Apps keep launching on their own

My daughter stepped on my Ipod Touch and now two things are very wrong;
1) the on-off button at the top is sunken in and I cannot press it to turn it off.
2) the ipod keeps launching the apps on its own and then "pressing" different buttons on its own (it's hard to describe) - but it's as though it "thinks" someone is touching it. It mainly only happens on the top right hand corner - close to where the on-off button is - maybe it's related to the first issue above?
HELP PLEASE!
I am unable to use it because it keeps doing stuff on its own - I can't even turn it off so I have to just let the battery drain.

You can try restoring the iPod to factory defults/new iPod to see if that corrects the problem. However, I suspect you have a hardware problem caused by the stepping on.

All windows/applications keep minimizing on their own Windows 8.1

Hi. I turned on my laptop today and suddenly found that all my applications (Chrome, Skype, Norton, etc.) keep minimizing on their own approximately every 1-2 minutes. The mouse is constantly doing this twitch thing (it flickers every second and the little

This is on Windows 8.1 (please no Windows 7 exclusive answers. They're all I can find). I have not recently updated to Windows 8.1. I updated a few weeks ago (it was a forced update).
And I don't think I have ioBit.
Update: This thing called whiteskyservices (http://services.whiteskyservices.com/addons/chrome/install.aspx?id=eeihfhnbnfemlajfadhbpdfiipncebl) popped up asking for a Constant Guard update (I never update Constant Guard, it's horrible). I x'ed out and the
mouse flashing I mentioned has stopped, but the random minimizing has not.
Update: I tried to disable Superfetch, that didn't work either.
Update: Sometimes, it minimizes and then returns back to the window.
Update: My mouse has erratically begun doing the flickering thing again.

I can’t open and test the link you provide, please check. Share us a screenshot if you willing to.
Please explain a bit about the following questions to avoid misunderstanding:
1. Do you mean that the Windows 8 automatically upgrade to Windows 8.1 a few weeks ago?
2. Is this computer domain-based?
3. Does everything minimize on their own? Windows explorer, desktop apps and metro apps?
4. What is the result about the Norton scan?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. As this is a laptop, please check if the mouse flickering caused by the touchpad. Please update the touchpad driver to the last version from the manufacturer website and check if this issue still exists.
2. Unplug the mouse and check if this issue still exists
3. Run the Anti-virus software to scan malware.

Apps launching on their own

Today while using Net News Wire, the app crashed, and the Scrabble app launched all by itself. Has anyone else experienced this type of behavior? I can see an app crashing from time to time, but to have another one launch on its own is very weird.

I think following the software troubleshooting path would allow you to eliminate software as a problem. If you eliminate that, then it would have to be some hardware issue. Not sure if your phone is still under warranty, but if you can demonstrate that you've done all of the software troubleshooting you can, and you are still under warranty, you could get a replacement phone at the Genius bar.

Can my colleagues access my itunes account and all of the apps in there from their own pcs? What we really need is a shared itunes account so that anyone in the office can add apps to the account and everyone else will be able to access it?

I have an itunes account to update the office ipad. Now we have more of them can my colleagues access my itunes account including the apps to update their ipads with? it seems silly for everyone to have a seperate account and purchase apps that i have already bought. We just want to share and update one account that everyone can use and access from their own pc.

Unless I am missing the point here - or in the event that there are different terms and conditions for the use of iPad in the Enterprise with regard to iTunes purchases - once you have purchased an app - you are free to download that app again - at no charge - to as many iDevices as you desire - as long as you are using the same Apple ID and iTunes account that you used to make the original purchase.
So the short answer to the question - IMHO - is Yes! My wife, my daughter and I share one iTunes account and we download apps onto four different iDevices - and only pay for the apps once. The purchases are tied to the Apple/iTunes account and not to the PC or the iDevice.
The only caveat to this point is - I have no idea how Apple handles purchase for businesses meaning that I don't know if businesses are subject to the same terms and conditions as we "everyday" users.
Maybe the company could set up one iTunes account and you could all share from there but I still don't see why this can't be done. However, that is why I suggest that this question might be better served being posted in the iPad in the Enterprise section of the ASC.

My browser pages keep refreshing on their own about every 5-10 min what can I do to stop this?

I had to replace my my hard drive. Since I replaced it and re-installed FireFox my web pages refresh on their own about every 5-10 min. Also as I am typing sometimes the cursor will jump to a prior point so I am typing in the middle of a word or whatever happens to be there. Is this a problem with my re-install or is there a setting some where that I don't know about? This happens every day.

In case anyone has this same issue ... my iPhone did stop doing this on its own. I can't tell you anything other than to keep trying. It took about two days, but it eventually allowed me to enter the information without resetting.

Parental Controls app settings keep changing on their own

I manage a lab and have setup Parental Controls to allow certain apps. However, later students will launch an app. that I have enabled and get the dialog box saying it isn't allowed. I go back and check parental controls for that computer and the app is now unchecked.
1) how can I keep this from happening?
2) is there a preferences file somewhere that I can save and then just upload from time to time?

I suspect your students are smarter than you think they are
Be sure nobody knows the admin password. Change it to be sure and make sure nobody is looking.
Be sure nobody has a Leopard DVD handy.
Be sure all users are non-admin types.
Check all 3rd party apps installed on the machines.
You can also check the console logs on the machines to see how and when the change occurred.

IBook g3 900mhz Apple Apps keep quitting on thier own

I have an iBook g3 900mhz 384mb 40Gb. I have Tiger installed. I have re-installed tiger and reformated the HD many times but here's my issue. Apps like Safari quit unexpectedly. .dmg files cannot expand due to a codec overrun. at first start up everything is fine then after a while everything starts quitting internittently. Odd thing is I DO NOT get the Application has unexpectedly quit message just all of a sudden the app is not running and has quit. Usually I can restart the app and then it starts all over again.
I could not even install the 10.4.11 update because the .dmg wont expand (which I had to download direct from apple because when running software updater it says updates are available but nothing shows in the update window
I have tested this with absolutely no third party software repeatedly and it all happens again. Just what comes with the OS and the Apple apps that are included. Quicktime always quits when I launch it. There is over 30GB available on the HD and again no third party software installed.

No iBook G3 (Dual USB) requires a firmware update.
Have you tried creating a new user account, logging out and logging back in as the new user, and checking to see if a new user has the same trouble?
Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode? This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk. If you haven't tried this, please do. You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out.

SMS keep disappearing on their own!

My SMS keep on deleting itself without my confirmation. I've tried everything to save them, but they still keep deleting automatically.!!
I've changed all options so that the messages stay on my phone forever, I've tried deleting as many apps as I can from App World and I've archived the ones I don't use, but it still does not do me any favours!
The application memory still shows that theres around 20mb left, and I find that it is ridiculous that you can only save the apps on a device memory. I also have updated my validity period.
Is there any way of being able to save the messages on a memory card??
I've never seemed to have had this problem before until i changed my BlackBerry for the 3rd time.
Is there any possible solution to this?!?!

Tabs keep opening on their own even though I only work in new windows.

Since the last Thunderbird update I'm having trouble with random(?) emails opening in tabs, even though I don't use tabs. It's annoying to have to keep closing all these tabs that I didn't open and don't even use in any way. It's a distraction. I'd just disable the tabs bar altogether if that was possible, but I guess it's not an option.
In Tools-Options-Advanced-Reading&Display, I have selected "Open messages in - a new message window", as it's been for a long time. When I click on an email, that setting works normally. I've read that double-clicking an email can cause it to open in a tab, but I can't reproduce that behavior, so I don't believe that's the cause. When I notice the random open tabs, its usually right after starting up Thunderbird for the day. There are usually three open email tabs. I don't leave emails open when I close the program at night - I just haven't figured out a pattern or cause for this annoying behavior. Seems like a bug to me, and I can't seem to stop it from happening. Any ideas?

Some apps started downloading on their own when I downloaded a different one.

I was downloading an app from the App Store. When I tapped on the download button for it, several others started downloading at the same time. I was able to get refunds for a couple, but it says the others are in eligible for a refund. I stopped the downloads before they we're complete. How do I get refunds for these things that sold themselves to me without my permission?

Don't have a bluetooth keyboard but could it be a result of low battery?

Mail app keeps launching Safari

Google Chrome is set as the default browser (and yes, I've verified that this is the case in Safari's preferences).
If I click a link from within a Mail message, Chrome is launched (as expected).
But if I select text in a Mail message, right-click that text, and select "Search in Google", Safari is always launched.
Can someone please verify or point me towards a work-around?

I just checked and the same thing happens for me. It looks like "Search in Google" is hard-coded to use Safari.
You can use Automator to make a new service which will search Google with your default browser:
Launch Automator and choose Service as the template for the new workflow.
Add "Run Shell Script" (found under Utilities) to the workflow by dragging it to where it says "Drag actions here to build your workflow".
Change "Pass input:" to "as arguments".
The text field should have four lines now, starting with "for f in..." and ending with "...done". Delete all the text in this field.
Type this command in the text field:
open http://www.google.com/search?q=$1
Save the workflow with whatever name you want to use for the menu item (I named mine "Google in Default Browser"). Now when you right click on selected text, you will see your command at the bottom of the contextual menu.

Push notification settings changing on their own

I have an iPhone 4 and so does my wife. We understand how to set push notifications on our phones for different apps.
On my wife's iPhone, the push notifications for whatsapp and viber keep switching on their own from Alerts to Banners.
We do not understand why this keeps on happening, time after time. Basically every time the Phone is powered off and back on again.

I've been on Pay As You Go from the start so it's not a contract SIM but there was a little card in with SIM when I bought the phone that said to change the setting to idata as O2 had just changed it, so I did that, but since the data outages that O2 had a couple of months ago that setting didn't work so looking for a solution I found out about changing it to payandgo and that worked but keeps changing back.
Maybe it thinks that idata is what it should be, but I don't even have to sync the phone to iTunes for the setting to change back to idata, its like O2 are sending a signal to the phone to change it back or something or maybe the idata is set on the SIM and the Phone checks that from time to time and overwrites the way it is in the Cellular Data Network settings screen, very odd and infuriating either way.
There has to be a way to fix this, anyone have a clue?

I'm not familiar with the Belkin cover, but you could try removing the cover and reboot the iPad and see how that goes.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

We do this in my family now. We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores). Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud. That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup. That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice. You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.

Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response. What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures. Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures. 1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

My kids are linked to my itunes account. How do I set them up under their own accounts/credit cards without losing any of their music, apps etc?

Basically there are 3 users , each with their own iphones using the same username, password and credit card to purchase stuff. I want to give one of them their own personal account and a different card but obviously keep their current songs. They are set up as 3 different users on a Windows PC. Thanks all!!!

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your children are under 13, you should open 2 new accounts for yourself and let them use it. They can use these ID's for iCloud and so have their own email! contacts! calendars etc, but still share your original ID for iTunes for apps, music, etc. You can continue to sync them with your computer.
