Applying a text wrap

Well, I'm a newby (so appologies)... I've followed the steps to do a text wrap in the document I'm creating, but I don't see how to apply it once I've selected it in In Design.
Help...
Thanks in advance!

Text wrap panel?
I guess I did not include enough context: I'm using a Que tech manual and am
attempting to do some basic layout. I have created text frame and a graphic
frame I want the text to wrap around. I laid the text frame over the graphic
frame and then went to the window menu and clicked on text wrap... selected
bounding box, selected invert (all according to Que), but then what??? I do
not see an apply control or button that makes the text wrap. This is what
I'm confused about... what to do to make the text wrap.
Thanks!
Matt

  • Text wrap on Master Page items

RE:  InDesign CS2 on Windows Vista
    Hello,
I inserted a graphic on both of my master pages and applied a text wrap to them.  However, on my document pages, my text does not wrap around the graphics.  (In the Text Frame Options dialog box, the "Ignore Text Wrap" box is not checked.)  I know I can either override my master page items (and insert the graphic again) or control-shift-click on the graphic and force the text to wrap around it.  But that puts another link to the graphic in my document...and I'm trying to minimize the file size.
Do you have any ideas on how to make the text wrap on the master pages work on the document pages?

Text wrap on masters is not honored on live pages in CS2. It was added as feature in CS3.

  • Text Wrap doesn't apply

I brought in a photo and applied text wrap to it (wrap bounding box; wrap to both left and right) and it had no effect when I applied it to the text. I tried the text wrap command on another document and it worked fine. Any ideas what is happening? Thanks. (CS4 ID with 10.5.6)

To where did you "bring it in"? Is it free-standing on the page or inline/anchored to some text?
Is the photo in front of or behind the text? What is the setting of your Composition preference "Text Wrap Only Affects Text Beneath"?

All the icons in my Text Wrap window have disappeared. The tab/pallet is still there, but empty. The pop out still lists “Show Options” and “Apply to Master Page Only” are still there, but grayed out. Thanks in advance for any help!!

    Yipee.
    Should have remembered that one.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Text Wrap not working in Muse (CC 2014)

I'm attempting to wrap text around a slideshow.  I have already inserted the slideshow in the text box, used the wrapping options to justify to the left, with the text running to the right and beneath the slideshow.  In the design layout, it shows up perfectly.  However, in the preview tab as well as previewing on the web, the wrapping does not show.  The slideshow simply appears over the text, with the text running behind the slideshow.  Any ideas on how to fix this problem or is it simply a bug that Adobe needs to eventually correct?  Thanks for your help!
    All my best,
    Rob

Hard to tell from the screenshots. A couple nuances of text wrap that may be unexpected:
    1) If you select an item with text wrap and move it up or down in Design view, that will move the item but will not change the area that is knocked out for text wrap purposes. Thus text can overlap on object that has text wrap applied if the item has been moved up or down while in the text flow.
    2) Where an object is inserted in a flow is important. Generally it will provide the most predictable behavior if the graphic is inserted at the very start of a paragraph. If a graphic is inserted in the middle of a paragraph and text wrap is applied, exactly where the graphic will appear will be dependent on how the browser line breaks the text of the paragraph before where the graphic was inserted. A change in line breaks can result in the graphic appearing a line higher or lower in one browser versus another, since every browser has it's own text layout engine.
Assuming neither of the 2 points above fit what you're seeing, it's probably most expedient to send us the .muse file along with a link to this thread for context at [email protected] and a note to let us know where to find the problem situation within the file so we can see the exact situation and settings for what you're encountering. If the file is larger than 20Mb you'll want to send it using a service such as Adobe Send, WeTransfer, Dropbox, etc. Thanks.

  • Text Wrap not working

I thought to create a text wrap you simply created a polygonal shape, selected it, and chose "Text Wrap" from the Options menu.
In a new draw document, I am creating a text frame, filling it with text, creating a polygon, and with it selected choosing "Text wrap" > "Irregular," but the text does not wrap.

    Hi Timothy,
Click on the text frame to select it, then go Options > Frame Links
Wrap in Draw documents will work only if the text is in a frame to which Frame linking has been applied. It's not necessary that the frame be actually linked to a second frame.

  • Text wrap around an achored object

I'm continually frustrated by a text wrap issue around an achored object in a story. I have two anchored textframes that are taking up the top half of a text frame, one of them has a full column text wrap applied to it which forces the first title of the regular text to begin beneath it.  My issue is that sometimes this title falls too close to the anchored text frames but if I add space to the bottom of the text wrap, the title does not snug to the text wrap but will stay tight until the wrap adjustment invades the cap height and then it will suddenly jump way down what looks like the full line height of the style, creating way too much of a gap. I can't seem to get a clean even space between my anchored textframe and the first line of text. I'm doing hundreds of files with this set up and they are looking different because the anchored text frames are all different sizes and I can't get that space between them and the first title to be uniform.  I'm sure I'm missing an option somewhere, but I can't figure out what it is. I want the first line of text to snug up to the edge of the text wrap, and it just won't do it. I've looked through all my style options and can't figure out what I'm missing.  "Align to grid" is set to "None," and "Start Paragraph" is set to "Anywhere."
I'm really confused by this. Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong or if I've run up against a limitation in the application?
    I'm using CS5 on a Mac 10.5.8

    Sorry Grant,
Your "solution" does not work in this instance. The boxes you see in my image are the first things on that page. The anchor paragraphs are set to start in a new column so that they purposely start a new page. The story starts 3 pages before this and you can't have anchored objects more than a spread away from their anchors, so your solution simply does not work. I would have to break my lesson into multiple stories, which is the very thing I'm trying not to do to keep my workflow efficient.
It looks like it is a limitation of ID's anchored object workflow (which has never been ideal, but I'm trying to work with it). Unfortunately, tables are also not a safe solution because long tables used together with span/split column features cause ID to crash (predictably)--as far as I can tell, Adobe doesn't appear to be interested in fixing this bug. I've learned the hardway not to combine them in any workflow unless I want to restart ID multiple times a day.
In case you are wondering, this complicated workflow resulted from a shortcoming in ID anyway. I have to place the text in table cells so that I can use the SIde Heads plugin to pull them automatically into anchored objects. I have to anchor them into floating objects to get the rounded corners on background squares that is BEHIND the text. I could do it as tables in the flow of text if I could create anchored backgrounds with rounded corners that floated behind the tables, but unfortunately, ID will not let you change the stacking order of anchored objects--they always float in front and there is no option to push them behind--and tables are uniformly square and boring. I tried several times to create an easily automatable workflow for this project, and complicated as it is, this is the only one that actually works.
I will have to manually adjust the paragraph spacing and leading. That seems to be only adjustment that gives me the fine control that I want. I just wish it were consistent from document to document so I could set it in the style and not have to eyeball everything.

  • ID CS3 - text wrap doesn't work at the end of a long multi-columned text frame

Did a search - don't think this specific issue has been addressed:
We design large graphics often used on walls. When working with a text frame that that was 11 feet long and had 8 columns, text wrap would not work on an image placed in the last column. The same image with the same text wrap applied will work fine anywhere else in the text frame. I found that if I shortened the width of the text frame a little bit at a time eventually it would work, but there doesn't seem to be a specific cut-off width - sometimes the last column won't text wrap when the frame is 115 inches wide and sometimes it doesn't work when the frame is only 80 inches wide. Again, all of the other columns work fine. I have tried all of the obvious stuff, the only variable between the columns that wrap and the one that doesn't is it's position at the end of the text frame.
We have gotten around this issue by using multiple threaded frames instead of one long frame with multiple columns, but I am curious if anyone else has run into this or might know what the issue is.
    thanks

  • CS4 text wrap over anchored object

Every time I place an anchored object (doesn't matter if it's graphic or text frame) and apply text wrap, Indesign freezes permanently and only solution is killing it via task manager.
I opened CS3 file with anchored objects w/ txt wrap and the same freeze happens when trying to move, delete or apply different wrap settings to object.
It never happened in previous version of ID on my machine.
Any solution to this problem? Thanks.

  • CS4 Text Wrap issue - HELP!

HELP!  I taught myself PageMaker 6.5 and I got REALLY good at the basics, but not so great at the in-depth things.  Consequently, when I upgraded to InDesign CS4, the same holds true, so please feel free to treat me like a 2-year-old in your explanations.  Now for my dilemma:
I create a quarterly magazine.  Most of the pages are 2- or 3-column spreads.  Many times, a photograph (and its caption) will span more than just one column, but not necessarily the entire width of two.  In other words, my photo could span all of column 1 and 1/2 of column 2, with the text flowing to the right of the photograph, then expanding to fill all of column no. 2 beneath it.  In PageMaker, when I text-wrapped around the pic, leaving enough bottom text wrap to insert my captioning, the text would wrap perfectly, keeping the text in perfect alignment horizontally across the columns.  That, in turn, kept the bottom edge of all my columns exactly equal.
In InDesign, however, that's not the case. The text doesn't align equally horizontally across the columns, hence ruining my clean horizontal text margin at the bottom.  This happens any time I have a photo that spans all of one and part of one (or two, in the case of a centered photograph) column.  In fact, even if I place a photo that fits within just one column, the horizontal text alignment gets screwed up.  I'm attaching a .pdf of page 35 of the issue I'm working on to show you what I mean.
I've tried choosing all three columns and clicking the "align top edges," but that just drags all three columns up to the 1/2 inch margin at the top of the page, and my text actually starts 1/4" beneath that (3/4" from the top page edge) because of the page numbering, and when I drag all three columns back down to the 3/4" mark, the wrapping gets all screwed up again.  So I tried "align bottom edges," and that didn't work either (it worked to a point... anything that actually had text flowing to the bottom of the column was fine, the same thing occurred then above the column with a photo spanning all of it.  Geez, I'm confused just trying to explain it.  Hopefully, the attached .pdf will help make sense of this.
Consequently, I'm moving columns manually for this issue (all 60 pages of it), because it has to be at the printers by the end of the weekend and I'm just plain out of time.  If anyone can give me some guidance so I don't have to do this again next time, I'd really appreciate it.
You can email me at [email protected] if you have any ideas. Thanks for your help.
    Barb

Thanks so much to both Peter and Bob.  I'm sure this will fix the problem.  At least I know it wasn't something I was doing wrong and it really is a glitch in the program.  I'll play with the baseline grid, since it seems that will be the best option. I have a few months to experiment with it before the next issue goes to press.
Does setting a preference act like a default?  In other words, will it then apply to all pages in all new documents I create or is it specific to the document in which I'm working when I set it? If the latter, I'm guessing I can just include it when I set up my master page so it will apply throughout the issue?  Which, of course brings me to yet another question: how do I save my Master Pages so I don't have to redo them with each issue?
I'm finding that the majority of InDesign is a lot more user-friendly and easier to navigate than the old PageMaker -- many fewer steps for the same end result.  I hope to take a class if I can find one in my area, because I'm certain I'm doing many things the "hard way."  Learning as you go is okay, but you miss a lot of the finer points along the way and spend entirely too much time trying to figure things out or bugging people like you in this forum.
I apologize if some of what I ask seems rather elementary.
And Scott, sorry, but I've always felt that, out of all the fonts available, Comic Sans is the most readable.

  • Text wrap option not working..

Lately I have not been able to use the Text Wrap function in CS3. I feel like it's worked up until recently, but now when I open the Text Wrap window there are no options listed - it's just a blank gray box. When I click on the dropdown menu on the top right, the only two grayed-out options are "Show Options" and "Apply to Master Page Only".
I tried selecting an object first to create the text wrap, selecting the text box, rearranging the objects, but nothing appears.
Any idea why this might be happening or what I am doing wrong?

  • ID CS5: Problem with Text Wrap being Forgetful :(

I am having a problem with text wrap. Whenever I open this INDD file I am working on now, some of the images shift from having what I call "actual" text wrap to having "false" text wrap. "Actual" text wrap *actually* wraps the text around the image as it is supposed to; "false" text wrap says that "Wrap Around Bounding Box" is applied to the image yet no text is wrapped. After opening the file, making sure to unset and reset the text wrap on each offending image to show an "actual" text wrap WITHOUT changing layer order, saving the file, closing, and reopening, some images have "false" text wrap again! This is a 77 page document with images on every page.
Another occurrence is if I largely change the flowed text. If I must remove a paragraph on page 7, for example, then the "actual" text wrapped images on page 10, 12, and 18 change to "false" text wrapped images and I have to reset the text wrap on each image. There are often images in between offending ones that DO NOT change, but it doesn't seem to be the same ones each time. So once image A, C, and D will change to "false" text wrap, while B, E, and F are fine; the next time, A, B, and F are wrong and the others are fine. This is driving me crazy as I have never in 8 years of using InDesign encountered a problem using Text Wrap. Please note:
Ignore Text Wrap IS NOT selected.
The text box IS below the images.
The copy is flowed throughout the document.
Preferences>Composition>"Text Wrap Only Affects Text Beneath Selected"" DOES NOT FIX IT.
"Wrap around bounding box" IS showing as selected for the image/images.
There is NO CLIPPING PATH / PHOTOSHOP PATH / ALPHA PATH on these images.
The images / text box order is not changed between being correct and being incorrect.
Anyone else with this trouble? And, if so, how did you fix it? Thanks,

  • Text wrap issue

I had graphic elements on a page that I had text wrapped around correctly. I dedcided I was going to use those elements for all pages, so I moved them to the masters. When I did that, the text wrap went away. It still shows up on the master pages, but its not applying to any of the document pages.
I can fix this manually, but I have to believe as good a program as ID is, that this little issue can't have been overlooked.
Anyone out there have a solution?
    Thanks

That was one of the short-comings of earlier versions of ID -- Text wrap on a master item only worked on the other master page items, not on a live page.
Short of scripting, about the best option I can think of is to select it on the master page and cut it it to the clipboard, then "paste in place" on each live page, which is a real pain in the neck.
I'd definitely ask in the scripting forum if anyone has a script for CS2 already written.

  • Text Wraps on Interactive Report

I created an APEX 4.1.1.00.23 application with some interactive reports. On the interactive reports I had a problem with text wrapping around so a string like this:
    505 EAST 144TH STEEET
    Would display as:
    505 EAST
    144TH
    STREET
I corrected the problem with the following java script in the Execute When Page Loads page attribute:
    $('td[headers="ADDRESS"]').attr("style","white-space:nowrap");
The user requested that the report break on two columns. I opened Actions>Format>Control Break, selected the columns, and saved the report. Now the java to format the address column does not seem to take effect. Before I applied the breaks the text would sometimes wrap and I could correct it by pressing the F5 key but this does not work anymore. How do I get the java script to take effect or otherwise correct the text wrapping problem?

With the control break the IR generates different mark-up, so you need to add another selector to the rules so there's a match on the column cells in both the standard and break report views.

Apple removed colors from most of the system windows .
For instance, there is no longer color for the circular buttons at left top of windows
They didn't change the GUI in some applications. It seems that this apply to apps which must be able to run in Snow Leopard as well as in Lion.
Removing the colors in rev 9.1.0 would have introduced inconsistency in Snow Leopard in which iWork '09 will be 'frozen' soon.
Keeping them introduce an inconsistency in Lion but, as you know, I guess that next major version of iWork will be Lion only, I guess that colors will be removed in this one. So the inconsistency will disapear.
