Applying keywords to collapsed stacks has changed

Somewhere between LR 3.4 and LR 4.3, the behavior of applying a keyword to a collapsed stack changed.  It used to be that the keyword was applied only to the top photo; now it is applied to all the photos.
This behavior occurs only for adding keywords; if you delete keywords or change flag, label, date, caption, etc. it only applies to the top photo in the stack.
Did I miss a feature announcement in the release notes?

Interesting -- I searched the forums for various combinations of "stack top keyword tag drag" and saw dozens of messages about keywords only applying to the top of the stack, but didn't find any mentioning the inconsistent behavior of dragging.
I don't believe the inclusion of this specific behaviour was discussed in the public or pre release forums. I suspect very few users, including the majority of pre release testers, were aware of it. It's not documented anywhere that I know of, but I expect that will now change...
John R. Ellis wrote:
Any ideas about the inconsistency?  If by design, what's the rationale?
Since the behaviour was never discussed I can only guess as to why the ability to drag and drop keywords works as it does and applying the keywords via the panel doesn't. Anyway, I don't view it as an inconsistency, especially since dragging keywords from the keyword panel on to a thumbnail isn't the most obvious method to begin with. For the majority of users having the ability to auto select on expanding a stack (i.e. double click stack badge or shift+click the badge) then applying the keyword via the panel is a much safer approach.

  • Applying Keywords To A Stack

    I've only been using Aperture for a few hours now so apologies if this is a really stupid question but;
How can you apply a keyword(s) to a stack?
Whenever I do it, it only applies itself to the first photo in the stack and yes I have disabled the Toggle Primary option (keystroke S). The only way I've found of applying the same keyword to all the photos in a stack is by opening the stack, selecting all the photos in that stack and then dragging the keyword onto one of them.
Purely to save time I'd like not to have to open a stack but just to select in the Browser and then any keyword I drag onto the stack is applied to all the photos in that stack.

Personally, I always use the "batch change" menu option when I want to change or add metadata to a bunch of images.

  • LR2 - LR3 counting keywords has changed - why?

From LR2 to LR3 the method of counting keywords with child keywords (parent keywords) has changed - why?
In keyword hierarchies, some keyword levels a used just to categorize keywords, but they would be never used. In Lightroom 2 the keyword count for parent keywords, showed the numbers of images to which this keyword or any of its childs was applied. This way, one could easily see, how many images were assigned within a keyword hierarchy. In LR 3 the count number only represents how many images are assigned with that particular keyword, child assignments are no longer counted. While there are arguments for the usefulness of each counting methods, I wonder, why that has been changed, and why the older method of LR 2 has been omitted. It could have been left in as an option without too much effort. In general, it is bad practice to change program behaviour in such places, because you don't know, if people use the former method in their workflows and actually prefer this.
    LR 2:
Flowers          79  If "Flowers" would be applied to 2 images, "81" would be shown here)
          Daisy       12
          Rose        45
          Tulip         22
    LR 3:
Flowers             0  (actually nothing is displayed), If "Flowers" would be applied to 2 images, "2" would be shown here)
         Daisy         12
         Rose          45
         Tulip           22
In general, I find the new behaviour inconsistent, because if I click on the arrow to the right of a parent keyword, the images are filtered to the parent keyword and all of its child keywords, whereas the counting does not include the childs.
In genral I would prefer that Lightroom would include both numbers:
    LR 4:
Flowers         0/79  (if "Flowers" is applied to 2 images, "2/81" would be shown here)
       Daisy         12
       Rose          45
       Tulip           22
    Kind regards

Thank you for the explanation. However, instead of taking the older method out, which at least some (perhaps many?) find useful, the engineers could have made this configurable. I don't know, why they take always the easier route. Making things configurable isn't that difficult. Let the user decide, if his equipment is well enough suited to digest the perfomance penalty caused by the LR 2 method. I can't really understand the complaints about the LR 2 method. For what do we actually have keyword hierarchies? The LR 2 way of counting was one of the nicest features of Lightroom's DAM capabilities. If such a thing confuses some and others not, the way to do it is to make it configurable. Best practice, I would say.
My friend is using keyword hierarchies heavily for organizing images (shouldn't be anything wrong with that). The LR 2 method of counting keywords was pretty crucial for her workflow. I suggest bringing the feature back and let the customer decide to use it or not.
Not very good practice, the product management is showing here.

I found an old Applie ID on a computer I use infreqently with an old IPod.  I do not have the password for this AppleID.  When I use the procedure to reset the password, I cannot receive the email as my email address has changed from the original used with the Apple ID.  How can I get the reset information sent to my current email addres so I can establish a new passwod for this Applie ID?

FR Tecmobility is wrong, sure he means well but what he suggests will not work - signing out of iTunes Store and back in will have no effect on iCloud. Try the steps at iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud
You may need to contact apple tech support if none of the password change methods work for you. Ask for Account Security. They will need to verify identity, to ensure you are who you claim to be. If that goes well, they can send a password rest e-mail to any e-mail you desigate, so make sure it is one you can access.  Then reset the password. Then you can delete the iCloud account (needs the password to turn off find My Phone/Activation lock)
keep data on phone, then sign in with your desired apple ID. Good luck. hope you get this sorted out.

  • Bridge CC crashes when I am applying keywords

    Hello everyone!
I'm using applied keywords in Bridge to standardize our metadata and it seems that at least once every hour or so I'll be in the middle of adding keywords and Bridge CC will "unexpectedly crash" so none of my changes get saved.
Has anyone else experienced this? I wondering if it's something I'm not doing correctly.
    Thank you so much!
    Emily

Photoshop & Bridge CC (downloaded last week)
That is not the same as having the latest versions, you also ned to check for updates to be sure using the latest versions
RAW files seem ok, the problem is happening with JPEG pics
Double check if you have read and write permissions for the files, folders and disks, but first check if you can add other metadata like keywords etc to the problem files. If not it seems definitively a read write permission issue.
And also check if you have used the correct file naming with no strange characters, only one dot at the end of the filename and the correct extension (preferable .jpg).

  • Collapse stack not working

I just upgraded to Lightroom 3 and the collapse stack function is not working...it doesn't collapse a stack of photos, it just stays expanded no matter what I do, any suggestions please?? I see the 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 number in top left corner and when I click on that it starts to collapse the photos but then just goes straight back to expanded, it's driving me nuts! Help

Just being able to hide stuff that isn't top-of-stack has been enough for me so far.
I suppose it depends on how you do stuff, what might be enough.
Wanting HDR sequences regardless of which photo matched the search criteria is something I haven't given much thought to.
Maybe you could define something in your hdr shots that binds them together, maybe a unifying element in the filename, or metadata... then use that in the search criteria as well.
In my workflow, I would generally only want to see the top of an HDR stack in a collection, since that would be the finished photo. If I wanted to work on the sequence I could always go to the folder containing the whole set...
I'm sure if Adobe put their minds to it for a minute, they could come up with a solution better than the way things are now, which so far has been to completely ignore the issue.
PS - As I said, I don't have much of a problem with it anymore, since I keep StackPosition metadata for all my photos. But I feel for people who dont... and, a native solution would be better anyway...
Perhaps to cover your desires, a couple options:
"match bottom feeders as well" -- so collection criteria are not applied to top-of-stack photos only.
"bring everything in stack regardless of position" -- so all members of a stack are in the collection regardless of which item matches.
This would be overkill for me so far, but maybe one day I would be grateful...
    Enough said,
    Rob

  • Has there been updates to transcription support in a PS 4 Windows Update? Behaviour has changed...

I utilise PowerShell transcription support heavily in my PS scripts. Essentially I utilise transcription as a replacement to having a logging framework - all logging is performed via Write-Host, Write-Verbose and Write-Debug calls, and then logged to file
via a call to Start-Transcript at the start of script execution.
Transcription support in PS versions prior to 5 is limited in that it is hard coded in the Start-Transcript and Stop-Transcript commands to throw an exception if the host is not an instance of Microsoft.PowerShell.ConsoleHost. Also, to make it even more difficult,
Stop-Transcript throws an error when there is no active transcript; but there is no way to detect if there is. Therefore, I use reflection to get the ConsoleHost.IsTranscribing internal property value to determine whether to call Stop-Transcript at script
completion. This logic has worked fine for PS versions 2, 3 and 4. However, more recently I believe a Windows Update patch has changed the way the transcription works. It appears that PS 4 now supports transcription functionality that I thought was PS 5 (CTP)
specific - nested transcription sessions (i.e. you can now continually call Start-Transcript and it will create more sessions, rather than throw an error when there is an active session).  Also, the internals of how transcription is managed must have
changed because the IsTranscribing property no longer returns the correct value. I am unsure if there is now a "supported" way of checking for this rather than hacking into the internals of the host. This change results in my script creating multiple
transcription sessions as it does not know there is already transcription started.
Does anyone know if there has been any updates in PS 4 for the transcription functionality? Or any other details regarding this?
    Cheers

    Hi Anna,
Thanks for the response. Can you make sense of the info below? Transcription appears completely broken
on the build on my machine, which I have not installed any PS CTP on. I am worried a hotfix such as KB3000850 which has also caused me the grief here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/eaa4a532-5ff5-4a2f-89ce-7e72c71a8fb7/powershell-30-stuck-in-infinite-loop-resolving-members-internally-is-this-a-ps-bug?forum=winserverpowershell
    https://connect.microsoft.com/PowerShell/feedback/details/1045858/add-member-cmdlet-invokes-scriptproperty-members-when-adding-new-member
...has been installed via Windows Update. I am running Windows 8.1 and all latest updates applied as at 23 April.
My $PSVersionTable is the same as yours except for "BuildVersion" 6.3.9600.17400. I can also call Start-Transcript continually and it will keep creating sessions. Once I do this all sessions receive data once I
enter more commands in the console (i.e. each file is getting the same data). This is the behaviour I would have expected in PS 5 with the transcription updates, but not in a PS 4 update.
NOTE: In addition to this, the data being fed into the transcription file is NOT the same format as the standard transcription format. The transcription file contains different data and
is not a true reflection of what is on the console). The following data is being output to the transcription file after each command:
    CurrentMatchIndex              ReplacementIndex             ReplacementLength CompletionMatches
                               -1
    0                             8 {System.Management.Automat...
In addition to that (I haven't had a chance to look into this in detail), but the log files that are being generated by the PS module I have written are now containing a heap of contents that appear to be generated each time an exception
is thrown (even if it has been caught?)
    "PS>TerminatingError(Invoke-Expression): xxxxxxx" and
"PS>TerminatingError(): "The pipeline has been stopped.""
messages, but no host, verbose, or debug data (i.e. terminating error details only, which I have never seen in the transcript file before). That's correct -
the transcription file doesn't contain any of the data it used to, just error info that did not used to be in there!!
Please assist urgently, this is a critical issue for me.

  • HT1918 I can't seem to update my apps or make any purchases on from my account. Nothing has changed with my credit card information and for some reason the iTunes Store tells me my information is incorrect. What do I do?

I can't seem to update my apps or make any purchases on from my account. Nothing has changed with my credit card information and for some reason the iTunes Store tells me my information is incorrect. What do I do?

    Yes, it's frustrating.
I don't have my iPod with me but, as I recall, the change is done in Settings/Store.  That change will apply to NEW purchases.  However, be aware that all purchases are permanently associated with the Apple ID that was originally used.  Generally, it's only a problem when you need to update an app.  IF you do your updating from iTunes and your logged in to the "wrong" ID, you'll need to log out and back in again.  It's easier from the iPod as you do not need to log out/in but you do need to know the password.
Unfortunately, you can not merge IDs nor can you transfer purchases from one ID to another.  Go here to find out exactly what you have.  I have the same problem so I deliberately made both passwords identical to make things slightly easier for me.

  • I bought a new laptop with Windows 7. My computer name in Windows has changed, and now, my Ipad can't find Itunes

I bought a new laptop with Windows 7. My computer name in Windows has changed, and now, my Ipad can't find Itunes, and Itunes can't find my Ipad. [email protected]

Ok, if reinstalling iTunes as suggested above does not resolve the issue of iTunes recognising the iPad then try this -
Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
Thirdly, make sure your lead /connections are no faulty.
Fourthly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
As for making your new laptop your 'home computer' follow these instructions -
    1. Without connecting your iPad to your computer -
    A) Install iTunes / make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed.
    B) Go to the Store tab and click on "Authorise This Computer".
    C) Go to Edit, click on Preferences [iTunes and Preferences on Macs] and click on Devices. Put a check mark in the box next to "Prevent  iPods/iPhones/iPads from syncing automatically". Click OK and close iTunes.
    2.  Connect your iPad to your computer -
    A) Start iTunes (it will not start automatically because of the action at 1(C) above).
    B) Right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select "Transfer purchases".
    C) When the transfer has completed, right click on your iPad again and select "Backup".
    D) When the backup has completed, left click on your iPad, click on the Apps tab, and put a check mark in the box next to "Sync Apps", and then click on "Apply" (bottom right).
    E) Unless you want to always do a manual sync (as I do), go back to Edit, Preferences [iTunes and Preferences on Macs] and uncheck the box next to "Prevent your iPod.....".
    F) Finally, on your iPad, check that everything is syncing properly. If not, go back to iTunes and check all settings.
NB You should not lose any apps. However, any 'purchased' missing apps can be downloaded again FOC. As with updates, this must be done with the Apple ID under which they were originally 'purchased'.
Also see here as to moving your music to your new computer -

  • Editing in External Editor Has Changed

Editing with an external editor in iPhoto has changed. If, when using an external editor like Photoshop. Pixelmator or Acorn, a second copy is immediately created in the Versions folder (formally Modified) of iPhoto and is used for the editing ending up with two copies of the photo, the original and edited.
If the edit creates layers, like adding text with PS or Pixelmator, the file must be flattened before saving. Otherwise the Save To navigation window appears with the Master/Originals folder as the default location. If saved there the copy that was first created remains just that, a copy of the original and the layered file is lost to iPhoto in the Masters folder. Bottom line, flatten the image before saving if the editor presents a Save to window.
Additional edits by the external editor do not create another copy but are applied to the first edited copy. Therefore, any edit with an external will result in the two copies being displayed in iPhoto side by side.
Previously, flattening the image and saving as a jpg would have the modified version replace the original as the displayed version. just like when edited by iPhoto. No longer true with iPhoto 11.
    OT

OK, this whole thing is a bug I believe. Listen to this. I open a photo in CS5 to edit it. iPhoto makes a copy. I finish editing my photo in CS5, then save. The changes take place in iPhoto like you'd expect. Now there are the two photos in iPhoto. The edited and the unedited. Now I select the edited photo and choose "Revert to Original" from iPhoto menu, and iPhoto warns me like always, "are you sure you want to revert?" I click "Revert" and nothing. It doesn't revert to the original photo.
So if I were to delete the "extra" photo, I've now got no backup of that photo! I think iPhoto is just "showing" us the original backups on accident now. If this is how they intend it to be now, then they sure better warn people before everyone starts deleting their backup copies of their photos. This is crazy.

  • Disk Utility: Does it work or not? What has changed?

    Hello:
After upgrading just about five hours ago to Leopard, and applying all upgrades and updates as well as security updates, I have noticed that Disk Utility is not th same snappy piece of software it used to be.
In Tiger, I used to run Disk Utility every time there was an upgrade or update and it took usually from less than a minute to sometimes a couple minutes. This time I get the bar immediately stating a 'less than a minute' operation but it results in something about 10 or more minutes.
It would be great if anyone from Apple or even someone with Technical information would post why is this, and what has changed with Disk Utility and how can we make sure that new permissions are fixed when the new Disk Utility can't do so. Like in my case I receive the following after the long wait.

Note that your system uses syslog. All of kdm's internally generated messages
(i.e., not from libraries and external programs/scripts it uses) go to the
daemon.* syslog facility; check your syslog configuration to find out to which
file(s) it is logged. PAM logs messages related to authentication to authpriv.*.

  • On Drilling down between ADF Pages we get Row currency has changed error

We have developed an Application using JDeveloper 10.1.3.2, you can login to
    http://ap6002fems.us.oracle.com:7778/SetupTaskList
    login with sso,
On Top Right corner you have a global link 'Select', click it and select Business Process Home
Click Detailed Business Process Link for 'Field Service and Depot Repair' Business Process and in Detailed Business Process Page, change Fusion Release to All, and select Activities Link for any Detailed Business Process and you will get
    Error:
JBO-35007: Row currency has changed since the user interface was rendered. The expected row key was oracle.jbo.Key0
I tried checking the logs but log doesnt show up anything.
I also tried changing Enable Token Validation to false in Page Definition and this Row Currency Issue doesnt come up, but it doesnt navigate to the next page, it reloads the existing Detailed Business Process Page.

    Hi,
I would be surprised if anyone outside of Oracle can run your sample application because its behind the firewall.
The error message is caused by changes that are applied to the underlying iterator without refreshing the UI in which case the two are out of synch. What helps is to PPR the UI (e.g the table as a result of a command action)

  • Em does not start after servername has changed

Is there a possibility to get the datanbase running in an ordinary way after the servername has changed after the installation of the database?
    System:
    Windows Server 2003R2
    Oracle 10g R2
I have changed tnsnames.ora and listener.ora, so the client connection runs well.
But enterprise manager does not start:
If I want to start "Database control" there is the old servername in the http-Link:
    http://oldservername:1158/em
If I replace the old name with "localhost" or the new name I get also an errormessage that the site cant be found.
In services the OracleDBConsole cant be started.
with ">emctl start dbconsole" I get the error message ORACLE_SID is not defined.
Defining it does not change the behaviour.
Do I have to reinstall the database?
    Thanks
    Roswitha

    Purpose
    Scope and Application
How To Drop, Create And Recreate DB Control In A 10g Database
    DB Control options:
    A. Delete DB Control Objects:
    B. Create DB Control Objects
    C. Recreate/ReConfig DB Control
    Applies to:
Enterprise Manager Grid Control - Version: 10.1 to 10.2
Information in this document applies to any platform.
    DBConsole
    Purpose
This article provides detailed instructions on how to 1) create, 2) drop and 3)recreate the repository and configuration files for the DB Control application used to manage a single 10g Database.
    Scope and Application
The steps in this article are written for a DBA or System Administrator who needs to create, drop or reconfigure the DB Control Application.
The format of the document will include steps for both 10.1 and 10.2 EMCA because the commands changed between the two releases.
How To Drop, Create And Recreate DB Control In A 10g Database
    DB Control options:
    A. Delete DB Control Objects:
Option 1. Delete DB Control Configuration Files using EMCA scripts
Option 2. Delete DB Control Configuration Files Manually:
Option 3. Delete DB Control Repository Objects using RepManager
Option 4. Delete DB Control Repository Objects Manually
Option 5. Delete DB Control Configuration Files and Repository Objects using EMCA
Option 1. Delete DB Control Configuration Files using EMCA scripts:
For DB Control 10.1.x, run the command: <ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emca -x <sid>For DB Control 10.2.x, run the command: <ORACLE_HOME>bin/emca -deconfig dbcontrol db
Option 2. Delete DB Control Configuration Files Manually:
Remove the following directories from your filesystem:
    <ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>
    <ORACLE_HOME>/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_<hostname>_<sid>
    NOTE:
On Windows you also need to delete the DB Console service:
    - run regedit
    - navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services
    - locate the OracleDBConsole<sid> entry and delete it
Alternatively on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 you can run the following from the command line:
    'sc delete <service_name>'
    - where <service_name> is the DB Control service name (typically: OracleDBConsole<sid>)
Also available from Microsoft is the delsrv.exe command. (Free download from Microsoft)
Option 3. Delete DB Control Repository using RepManager:
This option is not as complete as the other options. You may find that dropping the repository using the commandline options is a better solution. Also note, RepManager is not used to create a DB Control Repository.
    In both 10g R1 and R2 run: <ORACLE_HOME>/sysman/admin/emdrep/bin/RepManager <hostname> <listener_port> <sid> -action drop
Option 4. Delete DB Control Repository Objects Manually
Logon SQLPLUS as user SYS or SYSTEM, and drop the sysman account and management objects:SQL> SHUTDOWN
    IMMEDIATE;SQL> STARTUP RESTRICT;SQL> EXEC sysman.emd_maintenance.remove_em_dbms_jobs;SQL> EXEC sysman.setEMUserContext('',5);SQL>
    REVOKE dba FROM sysman;SQL> DECLARECURSOR c1 ISSELECT owner, synonym_name nameFROM dba_synonymsWHERE table_owner
    = 'SYSMAN';BEGINFOR r1 IN c1 LOOPIF r1.owner = 'PUBLIC' THENEXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'DROP PUBLIC SYNONYM '||r1.name;ELSEEXECUTE
    IMMEDIATE 'DROP SYNONYM '||r1.owner||'.'||r1.name;END IF;END LOOP;END;/SQL> DROP USER mgmt_view CASCADE;SQL> DROP ROLE mgmt_user;SQL> DROP USER sysman CASCADE;SQL> ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
Note: The above will completely delete the DB Control repository from the database; under certain circumstances (e.g. you want to recreate the repository later on) the following statements may be sufficient to remove the repository:
Logon SQLPLUS as user SYS or SYSTEM, and drop the sysman account and management objects:SQL> drop user
    sysman cascade;SQL> drop role MGMT_USER;SQL> drop user MGMT_VIEW cascade;SQL> drop public synonym MGMT_TARGET_BLACKOUTS;SQL> drop public synonym SETEMVIEWUSERCONTEXT;
Option 5. Delete DB Control Configuration Files and Repository Objects using EMCA
For DB Control 10.1.x, dropping both the configuration files and the repository objects is a two step process. Run the following two commands:
    <ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emca -x <sid><ORACLE_HOME>/sysman/admin/emdrep/bin/RepManager <hostname> <listener_port> <sid> -action drop
For DB Control 10.2.x, both configuration files and repository objects can be deleted with a single command. Run the command:
<ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
    B. Create DB Control Objects
Option 1. Create the DB Control Configuration Files
Option 2. Create the DB Control Repository Objects and Configuration Files
Option 1. Create the DB Control Configuration Files
To create only the DB Control configuration files, skipping the repository creation (this would be done for instance if you dropped only the files and left the repository in place):
For DB Control 10.1.x, run the command: <ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emca -rFor DB Control 10.2.x, run the command: <ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emca -config dbcontrol db
Option 2. Create the DB Control Repository Objects and Configuration Files
For DB Control 10.1.x, run the command: <ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emcaFor DB Control 10.2.x, run the command: <ORACLE_HOME>bin/emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create
    C. Recreate/ReConfig DB Control
Option 1. Recreate the DB Control Configuration Files only (leave Repository intact)
Option 2. Recreate the DB Control Configuration Files and Repository
In 10.2, the EMCA commands can be used to reconfigure the existing installs without removing them first.
Option 1. Recreate the DB Control Configuration Files only (leave Repository intact):
For DB Control 10.2.x, run the command:
    <ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emca -config dbcontrol db
Option 2. Recreate the DB Control Configuration Files and Repository
For DB Control 10.2.x, run the command:
<ORACLE_HOME>/bin/emca -config dbcontrol db -repos recreate
For additional information on EMCA commandline options, please see the Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Advanced Configuration Guide or see Note 330130.1 Overview Of The EMCA Commands Available for DB Control 10.2
