Applying a new template to entire site?

Is there an easy way to apply a new template to the entire
site? I created a new template and I can open each page
individually and click MODIFY/TEMPLATES/APPLY TEMPLATE TO PAGE but
there has to be an easier way to apply the new template to the
entire site without having to open every single page in the
site.

That would be true ONLY on pages that are already child pages
of templates.
Try it on a page that is not a child page, but that has
existing content.
This is what the OP was asking.

  • Applying a New Template to a Page with Tabs

    Hi,
    We use page templates for our pages. We know that you cannot add a region to a page based on a template, but supposedly you can add tabs to a page based on a template.
    One template we have has a single tab on it. The web designers have been adding content to pages built on that template. When they need another tab, they add it and add content to the new region on the tab. They may do this until there are 4 tabs on the page (the original tab that is in the template, plus three additional tabs). We use this for example to collect links to memos and to divide the links onto 4 tabs representing calendar quarters.
    One of the problems with this process is that the web designers have not been consistent in using uniform definitions for the region on each tab causing an inconsistent look-and-feel from one tab to the next.
    I have created a new template with 4 tabs already defined and with the region properties already defined. The web designers can then add content as needed and if a tab is not required it can be marked as hidden.
    The problem that I am running into is that if I try to apply the new template to an existing page, I get the following error message:
    Error: ORA-00001: unique constraint (PORTAL.WWV_THINGS_NAME_UK) violated
    Also, consistently the content from the original first tab is lost and there is no corresponding tab on the reformatted page. Content on the second tab appears to be OK, but content on the third tab is missing. Content on the fourth tab appears to be OK.
    Can anyone tell me 1. what is specifically causing the error message, and 2. is it possible to do what I want to do or will all of these pages have to be recreated manually instead of changing the templates.?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    You should be able to do what you are trying to do. You seem to be running into a bug. Please file this with support if possible. Based on the error message, you seem to be running into a case of duplicate names, on either items or tabs. What you might try doing is renaming the tabs, ensuring uniqueness, before changing templates. By "renaming", I mean changing the NAME of the tab, not the Display Name, by clicking Edit Tab in edit mode. Does this help at all?

  • Applying templates to entire site in DW 8

    I administer a large Intranet and currently all the pages are
    attached to a single template.
    As part of a rebranding exercise, I have created new
    templates for each specific area of the site. I know that I
    can’t do a find and replace on the .dwt file in the pages but
    how can I apply specific templates to specific folders in the site
    without having to open each file individually and apply the
    appropriate template manually?
    Any advice gratefully received.

  • Apply a new template in Contribute?

    Have an existing site in Contribute that has hundreds of pages.  How do I update the template applied to all of the pages?  I had 2 ideas:
    1)  Edit the existing template, keeping all the file and editable region names the same (thinking that the next time the page pulls the template, it will pull the new content).
    2) Creating a new template with the same editable region names and finding a command to apply the template to all of the pages.
    Suggestions?

    Hi,
         This can be easily done if you have Dreamweaver. In Dreamweaver, connect to your website, edit the template which you want to change. Make your changes to it, and save it. Then, it will ask whether you want to make changes to the web pages based on this template, click Update to update the changes, or if you do not need to update, you can click Don't Update. Dreamweaver checks out the web pages, and makes the changes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Diagonal lines/questionmarks showing up on templates of entire site

    I have a huge website and don't want to have to start all over! Please help. On my iWeb, not the published site, I get all of these diagonal lines and question marks in the background. Part of the template is missing (details of stars in the kid blue template) The Web site itself doesn't have the lines, but some pictures are missing and some of the text is messed up. I don't know what to do to fix this. It has been suggested that I just eliminate the domain and start over. I pray that isn't my only option as I have spent many hours on the blog. I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks, Marla
    This page will give you a clearer picture of what it looks like on the web... with pictures missing and words moved... see the snapshot to see what I see on the iWeb program itself.

    The lines show up on all of my pages within the iWeb program. The blog seems to be the most effected with missing pics and moved text in almost all of my blog posts... I have like 30 of them. I want to continue with the blog for my friends and family as we live on the opposite coast. We just bought an iMac and I'd like to work on my site some more, but don't know what I should do. If it is a currupt file, I don't want to bring the domain over to the new computer. I don't want to lose all of my work tho... what to do?
    If I insert a new page wiith the same template, kids blue, it does the same thing. If I insert a different template, it doesn't have the lines.
    Pleeese help me...

    Varkgirl is right!
    You have corrupted Kid Blue template, I experienced something bad (not quite like this) when I was writing the templates installer for Suzanne (sboben).
    Sorry, I didn't make the connections, but looking at your screen shoot:
    http://homepage.mac.com/nealbfinn/Snapshot%202006-07-15%2014-58-45.tiff
    and looking at iWeb Kid Blue template:

    your screen shoot is missing the stars background (the stars on the right hand side):

    and the image in the place holder (bottom image):

    My suggestion is, backup your home folder, your Domain.sites, and anything deems valuable, then re-install iWeb.
    Varkgirl, you have good intuition; we'll miss you .

  • Apply template to entire site?

    Is there a way to apply a template to all pages of a site in a single operation? I have over 800 pages converted to HTML from FrameMaker and hope I don't have to apply the template 800+ times--or even find/replace great chunks of code in multiple steps--to accomplish this. All content on every page would be applied to the same editable region. Using GL 8/CS2, Mac OS 10.4.11.
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Success! As it turns out, find-and-replace on large chunks of code--from the template to the page files--took fewer steps and less time than I had imagined (previous search-and-replace on a site of similar content had been very sluggish). The problem was never organization, just application. By simply applying the template to one file the regular way, I could check for errors and locate just where to insert the replacement (template) code. Once complete, GL does recognize the files as belonging to a template.
    There is still an annoying glitch wherein GL keeps the path to the template in the extras area. Were I uploading through FTP this would magically disappear; but I drag-and-drop to a mounted staging drive that replicates to live servers. So I must still repair the wayward path at the end of the process. Luckily, maintenance on the publication is exceptionally low and I usually don't have to repeat this task.
    Thanks again to all.

  • Why a new template only applies to first page?

  • Integrate Tribevita template into existing site

    Hi all
    I am going through the pleasure of integrating a new Tribevita template into an existing site ie so the crucial sales data etc is maintained. From my research, this is a bit of work and basically it seems you are copying various parts of the new template into the current (old) site.
    I gather the process of integrating a new site involves:
    1. Recreate the folders, web app layouts, forms, content holders, photo galleries etc from the new template, into your existing site.
    2. Change the relevant ID's in the html in the new site, so they match the ID's of those just created in step 1
    3. Then.... ftp all the new template's pages, assets, css, files etc into the OLD site....and in theory you will have your new & improved website all while maintaining all that traffic and sales data.
    The new template site is a reponsive site from Tribevita - Flora Design, so I don't know if that will have any issues moving across to the old site.  Has anyone gone through this process and can you give me any advice on things to look out for and if the above the correct method to do this changeover.
    Many thanks.
    David

    Hi Buzzvick - glad you messaged me as I've been meaning to let you know but couldn't find this thread.
    OK it did go smoothly but here's what I learnt.
    First make sure the template you bought is almost EXACTLY what you want. Ie products display the same as you want them to, search pages etc work how you want to. Find one that you would be happy to use as is just with minor changes like colours.
    Create your template on a test site. Write down your login details as you will refer to it often. FTP copy this new site.
    FTP copy your new site again and save it as a working file (e.g NEW SITE - Working file)
    Create all logos and banners in the sizes you will need for new template.
    FTP copy your old site - save it as ORIGINAL SITE and lock it in your files.
    FTP copy you old site again and save it as working - use this to compare the files for when you upload the new template
    FTP copy your old site once again and save it somewhere else just in case you need it!
    copy your products and customers for backup
    do a sync if you are using onesaas etc
    I also printed all invoices from start of BC / made sure I had a foolproof backup
    Create a new start page and say you are doing updates (if you are tackling it all in one day)
    (I was recommended to check duplicate scripts, css, images, templates etc but I realised this would take hours / days so skipped it and bit the bullet - If i had more time I would have but as I was prepared for our site (=my site) to be offline and have customers call if problems I jumped right in).
    FTP across the template to your website - I used the 'working' file and deleted files on my computer once I had uploaded them so I new what was still to be done.
    Update the template and page module numbers etc (I used a script from BC Gurus that showed the module ID numbers next to it - message me if you need it).
    Screenshot the NEW template (on test site) and also OLD template ID numbers (using script above) and print it out - this will save hours as easy to cross compare.
    If the menus don't show - which ours weren't - RECREATE them... this took me 2 hours to work out why they weren't showing as I just duplicated them and it didn't work!!
    Now change over page templates - start with unpopular pages like about us etc
    Using firebug fix up any styling etc and update css.
    I also removed / delete all my old styling sheets and just kept the new template one (hence your site might look a bit fuzzy so make sure you do it on a crappy sales day or with the maintenance page loaded)
    - I used FTP with my new template file in one screen and current site in the other screen and deleted anything that wasn't in the new template (make sure your original site backup is on file).
    Check all categories, pages etc - e.g update home page etc
    Check ipad / iphone versions (I use firefox web tools that resizes screen as our new site is responsive)
    Make site live (remove maintenance page)
    Pretend you are a customer and sign up for your newsletter, sign up for access / do an order. TEst it all.
    Add in all Google analytics and trackings.
    Update your SEO info e.g title tags - I went page by page through my old site templates and copied any SEO or scripts I'd need and saved it in word
    Recheck site again - Pretend you are a customer and sign up for your newsletter, sign up for access / do an order. Test it all again.
    Recheck site again from other browsers - Pretend you are a customer and sign up for your newsletter, sign up for access / do an order. TEst it all.
    I also kept a notepad handy and highlighted all the above once done. I also wrote down anything little that needed to be changed and kept going on the above. If you start fixing little things as you go you will never finish. I employed my 90% principle - get 90% done then do the remaining little 10% once 90% is up.
    And good luck! It took me from 8am Saturday morning to 5.30am the Sunday morning - so almost a good 24hours! Luckily I'd had a super early Friday night (no life that weekend!) and did it from my home office. So I'd recommend only conquering it when you can pull an all nighter so the site is done.
    Hope that helps

  • Unable to apply a new site template to a new site collection's root web

    Hi folks,
    Using PowerShell I need to create a new site collection and add a new site template to its root web.  I've tried but failed...
    I created the site template from a team site that I modified and then saved it as a site template and saved the template to an WSP file (in the solutions gallery).
    I have tried both of the following methods but can't find the template to add to the root web of the site collection.  Help!!
    Method 1 - Create the site collection, deploy & install the template as a user solution, and apply the template
    I did the following, but it doesn't work because Get-SPWeb doesn't find it.  If I run Get-SPWeb with no parameters the list it returns doesn't include my template.  So site.GetWebTemplates includes it but Get-SPWebTemplate doesn't.
    # Create the site collection
    $site = New-SPSite $siteURL -OwnerAlias $owner -SecondaryOwnerAlias $secondOwner -name $studentName -Description $description
    # Deploy and install the template
    $wsp = Add-SPUserSolution -LiteralPath $wspPath -Site $siteURL
    $wsp = Install-SPUserSolution -Identity $wspIdentity -Site $siteURL
    # Assign the template.
    $loc= [System.Int32]::Parse(1033)
    $templates= $site.GetWebTemplates($loc)
    foreach ($child in $templates)
    Write-Host $child.Name
    If ($child.Name.EndsWith("ABC")
    # the name of the template that I added ends in "ABC" - when this script runs I the name of my
    #added template displays as "{longGUID}#1ABC"
    $template = $child
    $templateID = $child.Name
    $template = Get-SPWebTemplate $templateID
    # regardless of whether I assign $template above or here the Set-SP_Web assignment below fails
    $web = Get-SPWeb $siteURL
    $web | Set-SPWeb
    -Template $template
    Method 2 - Deploy and install the template as a farm solution, create the site collection, and apply the template
    I did the following.  After I did the first section (deploy and install the solution to the farm) I was able to go to "Manage Farm Solutions" in CA and it was listed there, but neither
    site.GetWebTemplates nor Get-SPWebTemplate included the site template in their list of templates.
    # Deploy and install the solution to the farm
    $template = Add-SPSolution -LiteralPath "C:\SharePoint\Student Site.wsp"
    $template | Install-SPSolution
    Do {Start-Sleep 2 } while (!((Get-SPSolution $template).Deployed))
    # Create the site collection
    $site = New-SPSite $siteURL -OwnerAlias $owner -SecondaryOwnerAlias $secondOwner -name $studentName -Description $description
    # Assign the template.
    $loc= [System.Int32]::Parse(1033)
    $templates= $site.GetWebTemplates($loc)
    foreach ($child in $templates)
            Write-Host $child.Name
            If ($child.Name.EndsWith("ABC")
    # the name of the template that I added ends in "ABC" - when this script runs I the name of my
    #added template displays as "{longGUID}#1ABC"
                            $template = $child
                            $templateID = $child.Name
    $template = Get-SPWebTemplate $templateID
    # regardless of whether I assign $template above or here the Set-SP_Web assignment below fails
    $web = Get-SPWeb $siteURL
    $web | Set-SPWeb
    -Template $template
    David

    Out of curiosity, are you able to create a site within a site collection using this template? That is, can you create a site that is not the root site (e.g. http://sharepoint/sitecollection/Web)?

  • Apply custom template on a site in programming

    Hi;
    I search a code in VS (programming) to apply a custom template (WSP) on a SharePoint site empty (black site).
    Like in power shell :
    $SubWeb = New-SPWeb $SubSiteName -Name $SiteName -UseParentTopNav
    $SubWeb.ApplyWebTemplate($SiteTemplate.Name)
    Regards;

    Here is an example which shows how to create a site collection using a webtemplate:
    SPWebApplication webApp = SPWebApplication.Lookup(new Uri("http://win2008"));
    using (SPSite site = webApp.Sites.Add("/sites/site1", "SharePoint", null, 1033, null, "administrator", "Administrator", "[email protected]"))
        SPWeb rootWeb = site.RootWeb;
        // Get Solutions Gallery
        SPDocumentLibrary solutions = (SPDocumentLibrary)site.GetCatalog(SPListTemplateType.SolutionCatalog);
        // Upload Solution File with the Web Template
        SPFile solutionFile = solutions.RootFolder.Files.Add("test.wsp", File.ReadAllBytes(@"..\..\test.wsp"));
        // Activate Solution
        SPUserSolution solution = site.Solutions.Add(solutionFile.Item.ID);
        // Activate Features
        Guid solutionId = solution.SolutionId;
        // Activate Site Collection Features
        SPFeatureDefinitionCollection siteFeatures = site.FeatureDefinitions;
        var features = from SPFeatureDefinition f
                       in siteFeatures
                       where f.SolutionId.Equals(solutionId) && f.Scope == SPFeatureScope.Site
                       select f;
        foreach (SPFeatureDefinition feature in features)
            site.Features.Add(feature.Id, false, SPFeatureDefinitionScope.Site);
        // Get Web Template
        SPWebTemplateCollection webTemplates = site.RootWeb.GetAvailableWebTemplates(1033);
        SPWebTemplate webTemplate = (from SPWebTemplate t
                                     in webTemplates
                                     where t.Title == "test"
                                     select t).FirstOrDefault();
        if (webTemplate != null)
            site.RootWeb.ApplyWebTemplate(webTemplate.Name);
    The main thing here is that the site on which a webtemplate is to be applied should be created from a blank template first.

  • Can DW apply a 'master' template ACROSS sites?

    Hi,
    I'm using DW8.02 to manage several sites.
    While each site does have its own 'local' template in the
    Templates directory, I want to implement the idea of a 'master'
    template that applies to ALL sites. This master template will
    contain stuff common to ALL my sites, and each individual site's
    template will be nested within this master template.
    What I'd really like to be able to do is to define this
    'master' template once only (in one of my sites) and have it update
    ALL sites (not just the one I've defined it in) when I change it. I
    can't find a way of doing this -- does anyone know how to, please?
    The problem I seem to be having is that DW seems to treat different
    sites completely separately, and that there seems to be no notion
    of considering other sites during template updates.
    (I know I could have a duplicate copy of the 'master'
    template for EACH site, but then I would have to update it in
    several places whenever there are changes!)
    Many thanks in advance, and I hope someone has an idea about
    how to do this!
    Kind regards,
    Nick

  • How to apply new templates to legacy FrameMaker documents?

    I have to update the overall style of a large number of legacy FrameMaker 6/7/8 documents. These documents implement a set of legacy FrameMaker templates.
    I'd like to know how can I apply a new FrameMaker template to a legacy document, so that the styles of legacy document are updated. Also, is there some way to "batch-process" new template application to legacy documents, reducing the time involved in updates?
    Regards,

    Hi vmugdha,
    With FrameMaker 6/7/8/9 you can update existing formats.
    That means, format names did not change, only their defnition.
    You do this with File | Import | Formats.
    Helpful is here e.g. Rick Quatro's ImportFormatsSpecial:
    http://www.frameexpert.com/plugins/importformatsspecial/index.htm
    When also format names changed, you need something which maps old formats
    to new formats. As already mentioned, Cudspan's TemplateMapper can do this:
    http://www.cudspan.net/plugins/executioner.php?do=displayPage&field_tab_num=2
    Helpful is also Rick Quatro's FindChangeSpecial:
    http://www.frameexpert.com/plugins/findchangespecial/index.htm
    Best regards
    Winfried
