Apps no longer want to update

Recently (last 2-3 months) my app updates have been accumulating in my Mac App Store. Every time I click update and enter my correct password, the little "loading" pinwheel appears in the top left-hand corner stating that 'something' is happeneing, but nothing actually downloads or updates! I am perfectly capable of buying and downloading new apps though; it's just when updating or redownloading apps that had been deleted that I have issues.
I don't get any error codes, just a Mac App Store window that remains open for hours, hoping that something will eventually happen, but to no avail obviously.
Any ideas? Previous experiences? Fixes?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

I had another Lion-related issue that was just solved doing a Safe-Mode boot and it indirectly solved this issue as well...

Welcome to the Apple community Mickeymom.
The apps are not actually in your iCloud storage, they are links to the apps in the App Store. What you are seeing is your purchase history and as such cannot be deleted.
You can however hide your purchases, which you can do from the QuickLinks > Purchased option from the main page in the iTunes Store on your computer.

  • 3rd Party Apps No Longer Work After Update

I just got my iPhone today and installed a few apps, Cube and GuitarChords. Both apps were working fine earlier. Later I connected the phone to my PC and it requested that I perform an update to v2.2, which I did. After the update, neither app would start. When I pressed the icon, it seemed to start for a few seconds then went back to the main screen. I reinstalled the apps and GuitarChords worked, but Cube still wouldn't start. I then did a hard reset (holding home and lock button) and now neither app will open again. All the apple apps start fine. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get the apps working again?
On a similar note, how would you guys rate the stability of the iPhone at this time. I mostly use my phone for business, so if it's still pretty buggy I'd like to return it and get back on my Win Mobile phone for now. Thanks in advance!

    IT DID IT AGAIN!!!
I didn't change or update anything. I was using the Touch Term ssh client this morning and it was working fine. I tried using Win Admin later this afternoon and it wouldn't start, none of the 3rd party apps would. Again I tried the soft and hard resets. I even tried resetting the phone in the general menu. After looking around online, I see that this is an extremely common issue. I'm going to return the iPhone tomorrow and have my Tilt reactivated.
I don't know if Apple monitors these forums, but if so they should take note; if they intend to make a dent in the enterprise market, stability needs to be a top priority. Sure, Windows Mobile doesn't have a very pretty or friendly interface, but it's quite reliable. In the year that I had my Tilt, it crashed once, and that was the fault of buggy software I had installed. Honestly, this being the first Apple product I've personally owned leaves a poor impression of the brand. I know Apple can do better, I manage several Macs at work and I almost never get support calls from those users. I really like the iPhone, and hopefully Apple can get their priorities straight and work out the issues, as I would like to give it another go in the future.
Thank you again to those who responded to my question earlier.

  • Applications constantly want to updating.

App Store, constantly wants to update software that it has already done so, why?
I am using OSX10.9.4 and everyday I am caught in a loop of updating apps my applications.
Once I do so (using App Store), it says successful. Then, as expected, the Application appears below stating it has been done in the last 30 days.
When I look in the Apps Purchased tab, there they all are - asking to still be updated. I can close the Purchased tab and visual confirmation again says all has been done. So, happily I close the App Store. Only to get a notification either one hour later or the next day - for all the exactly same software to be updated. Same date and versions too as last time. Caught in a endless loop here. IS there anything I can do?
Used OnyX to see if anything is wrong system wise - tried fixing permissions, also. Nothing seems to work.
I can wait until OSX10.10 or whatever its numbered OS11 - to see if a clean install will solve this.
But maybe there is a fix? - Anyone else out there having this issue? Thanks.

Hmmmm, now there is something I forgot to mention. I do have a failed iPhoto update that shows in my Purchased Tab.
Maybe that has something to do with this trouble.
In addition, 1Checker, BaanCounter, iBooks Author and iProcrastinate - are 4 apps that I had uninstalled long ago, before this trouble started  Still, Apps Store wants to update these four Apps that are not even in my computer. In total, I have 17 Apps that the App Store wants to update daily-- updating them with versions of the same numeration. Its rather tiring and annoying to see each day.
Also - I have done two things.
    1) ignore the updates
    2) let it occur - and yes all update just fine... yet in seconds App Store says these 17 apps require updating.
    Is it Permissions? What?

  • I've updated to Maverick and now my iPhoto app won't work until updated. The problem I'm experiencing is that my Apps store won't grant me access to update the app. help.

Included are screen grabs of some of the message prompts I'm recieving when attempting to update my iPhoto app.
*side note: my operating system recently crashed, and my comptuer was wiped, so 'salvaging' photos from the current app is not a factor since they've been backedup externally already.

Please test after each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Select the Purchases page in the App Store and locate the app(s) in your purchase history. If there's a button markedACCEPT on the right, click it.
    Step 2
If you're trying to update iLife or iWork apps that were installed from a purchased DVD, or if you have a refurbished Mac bought directly from Apple, contact App Store customer service for a redemption code. You may be asked for the part number of the DVD.
    Step 3
From the App Store menu bar, select
    Store ▹ View My Account
Enter your Apple ID password at the prompt. At the lower right corner of the window that opens, click the Reset button. Close the window.
    Step 4
If you have a used Mac, the bundled apps were linked to the original owner's Apple ID and can't be transferred to you. Reportedly, customer service has issued redemption codes to some second owners who asked, but it's not guaranteed.
    Step 5
Delete the app(s) you want to update and reinstall them.

  • I can no longer update apps on my iPhone or iPad1.  It keeps asking me to agree to new terms, which I do, then stops and asks again over and over. Please help. I do not want to update to a new iOS

I can no longer update apps on my iPhone 4 or my iPad 1 because it keeps asking me over and over to agree to new terms, so I do that and it still does not work.  Just around and around in a circle.  I do not want to update software. I like what I have.

Pay attention to the numerous posts on this tonight.....try again tomorrow.

  • I created a new ID for my Iphone, because the old ID was an email address I no longer have. Also, the phone wouldn't recognize the password I have always used. Now the problem is when I try to update my apps, it automatically wants to use the old ID.

I created a new ID for my Iphone, because the old ID was an email address I no longer have. Also, the phone wouldn't recognize the password I have always used. Now the problem is when I try to update my apps, it automatically wants to use the old ID. I've set the new ID for the phone, but it defaults to the old one when asking for a password to update apps.

That's because all apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them, & can only be updated using that ID.
To use your new ID with these apps, you'll have to delete them, then repurchase. Or, contact iTunes support, explain the situation, & ask that they add these apps to the download queue of your new ID.

  • HT5622 My apps are not updating as I have no longer access to my eariler apple Id and now I am using a new apple Id which is allowing to download  apps but while updating those apps my iPod wants eariler apple Id password to update what should I do ?

    Hi Kanishk,
Those apps are forever tied to the Apple ID they were purchased under. You can either delete them and re-purchase them, or you can go to Manage your Apple ID and reset the password on the old Apple ID so you can use it to update your apps: Apple - My Apple ID
If you decide to continue to use them under the old ID password, I would suggest that when you reset that password, you change it to be the same password as the one you are currently using. That way when apps need to be updated you will only need to know one password and you won't have to be concerned with which Apple ID is displaying.
    Cheers,

  • I have an iPhone 4S. It is showing one Apple I.D. when I want to update my apps, and another (the one I want to keep) everywhere else. How can I delete the unwanted one?

I have an iPhone 4S. When I want to update an app, it asks me for a password for an Apple I.D. I no longer use, because I don't know the password for it. The rest of the places where my I.D. Is listed, like in iTunes, has the password I want to use. How can I get the phone to disable the unusable I.D. and substitute the one I have the password for?

It should be Noted that anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.

  • My old email comes up when I want to update my apps.and I know that email is old and I don't use it.however I don't have a password for it so am unable to update.how can I delete it? And have my current email for that

My old email come up when I want to update my apps.however I don't use that password at all,I've even had a message saying its not in use. I can't update them though which is really annoying! I've tried setting up that email again and change password but doesn't work at all.does anyone know how I can get rid of and use my current email?

Hi there, this problem has probably been resolved now, but I must say that I came across these posts today as I had the same problem, my old e mail kept popping up, but all sorted now!  Old Apps are not tied to the old Apple ID, honestly!
Rudegar is so right, all you do is go the SETTINGS/iTunes & App Store, then select `Apple ID` `Sign Out` then you get the chance to enter your new ID, and it worked a treat!
Good luck with anyone else with this problem, as I spent so long on this, really stupid!
PS you`ll need to again verify bank details

  • IPod Touch App Store no longer can find updates

This is real frustrating, and short of reformatting my iPod (which I am NOT going to do) I haven't been able to get this thing to work anymore. I tried turning WiFi off and on, logging out and then back into my itunes account, closing all running programs, rebooting, syncing to iTunes, etc.
It started about 2-3 days ago, I had about 5 apps that had updates, but I didn't choose to update just yet. Anyway, when I did want to update last night, the App Store was now saying that there are no updates.
The WiFi connection is working fine, I can still search apps in the App Store and install them, but the update feature appears to be broken now. When I go to updates it searches for a few seconds then claims "All Apps Are Up to Date" when I am fully aware that they are NOT.
Any idea what could be causing this issue and how to fix it?

Did the Apps get updated in your iTunes on your computer, which was then Synced with your Touch, and that's why they're no longer showing up?
If not, a couple of things you could do as a test:
    1. In your iTunes/Apps library, click on the *Check for updates* button and see if anything happens.
+Of course, the original 5 Apps may not show up if they're now up to date, and there maybe "other" Apps that appear on the list to replace those. Nothing we can do about that. However, if you are still convinced there are Apps requiring updates, try the next thing:+
    2. Look at the Apps in your iTunes library using the *As list* view. Make sure the version column is showing. Check the version number against the version shown in the Store for that App. I realise this could be a long process if you have a lot of Apps. If so, the last option is:
    3. Do nothing. A check will be automatically made each time you acces the Store via the Touch's Wi-Fi, so any updates will appear at another time. And you can manually click the *Check for updates* button in your computer's iTunes whenever you wish.
I suppose it's possible that an update may get pulled if the developer realises there is still a problem - or even, a worse problem than before. I've never known that to happen, but it's either that or it remains one of life's great mysteries.
