Applying keywords to a selection?

Hi,
In 1.01 I could select a number of photos, open the keyword HUD, then drag a keyword from the HUD to one of the selected images. All the images would then receive the keyword.
Now, in 1.1 when I try this, only the image that I drag the keyword to gets the keyword? This this functionality change? How can I apply a keyword to a selection of images?
Thanks,
Allan

  • Aperture not applying keywords to all selected images

    OK, so I've been categorizing for a couple of days now, and everything's going fine. I'm going through around 200gb of files, applying keywords to each one.
    Today, I opened Aperture and tried to start where I left off. I selected a bunch of files and dragged a keyword from the Keyword HUD to the selection, just as I've been doing all along. For some reason, today Aperture only applies the keyword to the image I'm on when I release the mouse, not the others in the selection.
    Any clue what's going on here?

    Ignore this post--I went through the archives and found a reference to "Primary Only," which turned out to be my problem.

  • Problem applying keywords to a selection of images

    I've tried applying keywords to multiple images as described in the aperture manual but it doesn't work for me. When I drag keywords from the keyword HUD to a selection of images only the first image will contain the keyword when I check it. I get the same result when typing in the keyword menu at the bottom right of the screen.
    I don't want to use the batch change dialogue because this erases all other keyword content before applying the new keywords. This is really annoying, any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    No, I've just done the same thing a few times and took me a bit to figure out. Being able to toggle this on and off is helpful if say you're adding a bunch of keywords to a selected, and one or two need tags specific to them, then you toggle this on, drop the keywords they need, then toggle off and finish tagging them all with other keywords.

  • Aperture apply keywords to multiple selections

    I cannot apply a keyword to more than one image at a time.
    I select multiple images and drag a keyword to one of the images expecting it to be applied to all of them (as it has in the past) but it only gets applied to one.
    Did I set something to prevent multiple updates?
    Thanks
    Harv

    Here's how I do it.
    Goto Window Menu, then Show Control Bar.
    Again Window Menu, then Show Keyword Controls.
    This places a set of buttons along the bottom control bar with the keywords I set up in the keyword HUD. It has a pull-down menu within it to select different groups of keywords depending again on how you set it up. Select multiple images, call up the grouping you need and click the buttons. All the images get keyworded.
    Hope this helps.

  • Applying keyword to multiple images

    I'm going through many thousands of images applying keywords. The keywords are applied with Option 1, 2, etc.
    I am finding that if I have more thn ne image selected, hitting option 1 applies the keyword to the first image only. Is this expected bahavior? Is there a way for me to apply the same keyword to many images in a selection all at once?
    Michael

    Make sure you don't have Primary Only set.
    It's the middle icon ar the bottom of the browser window.

  • Applying Keywords in Aperture - why can't I do it?

    I'm trying to apply keywords to images by dragging and dropping both from the keyword HUD and the keyword panel, but nothing is happening. Nothing appears either on the image or in metadata. Am I missing something really simple (happens a lot to us seniors), or is there another explanation? I would really appreciate some help on this as I've already spent a long time with Apple & Microsoft to no avail. I thought that upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1 might help, but no luck there either. I hope someone out there can help to stop me climbing the walls!!!

    I'll try be of more help to you than Microsoft
    Are you trying to apply keywords to multiple photos at once? If so it could be that you're in Primary Only mode and the keywords are only being applied to one picture at a time, giving you the impression they're not being applied at all (if you're not checking the selected pic). The control to toggle Primary on/off is the S key - which can easily be hit by mistake.
    If not, try the following:
    • Select a picture.
    • Go to the Metadata pane and from the popup menu select General. You should see a Keywords field.
    • Drag a keyword from the HUD. Has it been added?
    • If not, type a keyword in the Keywords field.
    • With the same picture selected go to Menubar>Metadata>Lift Metadata. When the Lift & Stamp HUD appears deselect everything except Keywords.
    • Select a few pictures and click Stamp Selected Images in the HUD. Have the keywords been added to the selected pics?
    Let us know how this goes…

  • Aperture 3: How to apply keywords to multiple photos?

    Hi,
    I'm trying to apply keywords to multiple photos at once but if I select several photos and add a keyword in the 'metadata' panel it just gets applied to one of the selected photos, not all of them. Is this a bug or am I just doing it wrong?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    I see,
    But that requires that said keyword already exists which slows down the workflow when you're dealing with lots of new keywords, or even existing ones if you have lots and lots of keywords instead of just typing in a keyword (and it perhaps auto-completes). Also I'm somewhat of a keyboard-centric user
    Thanks for the suggestion,
    Sam

  • Applying keywords to subdirectories

    I have a Videos folder with lots of subdirectories, each of which contain lots of video clips.
    I've applied keywords to the bulk of the clips.
    When I'm at the top directory, however, I can't filter based on the keywords.
    Is there any way around this (other than dumping all of my large video files into the same directory)?
    I'd like to keep my videos organized in folders, but I also want to be able to search the entire parent directory with bridge's keyword functionality.
    Thanks

    Hey Curt -
    I'd stumbled on that (the Find command) in the past and subsequentyly forgotten about it - and that works just as you described, giving me the option of searching through my subfolders.  This leaves 2 questions, though.
    1) First, how do you force Bridge to go through and Index the contents of a folder?  (otherwise you have oiption to search non-indexed files along with warning that could take a long time)
    2) What I'd really like to be able to do is use the Filter Panel to select from the list of keywords.  This Filter Panel, however, only seems to make the Keywords found directly inside of its root level available - so if I have a Video folder holding 10 subfolders with different types of videos, all labeled with keywords, none of those words are listed when the Video folder is selected. Instead I have to go into each subdirectory individually and add my filters there.  That's really what I'm trying to work out.  Can you start in a parent directory and filter by keyword to pull up relevant videos from all of its subdirectories.
    Thanks for whatever information you can provide.

  • Applying keywords to groups of images

    I'm having difficulty applying Keywords to groups of images. When I select a group of images in the browser and drag a keyword from the HUD over them, the keyword is only applied to the image onto which it was directly dropped. I'm sure that in the past I've been able to apply a keword to any number of images at once using this technique. What's the obvious thing that I'm doing wrong here?
    Andy.

    "That's probably because you have the toggle primary only selected. It's the rectangle box on the far right of the first set of controls on the bottom of the screen.
    Jeff "
    Or in case you have those controls hidden you can also press 'S'

  • CAN'T APPLY KEYWORDS

    Hello,
    I created template Keywords, checked keywords, saved, select All pictures, append metadata,
    and NOTHING happens, I am showing "multiple values", thanks

    Hi Margieannejulie
    You already have the keywords panel in view according to your screenshot. You are using the default 'essential' Workspace which to my opinion is next to useless but you can easily create and save your own workspace by dragging the panels in size or move them to another location. The lines between columns and panels can be used to change the size and if you click and hold a tab you drag the panels. A horizontal blue lines means between two other panels and a surrounding blue line means adding as a tab to an existing panel.
    Bottom right in your screenshot is the panel keywords.
    Under other keywords are your present keywords in italic, meaning they are not persistent in your keyword list that by the looks of it is also the default one.
    Top right of the keyword panel is a small menu icon. when you click on it it shows a few options. Amongst them New Keyword. If you name this keyword Syrian you can add sub keywords to this keyword.
    Either by using again the menu icon or while with your cursor on the new keyword right click on it and from the menu choose new sub keyword. This adds a sub keyword to Syria that acts as the parent keyword.
    Now you can choose to either create more sub keywords for Syria or add another sub keyword to nest in an existing keyword.
    For example you have all images made in Syria which obvious would be the parent keyword because all files are made in this country.
    Then you can divide the subjects to your own wishes. Let's say you have some opposition fighters with Kalashnikovs in Aleppo that would make a set up like this:
    Syria
         Aleppo
              Syrian opposition fighter
                   Kalshnikov
    This is a keyword with 3 nested sub keywords. In Bridge preferences under Keywords you can set the option to automatically apply parent keywords which to my opinion can be quit useful because it means when you click on the last nested keyword it also auto selects the above keywords. In this case it would mean you select all images of fighters with Kalashnikovs in Aleppo in the bridge content window. Now you only have to click on the keyword called 'Kalashnikov' and automatically the other keywords Syrian opposition fighter, Aleppo and Syria are also selected and applied.
    The pro's of having such a set up instead of all keywords in one template is that you can narrow your search better. If you create other sub keywords under Syria (for instance with children) and you do a search for Syria both the images with children and the fighters will appear as a result. But if you search for the keyword Kalashnikov only the ones with fighters showing guns will show in the result.
    I hope this makes sense
    So take some time in creating a good keyword tree having good main keywords with many sub keywords. Then select the files you want them to apply to and click on the most nested keyword you want to add and the miracle happens.
    You have to take care letting Bridge do all the caching once the activity bar bottom left starts running. Because if you click on another keyword while the previous process in still going on it will start the new job before finishing the old one. Resulting in not having all keywords applied which shows by a minus in the square instead of a checkmark (when all files have the same word applied).
    It seems a lot of work but once you know the principal it is fairly easy. The little extra effort you make at this point will be paid back later on when you have a lot of files in your archive and need to find just the view files you want to have.
    Also be sure to regularly export the keywords list for back up purposes.

  • JS CS3 How to apply wrap options to selected textframes

    If you manually select a number of textframes and then click on the wrap around bounding box option for example it is applied to all the selected items.
    To do this in a script can it be done without looping through each selection?
    For example:
    var myNewGroup = app.selection
    myNewGroup.textWrapPreferences.textWrapType = TextWrapTypes.NONE;
    var myGroup = app.activeDocument.groups.add(myNewGroup);
    This does work but if you have over 1000 text frames selected it takes quite a while.
    for (i=app.selection.length-1; i>=0; i--) {
            app.selection[i].textWrapPreferences.textWrapType = TextWrapTypes.NONE;}
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers, John.

    Thanks again tomaxxi,
    For some reason I keep getting an error Object does not support the property or method textFramePrefernces
    Code:
    var mySel = app.selection;var myGroup = app.activeDocument.groups.add(mySel);
    myGroup.textFramePreferences.ignoreWrap = true;
    myGroup.textWrapPreferences.textWrapType = TextWrapTypes.NONE;
    If I put $.write(myGroup) just after the var myGroup  I get [object Group] and
    $.write(myGroup.constructor.name) returns Group.
    Also tried this but error undefined is not an object.  [ mySel.textFramePreferences.ignoreWrap = true; ]
    var mySel = app.selection;mySel.textFramePreferences.ignoreWrap = true;var myGroup = app.activeDocument.groups.add(mySel);
    myGroup.textWrapPreferences.textWrapType = TextWrapTypes.NONE;
    But $.write(mySel) returned [too many elements] and $.write(mySel.constructor.name) returned Array.
    Cheers, John.

        myXMLElementA.contents = "This is a paragraph in an XML story.";
        var myTextFrame = myPage.textFrames.add({geometricBounds:myGetBounds(myDocument, myPage)});
        myTextFrame.contents = "This is the first paragraph in a text frame.\rThis is the second paragraph in a text frame.\rThis is the third paragraph in a text frame.\rThis is the fourth paragraph in a text frame.\r";
    function mySnippet(){
        //<fragment>
        var myDocument = app.documents.item(0);
        var myPage = myDocument.pages.item(0);
        myDocument.xmlElements.item(0).xmlElements.item(0).markup(myPage.textFrames.item(0));
        //</fragment>
    function myTeardown(){
    function myGetBounds(myDocument, myPage){
        var myPageWidth = myDocument.documentPreferences.pageWidth;
        var myPageHeight = myDocument.documentPreferences.pageHeight
        if(myPage.side == PageSideOptions.leftHand){
            var myX2 = myPage.marginPreferences.left;
            var myX1 = myPage.marginPreferences.right;
        else{
            var myX1 = myPage.marginPreferences.left;
            var myX2 = myPage.marginPreferences.right;
        var myY1 = myPage.marginPreferences.top;
        var myX2 = myPageWidth - myX2;
        var myY2 = myPageHeight - myPage.marginPreferences.bottom;
        return [myY1, myX1, myY2, myX2];
    I think you can use the markup function on the selected item (Text Object have a markup method)

  • Bridge CC crashes when I am applying keywords

    Hello everyone!
    I'm using applied keywords in Bridge to standardize our metadata and it seems that at least once every hour or so I'll be in the middle of adding keywords and Bridge CC will "unexpectedly crash" so none of my changes get saved.
    Has anyone else experienced this? I wondering if it's something I'm not doing correctly.
    Thank you so much!
    Emily

    Photoshop & Bridge CC (downloaded last week)
    That is not the same as having the latest versions, you also ned to check for updates to be sure using the latest versions
    RAW files seem ok, the problem is happening with JPEG pics
    Double check if you have read and write permissions for the files, folders and disks, but first check if you can add other metadata like keywords etc to the problem files. If not it seems definitively a read write permission issue.
    And also check if you have used the correct file naming with no strange characters, only one dot at the end of the filename and the correct extension (preferable .jpg).

  • When I try to assign files to albums, I get the message "error applying keyword tags"

    This just started to happen, not sure why.  I don't assign or use keywords.  It does it on all albums.  I made new albums and it did not work, even on the new albums.  There was one album that did not have the problem, but when I tried to transfer an afftected album's files to it, it developed the problem.  I reset the preferences in both Organizer and Editor, and that did not help.  It prevents me from moving files out of as well as into albums.  Any ideas on what caused this and what I can do about it?  Thanks for any help.

    A last try:
    - what if you try to move the pictures with the common keyword (no album selected) to a new subfolder via the organizer,
    - delete them from the catalog
    - delete the catalog itself
    - and re-import them ?
    There is clearly something wrong with 'normal' or new albums as well in your case.
    Your experience shows that the problem is not only in some albums, it's linked to the catalog itself. If you can create a new catalog and reimport the files of your test album and work normally, then you can test that other catalogs are ok. Otherwise, if all catalogs have the same problems, it's linked to the organizer itself, but I doubt it since you have already deleted the organizer prefs (the psa.prf and status in your 'Roaming' folder).
    I have found that sometimes, using a newer version of Elements (a trial one if you want) and converting the catalog can solve problems; but on the other hand, PSE12 has new problems with converted catalogs... Also, the backup and restore process probably can't help because the catalog database is just copied, not converted.
    What you have done with your test albums means that any meaningful organization is safely stored into the files metadata section, so that you can recover it in other PSE versions, Lightroom, Windows explorer or many organizing softwares. Of course with a large number of albums, that looks like a huge job.

  • Automatically Apply Keywords when file is added to folder?

    I am learning to love Bridge, but the more I learn, the more I see it's shortcomings. I love the idea of automation and I use it a lot but Bridge does seem to fall a little short in the area. I could not find a way to do this so I can only hope they will add features. I want to have Bridge automatically apply keywords to any file that exists, or is added to a folder. This would save a lot of time. It seems Bridge is perfectly suited to this kind of thing, so I really hope they add some automation features!

    The meaning was: Lightroom is oversized (to only buy it) for adding keywords to files. Not everyone has bought Lightroom, not everyone uses CC.
    sinrise: Please give an example where Bridge can automate something. I don't know of any. Everything you do is initiated by mouse clicks.
