Applying Blending Options to many layers?

I was wondering if it is possible to apply blending options, such as lighten, to multiple layers faster than clicked each individual layer and setting the blending options for each one. Specifically I am have a whole bunch of pcitures, I loaded the files into a stack and want to just make them all lightened. Can anyone help me?

Create a layer style. From layer > layer style > blending options, set your blending mode and then click the new style button. Be sure to check "include layer blending options". Then select all the layers at once and apply the style using the styles panel (window > styles). If you use layer effects on any of the layers, be sure to uncheck that option when you save the style so you don't override your layer effects when you apply the style.

  • Layer Style/Blending options applying to all layers ie.. drop shadow angles

    I am having a problem in CS6 Photoshop where I never experienced this in CS3-5.
    I am designing a website and when I apply a drop shadow or inner shadow to a layer through layer style/blending options in the layers tab. It applys the same angle etc.. to all the other layers I have done styles too...
    I will have 5 + layers done with styles and I will make a new layer and give it a shape, open up blending options and when I do a drop shadow and change the angle I literally can see everything on my layout change angles also when I move it around for just ONE layers style... What on earth is going on? This makes it impossible to make unique designs unless I keep flattening my PSD and transfering stuff over which destroys workflow.

    Thank you for the reply's. I actually was able to figure it out shortly after making this thread.
    @Noel Carboni: I needed to change the direction of the light for an inner shadow on a set of arrows for a slider. If they were the same angle it would look horrific.

  • Feedback: Adjusting Blending Options over layer in Photoshop?

    Hi all, I've got a really simple problem that i cant seem to find anywhere to configure it out. I've used photoshop for real long time and as i used it more and more often for my painting, i cant help but feel that the "Double-Clicking" when mouse over a particular layer, which shortcuts into the "Blending Options" is seriously bothering me too much for my personal preference.
    The thing is, i liked that blending options thing on layers and what it does but i never really does use it when i'm using my photoshop for painting. Even if i did i wanted to use it i can right click and click on the blending options myself. What i hate is the amount of time it takes and lags when a blending options window is being closed, when i didn't make any modifications at all!
    As i go through my layers fast in photoshop, i run into these problem alot where my wacom pen accidentally double click on a layer where i just wanted to drag it or rename it. Sometimes it really make my heart jump when it just freezes there for 10+ seconds. My computer is rather new while its operating on windows vista i seriously don't think that is the problem of the lag.
    It could be the big dimensions of my photoshop layers and the way of my working that makes it lag alot when the blending options window closes(even though i did nothing), but i just want to solve this problem by by adjusting the double click / blending options configuration fuctions, but seriously i cant seem to find it anywhere. I've also looked into keyboard shortcuts, menu shortcuts, preferences but its not there. I've also searched around the forum no one else seem to discuss this before.
    So I hoped someone here actually can help me with this it'll really be doing me a big favor. Its seriously getting on my nerves... sometimes it freezes for 15 mins when i'm on my biggest ps file which is like 8000X8000 pixels.
    If Not, I hope to give a feedback to the adobe photoshop community and hope that our great Photoshop will keep improving better, by adding a way to actually make it possible and customize the 'blending options' over a particular layer shortcut to another shortcut so that it won't cause a problem for a user like me.
    I also hope to suggest that it'll be alot better if there is a a straightforward direct feedback system that can feedback the message straight to Adobe through the programme itself ( although this is beside my main point) because it actually takes quite a while for me to register and figure out navigate my way through this forum and finally find a way to give an effective feedback. I believe many users will not bother to actually go through all this just to provide a feedback and I believe this will prove to be effective feedback for Adobe.
    If I had any issues that I had left out or I didn't know, please do kindly let me know, cause i just registered here. Thanks for reading.
    Cheers,
    Eonridr.

    HA! I happened to stumbled upon the answer to my own question:
    Use MAIN MENU > EDIT >
    In the KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS and MENUS POP-UP, select
    Twirl open the LAYER section
    Scroll down and select
    A text field will appear
    Simply type the keyboard command you want to use!
    NOTE: an ALERT will warn you if your shortcut is already in use

  • Where has the Blending option of Premiere CS3 gone ?

    In older version of Premiere, just like in Photoshop, there was the blending option for 2 layers of video, such as overlay, screen, lighten, etc.
    But now in Premiere CS3, I can't find this blending option. Where is this option located in ? Or any better substitues have taken its place ?
    Thanks in advance for your answer.
    Best Regards

    Thanks Jeff for your reply.
    As far as I can remember, in the Transparency setup of Effect Control of version 6.x, there were some blending option such as screen, multiply, luminance, etc. But of course the options were not as many as that in Photoshop. The screen and multiply effects are very useful and frequently used. In CS3, I think the Opacity effect is equivalent to the Transparency effect of versions 6.x. But there is no setup in Opacity effect.
    I'll have a look at the Calculations effect.
    Thanks again Jeff.

  • No blending options in layers.

    I recently upped my opinion of Illustrator and was really impressed with how I could change the appearance in the layers panel.
    Now unable to find it. Using a mac and CS5.5 when selecting drop down button it is not there any more. Layer options only gives silly basic options like the name of the layer etc. I just don't know what's happened.
    Created a brushed metal effect and unable to save as graphic style.
    Anyone know what to do with this? This layers blending options was excellent and I can't really use much of the programme without it.

    Hi
    With respect to Monika and Wade - who are both right, by the way - I still think that what you have seen and describe as the Layers Panel, is in fact the Appearance Panel.
    The Appearance Panel does allow you to access the Transparency Panel from within it and you can apply transparency effects (blending modes) to specific attributes or to an entire object. Learning how to use it can really help streamline your work in Illustrator, so please do give it a go!
    I've crudely recreated the graphic from your movie (apologies in advance - it really is crude).
    The appearance - which will work as a graphic style - looks like this in the panel, and it's easy to confuse this with the Layers Panel at first glance.
    The best bet though is for you to analyse the file, and it's available here: http://www.filedropper.com/forumsappearance
    I hope that helps, and encourages you to explore a bit deeper into Illustrator.

  • Applying multiple blending options to same layer?

    How could I apply multiple layer blending options to a single layer? Currently, when I select a blending option and switch to another, it removes the previous blending option
    Thanks.

    You can duplicate the layer and set the top layer to the second blend mode. Or you can create an adjustment layer, and set its blending mode to the preferred second mode (this will blend a merged visible copy of the layers below back into the visible stack). It depends on what you're trying to do. In general though, blending modes are a blend of one layer's pixels into a merged visible copy of those below, so adding two modes to a layer seems to me impossible.

  • Blend To Only Certain Layers?

    Hello all,
    I have only recently started using the blending options and am loving it! Most of my files have in excess of 20 layers. Is there a way to blend a layer to only certain layers instead of every layer below it? I'd prefer to not use a mask to attempt this as many of the layers have fine edges, featherd edges, etc. Thank you.

    Follow Up: I did not present that scenario correctly. I have several layers that contain feathered edges, etc. (see blue arrow). I need to apply the blend, but mask the excess beyond the image (see red arrow). I can duplicate all the layers below it, merge them, place them above the blend layer, and choose "create clipping mask", but that hides the exact opposite of what I'd like to show up. Any suggestions?

  • How to change blending mode on multiple layers at the same time

    I'm using CS5. I have a document with about 70 layers. I would like to change the blending mode to "lighten" for each layer. Is there an easy way to do this?

    Photoshop doesn't allow multiple layer editing. That's why the styles are grayed out. Only 1 layer at a time.
    What version are you talking about?
    CS5 definitely let’s one apply a Style to multiple Layers.
    rfcommagere, I don’t know how to make it much clearer:
    • set the Blending Mode on one Layer
    • with that Layer selected create a Style with »Include Layer Blending Options« checked
    • select all other Layers that should have that Blending Mode
    • click the Style in the Styles Panel

  • "Blend If" indication in Layers Panel

    My periodic 18 month request to have an icon Layers Palette to indicate if "Blend If" Blending Option is active. It is playing detective to track a Blend If down. It would be nice to have an indication not only if Blend If Grey, but Blend If R,G and/or B as well. Very frustrating if you use Blend If a lot, like I do.

    When 'Blend If' is used there is an entry in layerEffects this is 'scale', unfortunatly scale is used in other effects so a script can't tell if Blend If has been used on a layer, except when no other effects have been used on that layer.
    It would be a great idea if they were shown as you have them.
    Here is a script for you to play with, best I could do.
    #target photoshop
    hasBlendIf();
    function hasBlendIf(){
    if(!documents.length) return;
    var ref = new ActionReference();
    ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID("Lyr "), charIDToTypeID("Ordn"), charIDToTypeID("Trgt") );
    var desc = executeActionGet(ref);
    if(desc.hasKey(stringIDToTypeID("layerEffects"))){
        desc = executeActionGet(ref).getObjectValue(stringIDToTypeID('layerEffects'));
        if(desc.hasKey(stringIDToTypeID('scale'))){
        if(desc.count == 1) {
            alert("This layer looks like it has 'Blend If' applied.");
            return;
                }else{
                    alert("This layer may have 'Blend If' applied.");
                    return;
    alert("This layer does not have 'Blend If' applied.");

  • Why can't I record certain blending options using actions?

    I'm trying to make some recordings/actions, which I've done alot before, but I can't get all of my blending options to record.  Specifically the curves to my bevel & emboss and my contour....after playing the action, it will apply the DEFAULT bevel and won't remember any of my gloss contour settings.  Can anyone explain why?
    I also have a second question someone might know...  I'm trying to make these actions universal, however when I select a layer to modify, it records the name of the layer I click on...so if i use the recording later on a different file and it doesn't have that same layer name, then the action won't work...  is there some way around this?

    It sounds like your recording adding layer styles.  IMO is is not possible to record universal layer style Actions for layer style setting are absolute pixel values.   To automate universal layer styles you would need a script where you can use logic to retrieve sizes and resolution so you can set the approbate layer style setting.  When it come to actions you best off recording layer style for actions that deal with a particular document size. Like web size documents or for print size documents etc.  Layer style can be scaled with menu options and image size check box.  Sill Actions can not retrieve information about document to know how to scale layer styles.
    When it come to layers better actions will reference layers in a relative manner rather then by name.  You can select layers in a relative way like bottom top forward backward.  You can also move layer in the layer stack in a relative manner.  So you can add a layer it will be the current Photoshop target somewhere in the layer stack  then you can move it to the top of the stack, know where it is. When you add  an additional layer they will be on top and you can move it relative to the previous top you just added for you know its relative position.

  • Help with blending options

    I can't seem to find blending options for layers anywhere in Elements 3.0. . . I'm trying to follow this guide: http://www.pixeldigest.com/contentbox001.html It says to right-click the layer and choose Blending options. But I don't see that anywhere? Could someone point me in the right direction?
    TIA :)

    Kevin,
    Open the layers palette. At the top on left you should see a box with a drop down arrow. The default is "normal." Click on another option to visualize the change. If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, you can scroll through the entire list.

  • Photoshop CS2 Layer Styles / Blending Options stopped working

    I'm running Photoshop CS2 on PC. When right clicking on layers to bring up the Layer Styles / Blending Options palette, I can get the palette okay but the selections won't work when I check the boxes.
    I try to select different options....drop shadow, inner shadow, etc. but nothing shows up. It's not a preview problem because the changes are not visible in my image even after I select OK.
    I've reset my preferences (alt+ctl+shift) but it didn't help.
    Can anyone suggest to me what I can do to wake up this palette?? I've got work pending and my online searches have left me empty handed.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    Thank you both for your responses.
    John: The file is PSD, RGB mode, 300dpi. Last night, I tried the layer styles in another file and it wouldn't' work.... another NEW file. Today, I opened an existing file that had layers styles already in effect and I can see them, I can click them on/off AND I can put layer styles onto other layers in the existing files that did not have them previously. I just tried creating a new file and, of course, the layer styles now work in the NEW file.... this is something I tried last night and it didn't work at that time.
    Ed: Yes, I'm on the right layer. I've tried it on several layers, none of which are transparent. Thanks for the heads up.
    So, this tells me it's something to do with this particular image file. I must've accidentally hit something that's put it into a strange mode. Last night, out of frustration, I just gave up, shut it all down, and turned the computer off. This morning, I went in and created a new image document and then one by one I copied and pasted the layers of my malfunctioning image into the new one. Now I can get the layers to work.
    I have no idea what was wrong, but it seems I should just trash the problematic file and start fresh. At least the individual layers were not compressed and it's still salvagable.
    Thank you both for your time and consideration!

  • Save layer with styles such as blending options

    Hello,
    I have a web design made in photoshop, containing of different layers, such as:
    Header
    Content
    Footer
    Logo
    Etc.
    The logo-layer is graphic with blending option Outer glow attached to it, and therefore has the Fx-icon attached to it (with the eyes).
    I want to save down only the pixels of the logo - in order to save it down as logo.png/jpg. The problem appears when i try to do this:
    Copy layer styles only copies the style, and not the actual graphics
    Trying to copy the layer into a new document results in graphics pasted in the correct way, but without the blending option.
    Right-clicking on the eye-icons, and choosing Create layers almost gets the job done.The problem here is that the second layer produced (from the outer glow effect) is set with Fill to 75%. When I try to merge the two layers created, the fill-setting isn't included.
    My current solution to this problem is to hide all the layers except for the logo layer(s), select all and hit Ctrl + Shift + C to Copy All Merged. Then i paste the copy into a new document and saves.
    This is a half *** solution that I don't like - and I would greatly appreciate any insights I could get on this.
    Thanks!

    Trying to copy the layer into a new document results in graphics pasted in the correct way, but without the blending option.
    If you drag the layer into a new document, (as opposed to copy/paste), all its properties will go with it.
    Or, just choose Image > Duplicate, Alt-Click the logo layer's eye icon in the Layers Panel, (to hide all other layers), crop as desired, and Save For Web.

  • Small Bug in Flash 8: loading swf that´s a vectorized image in many layers

    Hi! There´s a small bug in flash 8. If you load a swf
    that it´s a vectorized image in many layers, when you give it
    an action in onLoadInit, like mc.onRelease, the mc don´t
    "catch" that action. You can try loading an image (it works), a lot
    of swf (it works), but with this kind of swf the actions onRelease,
    onPress, etc... don´t work.
    The
    swf
    I´ll make a different vectorized image to make it works
    (if there is only one layer it works)

    Seems odd it will only run once. Usually if a cache problem
    you get the same
    results even when you update the movie or server scripts.
    If it is
    http:// it is not local even if from the browser
    cache.
    Verify the html is validated.
    Check to see if this applies to all swfs. Create a simple
    hello world swf
    that connects to a JSP script that returns a simple value to
    Flash. If that
    seems to work, then the problem is in the JSP or
    Actionscripting coding.
    Check you can load the JSP script repeatedly using a direct
    call to it on
    the browser line using
    http://.

  • Blending options / knockout functionality problem in PS CC 2014

    Hello!
    I've been experimenting with blending options and especially the knockout effect recently, and have discovered that it's function doesn't appear to work correctly.
    For example:
    If I have a basic three layer setup as described under;
    The only way to get the intended functionality out of knockout seems to be to use the original prelocked background layer. I have not been able to duplicate the results in the first image with any other combination of layering, blending options or layer groups. To the best of my ability, I cannot fathom a way for the knockout settings to have an impact on the image in any other condition than the one mechanically identical to the first image.
    So my question is in two parts, have I discovered a bug and this is not the way the knockout function is supposed to work? Or if not, am I going about this the wrong way; how the knockout function is supposed to be used and how it's intended to work?
    Obviously the same effect can be achieved through masking and a few more destructive means, but the simplicity of the knockout would be far superior if it were to work properly - the way I imagine it should.
    Thank you for your input!

    Maybe this will help understand the knockout function better
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/knockout-reveal-content-layers.html#knockout_to_rev eal_content_from_other_layers
    In your third example, one needs to have a "Real" background layer.
    That can be done by going to Layer>New>Background from Layer.
    (a photoshop document can only have one background layer)
