Applying Path on Oracle 9i (9.2.0.4.0)

Hi all,
I am planning to apply a upgrade path on my current Oracle Database server.
I have not done this activity in past so I need to know some things before I start off.
Issue 1
Does the patch applucation is self-explanatory? i.e. Does it have the GUI
Issue 2
Does the patch execute in AUTOMATED format?
Is there any information guide available which explains the steps to perform the patch application activity?
Thanks in advance
Himanshu

if possible go for either 9205 or 9206. Its very simple to appaly a patch. You can also read the document which is provided in the patch CD, its step-by-step.

  • Data Path Change Oracle.

I want to add Hard Disk to existing system and  change the path of existing Data both SAPDATA1 and Oraarch for additional Space
    System is ECC5 IDES/Oracle 9.2/Win2003.
    Present path D:\Oracle\SID\oraarch
                        E:\Oracle\SID\SAPDATA1
    New Path  E:\Oracle\SID\Oraarch
                    F:\Oracle\SID\SAPDATA1
Someone can help me with exact procedure.
    Thanks,

    Ho Manssor,
If the number of datas too many and you think moving one-by-one using brtools can take alot of time. There is still one sulution to use, but this is litter risky.
    Here the step.
    1. SQL > alter database backup controlfile to tracefile; (dont type SQL >, its sqlplus command prompt)
    2. Goto /oracle/<SID>/trace/usertrace (see the newest trace file)
    3. Copy the file to some where
    4. Open the file and get only the part your want (RESET or NOT RESET) choice only one.
    5. Change all the path E:\Oracle\SID\SAPDATA1 to F:\Oracle\SID\SAPDATA1,
you can use find & replace.
    6. rename the file to control.sql
    6. Copy all the file to the new path (dont move, later delete it after every run ok)
    7. Apply the new control file by running the control.sql from sqlplus
    8. SQL > @control.sql (dont type SQL >, its SQL command prompt)
    9. If every thinkg ok than you finish move the path.
But once again this is step is a bit riskly as you playing with the oracle control file, and this can cause your database can't startup due to the error in control file.
Please make sure you backup the control file and your database before do any thing.

  • Hi, I don't know how to find a specific security patch to apply to my Oracle database version to fix a vulnerability

Hi, I don't know how to find a specific security patch to apply to my Oracle database version 11.2.0.2.0 (on windows server 2003 32 bits) to fix the following vulnerability:
    Risk: High
    Application: oracle_tnslsnr
    Port: 1521
    Protocol: tcp
    Synopsis:
It is possible to register with a remote Oracle TNS listener.
    Description:
The remote Oracle TNS listener allows service registration from a remote host. An attacker can exploit this issue to divert data from a
legitimate database server or client to an attacker-specified system.
Successful exploits will allow the attacker to manipulate database instances, potentially facilitating man-in-the-middle, sessionhijacking,
or denial of service attacks on a legitimate database server.
    Solution:
Apply the work-around in Oracle's advisory.
    Thank you for your help

  • Path to Oracle 12c Database OCP

Any path to Oracle 12c Database OCP from 11g OCA? If so, which exam number?
    Thanks!

    Hemant K Chitale wrote:
Even if you were to go from 11g OCA to 11g OCP, you need to provide Oracle evidence of attending at least 1 of the qualifying Instructor-Led Training classes.
    Hemant K Chitale
Reading the original posters answer i read the likely senario was that he already had 11g DBA OCP eligible training but did not have 12c DBA OCP eligible training; and felt it would unlikely to be in budget.  ( Of course some of the 12c DBA OCP eligible training is a two day course .... approximately less than half the cost of 5 day courses ... sould that help).
And 1z0-053 + 1z0-060 is an alternative to 1z0-067 from his situation.
Therefore 12c DBA OCP should not be beyond his grasp ( assuming he can pass the exam(s)).

  • Java Class path for Oracle package compilation

    Hello
I am trying to send mail with file attachment, this part is
done by java program, it is compiled & working fine.
I am trying to compile the same java program at SQL prompt so
that I can build a package to execute that Java program from
Oracle. As java prog requires other class files
    (javax.mail.*,javax.mail.internet.*,javax.activation.*) to be
include , those class path is set at their respective location
    of OS.
Other Java programs are compiling fine from SQL but for this
mail prog, it is giving error as it is not finding the location
    of the include files.
Can anyone tell me from which class path does Oracle 8i compiles
Java program ? any additional information reqdng this issue ?
    thanks

  • Oledb and path length - Oracle client and networking components ...

    Hello,
    I've been suddenly getting the
"Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation."
error when trying to connect to an oracle 9.2 database using the msdaora oledb provider.
"..ora92/bin" is in my PATH environoment variable and the hints about setting read and execute permissions on the ..ora92/bin direction didn't work for me. However, what did do the trick, was reducing the length the PATH environement variable to under 182 characters.
Anybody else seen this that can explain what's gonig on here?
    Erik

    Hello Kamal,
    Thanks for your reply
    My system looks like this:
OS: MS Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
    msdaora version: 2.81.1117.0
This problem has only recently surfaced, but has now appeared on at least two other systems as well as my own. Any system changes must have happened on all three systems. I have "automatic updates" setup on my computer and they maybe setup on the other computers - could the be responsible for breaking oledb?
    Other things I have tried:
The Oracle Oledb provider is also not working. It gives me the error:
"OraOLEDBpus.dll: the specified module could not be found"
When I reduce the size of the PATH variable it works too.
I am always able to run executables from the ../ora92/bin directory. So the path is only being wrongly interpreted by the Oledb providers.

  • Path in Oracle SQL

    Hi,
I'm working with an Oracle 9i database using Oracle Discoverer. Discoverer lets me to make querys in the database with a look with colors and so on.
What I would like to say is if there is a SQL command that returns the path. For example, there is a SQL command that return the system date (November 22, 2004 could be a result). What I want to say is if there is a SQL command that returns the following (it's an example):
    c:\Windows\System
I'm working in Windows XP Professional.
    Thanks.

You did not explain what path you want to get at?
Is it the value of a environment variable that you need or is it the path to one of the executable file that you need or a path to something else?
Please provide more specific requirement as to "path to what" is requred?

  • Help Apply Patch to Oracle 11g

    Hello!
Currently I have a single stand alone server (RHEL 5.8 Linux) running Oracle 11.2.0.1. I'm being told that the latest patch level is 11.2.0.3. I would like to get my current production database patched / updated to the latest version so I was told to do a "Out-of-place" manual upgrade from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3. In generic online tutorials and documentation, here is what I did. Currently my $ORACLE_HOME on Linux is:
    echo $ORACLE_HOME
    /oracle/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1
I've downloaded the 1st two zip files for 11.2.0.3. I'm told that this will basically be a fresh / new installation of Oracle 11.2.0.3 on my server but installing in a new directlry structure or $ORACLE_HOME.
So I create the following new $ORACLE_HOME path on my existing production server:
    /oracle/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
Here I extracted the 1st two .ZIP files for 11.2.0.3. Once the two files were successfully extracted, I now had a sub-sirectory called $ORACLE_HOME/database and in this new 'database' folder I see the 'runInstaller' script to kick off the OUI (Oracle Universal Installer).
I walked through the failrly straight forward installer process and it said it completed successfully but now I'm confused on how or what methods do I need to take to migrate the data from my current $ORACLE_HOME to the newly created one. I know virtually nothing about Oracle 11g database systems but I'm eager to learn. I've used Google for most of my help with the exeption of some other forums. Can someone please help me with the correct / best way to finish the upgrade? So far I just installed Oracle over again on the same server just under a new folder path. The database listener and everything is still pointing to the 11.2.0.1 installation. I'm guessing I either have to use RMAN backupset from the 11.2.0.1 and recover it to the 11.2.0.3 install or perhaps there's some kind of migration step(s) / process.
Sorry if this seems very basic or well documented for most but I couldn't find any info and or perhaps the lingo was over my head. I appreciate any supprt and or info in helping me. If you can, please note that this is my production server and it's an Enterprise stand-alone database server so if I need to take the database down or offline, please be specific in the steps needed as I have NEVER done anything like this before. I do have daily backups that I run manually using RMAN but I'd like to avoid using those at all cost unless it's required.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Carl,
If you want to have your current database 11.2.0.1 to be upgraded in out of place.
first being safe is better take a backup of the current database.
As you have installed software 11.2.0.3 in out of place from previous home directory,
Now using DBUA you can upgrade your database.

  • Apply Patches on Oracle Database with Logical Standby Database

    Here I am:
I got a primary database with a logical standby database running Oracle 11g. I got two client applications, one is the production site pointing to the primary one, another one is just a backup site pointing to the logical one.Things will only be written into the primary database every mid night and client applications can only query the database but not add, update nor delete. And now, I want to apply the latest patch on both of my databases. I am also the DNS administrator, I can make the name server pointing to the backup site instead of the production one.I want to firstly apply the patch on the logical one, and then the physical one.
I found some reference which explains how to apply patches by adopting "Rolling Upgrade Method". however, I want to avoid doing any "switch over" mentioned in the reference because I can make use of name server. Can I just apply patches as the following way?
    1)Stop SQL apply
2)Apply patches on logical standby database
3)let the name server point to the backup site
4)Apply patches on the primary database
    5)Start SQL apply
6)Let the name server point back to the production site
    Thanks in advance.
