Applying Settings in Compressor 4 Hangs

Upgraded a while back from FCP to FCPX and Compressor 4... everything was ok for a while but after taking the recent osx upgrade to 10.8.2 Compressor is hanging for 10-20 seconds after dragging any settings on to a movie exported to compressor from FCPX. I'm running a quad core mac pro with 26g of ram. Render time is fine but getting sick of waiting after dragging the settings over. Any help would be appreciated. can supply additional info if needed.

Hi Russ and thanks for getting back to me. I'll try this out and update the thread, although exporting a master file and bringing it in will probably consume the 20 second delay I'm getting now (which is annoying but not a show stopper). Render times are still fine. Note also that I'm getting a similar delay when selecting different tabs in Compressor... If I load a bunch of movies in, each under a different tab and then try to cycle through the tabs, Compressor hangs... waits, thinks, and then the content on the new tab comes up... strange.
It doesn't matter what preset I use, custom or apple delivered... all formats are the same. As soon as I drag up and realease it on the source movie, Compressor hangs for 20 seconds... the hard drive click away so something is happening but it didn't do this prior.

I got the same error as I tried to build my application, the reason was the string I set for the 'Build specification name' property of my build.
I changed from '3DC - Dlog Data Compacter ' to '3DC' and it worked afterwards..quite strange behaviour..

Can I Encode to These Settings with Compressor??

I need some help from you good people.
I have been tasked with preparing our video program for an SD Television Broadcast.
In my many years of using Final Cut, I have never had to export for an official SD Broadcast. So I declare up front that this is a new world for me from web and DVD creation.
But I seem to be having a hard time matching all of these settings using an MPEG-2 Transport Stream in Compressor. So I want to know if I can use Compressor to match these settings or will I miss some of what the station wants?
I've tracked down most of the major settings in Compressor. I highlighted below in bold and red what I am having trouble with.
I will also add that I was trying to work with the GOP I and P frames settings but do not see a choice for selecting 1 frame for each one.
Most of my other issues are with the audio settings. I went to "Extras" and selected Multiplex but don't have any other control over the audio.
So any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Disclosure: I haven't prepared a show for SD Broadcast either, but have been working with Compressor/DVDStudio Pro for a decade.
Looking at the specs, there are only a couple of unclear areas... the big thing is, they're asking for a Program Stream rather than Elementary Streams.
I looked into that codec and it seems capable of handling the task once you clear up the VBR/CBR and interlace/de-interlace questions.

Settings in Compressor 3.5 for HDV Video

Hi, for a long time i search the perfect settings in Compressor to play my home movies on the actual Mac mini and also the PS3 without any other transformation. i think 1280 * 720 (720p) is the best, but witch settings in the Compressor is perfect?
Is there any PAL settings to download, i doesn't found a good one in Compressor taht works....

You need to select an output: MP4, MOV or the Apple TV settings. If you have Compressor 3.5 there are templates for Apple TV that work quite well. And I think, and I'm sure someone is ready to correct me, that either MP4 or MKV will play on the PS3

Apply Settings for EWA Monitoring missing

Hi all,
we are adding a SAP HANA Technical System on Solution Manager, but we found problems on EWA:
We followed the note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1542651 for using Early Watch Alerts on HANA Standalone (without Netweaver ABAP) and then followed the note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1747682 for add an HANA Technical System on Solution Manager.
The fact is that in step 6 of "Managed System Setup" we don't found "Apply Settings for EWA Monitoring":
In attached image you can see only 4 activities instead of five: the follow image is taken from another Solution Manager (SPS10, but SPS7 works the same)
We have SAP HANA 1.0.69 and Solution Manager SPS8.
Why "Apply Settings for EWA Monitoring" is missing? How can i apply this settings?

After 19 hours of this problem, it is now resolved on the management portal. There was no mention of it being a problem on the Azure Status page.

Color settings in Compressor

When I save a H.264 movie from Final Cut 7 the night scenes seem to have a lot of noise now. Is there a way to reduce the noise in the color settings in Compressor?

I think color output space is worth looking into. I need to export as a H.264 file, it is what's required by the film festival. Also, in the original ProRes files in Final Cut there is no noise at all, very clean, also very clean exported as a self contained Qtime movie, uncompressed.
The film was color corrected by a professional color grader so the problem is in the software settings with the H.264 codec.

Printing Problem Pages- When printing, once I have confirmed the printing settings, the Proccessing Page Hangs, and then Pages begins to freeze, and then says Error While Printing.

Do you have the same problem with printing from other apps, such as TextEdit? Have you looked at your printer's control panel to see if an error condition is displayed there, and if so, what is it?

Apply settings to images upon import

I am using LR 5. Is there a way to apply settings to images upon import? For example, I want to set noise reduction to X if an imported image has a ISO setting between 1000 to 1250, from camera A with lens B. Right now I am applying the changes manually by using the metadata filter, but it will be great if the same settings can be applied upon import (to save time)

To set detail settings based on ISO, it's best to use a plugin (in my opinion), otherwise you have to mastermind which ISO's your camera is capable of having, and save a default for each, then if you want to change you have to go through the process again.
Some cameras can have dozens of different auto-ISO values, and it's best if you don't skip any of them.. granted it's not so bad if you never shoot auto-ISO .
Consider:
* ISO Detailer (author: me), or
* Bulk Develop (author: Jeffrey Friedl)
instead - both plugins are essentially free.

Update/Migrate Settings to Compressor 4

I spoke with someone pretty knowledgable about Compressor who suggested having the old Compressor 3.5 application open and drag and drop the old settings in to Compressor 4 Settings window to exchange between the two since Compressor 4 doesn't have immediate access to your old settings. Since Compressor 4.0.2, it looks like Apple has disabled the ability for the two programs to be open at the same time and I'm working on a new machine - how can I bring my settings from Compressor 3.5 to 4? Why doesn't Compressor 4 offer to import the previous settings? Is this a legacy feature thing? Should I really start from scratch?

You can't export uncompressed in iMovie. By default iMovie wants to use H.264, which is way too highly compressed to do anything with beyond showing off as is. You'd need to use Share > Export Using QuickTime Conversion. There, you have an Options button, where you can set it up to be a ProRes 422 QT movie. Take that into Compressor. Be careful of the Fram Size, as iMovie wants to only give you a tiny frame size by default, make sure it's the native frame size/rate as the original camera shot it in. I don't know if Finalizing a project helps at all, but I assume those are just H.264 files, too.
If you want to move to this higher resolution and more complex transcode type of work, FCP X may be a consideration. iMovie wasn't really designed to work with Compressor really.

CS4: Applying settings to unopened image files

Is it possible to apply settings to image files without first opening all the image files?

You do know that you can open multiple raw images in Camera Raw, select All and Synchronize them, don't you?
In Bridge you can also select multiple files, then Edit > Develop Settings > Paste Settings.

Compressor crashes after attempting to apply settings to large batch

I am trying to batch transcode hundreds of MP4 video files at once using Compressor 3. After importing the media files, I attempt to apply a single setting to all files and Compressor crashes. Not only does it crash, but I lose all of my presets with seemingly no way of recovering them.

I had the same thing a few weeks ago. Super annoying. After a frustrated search I found this:
User(you)/Library/Application Support/Compressor/History
Quit Compressor -> Delete the contents of that History Folder -> Empty the trash. Seems that Compressor refuses to do a job twice! If there is just o n e film you already compressed in that History folder, Compressor just won't do the entire batch! Worse - you have to start clicking all over again. UGH...

How do I change export settings in Compressor 4?

In the old compressor, I could export a movie and choose all my own settings pertaining to size, quality, streaming or not, keyframe rate, data rate, compression type, aspect ratio, etc..., same was true of the old Final Cut. So in making FCP X, they removed that functionality and forced me to go through Compressor to have that ability. Now they've upgraded Compressor and, apparently, removed that functionality from there, as well. So where do I go to have control over any of that? Is it possible anymore? Come on, Apple, don't make it more difficult. I'm all for upgrading a software's interface to make it more user-friendly, but don't take away functionality, please.

Had to save the export to the custom area, but the main thing I was missing was to show the inspector window. Once there I could manage all the settings I was complaining about

Applying settings preset to multiple images in ACR v4.3

When attempting to apply a preset to multiple images in ACR, the preset is only applied to the "current" or "active" image. The other images in the thumbnail pane remain unchanged, even though they are selected. This function works correctly in Bridge, but not in ACR. "Synchronizing" the files does not do the same thing, as my preset incorporates "Apply auto tone adjustments." What am I missing?

Pardon my misunderstanding of the question. I just tried it, and the method of selecting the images has no impact (e.g., the "select all" button, or hold "shift" or "ctrl" and click on multiple images...)
All the boxes are checked in the "synchronize" dialog. However, this synchronizes all of the settings to the "active image," which ties the tone adjustments to that image, which is undesirable. I just want to automatically adjust the tones (as part of my preset) to all of the selected images.
Based upon input from this tread, this is the refined procedure I use to "check" if it's working (which hasn't for me so far):
1) Select multiple images (or all, if you prefer)
2) Apply "camera raw defaults" Note that the settings default to Blacks: +5, Brightness: +50, Contrast: +25
3) Apply a saved preset (saved with the check box "Apply auto tone adjustments" checked).
4) Note that the Blacks, Brightness, and Contrast sliders only "adjust" for the "active" image, but don't change for the other selections. They remain at Blacks: +5, Brightness: +50, Contrast: +25
Again, if I perform this procedure in Bridge, it works for all selected images. However, in ACR, it functions as described above.
Does that clear it up?

Actually I have a movie clip which contains a Print Button and a uiloader.
uiloader loads differnt external movies.
I applied a code to Print button to print those movies.
This code is working good but problem is, it print the both (main_movie & external_movie) with its actual colors not with the current applied colors.
I want to print only External movie with its current color settings (applied by user) not actual default colors.
So can any one tell me how can i do this?

Audition CC crash when applying single-band compressor

On a MacPro with Creative Cloud (all updates applied)
I started with a sequence in Premiere. I selected Edit in Adobe Audition/Sequence. The project opens fine. I then select a track. In the Effects Rack, I click the Track Effects button and then choose Applitude and Compression/Single-band Compressor.
I then get the message "Audition Error - Audition has encountered a fatal error and needs to shut down." I click OK and Audition goes through the shutdown process.
When I use the same steps and apply other effects, I have no problem. I have not tried all of the available effects, but I figured 10 was a good sample size.
I then tried starting an new multitrack project and imported an unrelated audio file. Same problem. The single-band compressor crashes the program. The other effects that I have tried are fine.
I then tried opening audition, finding an audio file in the media browser, and then double-clicked it, opening just a waveform project. Same problem. The single-band compressor crashes the program.
Any thoughts?

Can those who are seeing this crash on Mac OS X send a copy of the related crash log to [email protected] ?
You can find the crash log by opening Applications > Utilities > Console.app Open the User Diagnostic Reports section and locate the entry for Adobe Audition CC. This can be dragged into an e-mail as an attachment, or copy-pasted directly to the email.
