Applying a border to a document

I am a very new Apple user. I have the Pages version just before the more recent Pages '08. How do I apply a border to a document?

Welcome to Apple discussions.
There's no simple border command, so it's going to take a few steps. You could do it this way:
Add a rectangular object to the page; make sure you turn off wrap (Wrap inspector > uncheck Object Causes Wrap. Stretch the object to fill the page.
Click on the Graphics inspector; select the kind of border you want -- either a line or picture frame. From the Fill menu, select Color Fill. Click on the color swatch. Select the little box of crayons on the top right. Then click on a white crayon. You should now be seeing just your border.
With your border still selected, click on Format > Advanced > Send Object to Section Master to make your border repeat on every page. If you don't want it to repeat, skip this step.
You might want to save your document as a template, so you don't have to go through this every time.

How do you make a customized template?? When I customize an original template it does not apply it to the whole document! How do you apply style changes permanently to your document???

When one customize text styles or spacing between paragraphs. How do you apply settings permanently to a document???
Should you create a new template???

Happily, when you edit a document created by a given template, the changes aren't stored in the template.
If you want to get a template embedding your changes, you need to use :
File > Save as Template
then use the newly created custom template as starting point.

CAN I APPLY TEXT TO A PROTECTED DOCUMENT IN WORKSPACE

I AM TRYING TO FILL OUT AN RFP THAT I DOWNLOADED FROM THE WEBSITE. IT IS PASSWORD PROTECTED, HOW CAN I APPLY MY TEXT TO THE DOCUMENT?

It depends on the type of document.
Please note that there is nothing about Workspaces that alters the document; it's merely a storage location for it. You should contact the person/organization that provided the document to you to ask how they want you to add text to it.

Applying a border to a cropped image??? Help.

How do i apply a border to an image that's been cropped? It seems that everything I try will add the border to the original edges of the image, and then the border gets cropped out along with the edges of the video when I start cropping.

Yes, although since you are cropping an image you could copy the clip you've cropped, then Control Click the matte clip, select Paste Attributes, and check the Crop box. This will size your matte to the exact crop of your clip. Then load the clip into the viewer and since it's a crop you can slightly modify the crop or you can simply move the matte clip a little down and to the right or left or whatever your taste desires. Now you have your clip and a border.

At this point Nesting them would be faster.

How do I add an overall border to my document?

Hello.
Just wondering how to solve this one that has perplexed me for awhile. I know that there's a solution, but cannot seem to locate it when I need to.
Here's my question as I put it to the Pages Help Feedback people:
I have a document I have created in Pages. It is all done, and includes text boxes full of text, and several inserted several pieces of artwork, imported pdf's. I could not figure out how to add a border around all of the document, so I went to Pages help, where I punched in "Adding Borders", and up came the title "To add borders and rules to your document". This looks straightforward enough, I thought.
Not so fast. Here are the first two instructions: "1. Select the text to which you want to add borders and rules." I selected all the various text boxes. "2. Click Inspector in the toolbar, click the Text button, and then click More." Did that too. When I chose a border, it placed a border around only one of the text boxes. Now I am stymied. I want to put a border around the whole document, but there are no other solutions here, even after I have read for clues on the entire help page.
I will not get a response from them, so I am turning to you. I do have some idea that it might have to do with a document vs a poster, and I believe I set up my project to be a poster, if that can be useful here.

It says "Select the text to which you want to add borders and rules." That is the text in the text layer in a word processing document, not text boxes.
Do you have a word processing document or a page layout one. Tells you to the right of the document name.
You could use a shape object with a Border but without Fill. It shouldn't have any wrap and then Send objects to background after you have resized it and duplicated if you need it for the next page.

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 Redactions apply on all pages of document

When I redact text on the first page of a document, the redaction marks appear on every other page of the document, I can not find a way to apply the redactions to only one page. I am trying to figure out how to have the redactions just appear on one page.

Unless something has changed in later versions, you can't apply a CC to just a border (or even to an imported object per se). You can only tag text, in the case of an imported object, the anchor. Now, that could be made to work if you are willing to have two versions of the object. One has no border, and has an anchor CC for the RoboHelp workflow. The other has a border, with an anchor CC for other workflows.
What also might work is to apply a named color to the border, which is defined by Color Views to be Invisible when rendering to the RoboHelp workflow.
Generally, Color Views is easier to manage for multiple output workflows (or was before FM10's standard scripting, which might allow you to reduce the rendering mode to a keystroke, no matter how implemented).

Missing left border on Word Document

I have a word document (Windows Vista) in A5 size, landscape, with a 4 sided border. The print preview shows all borders but when printing on HP L7480 Officejet Pro the left edge of the document is missing including the border. I have tried resetting margins etc. Help!

I'm guessing that at some zoom levels, table borders display OK; at others, the odd mixture of thick, thin, and no borders, varying cell-to-cell, are a bit scary because they suggest there's something very odd about the way your tables are set-up. However, your tables DO print correctly on your office/home printer.
Try Edit > Preferences > Page Display and then, in the Rendering section, untick (disable) the Enhance thin lines option.
I can't help feeling that Acrobat should be able to distinguish between a (Word) table border, a fine line in a scaled graphic, and hairlines designed to assist commercial printers. Or, until that day arrives, that this option be disabled by default. But that's just me.
You can also mitigate this effect to some extent by setting all table borders to at least 1.5 pnts, and reducing their visual weight by using color (usually a shade of blue).

Bridge Adds Border on PDF Document

I have a series of JPEGS that are all 8.5" x 11" and 300 DPI.
When I try to make them into a PDF with 1 picture per page, the PDF has a white border around each picture. The border is small, and is larger on the sides and bottom than it is on the top.
I have no idea why it is adding this border. I have made sure that my page settings are exactly the same as my original document settings. Ii have even tried setting the PDF dimension to pixels, matching the original document size, but nothing works. It always adds a border. As far as I can tell, I have turned off any feature or auto spacing.
Why is it doing this? Are there settings somewhere that I don't know about?

In the preferences if Bridge you can change the appearance of the user interface and image backdrop from white via various grey to black using sliders, try it and love it.
You can also move some panels to different locations by grabbing them with the mouse and move them till you see some blue lines that will snap the new location of the panel.
And looking again to your screenshot I see you don't have the path bar activated, look under the menu Window and click on the path bar, it has some very nice icons that increase productivity :-)
Also in the Bridge prefs you can choose to put additional lines with various info under the thumbnails, date taken and date modified are for me very useful settings.
By default the pathbar should be one but every now and then it shuts itself for dark reasons...
Maybe you should also try to refresh the preferences and see if the path bar is again correctly in its place.
But are you able to create a full screen PDF as I am?

Applying CT template to uploaded documents

I have a document library with multiple content types.
Each CT has a custom document template with logos, doc properties, text, etc.
If I create a New Document from the Ribbon, the document gets the CT metadata
AND the document template.
If I upload a document to the library, I can assign a CT to the document so as to get the metadata, but no document template is set. It remains the default blank word doc - no logo, etc.
Can uploaded documents not have the document template assigned that is with the Content Type?

By design, template will work only when you create new document, it won't be applied to existing document.
You could copy and paste existing content to New Document template.
You may also ask the question in Office forum and check if there is any way to apply template on existing template. Here is a similar thread for your reference:

Applying ACL (setAcl) to Versioned Document in java - Exception thrown

I am creating a new versioned document object and trying to apply an acl using doc.setAcl();
However I receive an exception on the step where I am trying to set the ACL (below are the exceptions with IfsException.setVerboseMessage(true) )
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-30043: Insufficient access to change PublicObjects Owner
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10204: Cannot update security settings for a PublicObject that has a SecuringPublicObject reference
Exact same code works when it is not a versioned document.
What do I need to do extra, to take care of versioned documents.

I too try to upload a documet throug web service proxies in java.
Step followed are
1. login using login service
2. upload document using documentContentService
3. createDocument using DocumentService
The last step to createDocument in DocumentServicealwyas returns No valid session exists, though i try to do service calls in stateful session.
Kindly help, if you have any solution for this.

Apply a border to the chart in HTML report

Hi,
I am generating an html report as the final output for my LV program. I have a few graphs that i have added to the report using the append control image to report tool. I have set the image on the control panel to be transperent so that it is printer friendly when i print out the html report. Everything works fine but there is no border around the axis, i.e. there is no solid line that defines x axis and y axis for the graphs. Is there is a property tool that can be used to set this?

I have used this trick alot. One thing that I found is that if you make the color inside the graph white instead of transparent you will get the results that you are looking for. I usually make the outside of my graph transparent and the inside of my graph white and it looks good.
