We need to press home button to goto main screen, does it close the exiting running app or it remains open in the background?

it will remain open and drians battery from your iphone what you need to do is to double tap on the home button and the screen will slide up and you will see the open apps in the background tap and hold on one of the apps then a sign will come next to them and they will start wobelling press that sign and you will close the apps

They must have. No apps have been able to run in the background even on 1g iphone. Maybe because Apple realize that the battery wouldn't last 2 hours with apps running in the background.

also check activity monitor - all processes - see what's using up most of your cpu resources under % CPU....
highlight anything that's really high and hit quit process......anything over 10% is considered high - unless it's your browser....

BUT your answers revealed an explicit controversy about background apps ... close them to save power and performance OR don't bother to close them as they are idle or inactive!

I have a Java application that runs constantly on a users computer. (Checking for files to download from a server) I want to have this application run in the background instead of putting a short cut on the Windows task bar. How do you play videos from the "Videos" app in the background IPod 4G

I used to have an app which allowed me to play videos from the "Videos" app on my ipod touch 4th gen. But the other day I had to wipe my ipod and can no longer get this app. Is there any other app which imports your videos from the "videos" app or is there a way to play videos in the background using the "videos" app.

You can only play videos in the Videos app when the Video app is on the screen. Video, and any audio with it, do not play when using another app.
You can try changing the Media Kind in Get Info>Option in iTunes on the computer to Music Video and see if that works

iOS doesn't truly multi-task, so you can't run one app in one window and another in a separate window. There are probably some good reasons for this, including battery life, but you'd have to ask Apple:

When i try to remove an app from a folder in launchpad it freezes the app in the background, how do i fix this?

I already restored my coputer 4 times! i just bought it less than a month ago. Whenever i try to ungroup applications in launchpad the icon freezes in the backgroup and i have no idea what to do.

Strange thing is I tried my origional password and it worked, it seems the Apple ID ie my email address is not transfering to the app store , as when I try to download something and it requests my password when the Apple ID box opens, the ID is still missing a letter? Im at a loss as to how this happened or how to change it, but as it s working with my old password should I be worried about it? its different to anything else On apple ID , other than the one missing letter its the same email address but a different password for each one. It seems that what ever is in my Apple ID, it wont transfer to the app store Apple ID?

Hi. Is there a way to make the background useable? For example, you have a fullscreen only app in the background and you want/wanted (which is the correct grammar btw, those who're native speakers and why?) and you have Safari for some tutorial, is there a way to access the background app (for example if it's a drawing app you're learning).
It is possible I guess if the background is/was (which is the correct grammar again btw and why) was resizable.

Another way to be able to get to the tutorial in Safari would be to double-click the titlebar of the drawing app's window. Doing that should minimize it, dropping it into the Dock, thus making the Safari window visible. You can bring the drawing back up and front by clicking its icon in the Dock.
I can see a lot of confusion happening if it were possible to have the top window inactive and one in the back of it active. One would have to be really alert as to which window was the active one, to avoid something happening in the wrong place. I'm glad it doesn't work that way.
As far as the drawing app not behaving in accordance with Apple's guidlines re full-screen windows, well, that's on the publisher of the program. Apple publishes developer guidelines for a reason.

Close inactive apps in the background. No need to reset.

My apps randomly minimize themselves and when i reopen them from the background they reload. Why is this happening?

While using any app on my iphone 4 it will randomly minimize the app. Ill double click the home button and it will show the app in the background but when i reopen the app it reloads it. Any idea why this is happening? Ive reinstalled my apps several times and my IOS is up to date.

Reboot.
Restore.
Restore as a new device (do not restore your backup).
If it still misbehaves after restoring as a new device, then make an appointment at the genius bar.
