Apps Crashing Frequently

I'll start off by telling you about the system that is ailing me. It is a Power Mac G4 Dual 867, with 1.75 GB RAM, and 160 GB boot drive (100GB Free). It is running 10.4.5, and shortly after this update it has been a nightmare to work on this machine. Apps will just randomly crash, sometimes immediately upon opening them, sometimes after I've been using them for awhile. I didn't have these problem before this update - and I didn't have them immediately after the update - in fact the system ran great for the first couple of weeks, like it had a new lease on life - then this started happening.
It doesn't seem to be linked to one particular app to type of app either, it happens quite frequently with Safari, Mail, iCal - but also with Photoshop, Illustrator, & InDesign.
Here are the steps that I've taken myself already to try and rectify the problem. I've repaired permissions (multiple times), I've run DiskWarrior and reset PRAM. Usually when I'm having little issues one of these steps will clear things up - but not this time.
I've not recently installed any new apps - no new fonts, not disabled any fonts, nothing that I can think of to pin-point the problem. And like I said - things ran really snappy after the 10.4.5 update - until the past week or so.
I've got the identical setup on my Powerbook and it runs like a dream. Is it possible that I'm looking at some sort of hardware failure here?
Any insight or help is much appreciated. Thanks in adavance!

  • Screen flickering after iOS 6.1 update and some apps crashing frequently on my iPhone 4 .. I didn't have this in 6.0.1 back when people complained about it

hello, I had no keyboard flickering issues back when my iPhone 4 was on iOS 6.0.1 then I updated to 6.1 yesterday and now I have apps crashing frequently and keyboard flickering? anyone else having the same issue after the update? any known solution?

I'm having the same issue on my iPhone 4 since yesterday when I updated to iOS 6.1 from 5.1.1.
After about an hour after the upgrade, it crashed/rebooted itself and went completely white/grey screen with a brighter white line in the middle. My power/sleep button was broke already, so I couldn't do anything on it. I left it to drain the battery for about 6 hours.  During that time, the edges around the white/grey screen became darker and darker like burn-in effect. After it ran out of the battery, I connected the phone to the PC through USB and iTunes let me restore it to iOS 6.1 firmware I downloaded before.
The restore was successful, but the entire screen keeps flickering rapidly, not just a part of the screen.
Is it hardware or software related issue?? Any idea?

  • Line app crashes frequently in iOS 8

I just downloaded iOS 8 via itunes with my phpne connected to my macbook. After updating, I find that my line App crashes a lot. I restarted my phone, and it still crashes, I tried closing all my apps including Line and restarting (for some reason the phone was remembering which apps were open even after turning it off and then on again and logging in with my pin) and even after quiting all my apps, turning the phone off and then on again, when I opened line, I had to open it over 4 times before it would stop immediately crashing after being opened. In total I have had the app crash (completely close) immediately after being opened over 12 times in the first 5 minutes after updating to iOS 8, and before on iOS 7 I maybe experienced Line crash once. It hasn't crashed since I opened it the last (5th?) time, but I don't want to have to deal with it crashing frequently or every time I restart my phone :/
I am using an iPhone 5s if that helps.

Just so you know I did uninstall and reinstall LINE and this did stop the app from crashsing. HOWEVER, users should be aware that doing this means all your history, chats, and users you added outside of your phone book will be deleted. So you should keep this in mind if having all your historical stuff is important. I think the biggest bad problem is that users you added manually will all be wipped out from your profile and you have to go back and re-add them again. Not a big deal if you only have a couple to re-add, but a problematic if you have 100's of users missing and have to re-add them.

  • Safari and other apps crash frequently

I just got my iMac back from getting the hard drive replaced (2nd time in a month). Everything seemed to be going smoothly, but now I notice that Safari will crash quite frequently, sometimes everytime I try to open it, and sometimes it will run for a while. I have had some other programs do this to me since I noticed it, but I lost almost all info when it got fixed so I haven't had time to try them all, I only got it back about 4 days ago. Ready to pull my hair out, so any help would be much appreciated.

    radiman,
Did you try the steps in Resolving Kernel Panics?
What happens when you try The Apple Hardware Test?
What is the S.M.A.R.T. status of your Hard Drive?
Since you appear not to have AppleCare, I would advise you to take it back to the service provider for resolution/warranty satisfaction regarding your third Hard Drive.

  • TS1702 I books store when viewing the 3.99 books crashes frequently. what's up?

When viewing the 3.99 books in ibooks the app crashes frequently. What's up? Doesn't like cheap books.

What version of the iBooks app is on your iPad? To check , tap Settings > General > Usage > iBooks.
If you don't have version 2.1.1, try updating iBooks.
If updating doesn't take care of it, take a look at this Apple article -> iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store

    Hello Kyem22,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with the Reminders app quitting unexpectedly.
The first thing I recommend is quitting and relaunching all the applications on your iPad:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting all the apps, I recommend restarting your iPad and then resetting if it's still not working:
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can find the full article here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, the last thing I recommend is backing up and restoring your iPad. The Reminders app is not something that can individually be reinstalled, but backing up your iPhone and restoring the iOS software will reinstall the application:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

I have one last related question if anyone has ideas... I use MS Exchange for email.  However, when I make updates to my calendar and contacts, it doesn't sync over the wireless network.  I have to shut down the apps and restart them to update them.  Sometimes the changes don't appear for days.  This is a real problem for a calendar.  Is there a way to force re-syncing to Exchange while in the app?

  • Frequent Cascading App Crashes

    Hi everyone,
I think I have a very serious problem and I can't find anyone who shares the same symptoms.
I upgraded from a Mac iBook to a Mac Pro desktop. After transferring all my data from the laptop to the Mac Pro, I booted up my new computer for the first time. After playing around on it for a half hour or so, an application freezes up (the error next to the app in the force quit screen reads application not responding). I continued playing and within 5 minutes, 3 or 4 more apps I had been running became equally unresponsive. I do NOT get the error message "The application XXXXX quit unexpectedly..." when a crash happens. The pplication either freezes or begins to behave irregularly. for example, VLC player will play a video once all the way through but without sound; toast will continue burning successfully until it comes time to eject the disk, then it will freeze up. When I tried to force quit out of any of the apps, I would be unable to do so. Although the application's window(s) close after 5 or 6 force quits, the app remains open and the lightblue/white app indicator light below each app stays lite. The only way for me to regain control of my mac was to force reboot. Once i reboot, everything seems normal again.
It's been that way ever since. I was hoping it might be a bug that would go away with software updates but this has not been the case, and the problem has persisted for over half a year. Here are some notable observations I've made regarding this problem over that time period:
    1) The domino effect seems to be confined to certain application / processes but once it begins I have no choice but to reboot. (There is no way that I've found to run an application again in the same session once it quits). The certain application / processes that continually trigger this effect are typically:
    - launching any of the following apps: system preferences, firefox, visualhub, toast, itunes, quicktime, and VLC player. I'm sure there are others, but this is the group that always starts the crashing chain.
2)copying items from one drive to another (or deleting items) also starts this.
    3) The finder seems to quit randomly as well. My mouse then turns into the colored pinwheel that never ends unless i restart the finder 4 or 5 times. After that, my system behaves very strangely. For example, it no longer copies files instantly from one location to the next when copying. Instead, I'll copy a file and the pinwheel will come on for 5 or 6 seconds and lock my computer up until the file is copied (im still able to move the mouse but can't select or click on anything.)
    4) I have seen no recognizable pattern about the order in which these apps quit or how far into the session it takes for the cascade to start. Sometimes this happens on the first application I open, other times I can open & close apps numerous times before the the problem occurs; sometimes I will have just turned the computer on and other times it will have been running for a few days before the problem occurs).
    5) The problem seems to occur sooner and more frequently after a forced shutdown. (in order to keep the problem at bay after a force quit, I reboot, shut down, and reboot properly before using my computer again.
    6) When I was running my system on the iBook, I never experienced anything like this (in terms of frequency & the effect of the app crashes). Again, I literally copied the exact system I was running on the iBook to the Mac Pro - same exact OS (10.5) with the same exact software; essentially I was running the same virtual system. This leads me to think that there is some sort of essential memory or hardware malfunction in my Mac Pro.
I've ran Tech Tools Pro 5 numerous times looking for anything suspect all the checks & tests appear to be more or less normal (no "major" problems, no bad blocks). I haven't been able to troubleshoot this problem from other forums as no one else seems to be experiencing anything like this. The only suggestion I've had was to repair disk permissions - reboot from the startup disk & repair permissions that way. I've done this a few times and the problem persists.
Can anyone offer some insite into what is going on here or better yet, what I can do to fix it?

I sometimes have the same problem. But only if my Mac has been running for a few weeks.
Applications just stop responding, Activity Monitor and Terminal too, so I can't go and start killing processes.
I've had this while running the original Apple harddisk and while I've been running of my SSD's, so it's not a problem caused by the drive the OS is running from. Both were clean installs with only my own files copied to the home folder (and some exported settings), precisely to make sure everything was 'clean'.
I've not had the problem while running Snow Leopard, yet, but I've only had this running for 4 days now...

  • My iPad continues to crash frequently despite closing app's not being used?

My iPad continues to crash frequently despite closing app's not being used?

Have you got a lot of memory that's being taken up or a lot of iCloud services taking place? It might be something to do with the iOS, have you tried a system restore? If you do remember to back up all your files!

  • Why are several Apple apps crashing after update to IOS5? Safari, Appstore and iBooks all crash Frequently :-(

Sine I updated to IOS 5.0.1 my iPad(version 1) crashes quite often.
Especially when using Safari, Ibooks and Appstore.
It is quite frustrating and I have  feeling that there are memory leaks.
Would be good to know if Apple are working on these problems.

Well, I have an iPad 2 3G 32GB end I can say ios 5 is PERFECT, really never seen an appstore app crashing!(200 apps + games installed), the only system app crashing sometimes is Safari, very rarely.
Os works very fast, notification center is awsome, the battery is good.
    Its perfect!
iOS 5 on the iPad 1 of ipad different story, AppStore apps crashing all the time, settings apps crashing, reminders crashing. bad Battery 3-4 h! VERY slow.Rubbish!
I guess what I'm trying to say is, the old ipad its slow end crashes, and so, if you want better, you upgrade.

  • App Crash is too frequent in iOS 8.0 (iPhone 5 User)

    Hey.
I am getting more and more annoyed by iOS 8.0.
Especially using Safari, there are too much App Crash (Sudden Shut-off the screen and go back to Home Screen).
I hope Apple should check this App Crash symptom and resolve it with patch or upgrade to iOS 8.1.

It may just not have been pushed out to your device yet.  Just hook your device up to iTunes (which is the easiest way to upgrade anyhow) and then update.  Make sure you back-up your device first.  Enjoy!

  • App started from SMB-Share crashes frequently!

    Hello!
I have a customer that has to start a medical program via SMB share. With Server 10.6.8 there was no trouble at all - since we replaced the server with Server 2.2.2 we are in big trouble
The customer uses Windows 7 as client systems and connects to a share at the Mountain Lion server. The clients can connect to the share without any trouble, but when I start the application the trouble begins.
Sometimes the app crashes immedialtly, sometimes the app runs for hours and suddently crashes. A message pops up telling "The program BlahBlah.exe does not react anymore" and thats it. Sometimes the application crashes five times a day at one client while at the same time at another client it runs stable.
So the crashes do not occure at the same time on all clients, it is intermittend. Sometimes the app does not crash at all during the day at one client, the next day it crashes 5-10 times at the same client.
Most of the clients are freshly installed Windows 7 systems.
I setup the timeouts at the Registry as mentioned in another discussion - frist this seams to help, but today the customer called and told me that today every thing looks like before the app crashes intermittend on every client.
I setup smbd with the -debug flag but I can not see that this changes anything in logging messages. The eventprotocol from Windows tells me that it tried to load a dll but the network share was not available.
When I browse the network share when a crash occured I can not see any problems - but I see lots of SMB logins after a crash. Looks like Windows trys to reconnect. AFAIK the connection was never lost.
The customer has a mac mini server, 16GB RAM with a Promise Thudnerbolt RAID running Mountain Lion Server 2.2.2.
Every help is highly welcome, bye

  • Sporadic Mail.app crashes when previewing messages with attachments

    Hi,
Mail.app crashes about 10% of the time that I click on an e-mail with an attachment. It seems to crash as it is decoding the attachment for viewing in the preview pane of the application. It doesn't seem to matter what type the attachment is. I think it only happens in my main work IMAP account, not my .Mac account, but I'm not 100% sure of that.
Is anyone else having this problem, and does anyone have a suggestion for how I might fix it?
I keep hoping that it will get magically fixed at some system update, but it has persisted in 10.4.9.
A sample crash log is below.

I have also experienced this problem, since I started with 10.4.7 and through updates to 10.4.9. I would agree with the 10% estimate of the frequency of the problem, though today for some reason it has happened more frequently; I found this thread while searching the discussions for a solution.
I, too, am hestitant to archive and reinstall. This problem is annoying, but the hassle and risk of a reinstall worries me. Any other suggestions? I attach my most recent crash report, in case it might shed more light on this issue.
    Thanks.

  • MacBook Pro 8, 2 Crashes Frequently

I've a MacBook Pro 8,2 Early 2011 (15", 2.3 GHz i7, 16GB RAM). Since last month, my system started to crash frequently, from once a day to few (3-4) times a day. The crashes happened at random times - as I'm replying emails with Mail, browsing with Safari, opening files from Finder, editing a Word doc or Powerpoint ppt, etc. Each time the machine crashes, it simply reboots and goes straight to login. There is no specific pattern or steps that I observed to replicate this. Originally, the crashes happened on OS X Mountion Lion. I've upgraded to OS X Mavericks hoping that this will be fixed, however my system still crashes frequently even after upgraded to OS X Mavericks. The App Store confirms that there are no further updates for my system.
Any ideas on how to fix this, or at least how to go about pinpointing the problem? In case it helps, my latest error report is below.
    Thanks.
    BR,
    Robin Mak
