Apps ignoring iphone volume settings
I don't know if this goes in iPhone or iOS. I was in a restaurant viewing my Facebook newsfeed and accidentally clicked a video that started playing at full volume. I pushed the mute button but that didn't stop the sound.
I turned the volume on the phone all the way down using the buttons but that didn't make a difference. Same thing happened with Pandora.
There are at least 2 apps on my iPhone 5 that did not respect the volume settings on the phone (set with the buttons and mute switch).
Is this the apps' fault, iOS or the phone?
It's the app's fault. Delete the app then reinstall it. If the issue remains, contact the app developer.

A way to normalize volume in the iPod app on iPhone?
I have a set of favorite songs in a playlist in iTunes on my PC, and in my iPod Classic. As either one is used to play the playlist, the volume of each song is reasonable in relation to the others. It doesn't surprise me, since I've been told that iTunes "normalizes" volume levels of music files as they are added to iTunes. Not sure if it adds playback information to the file in a form similar to the data tags on mp3 files or what.
Anyway, here's the problem. I synched my iPhone 3GS to iTunes so I can play this one playlist via the iPod app in iPhone. But there's one musician whose songs come out sounding twice as loud, and distorted. They don't do that in iTunes or in the iPod Classic. I poked around on the iPod app for some settings without any luck. Suggestions? I can take the original music files and create lower-volume versions, but that seems like kind of a clumsy approach.gjdolphin79 wrote:

App Store ignoring System Pref. settings
Today I awoke to an App Store notification that there were updates available. I was given two choices, 1) Install 2) Later (with some options). I opened App Store app to see what updates were supposedly available and there was the one update I was putting off which was XCode. I didn't want to install it now. I knew that I had changed the App Store settings in System Preferences to olny check for updates but not act on them or download them so I opened System Prefs. and verified this. Sure enough, I had only one item checked (Automatically check for updates). Everything else was unchecked.
So, I have a few quesstions;
Why is App Store ignoring its own settings and download an app I didn't want yet?
Why did the notification only offer me two options (again ignoring its own settings)?
Why didn't the notification tell me which updates were available?
And some comments;
This is just an unacceptable way to approach updates, IMHO. I need control over what is going to be downloaded and when (bandwidth control and timing). I must know what is ready for update beforehand so I can understand what it means and be able to opt out or delay it to a point when I am ready (control over what is going to be updated vs what is not and when).

You would have to create the ringtones.
Google will find several way to do this.
You cannot buy ready made ringtones from your computer. -

New iMovie app for iPhone 4 not showing up in Location Services (Settings)
iMovie app for iPhone 4 not showing up in Location Services (Settings). It apprently needs to be both viaible and turned on in Settings/General/Location Services in order for the app to discover previously taken video (Location Services correctly recognizes other apps of mine that utilize location-aware services).
I think the following is related to and caused by this problem above: iMovie App for iPhone 4 is not recognizing video clips I have made, whether they're in Photo Album, or iPhone 4 native movies that have been throughout this process: [sync with iPhoto on Mac > save to to iPhoto album > sync album to iPhone 4].Just had this same problem. The solution is to turn Location Services on before launching iPhone iMovie.
Yes, iMovie needing GPS coordinates is crazy, as is the error message that doesn't correctly explain the problem. Looks like a bit of a rush job. -
Some apps and iphone info tells me to go to "settings" and in "settings" choose "location services". Under settings on my phone there is no "location services". What's up with that?

The storage you purchased is in the cloud, and doesn't do anything with your pad. Your problem is simply that you have too much content on your pad. Go to settings, general, usage, and it will show you how much space you have avaliable on your pad. If you let the screen sit for a while, all the apps will be displayed, and you can see how much stuff you have associated with each.
You have to no option but to delete some of the content on your pad. Videos, comics, pitcures and some music files use a lot of space. The cloud allows you to leave stuff there, so you can get it when you need it. -

Have you tried the restart/reset/restore troubleshooting path? That would be the best initial set of steps to take, particularly in a situation like this.

Good question. No, you do not.
The only reason you would need the "Find My iPhone" app on your iPhone would be to find a different iPhone (or iPad) on this particular iPhone.
Right now, with no additional app on your iPhone, if lost, you could find it from a computer or other device by simply logging into iCloud using your Apple ID and password. -
Can the iPhone have settings profiles? I want the settings of what apps are using the "call home" automatically set based on my location or the time of day. Is this possible? Of course the GPS location feature will need to be on in order for this to work. But the idea here would be to optimize battery life by disabling the 'call home' requests of apps. The settings profile should also support downloads as I would like to download and allow it when I am on WiFi but not so much when I am using my cellular data.
No, this is not possible as the sandboxed nature of iOS would not allow any app to modify another app like that. Such a feature would have to be enabled by Apple as a part of iOS itself. You can submit feedback to Apple about the idea if you wish to.

After installing an app on iPhone 5s, I can't use it outside of wifi (using cellular or mobile data) and the app is not listed in settings to enable its use of mobile data - any clues on what is wrong here?
Steps to take to resolve this issue:
1/ Turn off Wifi
2/ Ensure Mobile (cellular) data is on
3/ Turn iPhone OFF and then ON (re-boot iPhone)
4/ Without turning Wifi on, open an app that requires mobile (cellular) data.
5/ The app will now show on the Settings list with the option to enable or disable mobile (cellular) data
6/ In time all apps that require or use mobile data will be added to the list automatically. -

On other phones carriers can install a great deal of other information that is called bloatware. At least that cannot be done on the iPhone, but it does have its share of things that people want to remove. Again, the feedback link is where you need to address your thoughts. Why is my iphone automatically lowering ringer & incall volume settings?
My wife and I purchased our iphones from two different AT&T stores. The volume setting keeps lowering itself to the lowest setting for both the ringer and in-call conversations. I actually saw it in action the other day. I looked at the screen and the ringer icon appeard showing full volume. Then it automatically lowered itself, deleting the small white square (that indicate volume setting) from right to left until there was only one square remaining on the left.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?I think it has something to do with "Sound Check" ... There's a setting under iPod with an On/Off slider labeled Sound Check. The manual describes it as "Set iPhone to use the iTunes volume settings" (p.65).
I had a problem where, the volume level would drop down by itself to a very low level, making my ringer sound barely audible. I was missing calls all over the place! Well, it turns out that in iTunes > Preferences > Playback, there is a "soundcheck" check-box. Soundcheck apparently adjusts the volume of your computer so that one audio track sounds as loud as another, even if they were recorded at different levels.
My theory, which I'm still testing with my iPhone (so far so good!), is to uncheck Soundcheck in iTunes, and turn off the on/off slider for the iPhone's iPod Soundcheck setting. What I think might be happening is that something about Soundcheck on the iPhone is not working right, perhaps the Soundcheck thinks the iPhone stock ringer tones have a sound level that is way top high, and so Soundcheck is compensating by setting the volume level on the iPhone super-low.
And with Soundcheck off in iTunes and on the iPhone, I'm not noticing any volume issues ... if the volume of some podcast is too low, I manually turn up my laptop or iPhone volume, big deal!
This may be a situation in which an automatic feature designed to eliminate the need for the user to do something that is not a big bother anyway, causes more unexpected problems than it solves.
So, so far, this has worked for me, but I want to give it a few days just to make sure something else isn't also in play. I'd love to hear if my theory and turning off Soundcheck everywhere solves the volume-level-drops-by-itself-on-the-iPhone mystery! -
GMail. Changed password on PC email account, and did same on IPhone 4 Settings for Gmail. App opens but tells me username or password for Gmail is incorrect. Have ensured both are correct...still no access
If you have 2-step verification set up for your gmail account, you will need to generate an application-specific password for your iphone applications (because those apps apparently don't support 2-step verification).
Go into your google account, look in accounts/security/2-step verification, there is a link called "Manage your application specific passwords" Use that to generate a special password for your iphone apps and use that instead of your usual gmail password on your phone.
