Applying security to multiple files

I am using Acrobat X and have multiple files that I must apply/change security settings for. Is there a way to do this without having to go into every file and do them one by one? I appreciate the help.

To create a new action, select: Tools > Action Wizard > Create New Action
For the Steps section, select "Protection > Encrypt" from the left panel and then select the Options button and select "Password Security" as the security method. You'll then be able to set the various options you want. Save the action and you can run it on a folder of documents. Be sure to work with copies of your files. More information about working with Actions is in the Acrobat help doc, but post again if you get stuck.

  • Applying labels to multiple files

How can I apply a label to multiple files through the visual interface? In other words, I want to select 3 files at once and then select the label option.  I know I can click on the add button for the apply label dialogue but this can be very tedious if you are dealing with a large set of files.  there has to be a way to do this right?
    Thanks in advance . .

Let's see if I can describe this clearly.  If I don't, do not hesitate to ask for clarification:
We have a parent folder Main that has production code.  When  a developer needs to work on a new project, he or she will branch a section of code to development folder and start working on it (if the same code files are there, there is no need to branch).  to make sure we have a rollback option (in case things go wrong), the developer should be able to select a group of files and label them as labelproj1 old before he or she starts development.  The way we do do development here is we have a rollback versions (we are still using VSS) based on previous pinnings if the project gets rolled back for whatever reason.
Selecting a group of files means we are only concerned with the files we modify.  We don't want to select the code at the folder level because we are not modifying those files.  We only concern ourselves with the files we modify for audit purposes.
does this clarify what I am looking for or do you need more clarification? Let me know and I wll be happy to clarify.

  • Add a watermark to multiple files within a PDF Portfolio in Acrobat X Pro?

Can I add a watermark to multiple files within a PDF Portfolio in Acrobat X Pro? If so, how?  It appears as though it is a removed option.

I've figured this out. (kind of) not using PDF Portfolio; where you could apply watermark to multiple files in Acrobat 9.
I'm answering my own question in case there are others looking to add a watermark to multiple files.
Step 1: Open a single file
    Step 2: Tools>Pages>Watermark>Add Watermark
Step 3: In bottom of Watermark Edit Box, Select "Apply to Multiple"
    Step 4: Select "Add Files
    etc etc.

  • Tagging Multiple Files for Security Settings

    Hello
I have a server 2008 R2 that I have to change 2000 Files under \Windows\System32 and 1700 files under \Windows\SysWOW62.  I can tag files with holding down the 'Ctrl' key, but Right-Click properties on multiple files does not give me Security, Advanced,
Auditing or Owner, I have to do each file at a time
Is there any way to get multiple files and get the Security, Advanced, Auditing and Owner settings?

If you must use Explorer, you could right-click the parent folder and apply the changes to all items and child-items, if that suits?

Disclaimer: You should not follow any of these instructions. They will cause you harm in every conceivable way. Don’t continue I say again … go read a book, see a movie, hit the gym, spend time with family and friends but by all means don’t read any further and certainly don’t follow any of these instructions.
    Windows 7
    Are you getting these errors?
“an error occurred while applying security information to: “filename”
    “access is denied”
“you currently don’t have access to this folder”
File Folder Lock On Lock Off Icon
Note: you may want to create a “test folder” and test these instructions so you can get familiar with them. Also if you have lots of folders, subfolders and files your computer may take awhile to make all the changes. Just sit back and relax while it crunches away ;-)
If you are going to want access to all your folders and files start with the topmost folder as we will be making a selection that will apply the setting to all subfolders and files. Ill point this out when we get to it later. You may only want to do this to files that you use directly and not mess with system files etc. These instructions can help you with files already on your system or files that you are bringing in from an external drive or other source.
    Here we go!
First we will be taking “ownership” of your files and folders (instructions 1-18) then we will be granting you the proper “permissions” (instructions 19-) ; these are two key principles you need to be aware of to properly manage your files. The good new is that once you make these changes they will persist and then you will be your local file guru!
    Instructions:
    TAKING OWNERSHIP (1-18):
    1) Turn on your computer and log into windows with administrator privileges. If you are the only user of your computer then chances are the normal account you log in with has these privileges. If someone else set your computer up for you they may have the administrator privileges and you should check with them.
    2) Right click on your top most folder and select properties.
    3) Select the security tab at the top.
    4) Don’t answer any questions that pop up just click the “advanced button” on the bottom right.
    5) Click the owner tab.
    6) Now click edit.
    7) Then click on “you”, that is, the account that you just logged into your computer with, also known as your “username”.
    8) Check the box “replace owner on subcontainers and objects”. I promised to point this out earlier. If you don’t check this box then any changes you make WON’T apply to the subfolders and files.
    9) Click apply.
    10) A dialog box should pop up with a message “You do not have…”
    11) you should select “yes”
    12) Another dialog box should pop up with a message “If you have just taken ownership …”
    13) Select “OK”
    14) Click “OK” again to close the “advanced security settings” screen were making changes to.
    15) The next box should now show you as the current owner
    16) Click “OK”
    17) Click “OK” again to close the properties tab
    18) We are now back at your folder listing. Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of your files! Take good care of them 
    SETTING PERMISSIONS
    19) OK, now let’s get started setting your permissions. Right click your topmost folder again and select properties.
    20) Select the security tab at the top.
    21) OPTIONAL: You will likely see a list of “group or user names” that have various permissions. You don’t need to make any changes to these. If you want to remove some then click edit, highlight a “group or user” and hit remove.
    22) If you are not already listed we need to add “you” to the list, again by “you” I mean the name of the account  that you logged into your computer with to start this session when you logged into windows, in other words your “username”. Click “add” then type JUST your username that comes up when you first log in to your computer by entering your username and password. You shouldn’t’ include any pathnames JUST the username.
    23) Click on “check names”; windows should find you.
    24) Click “OK”.
    25) Now you should be back at the “Permission/security” box
    26) Check the “full control” box under “allow”. Scroll down and you will see you can do everything now. Hey, stop obsessing …the “special permissions” tab is OK unchecked…  It is there if you were to want to fine tune. You took full control already what else do you want  You are behind the driver’s wheel my friend, enjoy!
    27) Select “apply”.
    28) Select “OK”
    29) Select “OK”
    30) OPTIONAL (THE little LOCK): did a “lock” appear. It might have if you removed all other “group or user names” back in step 21. The lock just means that YOU alone have access to these files. It is not bad in fact it is an easy way to see that the folder is unshared in every way. If you want to experiment with the “lock” try this: Right click the folder again but this time DON’T select properties instead a little higher up on the list select “share with”: see the lock by “nobody”. You aren’t sharing with anybody and so there is a lock to signify that. To experiment you can click “specific people” type “guest” click “add” then click to highlight the new “guest row” leave the “read” box checked and click “share”. You are now sharing those folders or files with “YOU” and anyone that logs onto your machine as a “Guest” and the lock has disappeared. To bring the lock back: right click the folder, click “share”, click “nobody”. LOCK ON / LOCK OFF …hey your Kung Fu is pretty good! For further experimenting with the lock try this but first a security warning: (SECURITY WARNING: changing these sharing settings may share your files with anyone going through your router/homegroup. This may compromise your security. Always protect access to your wireless router by using passwords to get onto the wireless network and also setting router passwords to prevent access to the router itself). If you set up a “homegroup” on your network and select this choice the “lock” will disappear and your files can now be shared with anyone logged into your network.
    • There could be multiple reasons for “access denied errors”. A nasty one is that the file/pathname is too long (>260 characters in Windows 7). You should start to shorten the root folder names as much as possible and bring down the longest path name to well under 260 characters (also including into that calculation the path where you will be copying the files).
    Enjoy!

  • Combine functionality Batch Create Multiple files and Set Security

    Greetings,
Is there any way to combine the functionality of Acrobat Pro’s “Batch Create Multiple Files” (File (drop down) -> Create PDF -> Batch Create Multiple Files…) and running a batch process (Advanced -> Document Processing -> Batch Processing -> Batch Sequences -> Set Security)?
    Ideally I’d like to either:
    1)      Add the “Set Security” batch process to the “Batch Create Multiple Files … command located under the File (drop down) -> Create PDF
    or
    2)      Be able to create a batch process that first allows me to select the documents (Word, Excel, etc.) I want to convert into PDF files, then converts them, then runs the Set Security batch process.
Right now it isn’t too much trouble to first “Create Multiple Files…” then run the batch process Set Security, but it would be nice to be able to do both with a single command.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    TPK

  • How do you add a water mark to multiple images within multiple files?

I am having real trouble in trying to add a water mark to multiple images (mixture of jpegs and tiffs) within multiple file.
I have used the Batch processing tool, but this hasn't worked or has been inconvenient, asking me to resave each individual file.
If anyone can help or suggest another way of doing this, that would be great!
    Thanks
    Becca

Are you using Russell Brown's script for placing watermarks?  Also you mentioned, "Within multiple file."  Did you mean multiple folders?  The batch processor has a check box for applying process to multiple folders.  What itsn't working - exactly?

  • Multiple file download issues

    Hi All,
I have designed an APEX application to download multiple files. I have check box in each row of the file name and a download button.
When the users checks set of checkboxes and click on the "Download" Button, i am expecting the marked files to be downloaded. I am encountering the below issues in this implementation(i.e single file download is fine):
    1. When ticks all the check boxes and click download, the files are never downloading. The target URL goes something like this :
    www.example.com/abc/bcd/wwv_flow.accept
and there is a cross icon in the new page. No download happening.
    2. When ticks few files and leave rest of the files un-checked, there are either junk charactes in target page (or) only the last checked box file alone downloading.

I am creating a WebApp for user to save some information with multiple pitcures. I can only see a single uploader.
How can I add multiple image uploader and How can I create a custom file upload field rather than image upload ?

    Hi,
There's no other upload field type for web apps.  You'll need to use the "image file type" to apply multiple file upload fields within the web app form in this case.

  • File corruption on SDCard when multiple files are being written from WinCE 6.0R3

We currently have file corruption problems which we have been able to reproduce on our system which uses WinCE 6.0R3. We have an SDCard in our system which is mounted as the root FS.  When multiple files are being written to the file system we occasionally
see file corruption with data destined from one file, ending up in another file, or in another location in the same file.  We have already written test SW that we have been able to use to reproduce the problem, and have worked with the SDCard vendor to
check that the memory controller on the card is not the source of the problems.
We know that the data we send to WriteFile() is correct, and that the data which eventually gets sent through the SDCard driver to the SD card is already corrupted.
We believe that the problem is somewhere in the microsoft private sources between the high level filesystem API calls and the low level device calls that get the data onto the HW.
We have confirmed that the cards that get corrupted are all good and this is not a case ofpoor quality flash memory in the cards. The same cards that fail under WinCE 6.0R3 never fail under the same types of testing on Windows, Mac OX, or linux.  We
can hammer the cards with single files writes over and over, but as soon as multiple threads are writing multiple files it is only a matter of time before a corruption occurs.
One of the big problems is that we are using the sqlcompact DB for storing some data and this DB uses a cache which get's flushed on it's own schedule. Often the DB gets corrupted because other files are being written when the DB decides to flush.
So we can reproduce the error (with enough time), and we know that data into the windows CE stack of code is good, but it comes out to the SDcard driver corrupted.  We have tried to minimize writes to the file system, but so far we have not found a
way to make sure only one file can be written at once. Is there a setting or an API call that we can make to force the OS into only allowing one file write at a time, or a way of seeing how the multiple files are managed in the private sources?
    Thanks
    Peter

All QFE's have been applied we are building the image so we have some control.
I have build an image which used the debug DLL's of the FATFS and I have enabled all of the DebugZones.  The problem is still happening. From the timings in the debug logs and the timestamps in the data which corrupts the test file I have been able
to see that the file is corrupted AFTER the write is complete. Or at least that's how it seems.
We finished writing the file and closed the handle. Then more data is written to other files. When we get around to verifying the file it now contains data from the files that were subsequently written.
What I think I need to do is figure out in detail how the two files were "laid down" onto the SDCard.  If the system used the same cluster to write the 2 files then that would explain the issue.

  • Adobe Acrobat pro 9.4.6 crashes when opening multiple files simultaneously.

We have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 which has been updated to version 9.4.6. we had this problem when the 9.4.5 update was applied also. It is now crashing when we try to open multiple files simultaneously.
Yesterday, I narrowed down the problem to 6 plugins:
    IA32
    ADBC
    eBook
    EScript
    HLS
    PPKLite
    SaveAsRTS
However, we discovered that that Comments and markup tool bars weren't loading. So I did a repair install on it.
Now those plugins from yesterday work and Acroform.api is causing it to crash when opening multiple files.
I did try other suggestion that involved using Icacls/cacls on dll files to no avail.
It is running on XP SP3 fully updated with plenty of RAM and HDD space.
Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling?

I am not sure what's causing this problem on your machine because everything's working fine for me.
What is the version of Acroform.api on your machine now.
Do a Repair after deleting this file and see if it works.
Enable Windows MSI logging (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314852) before you do a repair, upload that log to some file sharing server, and paste its link here.

  • Sub folders and Process multiple files in Photoshop Elements 10

I am looking to apply the same adjustments to numerous images in numerous sub-folders and overwrite the original images.
Using the Process Multiple Files options,  I added the main folder (which contains no images) to the Source field, selected the Include All Subfolders tick-box, also selected the Same as Source tick-box (which warns you original files will be overwritten) and then completed the image adjustments I required.   However, after running the process all the adjusted images were saved in the main folder and did not overwrite the originals contained in each sub-folder.  Does anyone know if there is a setting I am missing to replace the images in the sub-folders or is this by design ?

    bossti a écrit:
hi, so is it possible to keep the same subfolder structure as output location? regards! bostjan
    No...
I think you are going to run great risks in trying to use batch process like 'process multiple files' or 'export' while relying on subfolder structures.
    - the organizer is much more powerful with its database and keywords management than a folder structure organization,
    - Batch processes are limited in Elements
    - 'Good practice' calls for keeping originals intact.
What are you wanting to do exactly ? We might be able to suggest alternative workflows.

  • Acrobat 9: Apply Security to PDF v6 without it changing to v7.

    Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 (MAC)
Apple Mac Book Pro 17" 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM.
I am working for a client which is using Adobe Reader 6, but I am using Acrobat 9 Pro. By using the Reduce File Size function and setting it to version 6 and later, I have managed to make the files open in Reader 6 without any warning about the PDF files being made in a later version that that being used to read them.
This works, and there is no version warning, however, when I apply security to all 90 PDFs, which is set to version 6, the PDFs once again give the version compatibility warning.
So, is there a way to apply security to a PDF using Acrobat 9.0.0 and enable it to be opened with reader 6 without version warnings (other than using Acrobat 6, which I do not have)?
    Thanks all.

I have checked and the security, as set, remains intact after the reduce file size function.
Under document properties (I am checking every file to make sure) PDF is version 1.5 and security does what I asked it to prevent/allow.
Thanks for your assistance in this matter - a long project full of unexpected twists (like this security biz) is now at its end.

  • Unable to upload multiple files

In MOSS, I am unable to upload multiple files from the Site Actions | Manage Content and Structure | New | Item menu. I have tried adding Word documents and image files (JPEG, GIFS) to no avail into the \images or \document folders. Even if I try just one file, three or five, the menu never initiates or progresses. It just sits. If I cancel, the menu returns immediately. I have tried to change security settings with no success. Trying to upload multiple files on different MOSS installations also fails. If this is related to a Web Dev settings, can you tell me exactly where the setting is? Thanks for your insight. cm

Believe it or not, I have found a solution after about 4hrs of fiddling around. This appears to be a bug in Sharepoint 2007. There is a work around that I have discovered! Follow the steps below and let me know if this works for you. It has worked for me and other people so far.
    The steps are as follows:
    1) Browse to your website at http://<servername>/_layouts/settings.aspx; you will need to login by providing a service account name & password or your site collection administrator account & password.
    2) Once you login, click on 'Site Actions' menu.
    3) Then, click on 'Manage Site Content and Structure'.
    4) Click on any document library you want to upload or add files into. If you do not see the 'Upload' menu from the dropdown main menu between the 'New' and 'Actions' menu then you have this bug as well showing up on your server. Don't give up yet, there is a solution. Keep going through these steps!
    5) Click on 'New' and select 'Item'.
    6) You should now see the Upload Document page; under the input browse field there should be a link for 'Upload Multiple Files...', if you do not see this you will need to install either Office 2003 or Office 2007. If you do see it, click on it.
    7) Now, you should see the multiple upload page that allows you to select multiple files. If you try to select one or several and click on the OK button, nothing will happen. No need to worry! There is a work around. Just keep reading to the next step.
    8) On the hierarchy navigation you will have links something like this:
    WebSiteName > Folder1 > Folder2
    9) Click on the "Document Library" folder name; in our case it was Folder1. Basically its the folder you ended up in in step #4.
    10) Now, did you notice anyting in your menu change? Now you should be able to see the Upload menu option between the 'New' and 'Actions' menu that you could not see in step #4.
    11) Click on the 'Upload' menu and select 'Upload Multiple Documents'
    12) Now, you will be back at the Upload document page where you were in step #7
    13) Select one file or many and then click OK. Now it works!!! You should get an IE popup asking you that your about to upload files to your site, Click OK.
    VOILA!!!
Don't ask me why, I do not know why this happens but it works.
