Apps lock-up, can't force quit...HELP!

I just installed Camino, and now have it as my default browser. I quite like it, but I am having trouble getting it to quit, from the dock, or when it's open.
When I try to shut down, I get error messages that state: Camino will not quit; force quit? or something, and when I choose the force quit option from this message, it still won't quit.
I also get the error msg. 'Logout failed/timed-out/cannot quit MirrorAgent'.
MirrorAgent???? Any suggestions would be most helpful; this board has been my best resource yet!

When you installed Camino did you drag the application to your Applications folder, or do you still have the .dmg? If you have the .dmg you may be running it from there. To quit Camino open Utilities/Activity Monitor/MyProcesses, then choose Camino and "Quit Process" from the AM menu bar.

I downloaded the iOS7 and I can't force quit the open apps. I was told, "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it." Unfortunately, that didn't work. Any comments please & thank you

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Prior to loading 1OS7 it was easy to force quit applications that were still open by double clicking and seeing an a red "x" you had to click on.
It doesn't work that way with the new operating system and the instructions that were given "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it."
    Do not work.
I am looking for anyone who can help figure this out.

  • Applications Freezing in Dock - Can't Force Quit

In the past month I've been experiencing a reoccurring problem where my applications tend to freeze for absolutely no reason, and I can't Force Quit them. Every other day it's been Skype that freezes for no reason, and I have to totally reboot to shut down the programme, but today it's Firefox too. I tried using Terminal and Activity Monitor, however when the programmes are frozen, even though it still shows as running in my Dock, they don't appear as active on either Utilities (so I can't kill them). What can I do? This problem happens so frequently I'm losing my mind.

I have just started having the same problem, with applications that freeze. When I force quit them, they appear to shut down (their windows close) but they are still highlighted in the dock and are still listed as unresponsive in the force quit window. If I try to shutdown the laptop, it says it can't shutdown because of whatever application. I have to manually reboot.
Some observations- I have tried logging in as a different (guest) user, the problem still persists. It now happens every time with Skype, iChat, Firefox, Safari, Software Update and weirdly enough, System Preferences. Other apps like Word run fine. So it seems like it might have something to do with Airport or internet settings. If I turn my Airport off, I can then open and close Safari just fine. With Airport on, instant spinning beachball. I have noticed the fan working overtime during all of this - however the fan has been working overtime often lately.
Sadly I'm travelling so I can't do anything involving the install disks, and I'm quite a hike away from a Genius Bar! Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Looks like you didn't see the note about what should be posted here. Please read the note at http://forums.adobe.com/community/robohelp/robohelp_flash where you will see this is not the place to get help on using Flash.
Your post can be moved to either of the locations shown there or to http://forums.adobe.com/community/production_studio

I am assuming your mouse works for all other applications. If not it sounds more like a Dell issue.

  • ITunes volume changes itself / Can't Force Quit.

My iTunes volume changed itself to a third of the way up, and now I can't change it. If I move the volume slider it just automatically goes back to where it was. I also can't force quit iTunes! It even won't let me shut down because of it. Any ideas?

Open Activity Monitor in Application/Utilities. You can monitor your applications there to see how much CPU or real memory they are using. Selecting the CPU column will sort the highest on top for easy viewing. You can also force quit an application in Activity Monitor.
Another option to Force quit is to use the commands. Command-Option-Esc. This brings up a Force Quit window.
Since the symptoms affect many applications, I would first download and install the latest Apple combo updater. They install over the same version and will go back and refresh all files unlike an incremental updater that only adds new files. If the combo doesn't work, you might need to do an "Archive & Install".

  • IMac frozen in mail can't force quit turned off at power and done safe reboot still frozen?

iMac frozen in mail can't force quit turned off at power and tried safe reboot, but still frozen?

To do the NVRAM reset (be quick with Step 4, "immediately" is literal!):
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    ‘command’ – ‘option’ – ‘P’ – ‘R’
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as it should.

  • ARGH! iTunes Freezes, Can't Force Quit, and Whole Computer Locks Up

iTunes freezes when downloading movies (says to check network connection, which is fine), then I can't quit iTunes or force quit. I "quit" and it remains active in the dump at the bottom of the screen.  Then Safari freezes and I can't do anything but use the on/off switch to re-boot. I've removed iTunes and re-installed. Didn't fix the problem.
Of note, iTunes downloads a little bit at a time the movie files, so after off and on rebooting and trying to re-download each time, after a few days the movies eventually download.
    Any ideas?

I have the problem when I have to force quit. I also have the pinwheel for no apparent reason and have to wait until it stops to do anything. It is frustrating as it does not happen in Safari. I like to use Firefox but it is getting very annoying. I have the pinwheel pop up when I am even typing. I tried your suggestions about starting it up in safe mode and that doesn't seem to work.

  • After installing AdBlock Plus I can't quit Firefox without force quitting - help!

I installed Adblock plus and immediately noticed several issues.
It took forever to bypass the NY Times opening ad and get to the real front page - troublesome, and time-consuming but at least I avoided the ad.
More importantly, I couldn't quit Firefox without force quitting. If I used Command Q or selected Quit Firefox from the menu, I got the spinning beachball of death.
When I disabled Adblock, the problem persisted. When I uninstalled Adblock Plus the problem was resolved and I could quit Ff in my usual manner.
Any solutions here or do I just forget about Adblock Plus - too bad, it seems like a great idea even though it slowed down NYT (it was faster just hitting the skip ad button after I uninstalled Adblock Plus)

    Problem solved.
Trashed folder for Adblock Plus and reinstalled.
Disabled Status-4-Evar and Adblock Plus works and I don't have to force quit to get out of Firefox.

  • Browsers locking up - unable to force quit

i just recently did a clean install of Leopard on my otherwise quite reliable macbook. before installation, i zeroed out the drive, then installed the OS, got all the updates, then restacked the programs.
no matter what browser i use, either Safari or FF, the BBOD appears unpredictably and the whole computer locks up - i can't even force quit anything. it happens whether i have multiple apps open or not... or multiple tabs open in the browser; and ultimately i have to hold down the power button to shut down the machine.
things i have already tried to fix this:
    1. repairing permissions & resetting PRAM
    2. shutting the machine down & restarting more frequently
    3. reinstalling the OS again and restacking programs
    4. resetting the Airport base station & cable modem
    5. clearing the cache every day
    my question is this:
has anyone else out there been experiencing this and if you have fixed it, what have you done to correct it?
    thanks

    and the answer is:
    it's just my machine. right?

  • My MacBook has been "moving to trash" 4 items for a LONG time now.  I can't force quit this or stop it in any way. Does anyone know how I can get this to stop, I'm pretty sure its slowing my whole system down because it is constantly working on this.

"Moving Items to Trash" has been up on my desktop for days now. I don't know who to get rid of this and believe its slowing my WHOLE system down.  Does anyone know how I can get rid of this, cancel it, forece quit, or anything? HELP!

  • How to get an app to run again without forcing quit.

I was working on a paper and have multiple Word windows open. Once I logged on to my computer, I could not use/edit the current window that was open. I opened another window that was minimized and that one did not respond. I opened all of them and they all have the spinning rainbow thing that makes you wait until it loads. I would force quit, but I have unsaved documents (my paper). I did create a document which is saved in a folder on my desktop, but I worked on it since the last time I saved it and I do not know how much I would lose if I forced quit. Is there any way I could close other apps, delete downloads or create space (I am guessing that will help it load) that will allow it to load? I do not remember the last update I installed. I am almost positive I have not updated it from Mavericks to Yosemite.

if you force quit you loose everything. If you have no choice but to force quit your best bet is to restart the computer before you attempt to launch the application again to rule out a corrupt session. If the problem persists it could be a bug in the app, an incompatibility with something else running or permission issue.
reboot, if the problem persists try quitting out of all open applications and repairing permissions
    Macintosh HD:Applications:Utilities:Disk Utilities
click your boot drive, click REPAIR PERMISSIONS and let it finish.

  • Mac app store runs/searches continuously - force quit

I was notified there is an update through the Mac App Store. However, when I enter the store and then the updates, it continuously searches and never stops (well, for and hour I let it run). I cannot stop the search nor can I install the update I was notified existed. The app must be force-quit to exit as 'Quit' and 'red dot' do nothing. How can I get the app to complete its search and/or install the existing update?
