Applying "User Groups" -- What do I get?!

I am able to assign a user to a user group using the User Admin in Apex.
I don't know how I would be able to assign a role (that I know how to define that for an individual user).
The only thing I can see is a name for User Group and a Description!
My requirement is to define a group of people to be assigned to one group/role, so that every change to that role can be automatically be applied to each user in that group.
any idea?

You create groups and assign users to those.
Then you need develop authorization schema that utilize user group information.

    Another developer has modified the "APEX_ACCESS_CONTROL" table with an additional column(s) that would allow access to specific pages. I am not sure if this is good practice to modify Apex tables.
    Is there a way to create user groups while using DATABASE ACCOUNT for authentication? What is the best practice in a case like this?

The Application Express machinery knows nothing about them.

And you can write an API for applications to use to query this information and to maintain it from custom applications built for that purpose.

  • How to create a New user group for AD-HOC

    when i select a work area for ad-hoc i dont find any exisitng user groups...
    i get a blank screen with an error saying no usergroup

    sorry but my english isn't the best so i try an answer again and hope i'm on the right way:
    Step by step guide for example client 100 and 200 on the same system. System 100 has usergroup test001 and client 200 has not.
    1. call sq03 in client 100
    2. pick the transport truck
    3. pick radiobutton [Export] and and radio button [Transport user groups] fill in the field [User groups] with test001.
    4 Execute and write(copy to clipboard) down the transport number
    5 logon to client 200
    6. call sq03
    7.pick the transport truck
    8. pick radiobutton [Import] and radio button [Transport user groups] fill in the field [Dataset with imports] with the transport number.
    9. Execute
    After that your user group should be in client 200.
    If you want to transport between different systems you have export the transport request first.

    I enabled tracing on a domain gpo and I still get the error when running gpupdate /force .

  • Users & Groups not in Get Info options

    When opening a Get Info window to change Sharing & Permissions, adding a new entry to the list shows maybe 4 options when the OS has dozens of users & groups. Why are standard options like "staff" not showing up?

    I need to enable a folder to be read/write by "staff" for a specific application I am using, and the new GUI isn't allowing me to do that
    What app is it? Why does it require you to do this? What folder is it that you want to modify? What are you trying to achieve? More then likely there is a better way to do it, or may not be needed in the first place.
    Lasso web application. In order to execute file editing commands (read txt files, write them, manipulate uploads, etc), the target file/folder must have, under the POSIX rules of 10.4, either an owner of "lasso" (a user created by the software), or the group of "staff."
    In order to make the source code files themselves easy to administer on the server, I typically have always left owner as the main user I log into the system with, and set group to staff. This is the most convenient configuration for ≤ 10.4 systems.
    In 10.5, after copying files to servers I'm seeing a mixture in the Get Info ACL of {user owner}, admin, and everyone in some systems, and {user owner}, staff, and everyone in other systems. Haven't tracked down why the difference (I suspect preservation of permissions somehow during the copy). Even when staff is in the ACL, it's not a part of the options the GUI presents.
    Anyway, I was trying to take advantage of the ACL in allowing two otherwise separate users/groups to have some shared access, and needed "staff" as a group for these files.
    I didn't just use the chgrp command as I don't yet know the consequence of using POSIX commands on what I want to be ACL controls. So, am trying to do some digging into all that now. I was just thrown by the lack of visibility of all the usual user & groups options I am used to seeing in ≤ 10.4.

    I'm glad to see your response again. I found some interesting information from your recommendation link. At this time, I know that impossible to get users/groups information by using DelegatedAtnProxyManagerControlFacade (ref: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15919_01/wlp.1032/e14255/com/bea/portal/tools/ugm/controls/DelegatedAtnProxyManagerControlFacade.html) interface.
    But, I dont know how to get an instance of an object that implemented this interface. My friend give me a codesnipet that shown the way to get a DelegatedAtnProxyManagerControlFacade by using this codesnipet in a GlobalController:

    Hi,I'm trying to get an user group using VB API.I'm using function ESB_GetUser, I tried the fields type, name, description....Name returns the username and not the group name. AppName and DbName do n ot return any value. However I do not have any error...Any idea? A bug maybe?     Please check the PDK APIs for what APIs are available. Note that a user can belong to more than one group. They can define one of their groups as their default group. There is an API to get the default group for a user.

  • I cannot get onto my Users & Groups

    When I get onto System Preferences, it shows that Users & Groups is grayed out, or won't let me in it.
    Something will pop up, such as "Users & Groups is unavailible to you right now"...
    It was working fine earlier.

  • What is the Advantage of creation of user group through SUGR?

    As per audit requirement I have maintained user groups for different sets of users through SUGR, but I am not getting except differenciating users (based on group), is there any other advantage? Can we assign role to a user group instead of assigning to list of users  or can we do any mass changes to an user group by giving only user group name.

    Apart from maintaining user group for Differnciation purpose you can also take the advantage on the following sectors:
    1. Follow the http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ce/17533e5ff4d064e10000000a114084/content.htm link . From this you will come to know the use of user group in the authorisation area.
    2. User Groups also allow segregation of user maintenance, this is especially useful in a large organisation as you can control who your user admin team can maintain - an example would be giving a team leader the authority to change passwords for users in their team. 
    3. The authorization user group is used in conjunction with S_USER_GROUP authorization object. It allows to create security management authorization by user group. e.g. you can have a local security administrator only able to manage users in his groups, Help-Desk to reset password for all users except users in group SUPER, etc...
