Apps closing on their own

For about a week now my iPhone 3GS will close apps while I'm using them. It happens to facebook and angry birds more than anything else. I have removed several apps but nothing is helping. I have 1.5GB free. My software is updated. Can't think of anything else to do.

Basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

The two most likely culprits would be a faulty cable/charging block or a bad digitizer. Try charging the device with a different charger and cable. If the problem goes away, then the problem is with your charger. If it does not, try the basics of resetting, restoriing from back up, restoring as new. If you still have the problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store for evaluation.

  • Since upgrading my iphone 4 to IOS6, apps keep opening and closing on their own

Since upgrading my iphone 4 to IOS6, apps keep opening and closing on their own and the wrong ones open when another is pressed. I've tried a full reset but still the same thing...HELP PLEASE :-(

I'm not familiar with the Belkin cover, but you could try removing the cover and reboot the iPad and see how that goes.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    No.

  • Why do apps open on their own?

I have a Mac Mini with Mountain LIon.
Almsot daily one or two apps or more will boot up on their own.
    Why?

    Hi,
    An Example.
At Computer Start Up and background support app for the Messages and FaceTime Apps called IMAgent also starts up.
This "Listens" for Off Line Messages if you have set Messages up for iMessages, AIM and some Jabber Servers.
It also "Listens" for calls to the ID you are using in FaceTime.
That is to say that you should have already set up these apps.
If FaceTime is set to On in the Preferences but is not Started up then an Off Line call can start up the app.
    It is similar in Messages
As Indicated the FaceTime app can be set to Off.
The Messages App as a setting in Messages Menu > Preferences > General Section about "When I Quit, Set the Status to Off Line"  when this box is ticked IMAgent will not start up the app with Off Line Messages.
As you say "Almost Daily" I an presuming that this is not on Computer Start Up ?
if that is happening it it set in System Preferences > Users and Groups > Your account > Login Items.

  • Music apps start on their own

I had several music programs installed. Periodically one would start on its own. Random song. I have no buttons on my desktop to start them. Music apps would start when phone sitting by itself or when using the phone in various ways. I deleted all the music apps but the default music ager is now opening in its place.
I notice when using bluetooth it starts everytime when the bluetooth is either connected or disconnected as well as when I hang up a phonecall used through bluetooth.
I went into default music player in settings and tried clearing its cache but clear cache button is ghosted.
    Any ideas?

I know that Music APPS can do this from time to time when Bluetooth headsets are involved. e.g., WinAmp had this issue at 1 time whereby it would "take over" any Bluetooth connection so that pressing the PLAY button on my headset would start my last WinAmp song -- even though I was listening to another APP at the time - like TuneIn Radio or iHeartRadio. This resulted in both playing at the same time.
Maybe take a look at which Music APP you have installed and uninstall it and test for a few days?  (which one(s) did you install?)

  • Apps launching on their own

Today while using Net News Wire, the app crashed, and the Scrabble app launched all by itself. Has anyone else experienced this type of behavior? I can see an app crashing from time to time, but to have another one launch on its own is very weird.

I think following the software troubleshooting path would allow you to eliminate software as a problem.  If you eliminate that, then it would have to be some hardware issue. Not sure if your phone is still under warranty, but if you can demonstrate that you've done all of the software troubleshooting you can, and you are still under warranty, you could get a replacement phone at the Genius bar.

  • X11 Windows Closing On Their Own

Every once and a while when I am running codes in multiple X11 windows, one of them will close itself with being commanded to. I'm at a loss as to why this would be occuring. I am using the X11 window version XQuartz 2.3.0 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple5). Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
    Thanks

I just had another window close on its own. It happened right after I closed one of the windows by clicking on the red x at the top left of the window. I checked the system.log file and this is what I found:

  • Ipad 3 apps opening / closing / typing on their own

    Hi,
We purchased an iPad 3 today.
It went through the set up process fine. We switched it off  for about 20 minutes after calling Telstra to activate the sim card. When we switched it back on, apps began opening / closing / typing furiously all by themselves. Just sitting on the table completely untouched it would fire through apps.
We have turned it off/on. We have reset it. We have just left it alone. But as soon as the screen is unlocked the same thing keeps happening. It has slowed down and is not happening at the rapid speed it was, but apps continue to open and type gibberish on their own accord. Also, we have noticed that some of the 'keys' on the keypad don't respond, though we haven't done a lot of typing because as soon as you start you get overridden by whatever crazy thing the other apps are doing.
    Extremely disappointing and frusterating.
Is this a glitch in the new iPad? Do we need to return it?
    Many thanks for your advice.

You said that you reset it ..... But like this?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons
If you tried that and it is still acting up, have you restore the iOS software yet?
If you have done the reboot and restored the software, I would return it. That is certainly not normal behavior. Personally, I would be inclined to return it no matter what. I would hate to think that this could occur again on a brand new device.

  • Having issues with my MacBook. Even when the internet is disconnected, apps are still closing and opening on their own. I sometimes do not have control over my cursor.....any suggestions?

Having issues with my MacBook. Even when the internet is disconnected, apps are still closing and opening on their own. I sometimes do not have control over my cursor.....any suggestions?

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not be apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    3. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    6. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    7. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and the unit needs to be serviced or replaced.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • When one or more family members who have been sharing one iTunes account wants to create their own iTunes account can they each upload the music/apps from the shared iTunes on their devices to the new iTunes account?

When one or more family members who have been sharing one iTunes account wants to create their own iTunes account can they each upload the music/apps from the shared iTunes on their devices to the new iTunes account?

Yes. I would clarify your statement about the "shared" iTunes Library though. If you want each iOS device to have its own music library, you should create separate user accounts for them. Read:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own? If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps? How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two? also I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own?
Yes, it is possible. 1 apple ID can be associated with up to 10 devices.
If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps?
    Yes, all purchases are non-transferable.
How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two?
Every device associated with one apple ID through Find my iPhone is tied to that Apple ID; Find my iPhone will work in the same way with up to ten devices associated with one apple ID. You cannot enable Find my iPhone for one device across two apple IDs
I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?
If you have authorized a computer with the old apple ID, you can transfer old media purchased through the old to other devices via iTunes. This doesn't mean the media purchases through the old apple ID it transferred to the new account. If you plan to make future purchases and don't wish to share them with others, make your own apple ID.

My ipad 4 dropped off my lap.  The glass is intact but now all the apps open and close randomly on their own.  I tried to reboot it and it didnt workd.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

THANKS for your prompt reply  Bluetooth is off in my laptop and IPhone.. and in fact the reset is the only thing that can make it back to normal. But for a lil while. I wonder if it is the touch, or the home botton... both things are very expensive to replace, so I wouldn't like to spend $$ and continue having the prob.....
