Applying patches without pre-requisites
Hi,
What effect does it have when applying patches without pre-requisites.
As in R12 no pre-requisites are checked if we miss any pre-requisite what effect will it have in the system?
Hi,
It is a must you apply the pre-requisite patches.
we miss any pre-requisite what effect will it have in the system?
Pre-requisite patches are delivered in some cases in order to rectify bugs that have been a consequent of the patch that is being applied. Or in some cases, pre-requisite patches are applied as they act as a mandatory patches in certain cases.
There are probabilities that the patches may not fix your respective issues if the pre-requisite patches are missed. It is always recommended a MUST, you refer the README and apply the pre-requisite patches.
HTH!,
Thanks &
Best Regards,

Hi, I install oracle 11.2.0.1 software without db to my os.
Before creating a new database I want to apply the patches which this version needs.
Is this possible or should I create db and apply the patches later? In patch document,
it mentions the steps as I already have db. Thanks.efendicans wrote:
I won't move the db. I will create a new one and import a schema with datapump from another db(10.2.0.2). As I understand from your replies I can patch binaries, create db and then import schema(without applying the db steps in patch document). Am I right? Thank you.Again, it depends on how you create the database. Go through the dbca wizard and select "custom" instead of one of the pre-defined databases. When you choose "custom", the script that gets generated to create your database starts with nothing and does a CREATE DATABASE. So your database is created from the git-go with the patched system. If you chose one of the pre-defined database types, it gets created by restoring a 'seed' database that was most likely created at the base level, so would need to have the database portion of any patches applied.
I never use the pre-defined databases, for this very reason.
(PS it would be very educational for you to go through dbca twice, once for a pre-defined db, and once for a custom. At the end, simply select 'create scripts' WITHOUT actually creating the database. Then study the scripts.) -
Apply patch without CSI? (testing)
Hi,
I'm a recent(-ish...last July) grad and currently going through Oracle docs/ppts & trying things out to try and make up for some of that "2 years work experience" requirement that all junior DBA roles seem to have. I'm currently going through the 2 day guide & reached the end (patching) but metalink asks me for a CSI =( alternatives or do I just have to upgrade from 10.2 to 11 instead?
Mike. I'm currently going through the 2 day guide & reached the end (patching) but metalink asks me for a CSI =( alternatives or do I just have to upgrade from 10.2 to 11 instead?I didnt get exactly what you are saying
does It mean, while installation /upgrade its asked CSI ?
Of course if you do not have you can ignore(you wont be having support) later also you can configure by using (OCM - oracle configuration manager) -
Getting pre-requisite while applying patch.
Hi All,
I am in the process of applying a patch 9114911.
While applying a patch i got a below error.
Missing prerequisite codelevel for entity 'atg_pf'.
This patch requires the following codelevel or higher: 'R12.ATG_PF.B.3'.
The current on-site codelevel for the entity 'atg_pf' is : 'R12.ATG_PF.B.1'.
After that i apply a patch 9239089, still i am getting an error.
When i searched on metalink, I found the Patch 8919491.
Is Patch 8919491, the correct pre-requisute patch.
Your assistance in this regards is much appreciated.

You need to apply Patch 8919491 in addition to Patch 9239089.

Query on AD utility "admrgpch". Will it take care of pre-requisite patches?
Hi
The question is for a Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 release.
I want to know if we use "admrgpch" to merge all the patches, including the pre-requisite patches also into a single patch will it take care that a pre-requisite patch is installed FIRST and then it's relating patch??
Any help is highly appreciated.
Many Thanks
RamanaUnless you are intimately familiar with the contents of your patches (files and file versions) and the file versions of the patched objects on your filesystem, you will likely not be able to determine if a failure in the patch application was due to a prerequisite patch contribution or part of the main patch you are applying because you apply one unified driver of all merged patches.
If you read and understand the contents of all the patch readmes you are applying, you have better than a 98% chance of the merged patch applying successfully. The larger and newer the patch is, the more likely there will be some missed prerequisite in the patch documentation.
I prefer to patch interactively passing all options and defaultsfile.txt entries on the command line because I am paranoid, and do not like to wait for the patch to restart upon a failure, when I can safely ignore or skip the failure. If you have a failure, copy and paste the failed object name into Metalink and search for knowledge base notes regarding that file. It is likely a known issue with a clear workaround. You should do the same research for newly created invalid objects after patching. Usually you will have failure uploading or compiling a file due to some code mismatch on your filesystem, and looking up the object and applying a newer version of the failed object usually allows it to load correctly, or compile in the case of a form or form library. -
Query Forms patch 14614795 readme pre-requisites
Hi All,
Customer is getting FRM-92095: Oracle JInitiator version too low. Please install version 1.1.8.2" while using JRE1.7.0.21 .
After checking steve chan blog , https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/resolving_jinitiator_version_too_low came to know , patch 14614795 would solve this issue .
I am not interested in applying the bundle patch right now , so if i want to go with this (14614795 ) , i can see in 14614795 readme the below content as pre-requisite .
NOTE:
# 1. Please ensure the patch for bug 9593176 is already applied before you proceed.
# 2. Upgrade to the latest OUI 10.1 by downloading and installing the same from bug 6640838
Now we are on 12.1.3 + 11.1.0.7(db) , do we really need to apply 9593176 ? if i we need to apply this then probably going for the bundle patch is very much preferable is it (14825718) ?
Regards,
Naga.Yes you need to apply the pre-req patches listed, these are mandatory requirements
Per note 393931.1 "Deploying Sun JRE (Native Plug-in) for Windows Clients in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12" the requirement is listed as:
"Oracle forms 10.1.2.3 or higher with Patch 14614795 or later (See Document 437878.1 titled, 'Upgrading OracleAS 10g Forms and Reports in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12' for the latest available forms patches)"
So you can apply the patches listed in Note 437878.1 as an alternative, which will also get you onto all the latest code, so this may be the prefered option for you
Hope this helps

Apply patch during oracle upgrade
Hi Folks
I`m upgrading 10G databases to 11.2.0.3. Right now we have installed the 11.2.0.3 software on the severs. We have downloaded PSU, which converts present 11.2.0.3.0 to 11.2.0.3.3.
Here`s my question.
The pre-requisite to apply this patch is that opatch version of db has to be in 11.2.0.3.
I checked my opatch version in some 10G databases, it is with 10.2.0.4.0. How can I apply new patch as my patch version is only 10.2.0.4.0.
New environment variables will be set to 11.2.0.3 during applying patch. But how to convert 10.2.0.4.0 patch to 11.2.0.3.0, so that I can apply my new patch. You will need to install the latest version of OPatch on the 11.2.0.3 OH, then apply the PSU - see MOS Doc referenced above

Incorrect user and admin accounts showing when trying to apply patches
Hi folks,
I have completed a (rather painful) install of the "main" component of BPC version 7 on my clients' server, with a domain user as the System Admin, and local accounts for the Admin and User accounts.
This is a single-server install.
Now, when I try to apply the two patches to make it "officially" SP4, on the page that asks for my passwords it has filled in my IDs incorrectly.
So, my System Admin ID is showing correct as <domain>\sysadmin, but my admin and user are also showing as <domain>\bpcadmin and <domain>\bpcuser, rather than as they SHOULD appear: <local machine name>\bpcadmin and <local machine name>\bpcuser.
I have no idea what is happening, but I'm guessing it is down to some COM+ object that hasn't updated properly for some reason.
I also had a problem with the ApShell application not being created, so I had to do this manually, which I know isn't normal. Also, there has been no database created for ApShell either.
I checked all the pre-requisites and made sure all user accounts were ready to use, etc, but is there anything anyone can think of that might be causing these problems?
Thanks very much.
Best wishes,
Jason
Update: I thought that it woud be a good idea to uninstall BPC and start again, rather than amending components and databases manually, which shouldn't be necessary. Any tips on cleaning up the resulting mess would be most welcome! Thanks Tony!
I reinstalled the application with the Sys Admin right the way through, and it accepts it, but I get another error:
[click here for picture|http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/JFFxet7nUJcoeHY9hAQOcQ?feat=directlink]
This is weird as the database error shows C:\... when actually the default database is on D:\Data...
If I click on OK, I then get this much more complicated message:
[click here for picture|http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/uM0LmGaQgJx4VseRqwXnsQ?feat=directlink]
I'm not even going try and interpret that one - but some searches on the internet haven't been very useful.
Any ideas? I'm almost at the point of getting the client to uninstall and reinstall SQL Server again, as I've been having this problem for at least 24 hours. But I'm keen to avoid this if possible, so any help wuld be appreciated.
Cheers,
Jason -
Pre requisites for DBI family packG (7.3)
Dear Hussein,
In the readme file of patch 5404886 (DBI Family pack G (7.3)). In section 5: STEP 4 it says
"Apply additional pre requisite patches for daily business intelligence for financials".
Are the patches must.
O/S AIX 5.3
11.5.10.2
9.2.0.8
If i apply any family pack, there is a long list of pre-requisite patches. How can we know if we need to apply them or not.
Thank you
Regards
Taher

See the following from "Oracle® Applications Maintenance Utilities Release 11i (11.5.10.2)", Page 4-11 Compile flexfield data.
Compiles flexfield data structures in Oracle Application Object Library (FND) tables. Choose this task after you apply a patch that changes the setup of flexfields. Patches usually indicate when you should perform this step.
Flexfields automatically compile data when you use them for the first time, so running this task is not required. However, compiling flexfield data at a specific time (for example, when system use is low), rather than automatically at first use, can alleviate potential runtime performance issues.

Ckeck For File: Checking RSEINBQUEUE Pre-Requisites
More of a BASIS question really, but I'd like to know what options I have for checking certain pre-requisites before processing XI sourced files using program RSEINBQUEUE?
This background job is currently scheduled for 18:50 each night, but I really want to check either files at the Windows directory level or preferably the existence of the XI processing having taken place.
Is this possible?
Thanks, Robert.Taher,

Pre-requisites for running oracle forms 11G
What are the pre-requisits for running Oracle forms 11G?
Ok - where to begin?
From the beginning....
<blockquote>1. There are prerequisites for nearly every Oracle product. If you have not read the Installation Guide and Systems Requirements Guide you likely are missing something. Docs are [URL http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/index.htm]here
2. If you followed the installation guide and completed the installation without error, the basic product works out of the box without any configuration changes. Don't start tweaking unless you understand the change.
3. In order to use an application server of any kind, you need to ensure it is running.
4. If you have chosen the "Development" installation type (applies to 11.1.2 only) then you will not have an HTTP Server and it is not needed. Your listener will be the WLS managed server (usually port 9001).
5. If you have chosed the "Deployment" installation type then you will have HTTP Server. You can access your Forms application via the HTTP Server Listen port (usually 8888) or the WLS_FORMS port.</blockquote>
To the issue that started this post... "+*Page cannot be displayed*+"
This error is either caused as a result of there being no listener running, specifically the HTTP Server or the wrong URL was entered in the browser, or the hostname used in the URL does not map to the correct machine where the listener is running. If you have installed and are testing on your local machine and that machine does not have a static IP address and/or a DNS registered name then fixing these issues would be a few of those "prerequisite" steps I mentioned. This is documented here:
http://docs.oracle.com/html/E18558_01/fusion_requirements.htm#BABFHBID
The above configuration needs to be completed before the installation is started.
To the next issue or change in error message: "+*Failure of server APACHE bridge: No backend server available for connection...*+"
This means that HTTP Server (specifically mod_wls) is unable to contact WLS_FORMS. This could be because WLS_FORMS is not running or because of those prereq steps noted above or a variety of other things related to not following the instructions. Refer to MyOracleSupport Note 1304095.1 for more details about this error.
Finally, as for the need for a JRE, you can do this either before you attempt to run a form or allow the autoinstall feature of the browser perform the installation. However, as Craig mentioned, you would be better off installing the latest version which is 1.6.0_33. You can change your configuration to automatically do this, but if you are new to FusionMiddleware and/or Forms doing the JRE installation manually at this point is probably a good idea. I also recommend starting with Internet Explorer because likely some config changes will be necessary to get it working.
As I mentioned, for the most part, the installation should work out of the box without changes. I would recommend getting the default form (test.fmx) running before attempting to make too many changes.
(If you chose the Deployment install type) http://youMachine:8888/forms/frmservlet?form=test
(If you chose the Development install type) http://youMachine:9001/forms/frmservlet?form=test

Can someone help kick off the OUI installer. Our customer if getting impatient in not getting it to run. Any help appreicaited
ThanksThanks for the replies...
FYI.
I have cloned an Oracle 9i database on a DR test server.
Now I am installing Oracle Application server 10g Forms and Reports (9.0.4) on Solaris 5.10
This is using a Oracle CD which is for Solaris 5.9 but using twp patches supplied by oracle to run the CD from. So it is able to run on Solaris 5.10. It has been done before but by some past DBA some 5 years ago. This is the first time I am attempting this being a new employee here.
I have implemented these suggestions.
Especially the fact that it was looking for a gunzip utuility which it couldn't find. To make it easirer Ij ust copied the gunzip utility to the place it was looking for, and renamed it unzip. As it was loooking for unzip
This worked and passed through.
Created the temp temp directory as welll so it would not have issues in not writting to the tmp directory.
The error I'm getting is below
bash-3.2$ pwd
/data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/ForSolaris5_10/4494701
bash-3.2$ /data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/SOLARIS/RUNINSTA -paramFile /data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/ForSolaris5_10/4494701/ORAPARAM.INI

I am running humingbird Exceed, and have also set the DISPLAY to my screen.
FYI I am running this from home so the 256 collours error would probably be ok if I did it from work (as I will on Monday)
However I would prbably still get the java error. Should this not be resolved using Exceed though? -

Workaround tried:-
1. As per the TechNet MS site changing the time zone to Pacific/London time zone. Tried it but issue persists.
2. Tried to run the setup.exe using domain account and local admin account.
Any help appreciated much..UAC was turned off and installation was tried using local admin account. The error log suggested it was failing to create a firewall exception rule for 8090/UDP port. Windows Firewall service was enabled. SPF got installed successfully.
Thanks Darryl for helping us break the deadlock :) -
Is it possible to do DST patch without reboot on Solaris 9
Hi - I have some machines that are difficult to schedule downtime on, and am
wondering if I can manually stop/start processes that are affected by
113225-08 and 112874-33 patches so that I could apply them without rebooting.
Is this possible?
Thanks very much for the help,
JudyThe reboot ensures that all processes are restarted.
Any processes that are started before the timezone patch is installed will not see the update.
So if nothing else, I'd want to restart cron...
