Applying filters to pdf files in Motion causes pixelization-why???

I have a mult-layered map of Europe made in Illustrator and all layers imported as separate pdf files in Motion 4. But when I apply any filters to the pdf files…they become severely pixelated…they look terrible.
How come this only happens with pdf files and not with any other format.
Can pdf files not handle effects of any kind in Motion?

Assuming you are scaling up your vector layers and you have fixed resolution turned off. Applying a filter rasterizes the layer before it gets transformed, i.e., scaled - that's the reason. The solution is to apply the filter to a group containing the layer so that it is scaled first, then the filter is applied.

  • Applying backgrounds to PDF files

Using Mac OS X 10.5 and Adobe CS3 Design Premium.
Acrobat will not allow me to apply a background file or color to a pdf file that I created on the Mac. I'm using the Apple Numbers program and thought something might be wrong with the pdf creation, so I tried creating the pdf 1) through the Mac "Save as PDF" setting and then 2) selecting the Adobe PDF 8.0 printer setting and it still makes no difference.
Interestingly I took the pdf file from the Mac to Windows and I still cannot apply a background. This makes me think there's something wrong in creating Mac pdf files.
I've just converted to the Mac and this functionality had worked fine in the Windows world.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

The background image file is a pdf file and it works properly in the Windows environment, so I don't think that's the problem.
After some more testing, my guess is that it's a Apple iWork bug. Interestingly, when using Windows applications in Fusion (XP pro) on my Mac, I can print to the pdf printer, move the file to my Mac desktop, run Acrobat Pro for Mac and I can apply the background. However when I create any pdf files from Apple Numbers or Pages, I cannot apply backgrounds.
I appreciate the offer to test using my files, so I'll post them this weekend.

  • Applying OCR to PDF files

Can I use Acrobat Standard or Pro 9 to apply OCR to existing PDF files of statements(scanned to .tiff @ 600DPI and converted to PDF)?
Also, can I do it in batches?

Yes, using Acrobat 9 (both Std and Pro) you can do this in a batch mode(Document > OCR Text Recognition > Recognize Text in Multiple Files using OCR...).

  • Creating PDF files from Quark causes font/image issues. PLEASE HELP.

After creating a PDF file using Adobe Acrobat Professional (using the file>Export to PDF option) from QuarkXPress version 7.3, my client sees and prints distorted letters with various fonts and they even sometimes see lines where they shouldn't be. I don't see these issues on my end, even when I print the documents. For example, I may have a headline of four words, the top of the words are shifted to one side, or sometimes even the top half of the letters are in a different color. Please help soon before I lose my clients... or my mind. Thanks.

We don't use Quark anymore, but I seem to remember that the export to pdf does not use Acrobat Distiller. It is Quark's own pdf maker. If the customer does have Acrobat Professional, then get them to print to the Adobe PDF 'printer' and seeif they get the same problem. They may need to open the Distiller app to set which output settings are used.

  • I downloaded Adobe Reader and cannot open PDF files, can anyone tell me why? or what I need to do.

I am not able to open PDF files or documents.  Why?

Here is my assessment, Claudio.  I know you are revered among your peers and it's very obvious that you live on these forums.  You have undoubtedly helped a lot of people and you will be rewarded in your afterlife for your endeavors here but here's a reality check for both you and Pat:
What lesson did D.Call learn from you?  Likely the lesson was, don't post here or you'll be treated as an imbecile by some hotshot bitwhiz named Claudio Gonzalez.
Did you not see that D.Call said s/he was an inexperienced computer user… and was obviously asking for elementary level assistance?  You were blinded by your belief that your knowledge and expertise is being wasted on anyone who isn’t forthcoming to your expectations.  I merely pointed out that if you think it's such a waste of your time, why dwell?  You should have left Graffiti to work with D.Call and headed off to another thread.  Surely there were other posts requiring your extreme level of higher intelligence.
Think about this:  You don't like it when someone talks down to you as I have here, now do you?  No one does.  Right now as you read this my guess is you are fuming and likely trying to think of a way to smite me.  You can respond to this post in whatever tone or language you choose but I won't take offense.  I’ll be the bigger man… I promise I won't reply so you can have the last word.
When you respond, see if you can take it up a notch and maybe even admit you made a mistake with your corkscrew remark.  I don't think you would ever risk being so disrespectful to D.Call, and most certainly, not to me or anyone else if we were face-to-face.  If you worked in my company, you would be fired for disrespecting my customers.
By the way, do you and Pat have spell check ability?  If you do, you should use it.

  • PDF files open in MS word why?

When I download a PDF file it opens in MS office word and is unreadable, how do I correct this? HP computer using PC and Wi9ndows 7

    Hi John,
I will recommend you to right click on the downloaded file select Properties & check the file extension, make sure its a .pdf file.
If its a .pdf file, please right click on the pdf file & choose 'Open With' then select 'Choose default program'.
Now browse the program Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader & select it, also make sure that 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' is checked.
Click OK to confirm the changes.
Let me know if you still experience any issue.
    Regards,
    Aadesh

  • PDF files are not displayed. Why?

Most of the PDF files I uploaded are not displayed on Creative Cloud. Some I can view page by page, but most are only displayed as generic PDF icon. They are not very complex or difficult files - What is the problem? My InDesign files are displayed nicely. Even GMail displays the PDF files without a problem.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
The problem I have with displaying PDF files is still the same: as soon as they are locked against editing (NOT password protected against opening) files cannot be viewed on Creative Cloud.
I just downloaded one of the files to my computer and e-mailed it to myself: GMail can view it without any problem. It's a bit strange that Google can do something Creative Cloud can't.
And its REALLY annoying that some PDF files just can't be viewed in Creative Cloud
    Thanks for your help!

  • I have ExportPDF and now I cannot open any of my PDF files in my documents. Why?

I just signed up for AdobeExportPDF, and now I cannot open any of my existing PDF documents in my files. Why? How can I fix this?

    Hi harrisonmr,
ExportPDF is an online service, and there's nothing to download to your desktop, so it shouldn't have affected your PDF files. What happens when you try to open the PDF files? Are you opening them in Reader, or trying to open them in a web browser? I did recently work with another customer on this issue, and it turned out that an update to Firefox had somehow affected the file associations on her computer.
Please provide some specifics about how you're opening the files, what type of system you have (Mac OS or Windows), and what happens when you try to open those files.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Every time I try to convert an MS Publisher document to a PDF file, the formatting changes.  Why?

It moves lines down so that some are missing.  I try to adjust my Publisher document and sometimes it works but sometimes not.
Why is this an issue and what can I do to correct it?
    Thanks!

It has to do with the programming. The easiest workaround, if it is available to you, is to use Adobe Acrobat (not Reader), and you can change the position of the text.
However, I found a few other workarounds, it seems that Acrobat is not good at recognizing all fonts, so if your using an outside font, you might want to consider checking the check box that says use local system fonts on your computer, or change the document to use a universal font, such as Arial.
    Hope it works.

  • Pdf files become pixelated when filter effects are applied...

I have some pdf files in my Motion 4 project. When I uncheck the "fixed resolution" box, they pdf files look great. But when I proceed to add any filter effect like any of the Glow filters, the pdf file becomes all pixelated and looks horrible. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    - Nick

Filters fix the resolution, rasterizing the vector graphics. Try make it very large, the apply the filter to the containing layer and shrink the layer to be the desired size...

  • Imported PDF File and unchecked FIXED ASPECT RATIO problems.

I just don't get it. . . . I have imported a pdf file into MOTION 2, unchecked BOTH Fixed Aspect Ratio boxes on both the media and the layers and I am still getting major rasterization!
When I scale up the file in Acrobat, there are NO problems. It's something that I am not doing in MOTION.
    Any help is VERY appreciated.
    Thanks
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

I didn't know you could import PDFs...
Are you putting any filters on it - that causes rasterization...

  • Acrobat Pro 9 - Disable thumbnail preview in PDF file icons on Desktop

After upgrading to Acrobat Pro 9, the file icons of PDF files on my Windows 7  desktop changed to showing a thumbnail preview. I want to get the standard PDF file icon back for all PDF files. Can someone please tell me how?
    Thanks.

Did you ever find an answer for this??? I had the same issue and was searching for an answer. I saw this and since I fixed mine I thought I would tell you what I did. Also, in case someone else finds this and needs an answer.
Opened Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options
    Go to the View tab
Check "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
    Hit Apply
All your PDF files on your desktop should now show with the generic PDF icon.
Reverse this to get the preview icon "thumbnails".
