Applying effects in the timeline.

If I have multiple clips in the timeline and want to give them all the same
video effect attributes, how do I go about doing that? I know no other way
other than going into each clip seperately and doing it one by one.

make a filter pack :
create a new bin in your project (the bin is the filter pack)
drag and drop the filters from your clip into the bin
name each with a numbered prefix to indicate the order to stack them
drag and drop the bin onto the other clip(s) to apply all filters with settings

  • Speed effects and the timeline

If I apply a speed (time maping) effect on a clip it effects all the other clips on the same track that are further past the clip I'm applying the speed effect to. For examlple if the clip was 4 seconds long and now it is 4 seconds and 5 frames if there are any other clips that follow the effected clip they have been moved down the timeline an additional 5 frames. Is there any way to have the speed effect not move the other clips? Moving the speed effect to its own track and locking all the other tracks is a very tedious process. Any ideas?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Or create a new video track and move the clip you want to do the speed change on to it. Lock all the other video and audio tracks and do your speed change. If you option click on the lock icon next to the track I think it will lock all the other tracks (or something like that).

  • Unable to apply transitions in the timeline

Have copied 4 video clips into the timeline and am unable to create any video transitions between them. I have tried to selecting the area between the two. I am able to this, but when I try to use the Effects/video transitions/cross dissolve I get the message:
"There was insufficient media for the requested transition at one or more edit points. Would you like to accept the others?"
Video transitions worked without a hitch in my earlier versions of FCP?

I'm not having the same problem, but it's definitely not a handle/media problem.  I can't even apply transitions to text clips... *or to a Through Edit* where I know there's continuous media.  I've tried Command-T, dragging the transition icon from the Browser, copying and pasting, and right-clicking on the edit point and selecting "Add Transition... ".
I've also tried repairing permissions, trashing my preferences, starting a new project and moving all of the elements into the new project, and starting a new Sequence.  NOTHING WORKS.
    Please advise, thanks.

  • FCP X crashes when dragging effects into the timeline

FCP X will crash when I try to drag an effect from the effects panel into the timeline. This happens for effects, transitions, titles - the lot.
The weird thing is, this only happens on some events, others are fine. Has anyone else experienced this and/or found a fix?
    Thanks,
    J

Unfortunately I can't get that far in the process to be able to answer your question.
The crash doesn't occur when I try to add a transition to a file or storyboard - it happens when I try to drag the transition outside of it's own panel.
As you can see in the screenshot, when the file being dragged touches the red line, FCP shuts down without warning.
    Very confusing and annoying!

  • Adjust effects in the timeline

Hi all, thanks in advance for your answers to this...
I still can't figure out how to adjust effect parameters of a clip in the timeline... It seems like sometimes when I right click (w mighty mouse) on a clip in the timeline, instead of pulling up the paste attributes, etc menu, it pulls up a smaller one that lists only the effects on that certain clip.
Of course, in crunch deadline situations (which more and more these days seems like every second of my edit day) this would save oodles of time since I wouldn't have to open the clip in the browser and navigate through the effects menu to make a simple adjustment. Usually I will put standard color correction effects on clips and know exactly what to adjust, so this shortcut could potentially save me days of time (bwahahaha!) so I can maybe finish at 6 or 630 instead of 8 or 830 every night.
Thanks, I appreciate you all making my life more diverse through enlightening me to this shortcut.

OK, I think I've found what you want...kinda, sorta...
FCP5 manual Vol. III, pg. 286, discusses "Working with the Timeline Keyframe Editor"
First, you have to already have keyframes placed. Next, activate the 'Clip Keyframes' toggle (bottom left of the timeline), then contol-click (right-click) on the same Clip Keyframes toggle/control and choose Video or Audio or Select All for both.
Now you right-click in the keyframe editor area beneath the clip you want to work on and choose the filter or motion parameter you want to display.
At this point you can drag individual keyframes up/down, back/forth with numeric representation of your parameter...but it doesn't give you a way to 'type in' a parameter that I can see.
    Hope that helps,
    K

  • Applying Effects: Dragging the Only Way?

Is dragging the only way to apply effects / presets to a clip?
Are there no keyboard methods / shortcuts to do this?

As Harm says, there is only one, the Default Transition (that can be changed).
The closest that one can come to semi-automation would be to drag any/all Effects to, say the first Clip, and make any settings changes there. When you are satisfied with the Effects and their settings, Rt-click on it an choose Copy. Select all other Clips to which you would want the same Effects and settings applied (Lasso'ing them will work in most cases) and once Selected, Rt-click on these, choosing Paste Attributes. Done.
Consider the number of Effects that ship with PrPro, plus the common ones that folk add. There are no enough possible key combos to cover half of them, even if you remapped everything to just Effects. Unfortunately, PrPro (unlike PS) does not do scripting.
    Good luck,

  • Applying transitions in the timeline

Hi, I have recently created a dvd of videos and stills but when viewed on a tv the stills are pixelated. I originally created the sequences in premiere and rendered them out as mp4, to use in encore. However, when the the movie is played the still images look pixelated and in some it very noticeable.
So i thought i would just try and create the whole thing in encore, i'm not doing anything complicated just putting stills and videos together with music and with fade transistions between each clip.
Putting the assets together is no problem but i can't find away to apply transitions between clips in encore. I know you can in a slideshow, but a slideshow doe snot accept video files.
It seems really absurd to be that i can't create a still/video mix without one type being bad quality.
I am aware that this post could go in the premiere forum but hoped someone here might have an answer for me.
I am renerding out my sequences from premiere as mp4s h.264, as they produced a descent file size and didn't degrade in quality when compared to an avi or mov.
    Any ideas would be apprecitated
    Thanks,

I am using the cs4 suite.
I am not trying to create a bluray disc, i don't have a bluray writer or reader, i just got the best output and smallest size using h.264; instead of 800MB or sometimes over a GB for about 6mins of footage, i got it reduced to 200MB. I am a bit unsure of the best formats for this type of thing.
My output size is 720x480 as that is the size of the videos taken, they are in avchd format, and each picture is scaled down using PRs "scale to frame size" function, all of the pictures are good quality either from a DLSR or similar so the qulaity of the images before render is not the issue.
What is the best export format from PR for a mix of still images, audio and video? The images look good on my computer screen just not on the tv or when projected.
    Thanks for all your help

  • Apply effect to selected part of the movie

Hi, I'm working in a movie and I would like to select just a bit (for instance, one minute) and apply and effect to this one-minute part.
    How can I do it?
Thanks very much in advance for your answer

Hi, thanks for your answer. I think I do as you say.
I mark the I and O points. It is highlighted. I dropped the effect on the timeline or on the clip but it affects to all the movie.
I can not see any way to apply it only to the highlighted section. Maybe I'm doing something wrong??? or did I miss anything????
Thanks again. Looking forward to your answer

  • The right audio channel is no longer heard after effect assignment in the timeline

Sorry, but my English is not so good, but I try to explain the problem:
Once I clip any one assigns an effect in the timeline, works when playing only the left audio channel channel. Once I pull the clip from the timeline into the project window again, then works again the left and the right channel. How do I get the right audio channel in the interface window active again?

When I look at the properties of the file in QuickTime, here's what it shows:
    DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720 x 480 (640 x 480)
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Left
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Why it's telling me the other 3 channels are unused, I have no idea. They certainly are getting used. The footage was shot in stereo and Final Cut plays it in stereo.

  • Why can't I drag things to the timeline?

I decided to upgrade to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 last night after long debate and not wanting to spend the money. Everything is going pretty well now after transferring my project created using Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 into the new program.
But now I just can't figure out why it won't let me drag media, video/audio transitions, or video/audio effects to the timeline or Effect Controls screen. I'm getting the little No Smoking/Ghostbusters symbol next to my cursor when I try to click and drag those items. Can anyone help? I've searched the help file in the program, the Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 Help.pdf file, did numerous Google searches, and searched this Forum.
Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong here? I was trying very hard to not waste anyone's time with a simple question if I could find the answer on my own, but I don't want to waste this entire weekend trying to figure out these problems if there's a simple resolution. :)
    Thanks!
    Matt

Hey! Hang on... I was wrong about the Gspot settings being exactly the same. My newly captured video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 (800MB file size) also says "File Length Correct". My video originally captured in Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 (it says 500MB file size, but it's actually 8.9GB) says:
    "Corrupt AVI Header:
This is an invalid AVI file due to corruption of the data in the header. This is a serious problem, and this file is not likely to playable (I'm not the one who typed this sentence all screwy and without end punctuation)
Details: While processing chunk /RIFF:AVI, found bad length value 1069461800 at file offset 0x0000fc94"
Just to check if the other camcorder tape that I transferred in had the same problem, I checked my other video file with a supposedly 1,820MB file size, though it's actually 10.2GB, and that file says "File Length Correct".
So it looks like this is not a file corruption issue with upgrading from Adobe Premiere Element 3.0 to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, but possibly a corrupt file. However, it works fine now and I haven't come across any video problem yet.
This also doesn't explain the bass boost problem, but I am going to focus on that now.
Thanks everyone for your input, and thank you Steve about the Gspot tip!

  • How to modify the timescale on the Timeline view in MSP 2010

I created Timeline's for some projects using MSP 2010.  Some Tinelines display quarters and others display months.  I can't find an option to change the Timeline timescale.  I tried switching the timescale onthe Gantt view but it
had no effect on the Timeline view.
Is there a direct or indirect way to change the timescale units on the Tineline view time scale?

Click in  the Timeline view and the ribbon bar for Timeline will be activated.  On the left side you should see Date Format.  Use this to select the date format you would like to view.
As i adjust the timescale using the zoom in the lower right corner it seems to be adjusting the date density.  Keep in mind that this view will also adjust to the density necessary to show the entire project in the view.  When you click on the
View tab (ribbon) you can use the option for the entire project.  Note that the Timescale options are not available.
I suggest for the best use of this view to use it at a high level.  What I recommend is to show summary and milestone taaks only.

  • How do I select a photo from the timeline to apply an effect.

I am tryiing to select an individual photo on the timeline to apply an effect like a zoom or pan.

    Jules789
I suspect your answer is for you to right click the video (your slideshow in video .psess format) now on the Premiere Elements 11 Expert workspace Timeline and then select and click on "Break Apart Elements Organizer Slideshow" command. The command will achieve that and you should be able to move forward with your editing plans.
The above applies if these are the details of your workflow which I believe to be the case....
    1. In the Elements Organizer 11 Slideshow Editor you put together some photos and used the Slide Show Editor's Cross Dissolve transition in the Slideshow Editor slideshow.
    2. You outputted the slideshow from the Elements Organizer 11 Slide Show Editor using the Output option of Edit with Premiere Elements Editor.
    3. When you do that you will find in Project Assets, a folder with the projects assets as well as one copy of the slideshow as a video in .psess format. There will also be a copy of the .psess video on the Timeline.
    4. When you use that route, the Break Apart Elements Organizer Slideshow command is available to you in order for you to make additional significant edits to the slideshow before a burn to.
If you use any of the Slide Show Editor options to create the wmv version of the slideshow (Burn to Disc or Save As A File Movie wmv), the file on the Timeline will be a whole video in wmv format. That cannot be broken apart with the Break Apart Elements Organizer Slideshow command.
Please review my assumptions and speculations and let us know if the answer that I provided was appropriate under the circumstances.
If not, lots more details please.
    Thanks.

  • I have iMovie HD 2004 and when i try to apply effects to my video clip, the clip turns red. WHY? HEEELLLPPP!

I am trying to compile a cute little movie for my boyfriend and everything was going fine until I applied an effect to one of my video clips. I tried to apply the "vintage film" effect and the video clip turned red. I undid that effect and tried 3 other effect and the same thing happened. Red clips... :/ whhhyyy? someone help me? I'm poor and I haven't been able to upgrade my very old iBook (2004), so i have the old version of iMovie HD...Can somebody help me? pleeeeeease?

    diegogo
Irregardless of the Premiere Elements version...
I do not believe you are doing anything wrong. I have not found it possible to copy a Timeline clip to which Time Remapping has been applied and use Paste Effects and Adjustments to other selected clips on the Timeline to achieve the same fast or slow motion for more than one clip at a time. For one thing the duration of the Time Remapped clip is different than those that have not gone through Time Remapping.
And, you cannot select more than 1 clip at a time to be taken into the Time Remapping workspace.
Also, special considerations need to exist for Pan and Zoom Tool for its pan and zoom effect applied to more than one photo at a time.

I will think about this some more. But, at this moment, it appear to be it is what it is.

  • Effect changes in the timeline not changing output.

So I used and external matte key ("set matte" in premiere speak). Rendered it and output it. The client wanted it to occur earlier. So I slide the matte reference clip earlier in the time line, leaving the effected clip in place.
Now the effect occurs (somewhat) twice. It happens in the new timing where is should, then it happens where it did (but without the background, just the foreground being keyed over black.) So it's seems to be trying to apply a matte key where there is no matte clip on the matte reference layer, but there WAS a matte clip in the reference layer
I've reapplied the effects, relayed the video tracks, deleted the renders about a hundred times and rerendered, applied solid black/white to the matte reference layer, anything I can think of. It seems this effect is somehow "Cached" in the timeline and won't get released.
It gets weirder. Sometimes I'll render it and it looks fine. Then I'll output a (Prores HQ) master and the black will be in the output, but not the master. Then I'll reopen the master and it's got the black.
I remember posting a similar question a while ago, but never saw any final resolution. How can the output file be different from the rendered timeline? It's starting to make me feel like premiere is almost unusable if you can't reliably get a product out. For me, this is a serious problem.
Anyone have any idea? There may be a simple solution, I just can't figure it out.
    Thanks.

    Jeff,
    I got it figured out:
File / Revert to Original did not work.
    However, this did work:
The updated PPro Sequence was/is shown in the Encore Project Assets panel, so...
I deleted the old/exising Timeline (in Encore).
I highlighted the new/updated Premiere Pro Sequence in the Encore Project Assets panel.
I clicked on the 'Create A New Item' icon at the bottom of the Project Assets panel.
    Then, I clicked on 'Timeline'
It  (Encore) then created a New Timeline from the newly/update sequence that I had updated in PPro.
As far as the difference between a Timeline and a Sequence goes, I think I also answered that question for myself also..
A 'sequence' is an asset that can be used in a Timeline.
A 'timeline' is an organization of assets layed out in chronological order.
I do appreciate your help though.  Everyone on the forum has been great!
    Thanks again!

My AE pops up saying "copy save" whenever i try to scroll through the timeline, then when i click save it doesnt work, so i click cancel, and AE crashes, ive tried for HOURS AND HOURS AND IM SO STRESSED! I HAVE THINGS TO DO AND I NEED HELP!

What exact version number of AE CS5.5 do you have? Help>About will tell you.
Your composition settings will tell you your composition settings. And surely you must know what sort of footage you have in your scene and what effects you've applied.
Also, the exact wording of any and all error messages would help.
