Apps close fast, battery drain, warm phone, wifi...the issues go on

For the last couple of weeks, by iPhone 4S has been running warm no matter where I keep it.  In addition, when I open an app, it may or may not open.  When it does open, it quickly closes almost immediately.  It is like trying to beat the clock to type a text or use any features.  My iPhone will also not hold the battery charge.  It drains to 'dead' within a few hours, if that.  The Wifi connection is spotty, too.  Recently relocating from California to South Korea, I can use Wifi in my neighborhood, but when traveling to another town, it works intermittenly.  When I try to sync my phone to my laptop, it often does not complete a sync, but will restart if I barely touch the phone when it is trying to sync. And, somehow, since the new OS install, my app store on my phone is all in Korean.  Not sure how to change this back to English.  Everything else on my phone is in English.  I have to go into my iTunes on my computer to download any of the appupdates since this is stil in English.  My settings are all set to English.  I have barely had this iPhone for one year, receiving it in early October, 2011.
Whille I was briefly home in the States over the last 6 months, I visited the Apple stores quite often as there are many glitches when you are using a pc laptop with Outlook 2010 & trying to perfectly sync with the iPhone.  I hope soon to invest in a Mac.  But until then....
This battery/app issue has happened in the not so distant past.  Returning to the Apple store, the Apple expert did end up saving all my information, erasing my phone & reinstalling everything.  It took forever & I lost all of my settings & personalized stored data in my apps.  I really hope there is another solution to my current crisis.
I hope to hear from you soon as this situation is quite frustrating.
Also, can I Skype with Apple support?  A phone call costs $2.29 a minute (no matter who calls first).  Besides, I am not sure my phone will hold a conversation right now.
BTW, I did install the new OS recently, too.
Thank you for getting back to me asap...

  • Iphone 4 Phone App White Screen/Battery Draining Fast

    I have an iPhone 4 with the most recent version of the software.  For the second time in about 5 weeks, my phone app has completely stopped working and only shows a white screen when entering.  I can still receive calls however.  The only way I could fix it before was a complete system restore, which was horrible.  My battery drains really quickly and the iphone gets really hot.  The system restore seemed to fix it for a few weeks last time.  I tried hard resets, soft resets, and everything in between. A friend of mine had the same issue with his phone.
    Any ideas?

    I did some research.  I deleted my exchange account from work and it appeared to have fixed the problem.

  • Location services, Celular data, Usage and Stand by & fast battery drain on iOS 4.3.5

    Hi all,
    I've been experiencing some trouble with fast battery drain since I have updated to iOS 4.3.5, never experienced it before. I've spent some time reading out through the web, including the Apple Discussion forums, and never found anything conclusive that could lead me to a solution. With some hints from many places and some particular obstination for fixing the problem, I've managed to find a solution. I was willing to share this here just to see if anyone else had the same problem and try to figure out wheter this is a bug or just an ignorant user like me
    This is the configuration and symptoms I had for my iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.3.5 (didn' happen until 4.3.4):
    Location services enabled, with several apps been allowed to use it;
    Celular data (and 3G) turned off;
    Usage and Stand by times reported always equal since last charge (really weird, although other have already reported this);
    Cell phone overheated;
    Battery drain really fast, dropping from 100% to 50% in about four to five hours with almost no use at all.
    The following steps solved my problem:
    Close all applications to make sure nothing is running in the background;
    Reset statistics in order to observe correctly the celular data traffic;
    Make sure you have access to the internet over Wifi;
    Turn on Celular data and 3G for a short time (2 minutes should be enough). Observe celular data exchange stats: for me it was 3Kb download and 2Kb uploaded, although no application was running in the background (and there was also no need for celular data, since I was connected over Wifi);
    Turn off Celular data and 3G.
    Turn off (completelly!) Location services;
    No more overheating, usage and stand by being reported equal nor battery fast drain noticed: everything was back to normal.
    I have come to the following conclusions: it seems that Location services causes problems with Celular data turned off. I'm not sure whether Location services should work at all with Celular data turned off, but I also believe it doesn't give it the right to drain my battery so fast . I'd like to here from others just to see if anyone has experienced a similar thing and if the solution above helped fixed it. It would be interest if we could confirm this is indeed a bug in iOS 4.3.5.
    Best regards,
    Adriano

    Some further testing and observation lead me to new conclusions. I looks like the problem is not actually related to Location services, but to some buggy application trying to access data when it's not available at all. Even closing all apps, the problem doesn't go away untill Celular data is enabled (and then disabled again).
    I still believe this shouldn't be the regular behaviour.

  • Iphone 6 fast battery drain IOS 8.1.2 even on standby

    I have a new iphone 6 64Gb setup as a new phone, already with IOS 8.1.2 installed.  I have experienced really fast battery drain all the time.
    I have tried with location services disabled,
    push disabled,
    background app refresh disabled
    siri off
    Icloud Keychain off
    Itunes & App store updates OFF, Use cellular data OFF
    and is still draining battery very fast.  My previous iphone 5 could get from 6.30am to 7pm on one charge, this iphone 6 is on 30% by 3pm.  The main apps I use are Mailbox, safari, waze , tunein and phone and ALL of these apps show as the main "battery usage" items.  Basically having any app open with the screen on causes the battery % to drop before your eyes.  I have also experienced battery drain on standby overnight.  The drain is so fast that using waze for a 45 minute journey causes 30% drop
    Basically it is unusable as a smart phone without having a charger connected all the time.  Please can someone help?
    thanks
    Dave

    I had this same problem.  Phone draining brand new, extremely fast.  Usage and standby times in the battery usage meter have been nearly identical after 4 or 5 hours off the charger.
    Went to Genius Bar two weeks ago, they noticed the battery drain in their test but said that nothing else looked unusual (battery fine, no major software issues, etc) and sent me on my way.
    The problem continued, last weekend, did a full reset of the phone and set up as a new phone.  Logged in using my AppleID at the setup and made sure to use the @icloud email address.  I had previously used my first AppleID--a gmail account--from many years ago.  The accounts were linked (gmail ID, linked to @icloud, @me, @mac address from later setups).
    My problem was solved--went two days without charging, battery life was amazing, until today, when after the phone was acting odd, powered off then turned back on--battery drain began immediately and usage and standby levels are the same.  I left the phone untouched for the last hour and "usage" went up and hour, as did stand-by.
    For reference--no push email, fetch at 30 minutes, minimal location services on, background app refresh off, automatic update off, parallax off, etc. I have done every "trick" possible to improve battery life (some that make the phone useless).
    iCloud seems to be the problem--can't figure out what part of iCloud is the culprit though.
    Have another GB appointment tomorrow.  Hopefully will get a more thorough diagnosis of the problem.  Hopefully report back a solution.

    Thank you for reaching out to us. We certainly know the importance of being able to know what options are available with your device. With apps on devices, thoses are specific to the phone itself, so there is no open forum to view what apps are downloaded. The only option would be to physically review from the phone, or if you have the same Apple ID you can log into it and view from there. Please let us know if you need anymore assistance.

    Try this:
    Go into Power Manager, choose the Logging profile.
    Go into Windows' Power Options, choose a different profile, then switch back to the Logging profile.
    See if this clears any contradiction between the two.

  • Upgrade to OS4.1 causes fast battery drain with WiFi on

    I've just upgraded the software on my 3G Pod to 4.1, only to find that it has led to a much quicker battery drain with the WiFi on. Is there a fix for this or can I revert to the previous OS?

    Thanks llaass, but the discussion that you direct me to does not really address the issue of why a very recent upgrade should make such a significant difference. I had already realised that turning off WiFi makes a difference. Perhaps my question should have been addressed to Apple, since it appears that it is their so called 'upgrade' that has led to a deterioration.
    I'm using iOS 4.1 on my iPod Touch 3 gen with no battery drain problem. This suggests that there is another factor at play which must be present to provoke this problem between the iPod and iOS (i.e., a specific App, a router type, or ?).

  • 4.2 occasional rapid battery discharge warm phone

    (I have had this 3GS phone 32 GB 4.2.1 (8C148a) since last spring and since the latest update I have had it discharge itself very quickly and be quite warm to the touch twice the first time was about a week after 4.2 was on itunes to update and I did all the things recommended in the FAQ (no nee to restart as it was so fully dead it did that by it self when plugged in after a few min but re update and restore etc it was ok till today when it did it again now both times this was when using just wifi 4 or5 balls from ATT all day and less than 5 min of actual phone usage and perhaps 5 min of app usage push and blue tooth are off. phone went from 100% to 0 in about 4 hours I normally go from 100% to 75% or 50% over 12 hours depending on usage that day
    I see plenty of reports of this sort of thing in this forum from last year but nothing much recent and no real fixes other than the standard restart and restore is this just an endemic problem on the 3GS that we have to live with?

    There are several other threads out here about battery drain issues. Please look around...If you try all these other suggestions and are still having drain issues, restore as a new phone, and don't add anything back yet. Just browse web, youtube, maps, txt, etc for a while, as well as standby...Let it go for as long as possible, and see how your battery holds up. If it's not ok at this point, then do a DFU mode restore. Google around for instructions on that...If that still doesn't fix it, then I'd say it's a trip to the Apple store for you...If this fixes the issue, then add back ONLY 1 thing at a time. Mail first usually, and watch for a while to see if it drains again. If not, proceed to next item(apps 1 at a time). After each added item, watch for a while to see if it drains ok. Should be able to narrow it down to the culprit. I know this takes quite a while to accomplish, so patience is needed, but as has been previously stated, it's usually bad or corrupted data in a backup that causes this...I had posted in another thread of same issues here. I was fine after the 4.2.1 update for quite a while(enjoying almost 3.1.3 battery life), then for reasons yet to be determined, mine started draining. Had this same issue with 4.0 update...I went into Settings where the Tethering item is located, and it was constantly clocking on that. Usually it clocks for a few seconds, then says Setup Tethering. Well mine was stuck there, so i think it was constantly using something. A hard reset cleared it, but I still have to try and figure out why it did that. I just don't have the time right now. I will most likely try as restore as new phone at some point. Apple did something though, because like I said, I'm enjoying almost 3.1.3 battery life now. I think it may have to do with cell radio, as I've seen something about NCFD being supported now in 4.2.

  • HTC Rezound fast battery drain

    I've had my new Rezound for a few days and am astonished at how fast the battery drains.

    From the home screen, go into the settings, select the "Power" settings, tap the "Power Mode" setting, and select/tap "Normal" when the dialog box comes up.  I have found that Normal power mode is just as fast as the High Performance mode that is default on new Rezounds.
    I think Normal mode shuts off the WiFi if you are not using it for a while, and you may see a screen about that for a few seconds when you wake the phone up.  That is the only difference, aside from greatly extended battery life, that I have found.  The phone is still just as fast/snappy.
    If you want really big power savings, you can select the Economy mode.  But I hear that it slows the phone down a bit.  It gives a huge increase in battery life, though.

  • Issues with newest update, battery draining quickly, phone very hot

    I recently updated my IOS to the newest edition. I do not know much about the techonological aspects of the phone and how it works, but I do know how to reboot the phone, reset the phone and close out all the applications so that there is no software running in the background.
    Since updating the phone, I have experienced so many problems. The most unsettling one is that the phone is very very hot to the touch while it is syncing to my itunes and while it is charging.
    I am not sure what is going on in the background, but currently I am in the process of studying for final exams and I don't really want to drive all the way out to see the Apple geniuses if it is something that I could possibly fix at home.
    Also the battery is draining quickly as a result of whatever application is running in the background. I have turned my email off from push, it is now manual. I have also pretty much changed the setting of all the applications that use location or push for notifications because I am not sure what is making the phone run hot.
    Any feedback would be amazing!
    thanks

    when you have a heating issue there isnt much you can really do.
    To be honest these are the solutions that may or may not work.
    First thing I would try is rebooting the phone by holding the sleep/wake button and home button for 15 seconds until you see the white apple logo.
    If that doesn't work I would restore from backup. If that doesn't work I would restore as new. If all else fails take it to your closest apple store they may replace the phone for a working one..

  • Incredible Battery Drain While Phone is OFF

    I'm on my third Sprint Pre right now and thought I finally found some rock-solid hardware.  Sadly, there's this strange problem affecting the battery of my phone.  When the phone is on, the battery operates like normal.  When I turn the phone off at night, I get the low battery symbol the next morning... it's draining like crazy (I've turned it off with close to a full charge too).
    To give you a comparison, while the phone was on and in standby for five or so hours, the battery merely dropped 2% or so.  While off for less than an hour, I had a battery drain of ~10%!
    So I ran a little test.  I shut off the phone and then replaced the battery.  No problems the next morning.  Thought the problem was resolved.  Turned the phone off the next night and the following morning I'm greeted with the low battery signal again.
    My theory (I think it's the only plausible one) is that the phone is not shutting off completely and something continues to run therefore draining my battery.  Hence removing the battery while it's "off" and then placing it back in completely turned the phone off resulting in no battery drainage.
    Is there a solution to this problem without resorting to another exchange (I highly doubt it)?  Doctoring didn't help by the way.  Each refurbed unit I got fixed one problem and added others.  Aside from this battery problem and some minor light leakage, this unit is quite solid.  I love webOS, but the shoddy refurb quality is giving me a headache...
    -UPDATE-
    Strangely enough, both batteries I tested were defective.  What are the odds?  Sprint replaced the battery and now all is well.

    My theory (I think it's the only plausible one) is that the phone is not shutting off completely and something continues to run therefore draining my battery.  Hence removing the battery while it's "off" and then placing it back in completely turned the phone off resulting in no battery drainage.
    My battery was driving draining too which was really annoying.  I use it extensively to make Long Distance business calls and it would die after 20 minutes or so.  I didn't try taking it out when the phone was off but I did get a free replacement so I think there must have been a batch of defective batteries. london

  • Service Battery appeared again along with fast battery drain on Mavericks 10.9.4 with iTunes 11.3

    I upgraded to Mavericks on my MacBook Pro about a month ago and bluetooth connection problems with my Bose Mini Soundlink and UE Boom were resolved but everything else went haywire from the dreaded Service Battery message, email, to wifi issues. After a few days of hair pulling and looking for solutions, the problems just went away, and everything went fine again. Two days ago iTunes came out with an update and I installed it. I first noticed the battery lost capacity from 87% down to 74% with just 299 cycles on it. Now the Service Battery warning is back and the battery doesn't seem to last that long anymore. I've removed Google Chrome, done SMC reset, battery reset, and the whole kit and caboodle of tricks from forums but none worked. I tried removing iTunes but I can't. I have a lurking idea this is a software issue. Any tricks out there to get this back into shape?
