Apps not using gtk theme

Strange thing happens:
I have installed some applications (firefox, pidgin, clementine, vlc) when gnome was not even installed (through xterm), and they seem to ignore the gtk theme I'm using.
What should I do?

It's the theme from Linux Mint. I've basically copied the folders to /usr/share/themes and .themes.
Everything works fine except for these apps which were installed before gnome. I'm guessing it's all about some configurations that were made.
EDIT: changed the theme but the issue is still there.

  • Using gtk-theme-switch

I hate to trouble the the forum with this question, particularly so since I directed it to the package's developer about a week ago and have not received the courtesy of an answer.
Am I correct to assume that in using gtk-theme-switch to set fonts that, once set, the same font is then used for all applications employing gtk-2? Looking at the program's little interface, I can't see how one might use it on, say, one program, then another one and so on. Precisely how is this thing used anyway?

    RdsArts,
    Thanks for your reply.
I do not use a desktop environment, rather I use a WM and launch all applications from the WM's menu. If I understand you, when you say "It sets the 'base font' other GTK+2 apps use", you're saying that if I use gtk-theme-switch to set lucida 12, for example, the tool bar and menu fonts in all gtk+2 applications would be set to lucida 12 thereafter. Am I right about that?

I am making my first keynote presentation.  I transferred the slides from a power point.  I did not use a 'theme' from keynote.  Keynote will not let me 'name' the presentation and the 'save as' option will not come up in the menu.  What have I done wrong

When it comes to Keynote, I try and start with a presentation that's 1680 x 1050 preset or something in that range.  Most projectors that you'll get at a conference won't project much higher than that and if they run at a lower resolution, it's better to have the device downsize your Keynote.  Anything is better than having the projector try and upsize your presentation... you work hard to make it look good, and it's mangled by some tired Epson projector.
As far as slides go, scan them in at 150 dpi or better, and make them at least the dimensions of your presentation.  Keynote is really only wanting 72dpi, but I do them at 150, just in case I need to print out the presentation as a handout later, and having the pix at 150 dpi gives me a little help with their quality on a printer.
You'd probably have to drop in the 150 versions again if you output the Keynote to .pdf or Word or something, but at least you have the option.
And Gary's right (above) go ahead and scan them as TIFFs.  Sooner or later you'll want to do something else with these slides (like make something for an iPad or the like) and having them as TIFFs keeps your presentation looking good.
Finally, and this is a big one, get to the location for your presentation ahead of time if you can, and plug the laptop in and see what you get.  There's always connection problems. Don't let the AV bonehead tell you everything will work just fine ('... I don't have any adapters for a Mac...') .  See it for yourself... you're the one that's standing up there.  Unless it's your boss, then you better be really sure it works.

  • [SOLVED] Having trouble making QT apps use GTK theme

Hello everyone, I'm having trouble making QT apps use my GTK theme in openbox.
Some apps seem to work just fine but others don't.
^Such as above, as you can see VLC is working, as is qtconfig, but k9copy and k3b are not.
I've did the suggestions that are listed in the wiki. (http://tinyurl.com/ybhb7yr)
And even rebooted after I did them, still no go.
    My .gtkrc-2.0 file simply contains:
    gtk-theme-name="Clearlooks_blackblue"
    gtk-icon-theme-name="Tango"
Does anyone have any ideas why it's not working with k9copy and k3b/how to fix it?
    Thanks.

Yes, but don't they use QT?
And if not, what do they use? lol. And is there anyway to make them use my GTK theme?

  • Running GNOME apps in Xfce; not detecting GTK+ theme

I primarily use Xfce4 as my desktop environment, but with some GNOME apps such as file-roller and gedit. It appears that GNOME apps no longer detect the current GTK+ theme while using Xfce. They just use the horrible, blocky default theme. This seems to have started after an update about a month ago, and reinstalling the system didn't fix it. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help is appreciated.

    Kinux wrote:
I had the same problem. Searching the forums, the solution for me was to :
    pacman -S gnome-themes-standard
And then a symbolic link to gtk3 theme :
    ln -s /usr/share/themes/Adwaita/gtk-3.0 ~/.config/
This way the new gedit or fileroller use the Adwaita theme while normal Xfce programs use the one I set in Appearance settings.
    Hope this helps you too.

I set this at build time "OXYGEN_FORCE_KDE_ICONS_AND_FONTS 0", I don't know how it's controlled from user-space. But in any case, that's why, and that's what you should disable.

  • ABAP Webdynpro reports in portal do not use portal theme for some elements

    Hi,
I have an ABAP webdynpro screen which uses, amongst other things, a date navigator and drop down lists.  All aspects of the portal theme seem to be picked up by the webdynpro except the date navigator and drop down lists.  They don't even use the SAP standard ones.  They display as plain text using TimesNewRoman font and not the ones specified in the theme.  They also do not use any of the colours in the theme.  All tables and fields etc are all themed ok.  Any ideas how I can fix this?

  • IPad mini apps not using the internet.

There is an issue with my sister's iPad mini where when she's connected to our home internet, only some of her apps use the internet and others don't. For example, while Safari and My Singing Monsters work (thats pretty well the only two apps that work with the internet), the App store, iTunes, Google, Youtube and every other app that requires internet doesn't. She's connected to our internet (it even says in Wi-fi that she's connected) but for some reason almost all her apps (not every app) acts as if she had no connection. Our internet is fine. It works with every other device in our house so its something to do with the iPad mini itself. Pretty well, she has internet connection but most of the apps act as if she doesn't.

    Hello Zoruzero,
The first thing I would suggest checking is ... another Wi-Fi network.  Does your sister have the same issue when she is in a different location? (home, work, local coffeehouse?).
Here are the basic troubleshooting steps for Wi-Fi connectivity:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204051
Make sure your router is on and that you're within range.
If you're too far from your router you won't get a signal, so make sure you're within range.
Make sure Wi-Fi is on and that you can see your network.
Tap Setting > Wi-Fi and make sure Wi-Fi is turned on. Tap the name of your Wi-Fi network to join. A blue checkmark beside a network name means you're connected.
Get help if you can't turn on Wi-Fi.
If prompted, type in your Wi-Fi password.
If prompted, enter the password for your Wi-Fi network. Learn what to do if you don’t know your password.
Check all of your cables and connections.
If you still can’t connect to your network or get online, make sure your router is connected to the modem and turned on.
    Restart.
For more help, try restarting your device, router, or cable/DSL modem. After each step, check to see if you fixed the issue.
      • Restart your iOS device.
      • Unplug your router and plug it back in.
      • Unplug your cable or DSL modem and plug it back in.
    Still can’t connect?
Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.
    Get more help
If someone else set up your network, ask them for help. If you’re using a network at a company, school, hotel, store, or other free Wi-Fi location, find an employee for assistance.
If you're connected to a Wi-Fi network but you can’t get online, try to use your Wi-Fi network on other devices. If you can’t get online using your other devices, there might be a service outage. Call your cable company or internet provider for help.
Try connecting to a Wi-Fi network in a different location. If your device can connect, you’ll need to get help with your Wi-Fi network. If it can’t connect to any Wi-Fi networks, contact Apple.
Update your Wi-Fi router with the latest firmware and make sure the router supports your Apple product. For more information, contact the manufacturer of your router.
    Hope this helps ...

  • NM-Applet not following GTK theme

    Hello,
I've recently switched from WICD to NetworkManager for my network management, and I have noticed that NetworkManager, refuses to follow my GTK theme, I figured I'm missing a dependency for something, considering it is the only app that doesn't follow it, but I can't figure out what it is.... I've done some searching, and I haven't found anything relating to the issue.
I am running AwesomeWM, but I don't believe that to be causing the problem... nm-applet runs beautifully aside of the GTK theme not showing up. Now, it doesn't really bug me that it doesn't show the theme, since it looks fine until you click on it... but I figured there may be a solution.
My GTK theme is a varient of the GNOME Crux theme, which I do have installed properly...
You can see the difference in styles here...
Now, I have noticed when I start NM-Applet via terminal, I get the following GDK errors.
    [18:26][burchettm@NOVA-FD][~]$ nm-applet --sm-disable
    (nm-applet:6440): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_visual_get_red_pixel_details: assertion `GDK_IS_VISUAL (visual)' failed
    (nm-applet:6440): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_visual_get_green_pixel_details: assertion `GDK_IS_VISUAL (visual)' failed
    (nm-applet:6440): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_visual_get_blue_pixel_details: assertion `GDK_IS_VISUAL (visual)' failed
** Message: applet now removed from the notification area
** Message: applet now embedded in the notification area
Now, I don't know if those GDK errors are the problems with my GTK theme not following the app, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Gah. That sucks. I really like the Crux theme... wonder if I can make or find a port of it... Might look at that when I get back to town... I just symlinked Adwaita's gtk-3.0 into my ~/.config for now.

  • Not using a theme with JSF

I really like JSF but I do not like the theme. Is there a place where I can find a selection of themes or to find a theme that has no look and feel (Regular OS driven buttons and inputs)?

    OK, I found the following:
Exempting a Backup from the Retention Policy
The BACKUP ... KEEP command can create a backup that is retained for a different period of time from that specified by the configured retention policy. The backup is still a fully valid backup, however, and can be restored just as any other RMAN backup. This type of backup is called a long-term backup.
    Note:
The KEEP FOREVER clause requires the use of a recovery catalog.
I am definitely curious as to the suggested backup format for the Yearly backup now, is an image copy any better than an exp? I guess the assumption is that you may be on a newer version of Oracle when the request to restore the archive comes around. Does that factor in?

  • How to Import iMovie and not use a Theme??

    Hello,
I've created a project in iMovie. I want to burn it to a DVD for other to watch and figured the easiest way to do so was to share it to iDVD 6 and burn it from there. I want the project to auto-play aq few seconds after it gets inserted into the player.
The trouble is, I don't want to use a Theme in this project but every-time I "share" the movie, it gets assigned to a theme and I can't figure our how to get rid of the theme. I tried deleting the themes in ~/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Favorites. but they reappear.
    Please Help.
    MBP 2.33 15" 3Gb Glossy, G4 PB 1,25 15" 2Gb   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   2 G4 Towers, 1 is Web Server, the other: Quicksilver 800

The way I like to do it is: Create an autoplay DVD with no menu at http://homepage.mac.com/profpixel/AutostartDVD/autostart.htm
If you don't want the replay feature and would rather have the movie loop (until you quit) - select the movie in the autoplay well and set it to loop.
BTW, I never 'Share' a movie from iMovie. I simply drag and drop the iMovie project on to an iDVD menu (or into the autostart well).

  • Problem to open mac preinstall apps (not all of them)

    Hi there!
I'm new on mac computers and I have a serious problem here. I can't open some preinstalled apps of my Mac! PLEASE HELP!
I use Macbook Pro with Mavericks.
Well, the list below shows the applications that I can't open for some reason. (and I used to open them often)
    contacts
    calendar
    reminder
    maps
    messages
    facetime
    Photo Booth
    iBooks
    App store
    Pages
    Numbers
    Keynote
    Preview
    Quicktime
    Font Book
    Stikies
    Image Capture
    Migration Assistant
    Terminal
    Boot Camp Assistant
    Digital Color meter
    Colorsync Utility
    Grab
    X11
As you can see there are several important apps! The ones with exclamation marks are apps that I use very often!!
This is start to happen, when I delete a big bunch of files from my HD. (appr. 60GB) . I securely empty the trash. The mac crashed and I have to restart it with the unorthodox way. (push the "open" button for few seconds) When I restart it, everything seems to be fine, BUT suddently I realise that the apps from the list above can't open.
I google the problem to find a solution... but nothing...
Then I open "console" and I get a maybe important thing.
When I was trying to open one of those apps, the console shows that : "unable to load nib file: MainMenu, exiting"
WHAT IS A NIB FILE??? AND WHY MY MAC IS UNABLE TO LOAD IT??
    PLEASE HELP!
    Is there any solution ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Jim

You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • New custom Template not using SRM theme when displayed

    Hi All,
I have built a custom ABAP screen for SRM and generated and published the new template. When it runs, though, it looks like an R/3 screen instead of the slick SRM Theme. I generated it as a WebGUI with the standard theme 99.
Any ideas what I must do to this template to make it look and feel like standard SRM?
    TIA,
    Alistair

    Hi folks,
Thanks for the replies. The scenario is this: I have an existing standard Internet Service (BBP_BID_INV) which already uses theme 99. The templates that exist for this service look fine.
I have a Zprogram with a screen to change the standard functionality. I cannot generate a template with theme SL as ITS does not find it (Probably because the service in SICF is already set to 99).
If I generate using theme 99 I get the nasty "old ITS" screen.
The top lines of the generated template are:
    `include(~service="system", ~language="", ~theme="dm", ~name="TemplateLibraryDHTML.html")`
    `SAP_TopInclude()`
    <html>
      <head>
        `SAP_PageTitle()`
        `SAP_Stylesheet()`
        `SAP_JavaScript()`
      </head>
      <body `SAP_BodyAttributes()` onload="`SAP_OnloadJavaScript()`">
Can I just change the top line to ~theme="99" or ~theme="SL"?

  • Production Client Side Apps not using Sun JVM?

Just wondering if anyone here deploys a non-Sun JVM to client machines?
The impression I get is that everyone tends to just stick with the Sun JVM because is easily available and reliable.
However, I'm considering suggesting that our clients move to a different JVM for the performance reasons described below:
I wrote a series of performance tests to measure the time taken to repeat certain common tasks from our apps. I was surprised to find that the BEA JRockit JVM outperformed the SUn JVM by a long, long way in certain tasks, and was slower in none.
Here's a selection of (subjective) results:
Log Lines written per second - Sun 21,000 BEA 29,000
Time taken to call (100000000) methods - Sun .907s BEA .269s
Time taken to call (100000000) sync methods - Sun 17s BEA 12.4s
Time to create big byte array - Sun 125ms BEA 32ms

i would go for the intel/dual-proc optimisation answer for the difference.
Although 50%? Logging to files uses most time with file access. Didn't know that was optimized either. (learning new stuff every day :-)
But then again, 1 great thing about Java: write once, run anywhere (on any JVM, except for mickeysoft: they have their own neat thingie called the M$ VM, which downgrades performance by a 1000% and uses the 1.1.3 spec)
As a thumb rule: either provide the JVM of your choice to your customers and make it mandatory to use that one, or make sure that it runs with (reasonable) performance under the slowest JVM. (p.s. 99% of the users use the Sun JVM for what i've seen, so if you let your clients choose: Sun's the way to go).
