Approach Composite application: sales

Hi everyone,
I'm doing my thesis on Enterprise SOA for college and building a composite application using CE 7.2: BPM, BRM, Web Dynpro JAVA.
I was hoping to get your thoughts on my approach to see if it is realistic.
It will be an application that handles everything around sales, such as the followiing tasks:
- view product details
- view customer details
- make a sales order (and process delivery, billing document and payment).
I am planning to make a proces for each task, and expose them as a webservice later so they can be called from a cockpit Web Dynpro Java application.
Am I thinking of the following approach:
- view product details process
Human Activity where the user enters the id OR name (is input help possible here like in WD4A? so he can filter through a list of all customers and select one. Or does a webservice have to be called with a list of IDs, names and be linked to the InputField ?) Also I have seen this Autocompletion for Web Dynpro Java inputfields.
following by an Automated activity where a web service is called with the product id, and returns all the product detailed information, followed up by another human activity that contains a Web Dynpro Java UI: displaying the product details.
I would plan on making all tasks with the nescecary process context and map everything with the services.
I already have a list of existing Function Modules that I would expose as a web service to use in the application.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Wouter

Hi Wouter,
the scenario looks quite straight forward to be implemented with CE. However, I would rethink the idea of implementing "view product details" and "view customer details" as processes. Processes you typically choose if multiple users are involved or interaction to the backend is required in a structured way. In these two cases, it is more about a single "process step" to view data from the backend. Therefore, it is definitely easier to provide a UI which asks for product id. Once the user has entered the information, the corresponding data can be read from the backend and displayed. Everything will be implemented in WebDynpro. The same of course for the customer details.
Creating a salesorder should be definitely implemented as a process using BPM.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Stefan

  • Need to monitor soa-infra composite application

In our Prod environment, we had an issue with our database and after resolving the issue, I just happened to go into the FMW console and noticed that the soa-infra composite application was in a "Failed" status even though the soa_server1 managed server was still "running."
When I re-started the managed server, the deployed apps all came back successful.
I'm very familiar with using the FMW console and know how to monitor composite applications using the UI.
However, as I was not actively looking at the FMW Console, this brings up the issue...
    1. What is the best practice to setting up monitoring of the soa-infra composite application in my domain?
    2. If this can be done using WLST... does anyone have a sample of doing this?
    3. If the answer is to use snmp... does anyone have a sample?
I am new to using WLST and looking for some assistance.
My environment is SOA Suite 11g PS2 (11.1.1.3) at the moment.
    thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply but if you read closely... the EM console implies that I am actively looking at it. And I have no problems with what the EM console provides but.... I am looking for ways to send an alert or Email notification when the soa-infra application changes to "Failed" state. I've found where I can setup watches and notifications from within the WLS console when a certain MSG ID appears in the log, it can trigger an Email notification be sent and I am pursuing that approach at the moment unless you have a better idea?
    thanks in advance, Phil

  • Composite Application in Adobe AIR?

    Hello All,
We are trying to build a solution in Composite Application that could be deployed in desktops and mobile. We are thinking that such an application would need to be an air package that run seamlessly.
We have a few questions on the Composite Applciation Framework:
    1. How do we package Composite Applications to run in Adobe AIR?
    2. If Composite apps run in AIR, then can we create mobile specific application projects to run in Android, iOS, etc...
    3. Is there any sample which we could go through? IS there a way we can run the current CAF samples in AIR and also on IPad?
    Regards,
    Dheepak

The ability to package Composite Applications in AIR is currently available
as a limited release, so if you are interested you will need to contact your
    sales channel for more information.
The technology includes a library (mosaic-mxml.swc) that contains UI
Components that allow developers to control the loading and placement of
Tiles or entire AXML Applications within the AIR application. There are
    samples and documentation available.
As for mobile, there is work underway to support Mobile AIR applications
    scheduled for an upcoming release.

  • How to integrate BPM with Composite application created in Developer Studio

    Hi,
I want to know what purpose can BPM fulfill in creating a composite application.
I want to execute various business processes like sales order creation etc. through CE. So should I use BPM components and avoid writing my own code logic and creating my own business objects in Developer studio?
Also how can I use BPM components in Developer Studio to achieve this?
Shall I create the Guided procedure model and UI in my composite application and then use BPM for business objects and the integration?
    Plz give me a detail.
    thanks
    Roshan

    Hi Roshan,
you can use BPM or Guided Procedures to implement the business logic of your process.
BPM combines very nice with WebDynpro. There are some guidelines available at SCN here:

  • How to use the same port twice in composite application

    Hi,
I have deployed a Dot Net web service which has 2 operation (say provider1 and provider2) both will accepts and return a string. This Dot Net web service has one port and 2 partner links (one for each operation). I created a client wsdl which also has 2 operations(say client1 and client2). Client wsdl contains one port and a partner link.
I also created 2 different BPEL processes for client1-provider1 and client2-provider2 operations, i want to create a composite application with both this bpel. If I deploy my composite application I can able to see only one connection from client1-provider1. How to add soap binding manully so that I can test both the processes. I am new to web service, need step by step procedure.

  • Exception in calling a web service from a composite application service

    Hi,
I have created a composite application service with external service as a web service. My web service is deployed on localhost as well as I am running my composite application service in localhost. When i try to test the application service, I get the exception
    com.sap.caf.mp.base.exception.InvocationException: Invalid parameters
The exception happens in MPConnector.java 'process' method where I am calling the execute operation on the service.
I have tried testing this through Service Browser as well as creating a callable object on the Application service and testing the callable object.
I am using the NWDS 7.0.06 version
and EP installed on my machine is the Sneak Preview 7.0 sp 7
Will appreciate all help in this regard.
    Thanks,
    Prachi

    Hi Navneet,
I have verified the input/output parameters. They are simple types. All are Strings. Nothing really complex there.
I have the Service Exceptions added already.
And definitely the permissions are disabled but still this isn't working.
Any more clues might be helpful.
    Thanks,

  • Error While executing the SOA Composite application.

    Hi Gurus,
I have recently installed the VM box "oel6-64bit-soasuite-11gr1-ps6-otn.ovi" for Learning the SOA and also gone through the SOA Oracle training so i have the lab exercise documents with me. So i was trying to follow the steps mentioned in the training document for chapter 5 (CCValidate) for credit card Validation in which SOA composite application uses the DB adapter to query the DA and return the Credit card status.
I'm using the JNDI as "eis/DB/SOADemo" and when i looked in the Admin Console i can see the DB adapter status is OK .
    Domain Structure --> dev_soasuite --> Services --> Data Source --> I dont See the eis/DB/SOADemo listed.
also tried to add the eis/DB/SOADemo in data Source but thorws Java exception saying already exists.
Domain Structure --> Environment --> Servers --> View JNDI Tree --> I can see the above mentioend JNDI i.e. eis/DB/SOADemo.
Please let me know what is wrong and how i can get rid of it.
But when i deployed the SOA Composite application on Server and tested the same it is throwing exception as below
ava.lang.Exception: oracle.sysman.emSDK.webservices.wsdlapi.SoapTestException: Client received SOAP Fault from server : Exception occured when binding was invoked. Exception occured during invocation of JCA binding: "JCA Binding execute of Reference operation 'CreditCardDBServiceSelect' failed due to: DBReadInteractionSpec Execute Failed Exception. Query name: [CreditCardDBServiceSelect], Descriptor name: [CreditCardDBService.Creditcards]. Caused by java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist . See root exception for the specific exception. This exception is considered retriable, likely due to a communication failure. To classify it as non-retriable instead add property nonRetriableErrorCodes with value "942" to your deployment descriptor (i.e. weblogic-ra.xml). To auto retry a retriable fault set these composite.xml properties for this invoke: jca.retry.interval, jca.retry.count, and jca.retry.backoff. All properties are integers. ". The invoked JCA adapter raised a resource exception. > Domain Structure --> dev_soasuite --> Services --> Data Source --> I dont See the eis/DB/SOADemo listed.
Do you see jdbc/SOADataSource? If you go to connection pool, what are the connection parameters: host, database, user, etc? I bet the user is not SOADEMO there...
    > When i queried it from the database using the user SOADEMO it returns data
What other parameters are you using to query the database? host, database, etc... Are them the SAME you see on the connection pool above? I bet something is different...
    Hope this helps...

  • Error when trying to create a Composite Application Services project

    Hi Experts,
I am facing a problem while trying to create a project using NWDS 7.0 SP 13
New Development Component Project-> Composite  Application Services
then pressing finish, it throws an error as follows
"Generation can not completed due to one or more error"
    Reason :
    Errors occurred during code generation
    Warning :
    EAR-META-INF generation failed : null
Plz help me to solve this
    Thanks in advance,
    John

    Hi John,
It looks like there might be issue with CAF services related plugins. Check if there are any errors in log file under metadata folder of your workspace.Try deleting the metadata folder & restart the NWDS or start in a new workspace.
I feel if the issue persists, it is a bug & you can raise an OSS ticket.
    Kind Regards,

  • Using Composite Application Framework to deliver global HR applications

    Hello,
I'm new to Composite applications but have experience with Web development and Web services.
Our business case is the following:
    - Working on HR applications
    - The customer is a group made of 3 companies.
    - We have 2 separate back-end system, one global for the group and one dedicated the company
    - Some HR business processes need to be performed on both the global and the company system.  Exemple: Hire of an employee.  Depending on the company the employee will work for, some data needs to be created on the company system and on the global system
I believe this can be achieved with Composite Application Framework.  I guess, front-end application has to be build (using Composite Designer?).  What I don't know is what type of technology is used to build the front-end application?
Finally, the idea behind this is to replace the current solution: multiple interfaces between the group system and the company system.
Thanks for your feedback, any suggestion or tip would be most than welcome!
    Laurent

While I was searching the web for some answers, I found out you can create web based composite applications using web dynpros for Java.
Is it possible to do so with web dynpro for ABAP?  I guess we can build an abap web dynpro application that connects to different web services from different back-ends to retrieve and update data.  Can anyone confirm this?
    Thanks,
    Laurent

  • How to use external libraries jar files in the composite application?

    Hi,
I have some external jars files (which consists of java classes) that I would like to use in my composite application.
I have created a DC with type as external library for the jars.  However, I don't know how to specify the DC to be used in my caf application.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Fui Voon

    Hi,
My jar files consists only java classes and a manifest.mf. The files are compiled using jdk 1.4.2-b28.  Will this be any issue?
It seems that if I ignore the error and continue step 7 which is to do deployment of the ear, the error given is
    Cannot update it.
Caused by: com.sap.engine.library.bytecode.cf.CFException: Invalid constant pool tag, 60 at index 41.
Does anyone know what that mean?
Is there any sample that teach how to deploy external libraries as bundled library?
    Thanks.

  • Problem when Creating Project (Composite Application Services) in NWDS

I've seen a few posts regarding this but I don't feel as if any real solution was given.
I just installed Netweaver Developer Studio (7.0.15) with the current JDK/JRE (1.6.0_07).  When trying to create a new Composite Application Services project within the Studio, using the new project wizard, I get an error: Problem when Creating Project.
I get the EJB Module and Dictionary to create within my navigator with no problems, however, during the creation of the metadata, the error occurs.  I do have the metadata folder appear within the navigator, but nothing in it.  None of the other three items are created.
I have tried the attempt at deleting the metadata folder within my workspace directory and trying again but the same exact result occurs.
Is there any other solution out there for this problem besides attempting to find older versions of NWDS, etc. that are more "stable"?
    Thank you!

    Durga,
    Very simple but effective solution.
I had tried uninstalling / re-installing NWDS with no effect but uninstalling / re-installing NWDS AND all java related products on my machine did work.
Note: For anyone else with this issue in the future.  I installed the Java SDK / JRE 1.4.2_18 with NWDS 7.0.15 in case this is also a possible issue with versions.
    Thanks, Durga!
