Apps don't show on Dock when open in Snow Leopard

I just noticed this today. I'm not sure if it just started or if it has been happening since I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Anyway, I have noticed two things about the new dock. 1st, when I have an application open that is on my dock, there is no longer a light underneath it that indicates it is open. 2nd, when I open an app that is not on the dock, the icon is not showing up on the dock. Is this happening to anyone else? Any suggestions on how to fix?

I've had the same problem; its a minor irritant. I've trashed the preferences but the behavior continues. I find that some apps, Stickies for example, don't appear on the dock the first time you use them. However, if you restart the system, the next time you use the app it appears in the doc and behaves properly.

Yes TeeKnows, try deleting it and download it again. After finished installation if still shows black screen delete it out off 'running apps' by double tapping the home button and swipe it off. If still shows black screen then try fully turning off your iPad (holding the sleep button) and turn back on again.

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove your email addresses from your post (it's not a good idea to post personal info on any public forum).
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in the country where you and your iTunes account are to get the questions reset.

I thought I resolved it, but the problem came back! And this time, re-starting Muse didn't help.
I was creating a vertical line to separate the sidebar from the main area, and when I extended the line down to where the footer guide is, the page started to expand and the navigation bar at the top started growing, while the links disappeared again. Now all links from the master page are again missing from every page but the master.
When I undid it, the navbar went back to its normal depth, but the text links in it did not return.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
Also, it really wasn't my intention for the navigation bar to grow vertically as the page grows. Is there a way to prevent that?

How do I get Firefox to display the information bar when a pop up is blocked I accidentally clicked on "Don't show this message when pop-ups are blocked" when a pop up was blocked. How do I get this message to reappear again when a pop up is blocked?

I just updated Firefox but can't get it to display the message when a pop-up is blocked. Most times I want them blocked but sometimes I need them enabled.

You can see a pop-up block icon in the right corner of the Status Bar if you have chosen to hide the information bar at the top.
You can left-click that pop-up block icon on the Status Bar and remove the check mark from "Don't show info message when pop-ups are blocked"
You can look at these prefs on the '''about:config''' page and reset them via the right-click context menu:
Status bar icon: browser.popups.showPopupBlocker
Info bar at the top: privacy.popups.showBrowserMessage
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

That library was created by iPhoto via Share ➙ Burn menu, correct? It's old enough that you may have to drag that library to the desktop and open it with the Finder. Then drag the subfolders from the Originals folder into your open iPhoto 9 library window to import.

Notice how in the photo, I can't identify which MS office document I would like to switch too. Perhaps since the Dashboard and Desktop windows are at the top of my screen now Apple doesn't let you have all the applications take up the full screen and be sized individually so that you can have a better idea on what to pick.
I like the idea of grouping to an extent... If you have a bunch of random things it was hard for me to decifer between what was safari, chrome, or word. But now that they grouped them like this, if you have multiple pages of one program running, you can't switch between those pages easily like before.

If I wanted to open any of my Applework documents I had to open them one at a time and resave them with pages. This could take weeks.I have 1000s of apple work documents.
You don't have to open and re-save every AppleWorks document you have right now. Just wait till you need one, then do it. The documents aren't going anywhere.
Am I dealing with Microsoft? This was a BIG surprise to me that Apple would release an OS without testing all programs.
Frankly, it is not Apple's responsibility to ensure compatibiltiy with every piece of software available for OS X. That is the responsibility of the software vendor. Lion has been available to developers for several months before it's release, so Microtek had plenty of time to update their software. Yet they did not. How is that Apple's fault? I think Apple was very generous to give you a refund for Lion.
I'm not trying to belittle your frustration but I do think your ire is misplaced.

I have aperture 1. When I uploaded Snow Leopard I couldn't open Aperture.Do I have to purchase Aperture 3 or can I just purchase the latest download and have it work?

I have an I Mac and on it is Aperture one. i have all my photos on it. When I bought Snow Leopard, I could no longer use Aperture because it says i can't open it with Snow Leopard. Do I have to buy a brand new Aperture 3 or can i just download the most recent Aperture 3 download. In other words does the recent download allow me to start using it again, or do I have to go through buying all the downloads?

You can just purchase Aperture 3. If you do this from the App Store it will cost you $80 US but this is still cheaper then buying the individual upgrades.

AE CS4 Will not open after Snow Leopard Upgrade

Ok, i posted this earlier but I don't think I was clear enough to get an answer. I recently did a clean install of Snow Leopard and a fresh install of my Production Studio CS4. Upon getting it all installed, I realized that After Effects will NOT open at all. It just bounces on the Dock a few times and then stops. Then after that, when you click on it, it bounces once, then stops. Every other program works great, only after effects is not working. Why is this? Is there something I need to do? I reeinstalled just the AE and downloaded the newest update, still, the same thing. I would appreciate any suggestions to get it running.

I experienced this when upgrading to Snow Leopard myself.
After Effects is one of many, many applications which require Rosetta to be installed. In Snow Leopard, Rosetta is an optional install on the disk. So just make sure you install it.
Now, the thing also is that once Rosetta is installed, the OS still seems to have AE flagged as an app which requires a missing component to launch. This was fixed after a couple of restarts, in my case.

Hi Donald,
No it doesn't erase anything by default, it does what we used to call an Archive and Install feature, which can give you a new OS, yet preserve your files and settings if you have enough room on your HD...

But it does it automatically unless you specifically erase the Disk, but will replace Tiger completely for the OS & several Apple Apps like Safari, Mail, etc, yet preserve your old settings for those!
If you think you may need Tiger to run any APPs that do not work in SL/10.6, then clone or backup first.
I would recomend 2 things before installing though...
Make sure you have enough RAM & HD space.
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
   * Mac computer with an Intel processor
    * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

I have been using DW 4.2 on 10.5.8 and the speed-up was the first thing I noted, too, so it isn't just SL.
Now if it would only 'come up for air' and respond to input to move window (so I can put it where I can see it if needed) I'd like that.

Aside from its obvious lack of the features just listed, HFS+ is limited in many ways by its dated design, which is based on HFS, *a twenty-five year-old file system.*
To give just one example, the centrally located Catalog File, which must be updated for each change to the file system's structure, is a frequent and inevitable source of contention. Modern file systems usually spread their metadata around, both for robustness (multiple copies are often kept in separate locations on the disk) and to allow for better concurrency.
Practically speaking, think about those times when you run Disk Utility on an HFS+ volume and it finds (and hopefully repairs) a bunch of errors. *That's bad, okay?* +*That's something that should not happen*+ with a modern, thoroughly checksummed, always-consistent-on-disk file system unless there are hardware problems (and a ZFS storage pool can actually deal with that as well). And yet it happens all the time with HFS+ disks in Mac OS X when various bits of metadata to get corrupted or become out of date.
Apple gets by year after year, tacking new features onto HFS+ with duct tape and a prayer, but at a certain point there simply has to be a successor—whether it's ZFS, a home-grown Apple file system, or something else entirely. My fingers are crossed for Mac OS X 10.7.
If Disk Utility was reliable in mapping out weak sectors (it is not) and report/log errors. But it doesn't and I trust my data to other file systems when possible. We've come to expect and depend on 3rd party utilities and that Apple First Aid doesn't fix every possible error.
Scanning one drive for errors can take a long time. Maybe it needs to be done, maybe in the background. With 2TB drives it gets worse. Spending hours to scan for errors??? I've set TechTool Pro to concurrently scan anywhere from one to a dozen volumes at once.
An ounce of prevention, as they say, is worth a pound of cure.

Email (outgoing) stopped working when I installed Snow Leopard - easy fix

When I installed Snow Leopard I could no longer send outgoing email
through the cox server.
Apple Support helped me with this easy solution:
Select "Mail|Preferences", account information tab.
Select "Edit SMTP server list" in the "Outgoing Mail Server" pulldown.
Select "Advanced".
click the "Use Custom Port" radio button and type in "25".
(I also turned off "use SSL".)
It seems that SL may not be cycling through the default ports for outgoing email.
It fixed mine.

Does the camera mount on the desktop as a disc?
If so, double-click the icon and drag the pics to a folder on the Mac.
You should then be able to import them to iPhoto or whatever.
I don't have an Olympus, but all my Fuji and Pentax cameras have mounted perfectly well as a disc without using any software from either company.
Mind you, I don't use Image Capture, Photoshop or iPhoto to import anything directly; I want my pics in my filing system not someone else's idea of what it should be.

Problem when updating to snow leopard

Last week i decided update my macbook pro to the latest operating system. To do this the web site advised me that i needed to updated to OS x Snow Leopard before taking the step to the latest operating system.
I subsequently purchased the disc and tonight i decided to run the Snow Leopard disc to update my machine.
Initially al seemed well.
The disc started and began to run. The update told me that i had approximately 57 min for the install. The machine was plugged in and all good. About 5-7 min in the machine shut down and began to restart. Now about 1 hour 30 min in and the machine is still showing the white screen with the apple logo as it did about 1 hour 20 min ago.
The machine appears to have hung...
Could anyone advise me of what i can do?
I dont know what version i was running previously but the original machine was purchased about 10 months ago.
I am certainly not an expert so would appreciate some simple help and instruction to sort this out.

The only QT 7 version currently compatible with Snow Leopard is v7.6.3 which is found in the extras package on the Snow Leopard installation disc. (Assuming it was not already installed in your "Utilities" folder if QT 7 Pro was already active on your platform when you installed Snow Leopard.)

QT Pro wont work when updating to Snow Leopard

On my iMac I have QT and and older version (PRO) and all is fine.
ON my laptop I have QT and and older version (PRO?) and Pro wont work - I Get Message
saying "Can't use this version this (you have QT player 7.0.4)
How do can I get my old pro version working? Can I DL it separately and then key in my regis numbers?
Frankly I prefer Pro over the new SNL version of QT
