  • Group ID is different across the node during 11203 RAC upgrade

    Hi,
DBA is the primary group in all the 3 nodes but with different group ids. cluvrfy shows as the ids are different across the nodes.
Different group ids on 3 nodes will cause any problem during the upgrade ? Please let know I got stuck up in mid of the upgrade.
    Thanks,
    NR

oinstall , the oracle inventory group should be the primary group for oracle (and grid user if you are uing role separation )
Yes , group ID and user IDs must be same across all nodes. This was a pre-requisite even for 10.2 Cluster Installation.

  • Oracle 10g RAC to 11g RAC Upgrade on Solaris

    Hi,
We are planning to do a migration of a 4 Node Oracle 10g RAC on Solaris 9 to 11g with Solaris 10. We'd like know what would be the best path to take. We cannot afford any downtime!
Options: Are these feasible? Which option is best? Any documents links?
    a) Do a rolling upgrade of Oracle from 10g to 11g. Then take down individual nodes and upgrade the Solaris OS from 9 to 10 and bring them up back into the cluster. Is there any known issues taking this path? Is a rolling upgrade like this possible?
    b) Do an upgrade of the Solaris OS from 9 to 10 on each node and then bring them back up? Is this practical? Does Oracle allow different versions of OS running on different nodes?
    c) Use Dataguard with 2 different RAC environments (2 nodes each). How would this work? Is it the only possible way? Any steps please?
    Thanks

first of all i would not change several components (OS, database version) at a time. My recommendation is to make small steps and start with the operating system first. Seconds recommendation is to test and test everything in your dev or test environment prior doing the upgrades in the productive environment. Trust me: You will face problems :-) So you better try it beforehand!

  • 10g RAC upgrade to 11g RAC

How to perform 10g RAC upgrade to 11g with Dataguard in place?
    OS=LINUX
    RDBMS=10.2.0.4
    DG=PHYSICAL STANDBY
    Below is my understanding
    1)Install 11g CRS in NEW_CRS_HOME
    2)Install 11g in NEW_ASM_HOME
    3)Install 11g in NEW_RDBMS_HOME
4)Export the new NEW_ORACLE_HOME and start up the database with startup upgrade.
    5) Run the catupgrade.sql script.
Are there any other steps involve?
In case I have to rollback then how to rollback CRS.

Personally I would use DBUA instead of catupgrade.sql, but make sure you follow the upgrade documentation for pre-checks etc. You will also need to use netca to recreate the sqlnet listeners in the 11g homes and register with 11g CRS.
CRS is generally fairly quick to re-install and re-register databases, and this is cleaner than trying to restore OCR and VOTE disks etc. If you prefer to rollback be sure you backup the OCR and VOTE disks (e.g use dd), backup /etc/oracle, CRS_HOME, /etc/init* scripts etc.
The dataguard standby database should roll forward through the upgrade, but you will need to manually register the standby with 11gCRS. Make sure you have your DB and Log create_file_dest's set, as well as standby_file_management=auto. Personally I would manually recover the standby after the upgrade in case I need to use it to fallback.

  • Oracle 10g multi node installation

    Hi,
Multi node installation for Oracle 10g Appl Server
    - Node A: Install core business Database server.
    - Node B: Install Application Server Infrastructure (OID, repository database).
    - Node C: Install Application server middle tier (forms, reports, portal, discoverer, java) at node C. must specify the OID server (node B). And configurre tnsnames to access database server (node A).
steps for this. Any doc or link
    Thanking you
    regards,

    As simple as you mentioned.
1.- Install db in node A
2.- Install Infra in node B, you will get a servername and port for OID (look on $OH/install/portlist.ini to get it), and the password, usually the same as for the System and Sys users for the repository.
3.- Install Apps in node C, even if you install infra and apps in same node, the installer will always promp for the OID server name and port wich I mentioned earlier.
4.- Configure node C tnsnames to access node A
    Hope this helps
    Greetings.

  • Difference between Oracle 11i Apps DBA & Oracle Application server 10g DBA

    Hi All....
can anyone explain me the *"Difference between Oracle 11i Apps DBA & Oracle Application server 10g DBA"*
Can Oracle 11i Apps DBA work in a Oracle Application server 10g DBA environment.
    Regards,

Oracle Apps is a suite of financial applications.
Oracle Application server is Oracle's scaled up implementation of Apache or Weblogic or similar products.
While Oracle Apps might use Oracle Application Server as middleware, Oracle Apps is much, much more than Oracle Application Server.
An Oracle Apps DBA is primarily busy on the functional side, and with implementing an ongoing stream of patches ;)
The two functions have almost nothing in common.

  • Private Interconnect: Should any nodes other than RAC nodes have one?

The contractors that set up our four-node production 10g RAC (and a standalone development server) also assigned private interconnect addresses to 2 Apache/ApEx servers and a standalone development database server.
There are service names in the tnsnames.ora on all servers in our infrastructure referencing these private interconnects- even the non-rac member servers. The nics on these servers are not bound for failover with the nics bound to the public/VIP addresses. These nics are isolated on their own switch.
Could this configuration be related to lost heartbeats or voting disk errors? We experience rac node expulsions and even arbitrary bounces (reboots!) of all the rac nodes.

I do not have access to the contractors. . . .can only look at what they have left behind and try to figure out their intention. . .
I am reading the Ault/Tumha book Oracle 10g Grid and Real Application Clusters and looking through our own settings and config files and learning srvctl and crsctl commands from their examples. Also googling and OTN searching through the library full of documentation. . .
I still have yet to figure out if the private interconnect spoken about so frequently in cluster configuration documents are the binding to the set of node.vip address specifications in the tnsnames.ora (bound the the first eth adaptor along with the public ip addresses for the nodes) or the binding on the second eth adaptor to the node.prv addresses not found in the local pfile, in the tnsnames.ora, or the listener.ora (but found at the operating system level in the ifconfig). If the node.prv addresses are not the private interconnect then can anyone tell me that they are for?

  • How to migrate DB from single node 10gR2 to RAC 11gR2 on diff platform?

How to migrate DB from single node 10gR2 to RAC 11gR2 on different platform with possible minimum downtime? We have a situation of upgrade/migrate oracle 10gR2 single instance DB to 2-node RAC 11gR. The source OS is Solaris 10 on SPARC and the target OS is Linux (the target servers could be changed to Solaris 11 x86 if needed). What is the best solution on that?
    Thanks,

Technically, can do the following for upgrading and migration?
    1. Create 11gR2 oracle home on the same server and upgrade the database from 10gR2 to 11gR2 by running conversion (2 hour down time?)
    2. Set up Heterogeneous Primary and Physical Standbys by RMAN. The standby is the RAC with ASM. No need down time. (from Solaris Space to Linux - this may be a problem)
    3. At the cutoff time, activate the standby DB from the RAC ASM.
If feasible, do we have some detail guild line for each step?

  • RAC upgradation 9i to 11g R2

    Hi,
I have been given the requirement to migrate a 9i RAC 3 node database( 9i cluster) to 11g R2 RAC database iam looking for a document or steps to do this activity. any help on this is highly appreciated.
should I upgrade the cluster first and then upgrade each node one by one or I should upgrade the cluster and upgrade all the home in one go ?
    Thanks,
    Satish Abraham.J

    Hi,
Since you are using RAC database , you need to upgrade Clusterware (11.2.0.3) first , then RAC database upgrade(11.2.0.3).
For RAC Upgrade to 11.2.0.3 we have following options/upgrade_methods available:-
    +1.Manual Upgrade (using catupgrd.sql script)+
You have to do this in two steps:-
    9.2.0.3 ---->9.2.0.8 ----> 11.2.0.3
+2. Using DBUA (Database Upgrade Assistant)+
    +3. Export / Import+
If you have MOS access, then you can refer following Note:-

  • Deinstalling 10g 1 and installing 10g 2

    Windows 2000 SP4
I deinstalled 10g version 1 and installed 10g 2, but I did not see the database I had created using version 1. I uninstalled 10g 2 and reinstalled 10g 1 but no dice.
The database files, control files, directories and data all seem to be there. I tried the utilities to upgrade but they do not "see" the database. The services for the instance are not there anymore.
How do I get my instance and database back?
