make sure that it's Project Properties (Edit menu) are set to match the codec used in FCE's Sequence setting.
Go to File > Place (not Place Background Movie, that no longer applies). Choose the image that you just saved.
You might have to make some adjustments to the image depending on the codec you are using in FCE. Post again with that information please.

  • Live type basics

I am running FCE/HD 3.5 with Live Type 2.1. I am trying to match a graphic (super) that is on the existing source video. The graphic would be simple: a persons name and job title with a colored rectangle bordered with a thin line. In Media 100 and Avid this is pretty easily done. The graphic also includes two smaller colored rectangles with smaller text, also border with a thin line. All thre are placed in the lower third of the frame. I know it's the 90's look, but that how it is. Can Live Type replicate this older style graphic?

    Thanks for all responses.
I have the Live Type Central tutorials - they are helpful - I'll apply them another time. My version of Live Type only has a few objects listed. Is that the way Live Type comes?
Photo Shop is out of my price range. All-in-all what was decided was to strip the text graphics with source and add basic FCE titles - kind of the opposite end of the jazzy titles in Live Type.

  • Live Type quality output

I am using LiveType to setup titles for my FCE video.  When I render the titles, they are poor quality.  I have render set to Normal.  How do I get better results?

Is Live Type vector based fonts? I thought it was. But I noticed that by moving the text postion on the screen the quality changes from smooth edges to jagged...???
Also the quality changes if I apply a drop shadow over "5" on the setting.
I have a clear background on the top of video footage.<
Are you watching your rendered output on an interlaced monitor or the computer monitor?
LiveType uses your vector system fonts where it can but the animated LiveFonts are either procedural renders or they are little movies, depending on the source font's series.
I can tell you this: LiveType produces lovely, sharp and cool text effects. Your settings and your output viewing options make all the difference.

  • Imac won't let me install Final cut studio 2..it will let me install the upgrade, but it has no live type and i need it to work on my current projects. How do I get Live type back installed in iMac

I just purchased an iMac for home and went to install final cut studio 2 and it gave me an error saying something about "PowerPC" not used or something like that. Installed the studio upgrade just fine...but it has no "Live Type" which I need to work on projects I have been using in my Mac Pro at my work place. How do I get "Live Type" to install in this iMac? Downloaded Live Type upgrade but that won't update cause there's no "Live Type" in the applications.

It sounds like you have Lion installed on your new imac, although your profile says SL 10.6.8 (you may want to change this.)
If you have the Snow Leopard install disc I believe you can install "Rosetta" from the extras folder which will then, if you have the original FCS2 discs , allow you to select and install Live Type and LIve Type content only from the custom install options.
I hope this will work for you.

  • Shortcut to: Apply (style), Clear Overrides  ?

    Hi there,
I'm working on a approx 100pg price list that I've set up a tables for, and the design of it has changed slightly (sigh). It looks like a basic excel spreadsheet and I have imported the text already. Basically, I'm going through and applying a cell style to various rows, not equidistant from each other -- some 3 rows apart, some 15. I need to, and have been, highlighting the row, right-clicking the particular cell style, and doing the "Apply (style), Clear Overrides" to get the desired result. So, what I was wondering, Is there ANY way to create a shortcut to do this? I know how to apply the style with a shortcut, but not the overrides option.
Even better, if anyone knows how to select multiple rows at once and apply, that would be fantastic.
Love this forum and thanks in advance!

I was just thinking about that cost/benefit analysis on my way to work this morning. If it takes me a whole hour to gin up that script, then how many months before I make those hours back in time saved? My parastyles always have numpad shortcuts (e.g. Control + numpad 8), and my "Clear All Overrides" shortcut is Control + Shift + numpad Enter, so it might be a long, long time before the saved fraction of a second from using a single script instead of two keyboard shortcuts that are right next to one another adds up to the hour of Javascript fumbling.
(Then again, if I cared that much about saving milliseconds, I wouldn't be posting this. )

  • Exporting from Live type as uncompressed

Does anyone know if it is possible to export from live type with no compression or in different codecs? I have this option in FCP and AE and my graphics and type look great when export using "none" compression or 10 bit uncompressed.

The default render from LT uses Animation codec which is completely lossless.

  • Applying style sheets to Jato

Is there an example of this somewhere or some documentation? I'm using Jato
    1.2.
Also, in the emails that fly back and forth I have seen a date sample
    mentioned.
Where is this? I have got the JatoSamples.war deployed and I don't see a date
example. I just wonder if I'm missing some other Jato examples.
    Thanks.
    Belinda

There is some confusion here. The JatoSample project that shipped with the
Developer CD does not include the Components samples (which includes the Date
example). The "live" sample that is viewable on the intenal web site
http://ias.red.iplanet.com/jato/ does include the Component samples.
We intentionally disabled the Component samples in the Developer CD version
because at the time that it shipped we had an unresolved issue with running the
Component samples on certain servlet containers. That issue has been favorably
    resolved.
The downloadable version of Jato 1.2 should contain a version of the JatoSample
which does have the Component sample enabled.

    Belinda,
Sorry for the delay. JATO is now available on http://developer.iplanet.com
and the JATO Sample WAR file is available separately for download - so make
sure you have this latest example. The sample is available LIVE on internal
sites which I will send you offline. We are working to have this and other
samples running live on the public web site shortly.
For the Date component example please check out the Components section in
the Index of the running application and the following in the WAR file
    WEB-INF/classes/jatosample/module1/E0130Viewbean.java
    WEB-INF/jatoSample.tld
    WEB-INF/classes/jatosample/components
Could you please elaborate on your requirements for style sheets. Other
than using style sheets normally as you would with JSPs, what are you trying
to do? We would like to be focused in our answers.

  • Apply styles to subpictures

Can I somehow apply styles to subpictures in Encore? Basically, I want to customize the look of text-buttons in three states: normal, selected and activated using styles (eg to make them glow, change stroke color etc) rather then simply change the color of the text.
I also tried to find an option to make a text as text or as button transperent (with a colour stroke style applied so you can actually read it) but couldn't :( Is it at all possible?
    Thanks for any advice

    In a word, no.
You may be able to apply styles, but they will be ignored when you preview the menu or build the DVD.
In the DVD-Video format, a subpicture is defined as a 2-bit RLE graphic overlay - one color value, and one opacity value. That means no drop shadows, glows, gradients, etc can be rendered by DVD players for subpicture information.
A color table is used for the subpicture layer that allows you to combine up to three of these 2 bit graphics. Using this color table, you can get a little tricky and use up to three different 2-bit graphics to make the subpicture look a bit more impressive. There's a tutorial on this site that shows how to do that.
But even using this trick, DVD-Video subpictures will never even get close to looking like Photoshop styles on a 32 bit monitor. :)
I don't understand the second part of your post. Can you clarify what it is you are trying to do there? (it seems separate from the styles question)

  • Placing Background move issue - Live type

I'm having trouble with placing a background movie in live type.  I encoded a 5 second movie in HDV 1080i60... I've set my project properties to HDV1080i60 and when I place the movie in the background it squeezes it to 4:3.  Am I missing something?  Thanks for any help!
    John

Thanks Christina.  I've set my project properties to 1080i60 and encoded my video using compressor and using a Quicktime conversion.  they both output the correct file.  my canvas in LIve Type is set to the 1080i60 but when I place the movie it snaps to what looks like a 4:3 format.
When I check my project props after placement, the size switches to "custom"  but still retains the 1440 x 1080 width and height.
Thanks for your quick response to my issue by the way... I 'm still not clear as to what is happening.  I was able to use the "place" options instead of "place background movie"....my canvas stayed at the 16:9 ratio but my video was somewhat narrower.  I used the transform capabilities (the handles on the placed video) of the video and the canvas as a guide and just sized it to the right ratio.
Hope this isn't too complicated of a reply
and Thank again for the reply

  • Live Type render error

just moved from fcp 5 to fcp 6. i opened my last project from V5 and everything looks ok but the live type fonts. Instead of seeing the font, i see "rendering error in live tpe file (and the name of the file below it) when i try to open this in the editor (live type) and play it, i get a "can not render- error 2048" can anyone help?

In LiveType, highlight the track that has your LiveFont on it.
Go to the text entry box and press command and A keys (select all).
Go to the Media Browser > Live Fonts and locate the Font that was used in the original project file.
Click on the font name, go to the bottom of the Media Browser panel and click on the Apply button.
    Save the project.

  • FCE not seeing new Live Type files correctly... (Leopard issue?)

There appears to be a problem in LiveType and FCE as of Leopard.
LiveType files created BEFORE Leopard was installed import fine, but files created AFTER Leopard was installed will not import and return an error:
File Error. 1 File Recognized. 0 Access Denied. 1 file unknown.
Live Type files that are rendered as movies are importable and that is the workaround. But of course they cannot be edited again unless the Live Type file is reopened and re-rendered.
IOW, no import of a Live Type file directly into FCE.
Pro apps download doesn't appear to apply to FCE and you need a FCP serial # to access it anyway.
    All suggestions appreciated.

Never mind. I figured it out.

  • Final cut crashes when Live Type credit is added

    Hi
I have FCP HD 4.5 A while back it kept crashing on me whilst opening, so I stopped using it. Tried it again over the weekend and it loaded, success! Cut a project together without any issues, but now when I try to add Live Type credits (not my forte) FCP crashes. Have tried dragging credit from the desktop and the regular import file option, but each time it crashes instantly. In the case of dragging the credit icon into FCP, it crashes the moment the icon touches the timeline. I'm relatively new to FCP but I'm fairly sure I haven't done anything different to my other projects.
Any help with this matter would be greatly received
    Oz

    Hi Adrenaline Crew
Thanks for the tip. Basically I wasn't rendering the credit first, just saving it to my desktop and dropping it into the film. I guess that was coursing the problem (sure I had started doing that before and all was well) Once rendered, and saved, like you said as diff, credit dropped into the project just fine.
Thanks again for your time. Now I suppose I have to get on with my work
    Cheers friend

  • Live Type Update has never occured

2 very savi mac users in my office told me that I just needed to go to the Apple and select Software Updates.
Since Live Type 1.2 was brand new I've never had a software update for this program. Has there been one released?

LiveType version 1.2 is the version that's included with FCP 4.5. That's as high as you'll go unless you upgrade to a newer version of Final Cut.
