Applying a 10.2.0.4 patch to 10.2.0.2 win. environment

Hello Gurus,
I have this server which has two databases.test and standby database.I want to apply upgrade patch to this for which we need to shut the databases. Are there any special considerations for me to keep in mind while doing this.
I am new to oracle and will be my first patch install. So please dont mind if any of my question sounds stupid .
Thanks for help
Bonne

Hope that you have found out the README.txt/html file in the patch by this time. If yes, refer the README.txt/html file carefully for any pre-requiste and post-steps before being applied the patch. Specually, check for the Standby Considerations, if any in the file.
Moreover, as this forum is for Apps/EBS, post your Database Related doubts/queries in the relevant Oracle Forums.

  • Patching/updating Java Applications in the WebLogic environment.

    Hi All,
I'd like to get some feedback on our process and hear if there is some better/different
ideas out there on how to handle patching/upgrading java applications in the WebLogic
    environment.
    Here is our process:
    1) We build using ANT our Enterprise application.
    2) We deploy our application using InstallAnywhere to drop the structure into
    an environment.
If a patch or update is needed, we again build the Patch/Update using ANT, generating
checksums for each file in every ear/war/jar file as well as any supporting files
(.xml, .properties, .sh, etc.) used in the production structure. We then compare
checksums against what is in production and come up with PATCH_(ear/war/jar) files
with only the changed classes and duplicate production structure with the changed
    supporting files.
Using ANT scripts and InstallAnywhere, we backup the files to be replaced in production,
overwrite supporting files, extract packages (ear/war/jar), overwrite classes
with new ones, re-package the ear/war/jar files into production environment and
    restart the server.
We patch at a class level due to the configuration settings internal to the package
files (ear/war/jar) that we don't want the customer to have to re-configure everytime
    we do a partial release.
Right now, the whole process is automated except the creation of the Patch ANT
script that extracts, overwrites updated classes, updates manifests, then re-packages.
Any ideas on improvements or complete re-engineering of our process to help so
we can get closer to 100% automation?
    Thanks,
    John

The chances of two applications running at exactly the same time are miniscule. If they each have a connection to the database, and are both trying to modify the same table, then chances are one will be slightly after the other its changes would be committed last. In the case where one might delete a row just before another tries to access that row, you're going to have some sort of problem. However, those circumstances are pretty rare, and even so, some small amount of exception handling can deal with them gracefully.

  • Patch conflict when applying the 10.2.0.5 Patch set on Windows 7.

    Hi everybody.
I have problem when install PSR 10.2.0.5 on Windows 7.
First, Oracle Client 10.2.0.3 installed successfull. I want upgrade from Oracle Client 10.2.0.3 to Oracle Client 10.2.0.5.
I downloaded Database10g PatchSetRelease10.2.0.5 for Microsoft Windows(x32) from E-Delivery Japan Site, then used it installed successfull but new ODBC is not added.
Because of that I used metalink for download 10.2.0.5 Patch 9 and OPatch utility release 10.2.0.5.0.
I extracted OPatch utility release 10.2.0.5.0 zip file directly under the ORACLE_HOME (Old Opatch is been overrided).
Then Opatch aplly command executed for 10.2.0.5 Patch 9 but the error has occurred.

  • Adobe Reader 11 Installation Package is getting more over 500 MB after applying 11.0.0.1 MSP Patch

    Hello,
I try to create an installable MSI Package with the MSP 11.0.0.1 applied to the 11.0.0 MUI Package. Then I want to deploy this to our clients in the company. I have done this with Adobe Reader X a couple of times very successful. What I have noticed now the original 11.0.0 Package has a size of 134MB if I apply the msp patch (the msp patch itself has 10MB) as usual the new package get a size of 583MB. This is too large and with Version 10 this was no issue at all. Does anyone has an idea why this is happening or seen the same behaivour?
    Thanks
    Ben

Did you find a solution ? I have the same problem with patch 11.0.03 and can't find any information...
Are we the only two that are bothered by this ?

  • Newbie Can not Apply 9.2.0.5.0 patch on windows 2000 server

    Hi all,
I am trying to apply patch set 9.2.0.5.0, to oracle database 9.2.0.1.0 release 2, but it seems imposible.
    I recive this msg:
There are no patches that need to be applied from the patch set Oracle9i patch set.
I have read the readme that came with the patch set but I don't realy understand what they want me to do. Cos I am real newbie with oracle.
    Can some one please help?
    Tanx in advance,
    Admir

    I got it.
You have to install the patch in the home dir of you data base and not the home dir that installer creates eachtime it starts.
Also, those commands, in readme file that came with the patchset, are sql command and after each one there should be ; . This doesn't say sometimes in the read me file.
Also when starting the migration tool use ; at the and of the command.
By the way, who writes documentation for oracle products? Don't they need to be fired?

  • Problem noticed after applying 10.2.0.3.0 patch

    Hi
    Can anyone please confirm this?
After the 10.2.0.3.0 patch was applied the following query that was executing correctly before the patch is throwing an error that - "A.Idc is an invalid Identifier" in the query that has the DateDiff function.
    UPDATE SAMPLE A
SET Sample_Col = SELECT (CASE WHEN EXISTS (SELECT      Y.End_Date
              FROM      SAMPLEB X, SAMPLEC Y
    WHERE      X.Idc = A.Idc
                                                                          AND      X.Mth      = Y.Mth
                                                                          AND          X.IND      = 'N' )
    THEN DateDiff('mm', (SELECT * FROM (SELECT Y.End_Date
    FROM SAMPLEB X, SAMPLEC Y
    WHERE X.Idc = A.Idc
    AND X.Mth = Y.Mth
                                                                                    AND          X.IND = 'N'
    ORDER BY X.Mth DESC)
    WHERE ROWNUM <=1), ld_EndDate)
                                  ELSE DateDiff('mm', ld_MinDate, ld_MaxDate)
    END)
    WHERE EXISTS
         (Select 1
         FROM SAMPLEB B
         WHERE A.Idc = B.Idc
         AND     A.Ind = 'Y');

    Hi
I am able to select and describe the table. There are no problems with that. I am just guessing would it be a problem with the A.Idc being refferred inside 2 levels from where the Alias was defined. As a workaround I have rewritten my query such that I just have one inner brackets and it works. But i still dont understand why the orginal version does not work now. This error occurs in all packages that have such a query with 2 inner levels. Otherwise everything else seems ok.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Patch strategy for ECC6 in SAP NW2004s environment

    Hi Experts,
Our SAPNW04s landscape consists of ECC6, BI 7.0, EP7.0 , SRM, XI, Solution Manager systems.  We are drafting patch upgrade strategy for the ECC6 system & have 2 options:
Option 1: Apply patches only in ECC6 & not in other components.
Option 2: Patch ECC6 together with other components like SRM, BI, EP etc.
Option 2 will make things complicated but for Option 1 below are the 2 concerns/questions raised:
    1. Option 1 will lead to doing UAT twice for Business Processes which have a tight integration with ECC6, for ex. UAT for data extraction needs to be done after applying patches both in the ECC6 & the BI systems. This will lead to arrange for more user resources.
    2. Due to the tight integration between ECC6 & other components applying patches alone in the ECC6 might lead to other systems like BI, EP,SRM, XI etc at a lower level & they might not be able to connect to ECC6 or work properly with ECC6.
Can somebody share how they are managing the ECC6 patches upgrade in a big NW2004s environment with other components present, are the ECC6 patches done standalone & other systems like EP, BI follow their own different time schedules for patching or ECC6, BI, EP are recommended to be done together.
Are there any best practices recommendations from SAP on the same?.  Can somebody share the blueprint or any strategy document they are using.
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

    Hi Abhishek,
For the reasons you outline in 2, it is recommended to patch entire business scenarios (i.e. business processess that are coupled integrated across systems) together.  Rather than go into a full discussin here, I recommend you see my paper [How To Design a SAP NetWeaver - Based System Landscape |https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/50a9952d-15cc-2a10-84a9-fd9184f35366].

    Hi
Just have a look to the readme file inside the patch... it is RAC specific, so if if you do not have RAC no need to apply it.
