Apps disappeared, please help!

Hi iPod experts!
My iPod Touch crashed and rebooted.  After the reboot, I cannot see any of my apps.  I had 6 pages of apps before, but now there is only the default first page (calculator, etc.).
I tried to reset the iPod a couple of times by holding the round button + power...to no avail.  When I plug it into iTunes, I do see the space that was previously occupied by "Apps" is now "Other".  So it looks like my apps are still on the iPod, I just cannot see them.
Unfortunately, I don't have a backup of the iPod on iTunes.  Please help!
