Applying Active state of top level nav. menu to child pages

I am trying to keep a consistent look across the child pages of a top level site. I'd like the main navigation bar to remain in an active state for the parent page while the user navigates the child pages associated with that page using submenus. Ideally, I'd like the active state to remain on the top level menu so that the user knows they are still within that parent while they drill down to the specific information they are looking for.
Brand new at this and am truly your 'no HTML' experience, just design work gal. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Active State not working in Horizontal Menu Bar

I have a Horizontal Menu Bar.
I've set the Top Level Item with Normal, Rollover, Mouse Down and Active States to be different.
All three work on the Top Level Item, EXCEPT for Active State. When the menu is Active, and I move the mouse down the items, the Top Level Item defualts to the Normal State, NOT the Active State.
I've tried trashing the Active State and rebuilding it. That did not work.
I can't figure out how to get the Top Level Item in the Menu Bar to display the Active State.
Hope someone has some suggestions, or knows if this is a bug.

Hmmm...I've just been playing around, and I think I got the Active State to work correctly. I think my problem was not understand what Active State means.
To answer your question, I was changing the Font Color and Box Fill Color of the Active State.
I did not understand that Active State means the look of the Menu Item when the PAGE is active. I thought it meant the look of the Menu item when the cursor is scrolling down the Menu (i.e. when the MENU is Active, not the page).

When you hover over the "Work" menu item, and move the cursor down the menu, the state of "Work" remains changed until you move the cursor off of that menu column. It does NOT return back to it's Normal state until you are off of that menu column.
Is there a way to achieve this with the menu states in Muse?

Top level Contextual Menu Items

I installed OnMyCommand which works well but I was wondering if anyone knew if it were possible to move the commands you create so they are on the top level of the right click finder context menu (rather than having to go to "more" then to my OnMyCommand).

Yes, if you open the command editor, OMCEdit, you will see a list of your installed commands in the sidebar. Click on the command you'd like to move and choose the level in the "Location" field.

I NEED HELP! How do you Create a Drop Down Accordion Navi with the child pages remaining expanded

I would like to know how I can create a vertical accordion navigation with some custom modifications.
I need it to function like this sites vertical navigation. (link is below) Click on the parent page "bedrooms" and it expands revealing all of the "child pages" then click on one of the child pages, it turns the font to Underlined and all the child pages remain exposed! (it does not collapse after you click on a child page!!!!!!!) I need my site to do this as it tells the visiter where they are exactly on the site!     Please HELP ME! Thank You!
I would actually like mine to be a little more pronounced. Perhaps having the link turn to BOLD Font indicating you are on that page. And the main Parent page would have a diffrent background color.

EXAMPLE: Adhesives IS IN BOLD indicating you are on that page. and it remains open it should remain open until you click on another parent page like Hardwood. (Then the Hardwood child pages (Sub Menu) would expand looking like the carpet sub menus/child pages. All of the accordians i have found seam to collapse after you select a child page (sub menu) and the visitor wouldn't know where he is on the site... Please Help Me accomplish this!

Customize Top Level Navigation Menu

How do I customize the TLN menu options to show only the ones i need, nstead of the standard 'Java Development, System Adminstration and so on...'. I want to remove these standard menu options for a set of roles.

Hi Sid,
when you go on Useradministration -> Roles and select a user, you might see some roles gray out because of other dependencies. For example you can not remove ContentManager and JavaDeveloper because this roles have been assign to some groups to which this user belongs.
The best way to check this, is to go to Useradminstration -> Roles, and search the role "ContentManager". Select it and check if it is assign to a specific group in which your users might belong.
Eric, SAP recommends to assign the eu_role to the group "All Users", so that every user has some content when entering the portal. But this is not done by any installation automatically as far as I know.

Combining Flashvideo and javascript nav-menu in same page?

I'd be very greatful if I could get some help with the
following.
I have a page where I want to to insert a flash video. Only
problem is that I have built my navigation menu with a plugin from
PVII (PopMenuMagic-plugin) and it uses a bit of javascript.
So there is a mention of the menu's javascript in the
<head> and also in the <body onload=""> tag.
And this seems to collide with the mention of javascript that
Dreamweaver inserts relating to Flashvideo in the <head> tag
as well as it has its own <body onload=""> tag.
I don't know javascript (which is why I got the plugin in the
first place) so I don't know how to combine the flash video and the
navigation menu on the same page.
1) I don't know if there is a collision in the <head>
area between the javascript statements.
2) I don't know how to combine the 2 <body onload="">
arguments into a single argument.

Does anyone have an idea of how to resolve this?
I was thinking perhaps I could put the video in an iFrame as
a workaround but it would be nice to do it correctly without
iFrames.

A top level menu item should display its active state if any of its submenu items are active

Example case: I'm designing a Muse site which is basically a portfolio of our work. We design books, doing page layout and covers. We have numerous book categories and sub categories which I put in a horizontal menu. When a given top level category menu item doesn't have a submenu, it is a hyperlink and it displays active state when the browser displays its linked page. But when a given page is displayed from a submenu link, its top level menu item does NOT display active state. I think it should.
For example, we have a "Nostalgia" category which has "Film" and "TV" subcategories. Because the menu item, "Nostalgia" has a submenu containing "Film" and "TV", the label "Nostalgia" is not a hyperlink. The submenu attached to it has the two hyperlinked items "Film" and "TV". When the browser is displaying either linked page, the submenu is hidden. So it would be nice if the top level item, "Nostalgia" would display in an active state.

How to start Top-Level Navigation on Level two?

Hi,
does anyone known a trick how i can start the top-level navigation at Level two?
I make an own frameworkpage and try to set it in the iview properties, but there is not an property for this. it is only for the detailed-navigation iView there.
For what:
I need this, because i would open an pop-up with an other portal window. I link to the popup with navigation-target=... In this pop-up should only be the content of one role. This folder i have set to "invisible in the navigation area". So the User always see him in a popup. when i start at the default Top-navigation level 1, the user see all the other navigation folders.

Hi Patrick,
up to SPS13, this needs some hands on on different parts of the TLN. What I've done this spring was showing all top-level nav targets within a select box in the masthead and then, after having selected one of these entries, the TLN shows just the content of this top level entry. So this is more or less the same. As said, some work to do.
As of SPS14, with the new navigation taglib, I expect this to be much less work; anyhow, I didn't convert the results into SPS14, so I cannot say if this is really as easy as I expect.

Firefox (like for the Press link) I get this error:
This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js. In Flash run
"Apply Active Content Update" in the Commands menu to copy
AC_RunActiveContent.js to the HTML output folder.
I already did all of this and yes the js file is there, in
the same directory. Any ideas why this isn't working?

FIREFOX FIX FOR VS.NET 2005 USERS:
This issue happens when using Visual Studio 2005 as the

I copied the <HEAD> portion of a page that worked and
pasted it in the bad page. When saving the file in the VS editor it
gives me this message:

Problem with switching tabs in top level navigation for Roles

Hi,
I've created two tabs (based on two roles) in the portal top level navigation menu. When clicking the first one it opens as it should. Then when clicking on the second tab it will not open, instead the first tab open up again, it sort of switches back automatically.These two roles are basically consists of worksets and iviews(accessing to r/3).
Does anyone have any expericene with this type of problem?

On startup of the role an iview was called which opened a gif file stored in the KM. This iview wasn't added to any page so I basically did just that; added it to a page. Now the problem seems to have gone away!

SharePoint 2010 Content from top level site hidden from search results on subsite.

Hi Everyone,
The issue I am having is that when a group of people are in there site, we'll call it site B, and they hit the search function, they only get results from site B and subsites of site B, but nothing from the top level site, site A. does anyone know of anyway
to get results from site A when searching in site B? This would really help me out a lot.

Hi Mike,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display the content in top level site in search results page when doing search in subsites.
By default, the search scope is set to This Site in all sites, so the search scope in subsites is limited to the subsites.
I recommend to create a Search Center and then edit the Search settings in the top level site settings, please refer to the image below:

How to merge top level navigation into detail navigation panel.

I want to add all the contents of top level navigation into detail navigation panel and remove top level navigation.I am looking for the code with which i can shift the top level navigation to detail level navigation.

You could edit the top-level navigation iview and set the <b>Number of Display levels</b> property's value to 0.
you can reach the Top-level navigation iview by going through the following path
1) <b>Content Administration --> Portal Content --> Content Provided by SAP --> Admin Interfaces --> Top-level navigation</b>
However, note that once you do this the whatever menus that are available in the top level will not be available anymore.
Maybe, you could copy the standard Top-level navigation into a framework page that you have created and then make the change. After doing so, you can assign it to groups/roles you want. This will ensure that the CONTENT/SYSTEM/USER administrators see the normal portal framework and specific user groups alone dont see the Top level navigation..

Setting and calling top level varialbes

Is there away to call and set a top level variable from a
child component that way i can access the variable no matter where
i am from inside the application. For example i have a login
component that gets the userid. I would then like to set that
userid to a scope that can be accessed from any other component as
i use the userid to validate other cfc calls and so on.

Application.application should get you there.

How to have some top level menu items not be hyperlinks

I have a navigation band where 5 of the 6 top level items need to NOT be hyperlinks but simply "category titles" that you mouseover to display the submenu - which are the links to web pages.
An example of this is on the Amazon.com home page - the items under "Shop All Departments" has categories that are not clickable, but when you mouseover display the clickable submenu.
Is it possible to customize some but not all of the top menu items and how?
What do I need to modify in the CSS so that the top "category title" looks/behave the submenu (same font color/bgcolor changes) but no active hyperlink?

Here is a link to my pagewhere I am testing the navigation. Currently there is only this one page and I have <a href="#"> for the links.
The only menu item that should be clickable in the top level is "Contact"
Everything in the second and third level (Events > Research >...) needs to be clickable
Everything is working as I want except that "Research" needs to be clickable
- and I would like to have the clickable item text be underline when in the hover state but I want to get the base navigation working first
The closest matching code I found in the CSS is:
