Apps disappeared after restored new iphone 4 from back up

I just restored my new iphone 4 from my last 3GS back up, and all of my apps are gone! The folders I created are there, as is my 'wallpaper' and my address book, but none of my old apps.
I had to transfer the back up file (which took FOREVER) from my Mac to my PC laptop, because my Mac is running 10.4.11 and therefore work work with iphone 4. Updating the Mac to 10.6 is not an option b/c it's got a powerpc processor, and rather than shell out 125 bones for Leopard, I am going to replace the Mac (when I can afford to do so).
So does anyone have any idea why my apps didn't make it onto the new phone? Does it have to do with the fact that the phone was synced with the itunes library on my Mac? I will need to sync it to the Itunes library on the PC from now on(which is empty at the moment). Itunes asked if I wanted to sync it with this new library, but seems to suggest that doing that would wipe the phone. I can usually find the guidance I need through a search, but as my situation is a little complicated, I've been unable to find anything related to my specific problem. Any advice about how to rescue my apps would be most appreciated.

I just had this happen yesterday! Ggggggrrrrr. I was trying to update a couple apps on my iPhone 4, and a message kept popping up saying “Can’t connect to iTunes”. After about 3 tries I thought maybe I just needed to reboot the phone.
After the reboot and my iPhone turned back on, there were no more folders (except for one labeled ‘Utilities’ with about 4 apps in it on my home screen), and I had 11 pages of apps!
All my apps were not visible because I have more than can fit on 11 pages, so I had to wait until I got home and synced with iTunes, then all my apps were visible.
I had to manually recreate all my folders. I certainly hope Apple fixes this bug before it happens again – it’s beyond annoying!!

I hope this will help you with your problem:
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
You can restore your backup whenever you want from iTunes or iCloud, depending where you made it.
Let us know if you succeeded or need any further help.
I believe you are missing the point. The OP has already restored from back up, but failed to include a specific app in the back up and is trying to recover data for it, which in this case is not possible.

  • Restoring new iPhone 4S from iCloud backup has created an app sync nightmare with iTunes

I've restored my new iPhone 4S from iCloud and plugged it into my computer to sync over the apps so they wouldnt have to redownload via iCloud. Hit the initial ok dialogue button, which had an auto-sync apps option checkmarked under it (this was the only dialogue option and only checkmark). Now iTunes wants to reload all apps and erase app data.
The phone is peforming as expected, downloading the apps one-by-one from iCloud, however, I won't be able to sync the phone, as leaving apps sync checked will rewrite all apps (erasing app data and adding apps I don't want on my phone), and unchecking apps sync will delete all apps from the phone. I've tried removing the ~/Library/iTunes/ folder, hoping it would force iTunes to re-initialize the sync config. This didn't help at all.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to re-restore from iCloud, but thinking I'm gonna have to and hope that not checking the auto-sync apps (when the phone is plugged in for the first time) will fix the issue. It's rather mindnumbing that there doesn't appear to be a less painful option for the simple task of setting up a new device from an old device iCloud backup. Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is hard to follow.

Ok, so this is pretty infuriating. I've gone ahead and restored from iCloud again. This time when I plugged my phone into iTunes for the first time, I unchecked the option to automatically sync apps. As expected, the Apps are not set to sync now, however, the computer does not display the apps loading on the phone, so if I did go ahead and turn on App sync, I would end up losing all app data. It appears that I will have to let all apps redownload from iCloud before I can do anything regarding syncing with iTunes. I can't believe this is the only option. I suppose I could turn off iCloud backup on my iPhone 4, allow it to create a local backup, then local restore onto iPhone 4S, then turn on iCloud backup. That seems a little too band-aidish to me, though.

Edit: Yes, I have 10.7.2 and all available system updates as of today (10/14/11).

  • Espn radio app disappeared after restore

I had to restore my iphone because it had nearly 5GB of "other" files. All my purchased apps disappeared, including espn radio. When I try to sync apps, itunes tells me this computer is not authorized for this app, even after I go to Store and Authorize this computer. Huh??? I'd rather not buy the app again if I don't have to.

Delete the app then restore it from iCloud it worked fine for me.

  • When restoring new iPhone 4S from old iPhone 3GS, Siri is gone

OK. so I brought home my new iPhone 4S. I plugged it in and answered the questions, the synced it. Nice, apps are there but no data. OK. so get online, figure out that I need to restore from the backup of my previous phone to get my data. So I do that. Sweet, data is there, looks just like the iPhone 3gs. Well, to much like the iPhone 3GS. Siri appears to not be on the phone. I'm thinking, sync the phone. Return the phone to factory default, then sync it back. Will that work?

To be clear...make sure you go into Settings/General, not just 'Settings'.
Like a tard, I made this mistake and was looking for Siri a level up from where she was.

Are you using the same Apple ID and password that has been used to set up the phone for the very first time?

  • Apps disappeared after Restore

Recently I had a problem with iPhone which went into Recovery mode and I had to restore iPhone back to factory settings which I did. I now find that my apps which I paid for are not on iPhone . How do I get them back on iPhone? Help please.

All 3rd party apps on your iPhone should be available in your iTunes library on your computer. If not - all apps that were on your iPhone were downloaded with your iPhone and this means you don't have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. When this is selected and it should be, after downloading an app with your iPhone the app will be copied to your iTunes library the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. This also allows for installing and removing apps on your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.
Re-download the apps with iTunes on your computer and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download an app that was used to purchase the app originally.
Follow this by selecting Sync Apps under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and selecting the apps in the window below that you want installed on your iPhone followed by a sync.

  • Problem viewing photos after restoring new iPhone 6

Got a new iPhone 6 yesterday. Followed the basic steps to duplicating my old 5 to the 6 and synced perfectly. However, when I went to view my photos, I noticed that nearly all of them were blank/white. The phone recognized that there were photos but would not show them or load them. Can I get some help on how to get my photos to show? I also have iCloud Library Sharing turned on.

    Greetings kspenrath,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with the Camera app on your iPhone. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities,

  • HT1766 How long should it take to restore new iPhone backup from iCloud?

How long should it take to restore new 4s iPhone backup from iCloud?

That depends mostly on your Internet connection download speed, and how much data you have on the phone. It could take anything from a few minutes to several days. There is no "one size fits all" answer.

  • App disappears after restore finished

I was unable to download iPad apps from iTunes onto my iPad 2, so I did a restore. During the restore process the apps in questions loaded during the sync. As soon as the restore sync finished they disappeared from the iPad. However, they still show up on the App List in Settings.

That is weird - especially if they show up in apps list in settings on the iPad. Try to sync them again. Make sure that you have the apps checked/selected to sync when you are connected to iTunes. Make sure that the sync apps heading is checked as well.
If this still does not work, you can download the apps again in the purchased tab of the app store as long as you use the same ID that you originally bought the apps with. Maybe that will work.

  • I lost my "Siri" along with everything else after restoring my iPhone 4S from backup in my iTunes  how do I fix this issue?

it basically turned into my brother's iPhone 4, since I had synced his phone with my iTunes once before
    so...
will it help to restore my phone to factory setting?
or ... is there any sort of automatic backup on the cloud service?
& if I restore my phone, is there any way to keep the apps I've payed for?!

After restoring my iphone 4 to factory settings, then restoring from a recent backup, my phone will reboot but keeps coming back to the "new setup or restore from backup screen". How can I by-pass this screen to go directly to the sync apps/music screen?

Well, it's certainly behaving as though the phone that was backed up was synced to a different iTunes library.
I'm going to throw one more thing out there... Yes, you backed it up to this computer... Was the phone previously set up to sync with this computer? Or was it syncing with a different computer and you just backed it up to this one?
You may have to end up setting it up as a new device and rebuilding the phone by manually re-syncing your data, apps, music, etc. to the phone.
Trying to keep your library on a different drive can be tricky. If iTunes starts up and the library isn't available, it may end up generating a new library ID, meaning that you could easily find yourself in exactly the position you're in now...
I'm curious why there was a need to restore your phone to begin with... It may not have any bearing on this at all, but it could.

  • I bought a iPhone 6 yesterday and I restored my iPhone 6 from my iTunes back up. After my phone restored from back. When I plug my iPhone 6 it's still saying my iPhone 6 is new and still giving me the restore from a back up or set as a new iPhone

I bought a iPhone 6 yesterday and I restored my iPhone 6 from my iTunes back up. After my phone restored from back up. When I plug my iPhone 6 it's still saying my iPhone 6 is new and still giving me the restore from a back up or set as a new iPhone option. But I already have it restored. How come it's not giving me any option to cancel.

Click set up as a new iPhone. It will associate the device with your library without clearing the content that you have already loaded onto it.
