Apps grey out on iTunes

I have three iphones. One is an iphone4 and is the one I use as my phone/pda. Two are leftovers from updates that I only use for my kids to play games on. One runs 3.2, the other also runs 4.2. I sync mine many times a day (iCal, Mail, iPhoto, etc)...the other two only when there are new games to load on them. I have synced purchased games on iTunes or my iPhone4 many times before among all three
Today I got Ball Pit on my iphone4. I synced to iTunes and when i tried to sync the other two iphones both showed the apps greyed out on the app tab...all the other tabs (although i do not use) are functional. After disconnecting I noticed the app store icon on both of these "game" iphones are gone (). Help pls!! Many thx.

On both of these iPhones, go to Settings > General > Restrictions.
Is Restrictions turned on?
If so, is Installing Apps enabled as a Restriction?

  • Apple id greyed out in itunes

my apple id is greyed out in itunes on my ipad I noticed this when an app I was trying to download kept saying "waiting" ....I cannot update my apps either as they say waiting.  I can get in my account on itunes on my computer.  This is all since the new os .....I would also like to stop these apps now but can't find a place to do it.

I have the EXACT same problem since the OS update.   The TV apps I use a LOT tried to update, but are now permanently  stuck on 'waiting.   I cannot use them.  I cannot even delete them, or try to re install.   I have two new apps (which have never fully installed, and now I want to delete)  stuck on 'installing' too.  I cannot delete them, because when you press the icon to make it wiggle, no cross appears. They will not delete in iTunes. And I cannot sign out and re sign in, as my Apple ID is greyed out.
    Please, someone help!!

  • Cannot sync (sync greyed out in iTunes, and unavailable on iTunes).

I can't sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes (on a Windows XP computer).  Both are the latest versions (I had 10.6 iTunes which itunes told me was the latest, and discovered 11 is available which I believe I downloaded, both of which had the same problem).  The sync button is greyed out in iTunes.  I've tried wi-fi and cable syncs...neither of which has worked.
This seems to be a common problem, I've seen forum postings on this subject going back to 2011, and as recent as a few days ago, and still no solutions presented.  I've spent hours over the last week and this weekend looking for a solution.

Just in case anyone has the same problem and stumbles upon my unanswered thread, I found a work-around.  Not sure if step 1 is necessary, but its the path I took.
    1.  Reset your iPhone (from off, hold down on button with home for 10 secs, then continue holding home) and follow prompts for resetting in iTunes.  Note, this will wipe out your apps, some of which I paid for...not sure if they're gone forever...
    2.  Download 3rd party program "MediaMonkey".  I know, its ghetto, but whatever works.  MediaMonkey is essentially a 3p iTunes.
    3.  MediaMonkey will find and load your iTunes material saved to your PC/Mac.
    4.  Sync in MediaMonkey.  Fairly userfriendly/obvious how to do this.
Thanks Apple, your turning into a real POS company.  As noted, my next phone purchase will not be with you and I'll certainly share this experience I've had with others.  Continue to focus on your cool hipster marketing scheme, and not on your product, so you can sell your crop to generations and generations of yuppies for years to come.

  • I would like to use GarageBand to remaster downloaded music files that are in iTunes.  Poorly mastered files keep clipping and damaging my speakers.  When I try to use an iTunes file as a new project, it greys out the iTunes songs so I can't select them.

As I said - look whether your original file is damaged or not. If not, I wouldn't change it and find out what in your system makes it sound like it's clipping.
Good sound file, with volume maxed out. No need to change anything.
The same song clipped - no chance to repair.

  • CD Ripped Music on iPhone6 Greyed out in iTunes and will not Sync/Transfer

I recently added my MP3 files back into iTunes.  I didn't seem to have any issues transferring any of these songs to my iPod Nano or work iPhone4s.  When I try to transfer these items to my new iPhone6 they are greyed out in iTunes and will not transfer.  I can, however, view and play the library when switching to the hone share file on wi-fi.
What am I not able to transfer these songs to my iPhone6?

Actually I just corrected this on my own by syncing specific items and checking nothing at all and then going back to select everything.

  • Copied my iTunes library to new MacBook Pro, why are my iPhone apps greyed out?

    Hi,
Rather than migrate from an iMac that I sold, I decided to just start fresh on a new Macbook Pro. I did back up my iTunes library and copied it over to the new Macbook. I synced my iPhone and iPad 2 on the new Macbook but the apps are greyed out. When I click the sync apps box all but a few of the apps (I'm assuming the ones that are default with the iPhone and iPad) dissappear.
I'd like the ability to arrange my apps with the Macbook at times and like the idea that I have a backup of all my apps on my computer. I realize I'm backing them up in iCloud, but just sayin'.
    Thanks,
    Bo

Do I purchase an external hard-drive and transfer? Or should I just go and get a 32 GB Flashdrive? Anyone have any tips for doing this stuff?
assuming all your media files are in the default location, connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in Target Disk Mode, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
So how can I turn off the library on my iMac and just make it two?
    you can't.
you'll have to wait until you reach the limit of five machines. then you can use the deauthorize all option, following which you can reauthorize those computers you currently use/have access to.

  • I have transferred my itunes to a new phone and all my apps are greyed out on itunes

i have transferred my itunes to a new phone and all my apps are greyed out on my itunes account, the apps still work fine on the phone

Nothing is stored on the sim card on an iPhone.  If you backed up to your computer the backup will contain your calendar events.  Otherwise, if your phone isn't functioning there is no way to back up or extract your calendar at this point.

  • App greyed out or unable to download

    Hi All,
I have built a ipa file on xcode 5 and my target architecture is armv7,armv7s. Some of the users are facing issues while installing the app.
When they are trying to load the ipa file via iTunes, the app is greyed out and shows 'installing'.
I also tried to install the app by providing a unique url on http://install.diawi.com/. While using the same, some users got an error message "Unable to download App".
The devices are mostly 4s and 5 running ios7.Let me further add that the issue is prevalent on a few devices and not all of them. We have checked the udids and they seem to be fine.
Any suggestions will be of great help

Try temporarily turning off your firewall and antivirus software until the download has completed. if that doesn't work then you could try downloading the update via a browser : https://discussions.apple.com/message/16436025#16436025

  • Apps greyed out

I have an iPad that I used with my Windows machine and iTunes.
    Syncing worked fine.
I now have a new iMac (yea), but when I connect my iPad to iTunes on the iMac
click my iPad device name and Apps at the top all of the Apps appear on the
screen except they are greyed out.  I asumme there is some sort of login, but I'm danged
(trying to be polite) if I can find it.  It is where?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I have this problem as well.  Rebooting the watch removed the greyed out icons, which is absolutely horrible, since I could only remember one of the apps that was greyed.  So, you have to go back into the Apple Watch app, find the app(s) that were removed from the watch and re-add them.

  • All apps grayed out in itunes

When I plug my iphone into my computer, itunes comes up, but when I click the my iphone button, then the apps button, all the apps are grayed out. I can't move them, I can't transfer apps from my computer to my iphone, I can't do anything.
    Any ideas?

    Same issue here.
I recently bought a new laptop, authorised it for my iTunes account, etc, etc, transferred all my music, and everything was absolutely fine. HOWEVER, when I connected up my iPhone and transferred my App Purchases across to the new laptop(which was also fine incidentally), I found the iPhone screen in iTunes under the "Apps" tab is completely greyed out. I can't move apps around, and more irritatingly I can can't synch apps from iTunes to my iPhone. I've tried backing it up (which again works fine), checked every setting under the sun both in iTunes and on my iPhone, but no joy.
I've been scouring the net for answers and the only thing I've found is to check the Restrictions settings on my iPhone to ensure they are off. My apps Restrictions settings were already set to Off, so that's clearly not the problem. Both my iTunes and iPhone are running the latest versions and OS updates.
There seems to be literally hundreds of people with this problem if the threads on the net are anything to go by, but no-one seems to know the answer.
Any help very much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Iphone 4 iOS 6.1.3 can't download apps (greyed out)

I have had issues with apps not allowing me to download with the app being greyed out in the itunes app store on my iphone.  I then tried to download to itunes on my pc & sync to my iphone.  When I sync it shows on the pc that it is on my phone but it doesn't give me the app on my phone.  It gives me an empty space on my screen for that app.  I am not sure why I am having these issues.  My husband has an iphone4 with iOS 6.1.3 also and he is able to download the apps that I am having issues with.

  • Restriced apps greyed out after iOS 7 upgrade?

I have a cart of iPad2's that I have enabled restrictions on.  I had Safari, Camera, iTunes, and Delete Apps disabled in the restrictions.  A few weeks ago I upgraded the iPads to iOS 7and now when I go to turn any of those settings back on in restrictions I can not.  Any restriction I had previously configured before upgrading to iOS 7 is now greyed out and I can not turn it on or off.  This is a nightmare becasue these iPads have TONS of apps on them and are customized for individual students so restoring each one to factory settings would be horrific.
Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

I haven't noticed that issue but I found out today that ever since I updated our student supervised devices, their ability to add an email account under the "Mail" app is now restricted.  I have been going crazy trying to see if I accidentally changed a restriction in the profiles but found out that it is only happening to iPads that have had the update done.  :-(

  • I bought songs on iTunes  via iPhone and now they are greyed out on iTunes and iPhone and will not play

I downloaded songs from iTunes to my iPhone, after I synced to iTunes most of the bought songs are greyed out on both. What can I do to get these songs back?

are you absolutely positive they were ringtones? check your music app to see if they are in there. If they are, you downloaded songs and not ring tones.

  • Ipod playlists greyed out in itunes

I am having a problem when my ipod is connected to my computer. It connects to itunes, but when I click on the ipod or playlists in the ipod everything is greyed out and I can not click on it. I am not able to drag new downloaded songs into any of my playlists either. I just get a circle with a line through it.
    Please help

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to remember about manually updating though is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
