Apps are Crashing. It started with The Daily, now it happens repeatedly with other apps. Any fixes?

Try these:
1) Double-tap the home button and press an icon at the bottom until the minus sign appears. THen touch the minus sign on all the icons to kill the apps.
2) Then, press and hold the home and power buttons for 10 seconds, until the apple appears. Allow the ipad to restart.
If the problem persists, you may need to restore the ipad from within the computer's itunes program.

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have been unable to sync devices (specifically ipad mini and iphone 4s) to my MId 2013 Imac . They wil rapidly connect and disconnect, and I'm unable to do anything with the device. This happens with both USB ports.  Any suggestions?
MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.9.1)

Obviously, syncing an iOS device with iTunes over USB is still supported in Mavericks. Calendar and contact syncing with iTunes is no longer supported. That has nothing to do with your problem.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Many apps are crashing on start

My co-worker on an iMac running 10.6.8 today started having an issue where many apps are crashing on startup. They all have this stack trace in Thread 0, the thread that crashed:

I've tried creating a new user on the machine and the crash still happens. Verify Disk in Disk Utility showed no problems. In desperation I even tried repairing disk permissions but, as expected, that didn't help.
    Apps that crash:
    Adobe CS4 apps
    Office 2008 apps
    iPhoto 6.1.8
    Graphic Converter 7.2
    iMovie 8.0.6
    QuickTime Player 7.6.3
    LabVIEW 9.0.1
    Three different programs I wrote
    HP Scan 1.1.1
    Remote Desktop Connectrion 1.0.1
    Apps that don't crash:
Safari 5.1.7 (although it has errors displaying some web pages including apple.com but not yahoo.com)
    Mail 4.6
    Screen Sharing 1.1.1
    iCal 4.0.4
    Preview 5.0.3
    QuickTime Player 10.0
    System Preferences 7.0
    TextEdit 1.6
    Dictionary 2.1.3
    Terminal 2.1.2
    Gimp 2.6
    Disk Utility 11.5.2
So the problem isn't specific to non-Apple apps but almost all of the apps that don't crash are Apple apps. The only non-Apple app that doesn't crash is Gimp, which isn't even an OS X app.
Yesterday he installed iTunes 10.7 and Security Update 2012-004. He installed them at noon and everything worked for the rest of the day.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, I gave up and restored from a Time Machine backup from yesterday morning. Everything is working fine now. I am reinstalling iTunes 10.7 and Security Update 2012-004 to see what happens.

  • Updated Safari, now most apps are crashing at start-up

So I updated Safari on Friday, and I was unable to get it to run. It would always crash on start up, Since then I have 1 by 1 losing my other Apps. iWeb,Software Update, both crash on start-up, and in my System Prefernces my .mac and Network prefernces crash as well.
I have never been able to repair permissions since I upgraded to Leopard. I have however repaired permissions while booting up on a connecting firewire drive with 10.3, but it did not help. I have chucked all my preferences for the offending apps as well....what is next?
    Cheers
    -Allan

It sounds as if there are some repairs needed. If the Repair Permissions function has never worked, then something is awry and needs repair. When you install other applications on top, you could be adding to the instability and it sounds as if Safari has tipped the balance: now they are all going haywire.
I would consider first running the Repair Disk utility from the grey install disk; secondly applying (or even reapplying) the OS X 10.5.2 Combo update -- a heavy download I know, but it may be worthwhile; and running a stronger utility, like Disk Warrior (always a good standby).

  • After updating to 10.8.2 many of my apps are crashing immediately, including iPhoto, MS Office 2008, Chrome and many others.

I updated from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2 and after restarting lots of apps just crash immediately upon opening, including:
    iPhoto
    Chrome
    Eclipse
    PgAdmin
    MS Office
    Pandora
etc the list goes on and on.
    Apps that work:
    Safari
    Mail
    FireFox
    iTunes
    Calendar
    App Store
Is anyone else having this type of problem?  How do I go back to 10.8.1?

I have the same problem as abudya. When I try to launch iTunes, it crashes right away. I get a message saying "iTunes quit unexpectantly"  I will post the entire message  below. I restarted the computer in safe mode, and tried to launch iTunes. It did not open. I restarted the Mac in normal function, and iTunes still didn't work.
    Can you help?
My Mac is: Mac OS X 10.6.8

  • All 3rd party apps are crashing on startup of the app even after a restore

My iPhone was working perfectly fine yesterday before I updated the weather.com application over wifi, ever since then none of my 3rd party apps will open on the iphone. The standard apple apps i.e. weather, email, calculator, etc. all open fine.
I have done a reset, a hard reset and a full restore from a backup and still it is not working properly. Any ideas on what to do from here?

  • When I put my phone on to charge, the batter quickly went to 1%. Down from 30%. When I pulled the phone off the charger to take a look at it, it died. Now it will not start. Anyone else have this happen to them? Any fix it, tips?

When I went to put my iPhone 4s on the charger it had 30% power. It quickly drained to 1% when hooked up to the charger. I took it off the charger to see what was going on and it quickly died. Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, how did you rectify?

    Hey saandyy,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You can try to restart the iPhone to exit recovery mode.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

Well, my two-month-old MBP has no qualms about booting from a no-name external USB HD I put together...
Given that is is a common point of failure, I would imagine a large Apple Store should keep a stock of HD's on hand.
Now since you're a bit desperate and the genie pops up til Saturday and you seem to be the enterprising kind, let's try an experiment: if you have room enough in the external HD and assuming it isn't a Time Machine volume, why don't you plug it in, stick the Install CD and see if the installer lets you select the external drive as the install target. If you can install Leopard on it, on top of the backup without reformatting, and the Mac can boot from the drive afterwards, at least you would have some functionality restored and would be able to pull your stuff from the internal HD. Apple says booting from USB drives is not supported but that does not equate to not possible; some brands do work. Risks? Always. You can always lose your backup. Like I said, a challenge for an enterprising gal....
Next time around, consider having a bootable external clone at hand for rainy days. I keep three myself...
P.S. Since I'll be in the Dallas-FW area in late June, I can volunteer with the confetti....

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • Adobe and Microsoft apps are crashing. iWork colors are corrupt.

I'm not sure if this is due to the Snow Leopard upgrade or because I had a HDD meltdown and restored from a time machine backup.
Every other app that I open is crashing. Microsoft Excel and Adobe Photoshop are crashing at will (in the background) and often when trying to save a file. Photoshop was giving me a license error but I resolved that with various hacks found online including deleting the FLEXnet folder.
iWork apps don't show proper colors with fonts, shapes, cell fills, etc. Most colors are showing as white. Blue is really the only color that is visible though it's not the correct blue.
Of course this is all on the eve of me having to finish a project onsite 1,000 miles from home. I'm pretty much stuck without the ability to do ANY work here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair this by re-applying the10.6.1 stand alone update

  • Many app are crashing....if I restore to orignal settings will that solve my

Many of my app are crashing....if I restore to original settings will this solve the problem?  I've synced with my desktop computer.....so, after "restore" I can then sync and reinstall without loosing stuff?

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • App store and Mail app are crashing in my mac air 10.9.5

All my apps are crashing and i am not able to open any of them . App store for Software update and Mail app, Photos app are all crashing. I have OS X 10.9.5 in my system. I removed Parallels trail version and also Clean My Mac app, Still i have the issue,Please help me to resolve the issue,

"CleanMyMac" purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Apps are crashing and a lot more

I got my my ipad in June and it has never given me a problem. Now after the new update with IOS 4.2 all apps crash after opening, ipad randomly restarts. I have restored my ipad from beginning and also restore it from stratch. I do not know what to do now. can someone please give me and idea on what to do to fix this.

which apps are crashing? a lot of 3rd party developers haven't had a chance to update their apps yet. If you want to know if others are experiencing the same problem, go to iTunes app or iTunes store on desktop --> search for the app and then look at Reviews or Ratings section or whatever and see if other users are running into the same issues.
