Apps DBA Duties

Hi hussien,
We got a project from nww client for some tech support.
The scope of work includes the following:
1. Add DB Node
2. Increase control files
3. Create multiple disk group
4. Allocate add'l space to hold archive logs (RR + 11i)
5. Add’l concurrent processes
6. R12 PROD server monitoring
7. Cloning
I only comfortable with #6 and #7 :(
How do add a DB Node again? can it be done by cloning?
Can you give me links of how to do items #1, #2, #3, #4, #5
I hope you can give this as a Christmas present to me :)

How do add a DB Node again? can it be done by cloning?Adding a database node mean implementing RAC, so follow the RAC documents to achieve this -- You can use Rapid Clone.

1.what is new in 11.5.10 regarding Apps DBA duties.
2.Diff between Rapidclone and autoconfig.

Rapid Clone: Is a maintenace utility which we can use to reconfigure apps configuration after installation.
For example if you want change java_top location after installation, modify .xml file with this info and run autoconfig, which will take care of applying these changes across the system.
Autoconfig uses .xml which is a conext file which stores allthe config information, u can see this in the APPL_TOP/admin/sid.xml. Also autoconfig creates all autoconfig managed configuration files in all the tops, for exaple appsora.cmd or sid.cmd files in APPL_TOP.
You can change this .XML file either manually or by using editcontext utility,which u can find in COMMON_TOP/util directory.
Where as RAPIDCLONE is an utility provided for cloning applications from one server to another server(same o/s), without doing reinstallaing of apps again and again. With one properly installed and patched system u can create mulitple workable application envronments like test,development etc.
Whether it is 11.5.7 or 11.5.10 apps dba duties are same,but take care of new changes. Read READ me of 11.5.10, gives u good insight into changes.

I often come across the terms 'Apps DBA'. I have been trying to get it clarified from many, but I am not convinced. I want to know what is the role of Apps DBA?
What are the duties performed by Apps DBA? How is it different from core DBA?
I request you to explain on the above subject.

I want to know what is the role of Apps DBA?That's a common question! An Oracle Applications DBA is very different from a regular Oracle database administrator and requires specialized skills in business administration and Oracle application server architectures. The Oracle Applications DBA job role is less compartmentalized than a traditional Oracle DBA and the Oracle Applications DBA must also have skills in these areas:
- Database Design - Many shops require customized functional extensions and reporting data marts and the Oracle Applications DBA must have outstanding Database design skills.
- Oracle Application Server - The Oracle Applications DBA must understand the internals of the Oracle concurrent manager and understand how to monitor and tune Oracle Applications.
- Functional Expertise - Many shops requires a business degree and a general understanding of the Oracle Applications module. For example, accountants are widely used to support Oracle eBusiness Suite (Oracle Financials), and accountants with an IT background are easily trained in Oracle Applications DBA support.

I want to know is Apps DBA job is only related to E-Business Suite???
Or This also includes administering other s/w such as Oracle Web Logic Server, Fusion Middle-ware, Internet Application Server,Fusion Applications etc???and integrating these s/w with EBS???
Also is this under the responsibility of an Apps DBA to create Front end Menu,Responsibilities etc(That is front end system administration)??

In my opinion, an Apps DBA should have the Core DBA skills and should be able to maintain the database and not just the application tier.
Also is this under the responsibility of an Apps DBA to create Front end Menu,Responsibilities etc(That is front end system administration)??System Administrator responsibility.

Simple and stupid question for apps dba

hi
i have configured RAC 11gR2 on a C2D machine(just two nodes are there only) at home with 10gR2 db.its just a home configuration.
As i am newbie and freshly starter,i want to install EBS R12 just to practice Some apps DBA stuff with that clusterware + 10g db.
is there anything wrong?can i do that?
which EBS R12 package to download for minimal configration for just practice stuff?
any starter guide for this installation on linux OEL 5.4 x86_64??

Role of Apps DBA in Implementing New Module

Hi Friends,
Supposing a company has a running smooth production system of EBS 11i. With modules
FINANCIALS(GL,AR,AP,FA,CM) in it. Then the Company want to add another module HR system. Is an Apps DBA needed in the scenario? or only the SysAdmin and Functional
Consultant only.

It is the responsibility of both the System Administrator and the Apps DBA. If you need to change the status of HR module to fully installed, then you need to change the status from shared to fully installed (in case it is shared). You will also need to run DataInstall and apply hrglobal.drv driver using adpatch.

Which career is most rewarding one in terms of Salary, Job Security and Least amount of work

I have done Oracle 10g DBA certification what certifications would you recommend to me

Since "easy" and "least work" seem important to you, I'd suggest a career in something besides IT. I could make some specific suggestions but run the risk of insulting people who work in those areas.
