Applying SPs Using SAPinst

Hi!
I'm currently updating our JDI server from SP Stack 09 to 12.
I'm using "SAP Netweaver '04 SP Stack 12 Guide", and in the document, it says that I have to use SAPinst to apply the .SAR files (J2EERT, SAPINST, CTRL, J2EERTOS).
Where can I find this SAPinst tool?  Is this the startinstgui.bat in the Master DVD of NetWeaver '04?  I keep on getting an error when I enter the hostname and port no.
Please help.
Regard,
Erik

Hi RK,
Please read the message above.  I have all the files to patch my JDI server.
The patches (*.SAR) to upgrade the SAP WEB AS Java 6.40 needs SAPinst (according to SP Stack 12 Guide).
I'm having problems running the startinstgui.bat.

  • J2EE patch using SAPInst

    Hello,
This is for NW04 with ABAP+J2EE.
If I want to apply patches to J2EE using SAPInst then can I just do it while both ABAP and J2EE is running. I think ABAP is independent of this.
    Please advice.
    I will appreciate you help.
    Thank you.
    SC

    Hi Sume Chau ,
When patching a ABAP+Java system you need to have ABAP and Java running. SAPInst will stop and start Java where it's needed.
Please have a look at the Support Package Stack Installation guides. Here you find the install guide for SPS15

  • System copy for ABAP+JAVA system using SAPINST method

    Dear support,
We have recently upgraded to ECC 6.0 system and we have been still doing system copy by using backup and restore method. I know its<b> wrong</b>.
which involves below steps , this old methos works fine for ABAP engine and evreything looks ok.But java engine will not work.
So we need to use SAPINST method as described in note 785848 and system copy guide available on OSS. But i am really not able to understand sequence
for tasks to be carried out in this SAPINST method.
<b>Can anybody list few sequence along with step by step procedure as i mentioned below for old system copy procedure.</b>
Is it really difficult to make that for <b>SAPINST</b>  as everybody says refer to standard guide and note ?
Anybody if possible can make the same way as i did below , i think it would rather be small as far as my understanding after reading those docs.
Simple old system copy procedure works for ABAP is as:
Run the following command on source system.
    a. Login as <sid>adm
    b. svrmgrl
    c. connect internal
    d. alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    e. exit;
    f. Above command will generate a .trc file in /oracle/P01/saptrance/usertrace directory.
    g. Copy the text from CREATE CONTROLFILE until the ( and paste it in to any new .sql or controlfile.sql file.
    h. Copy the controlfile.sql to target system.
    i. Edit the file and replace the entire source SID to target SID.
    j. Edit the reuse database command with the set database command
Copy the aft generated during the backup file from the source system to target system. (/oracle/<SID>/sapbackup)
    a. Change all the source <SID> to target <SID>.
    b. Only don't change the backup volume name it must be target system <SID>.
    c. Copy the above aft file name line from the source back<SID>.log to target<SID>.log file.
    5. Shutdown the target server instance.
    6. From this onwards all the command on the target system only.
    a. Login as <SID>adm
    b. run the SAPDBA
    c. select J (Restore/Recovery)
    d. select B (Full restore and recovery)
    e. select A (Select backup of type)
    f. Select the offline backup which you want to restore.
    g. It will take some time to restore.
    h. Once the database is restored login as <SID>adm and run the
    i. svrmgrl
    j. connect internal;
    k. startup nomount (if the database is already mounted shutdown it using the shutdown command)
    l. run the following command
    m. @controlfile.sql (file name of the control file contains the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement)
    n. After the run the above command it should give the "Statement Processed)
    o. alter database open resetlogs.
I am really looking forward to see anybody take some time out to prepare this kind of step by step procedure.
It would be of greate help for all of us for performing system copy with sapinst method.
    Looking forward for your support.
    Best Regards,
    AjitR

    Hi,
As per the guide you need to do source system Technical Preparations, in that running the export preparation is also one. You need to run this first before you start the export, if and only if export will successful if preparation is successful.
Yes you need to create the export directory to take the export copy of source system, it may be any where in your server. It should be having 6 to 8 GB free space. No need to create the export directory in target system, after export is completed in the source system you copy the export directory to the target system.
    <b>Target system</b>
Yes you need to take the back up file system and delete all the contents of the directory.
Yes it can be considered as fresh system installation but copy of source system.
Yes the process follows after you giving the export directory path .
Next screen you will get the database drop and recreate screen chouse the drop and recreate method
Next J2EE user name and password
    Next DDIC password
Next you have to give kernel and oracle client dvd path
Next Parameter checking screen here if you are selected database drop and recreate you have to revise the oracle database system option
If you are selecting review next screen is database advance option you have to select the advanced option
Next you have to select following option to recreate
    1 Sapdata directory mapping
    2 Database instance file system
    3 Create database parameter
    4 Create tablespace
    Next screen sapdata directory creating
Next screen you can just click next no need to change any setting
    Next table creation
Next screen specify oracle instance directories
Next again parameter checking and last this is last screen
Next will be the execution screen
    Reward points if usefull

  • System Copy using SAPINST

When we do system copy from one system on an existing system using SAPINST (Database independent method), Is it first necessary to delete the existing system, please advice.

I have read the guides available on it, but I was not able to get a clear understanding.
In system copy guide it says
If the target system already exists and you do not plan to perform an MCOD installation, delete the database on the target system before the import according to the corresponding description in the Additional Information section of the installation documentation for your SAP component.
If the database configuration of your database is stored in the file system, we recommend that you back these configuration files up before deleting the database.
I am little confused by it, does it mean delete complete system or database only

  • Error while importing data using SAPINST system copy method

    Dear Friends,
I am in process of doing system copy from production to Quality.
    OS: Linux
    Database: DB2
We have completed export from production. I have uninstalled quality system before importing, uninstall of quality system was succesful. Know while importing the exported data by using sapinst method, i am getting error in phase define parameter. Where it is showing error as below.

from the above error , it seems it is trying to conect to old quality database, but i don't know why it is doing so, as i have already uninstall the complete instance using sapinst. need your expert suggestion to over come this issue.
    Thanks

    Hi ,
This is probably due to shutdown of the system not correctly.
you will have to re-create control file.

  • System Copy Guide: Exporting the Source System Using SAPinst.

    Hi Gurus,
I am trying to do Unicode conversion of ERP 2005 SR3 on Oracle/WS2003
    The preparation steps are OK
When I execute the last Phase using Sapinst : "database instance export",
it finishes within one minute with the message "Database instance export has been completed succesfully"
    but without exporting data.
I have follow up Unicode Conversion Guide  and System Copy Guide System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 ABAP+Java.
    What could be wrong here?
    Thansk for your help

So you need to set an environment variable
    SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME = <your-virtual-hostname>
    for the user executing sapinst.

  • How to get certain applied styles using script?

    Hi All,
I need to know how to get certain applied styles using ID Scripting. I don't have much experience in InDesign so need some help.
Here is a screenshot with a sample text with the said styles applied and highlighted.
I need to know what texts in my document have these styles applied like All Caps, Strikethrough, Underline, Subscript and Superscript etc.
    Please help.
    Thanks!

    Hi Poortip87
The first thing you have to understand is how to refer to "where" you want to apply the style.
    If you want the script to apply the style to the selected text then you would use for example app.selection[0].strikeThru = true;
    If you for example want to underline the last word of the first paragraph of the first story you would use app.activeDocument.stories[0].paragraphs[0].words[-1].underline = true;
If you just wanted the first letter of that word underlined then you would add .characters[0] after the words[-1]
To for example apply All Caps to all the text in all the stories you would use
    app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().texts[0].capitalization = Capitalization.ALL_CAPS;
The easiest way to find how to set properties to a selections is to set them manually and make the selection and then run the script below.
You should be able to find all the properties you want very easily after running the script.
Or you can use Jongwares excellent reference guide. Indesign JavaScript Help

  • "apply transitions using" is missing in my preference dialog box!

Why do I not have the "apply transitions using" in my preference dialog box?

    Clodimedius wrote:
There is a way to avoid using the overlap mode, which is very simple.
Instead of using Command T to apply the default transition and shorten the video, drag the transition from the list of transition in the media browser effects library on the right.
This way, the default overlap mode is applied, instead of using the available media.
I am sorry, but this is just wrong. The default option is "using available media", as it should, no matter how you apply the transition. Like James said, you only get the "overlap" option if there is no available media to work with.
By the way, this has been this way for quite some time already (I think since 10.0.1, but I can't be sure).

  • Install db using sapinst on sql cluster

I'm having an issue installing the ep6 db using sapinst on a sql cluster. sapinst wants to install to the localhost/default, but I need to specify the "virtual" sql cluster name.
Is there a workaround using sapinst, or is there some special way one needs to backup/restore onto the cluster from another machine..
    any ideas?

    Hi Gabor-
Although it's not supported, you can get EP6 SP2 to work with clustered SQL server 2000 on a virtual MSCS cluster. (We have it working here on Win2003)
The instructions were posted somewhere on this discussion board before, but here they are again:
    1) Install SQL as a default local instance with the DB files on a clustered drive. Make sure to choose custom install and select Binary 850 collation.
    2) Select a clustered drive for the SQL data files.
    3) Install SQL SP3
    4) Install SQL hotfix xxxx
    5) Run instcoll.exe on the local instance to upgrade to 850 BIN2
    6) Run SAPinst, choose ?Database? and allow the setup to create the databases PCD and WCM
    7) Detach the databases (Right click on the DB in SQL Enterprise Manger and Detach)
    8) Upgrade the local SQL instance to a clustered instance (Note: when running sql setup again, make sure there is no other default instance running on the other node or you will not have the upgrade option). You will have to give the SQL install an instance name at this point.
    9) Re-install SQL SP3
    10) Re-install hotfix xxx
    11) Re-run instcoll.exe (Note: You will have to do this while SQL services are running. Instcoll will prompt you to stop them using the SQL Services Manager, follow the instructions Instcoll displays).
    12) Attach the PCD and WCM databases.
    13) Run SAPInst on your portal servers and point the install at the clustered SQL virtual server name / instance.
    General comments:
There are 3 main considerations when installing EP6 with a clustered SQL backend:
    1) You can only run SAPinst ? Database (creates PCD and WCM databases, SAPPCD and SAPWCM users) against a local non-named instance of SQL (SAPinst used the local SQL pipe to connect)
    2) Instcoll.exe will NOT run against a SQL installation that has the two EP6 databases (PCD/WCM) attached, hence the need to detach them before running setup / instcoll.
    3) Be very careful with collations. After the upgrade to cluster operation the collation will not be the same. If you attach the PCD and WCM databases to a SQL server running the wrong collation YOU WILL CORRUP THE DATABASES!

  • Migration from 10g to 11i using sapinst - system copy

    Hi ,
We are planning to migrate from our current platform to new platform.
    Current Platform :  windows 2003,oracle 10g , ecc6.0
    Target :  Windows 2008 R2 , oracle 11g , ecc6.0
The process we are going to follow is system copy (Import/Export)
what are the Prerequisites for the for the same.
Do we have to need Sap netwever 7.0 sr3 atleast to carry out import / export.
What about the kernel and Export ?
Is it compatible to move from 10g to 11g using sapinst system copy.
    Thanks,
    Neel

    Hello,
    >> what are the Prerequisites for the for the same.
    Read the system copy guide
    >> Do we have to need Sap netwever 7.0 sr3 atleast to carry out import / export.
No, all versions are valid. Read the system copy guide according to your NW version.
    >> Is it compatible to move from 10g to 11g using sapinst system copy.
Yes, absolutely. On target system you install 11g software.
    Thanks

  • How to find out the list of patches applied without using inventory?

    Hi,
I have been asked this question once.
How will you find out the list of patches applied to Oracle Database Home without using commands like opatch lsinventory -detal etc...
I think registry$history is a view from where we can find out the list of patches applied.
But I think it will not include all the bug fixes, stand alone or one-off patches. It will mainly list out the CPU patches applied(correct me if I am wrong).
    Thanks,
    Rushi

    Hi;
    Thanks Helios,

Could you tell me how do you all senior people manage to find metalink note for almost everything? There is nothing special, For me I just make more search at metalink than googling so after sometimes you started to notice which note could be related wiht issues more clearly.. Just keep searching at metalink and focus what you are searching only.. ;)
If you could guide me I can do it my self and stop bothering you for some silly doubts. You dont bother me and also I belive the other forum users ;) We are also learning new information wiht user questions ;)

  • [CS3/4, JS] Apply feather using an object style

I was hoping to apply transparency effects via an object style using this:
    myObjectStyle.objectStyleContentEffectsCategorySettings.enableFeather = true;
But "Object does not support the property or method..." etc.
I'd be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.
    Thanks in advance -- Jeremy

Yes, I had got that far by stumbling blindly through the undergrowth, but it still seems to leave feather switched off, according to the Object Styles Panel, and my fumbling attempts to adjust choke, noise, etc. do not seem to have any effect, so I think it really must be switched off. What gave you the impression that that line was successfully switching feather on?
Partly, my difficulties stem from the fact that I find the Extendscript Toolkit CS4 Object Model Viewer incomprehensible. I mean, take a look at the picture below. What is "Object Model Object Model Object Model Object Model", supposed to mean, and why is every version of InDesign labelled "CS4"?

  • Apply patch using indpatch.pl

    Hi All,
Before applying India Localization patch using indpatch.pl do we have to stop apps services, and enable maintanence mode while DB is up and running?
