Apps on the original iPhone

Hey, I have the original iPhone with the 3.0 software... For some reason, everytime I try to use an app like Tap Tap, it comes up on the screen then it goes back to the home screen. This is the same with all of the other apps on my iphone. How do I resolve this?
Thanks for your time!

When that happens, it means the app crashed, just like a program on your main computer can crash.
First try a reset:
Hold down both the home button and the sleep/wake button on top for several seconds, ignoring the red OFF slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then the phone will reboot and start up fresh, and clear out any glitches that may be in the memory or anything.

Has anyone else had the issue of losing theYouTube app on the original IPhone after updating to 4.3.5?  (The Restrictions is turned as OFF)
The Youtube app is now cleaned away from the IOS 4.3.5
    Any help would be appreciated.

This still doesn't make sense. The iPhone 4 may have come with a number of different versions of iOS out of the box depending on when it was purchased and how long it had sat on the shelf.
If you can't find it, check restrictions and make sure you haven't locked it out.

  • Is the original iPhone still usable in any way?

Is the original iPhone still usable in any way?

It's a longshot, but what is worth trying is this:
On a computer, use iTunes to download an app.
Once done, on the iPhone, attempt to download the same app. If an older/compatible version is available, you should be prompted to download it.
I wouldn't even try that with apps that cost money unless you have another device to use them on already. But for free apps, it certainly won't hurt.
It is entirely up to the app developer to either leave older version(s) available or pull them so you'll most likely get mixed results and will probably find that many apps do not have older versions available.

  • Does "Find My iPhone" work on the original iPhone?

Does "Find My iPhone" work on the original iPhone, or just the 3G and 3G S? Also, after installing 3.0 on my original, it seems some apps were deleted, like Google and the weather app.

Yes it does work.. but the map accuracy isn't great at all, but workeable
Try to sync from your computer again, and check the apps are there and are checked in the Applications tab of the iPhone page/screen.

  • Anyone jump from the Original iPhone to an iPhone 4?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

I upgraded from original iPhone on July 3rd. I loved the phone, but was worried over all the "antenna" issues so returned it within 30 days. I wanted to wait until end of September to be sure they did not come out with any minor change to the antenna which could affect future resale. I have been an Apple user since the original Mac back in the 1980's. First time I had to return a product -- but it is only temporary.
It was painful moving back to the original iPhone -- here are the main things I liked about the iPhone4 vs original:
3G speed: I ran Speedtest on my original before upgrading and then with the new iPhone 4 from the exact same spot in my house. Original averaged 50 - 100kbs download. iPhone 4 averaged 1200-1500kbs. Web pages loaded much faster.
Maps/Compass: The true GPS is great to know exactly where you are. The original iPhone "fake GPS" maps was not very accurate. There are many free apps that use the GPS. There was a Geo-caching app to track down things people had placed -- fun to do. There are apps you can use to track your route and how far you have gone (great for hiking, bike riding).
Rear Camera: Rear camera is a huge improvement over original. Having a flash really helps. With the new HDR feature in iOS 4.1 coming out, the photos will look even better.
Video -- the video from the rear camera was also good. Not going to replace my dedicated video camera, but produces good quality video when I need it.
Front Camera: didn't get a chance to use FaceTime. This will be better once there are more users. Hopefully Apple will integrate it with all the MacBooks so I can FaceTime to home / family computers.
Retina Display: was clearer, but there seemed to be more hype on this than the actual difference (at least for my eyes).
Multi-Tasking: I definitely miss this already. Very easy to move between apps. Much quicker to navigate.
Folders: I also miss this. Again, much easier to organize apps and get to them quicker.
Tethering: I was lucky enough to get the HandyLight app for the few hours it was up on iTunes. It worked well for tethering my MacBook Pro to the iPhone. I will stay with the unlimited data plan and use this app for the infrequent tethering I may need to do.
Overall speed of launching apps, moving between screens was faster, and typing was faster on iPhone 4. I never noticed the delay on my original iPhone as much until I switched back to it. Especially the lag when typing -- I sometimes type 2-3 letters and then have to wait a second or 2 for it to show up.
    iPhone 4 Cons:
I did find a few times where data would stop working on the 3G network -- never had that problem when on Edge network in same location. Was most likely an issue with AT&T network being overwhelmed vs a phone issue.
Antenna: I always use a case -- afraid to drop it and crack the screen. If I took off the case and held my finger/hand over the antenna gap then I would get a significant drop in signal. At my home, I ran the speedtest covering the antenna -- the download speeds would drop to almost 0kbs. Put the case back on and my data downloads were fine. I also tried leaving the case off and covering the gap with carefully cut Scotch tape -- this also worked fine in solving the problem.
I decided to try this with my original iPhone -- took off the case and covered the lower plastic section. Results were similar -- data dropped to almost nothing.
Final note - Data usage. I was averaging 200 - 250mb per month on my original iPhone. In the first week I had used about 1GB on the iPhone 4. I was using it a lot more, using GPS/Maps more, running Speedtest frequently, etc. Since webpages load faster, I was doing more internet browsing. I would recommend staying with the unlimited data plan when you upgrade.
Hope this helps. iPhone 4 is great and I can't wait to re-purchase it in a month. Either they will have made a minor adjustment (insulated antenna, clear coat finish over antenna) or I will re-purchase it as is. I felt it was worth a couple month wait to protect my phone investment.

  • Is it possible to add music from the music downloader app to the original music app?

I have a bunch of music downloaded on the music downloader app, and i want to play it on the airmusic app, but the airmusic app only shows music from the original music app, and not the music downloader. Is there any way to move my music from the music downloader app to the original music app so it can be played? Sorry if this is confusing to read

I understand what you are trying to do. It's a somewhat complicated process, but here's how it goes:
-Connect your iPod to iTunes and select it in the sidebar. Select "Apps" along the top and scroll down to File Sharing.
-Click on your music downloading app in the apps column. All the music you've downloaded using your music downloading app is downloaded as documents under the app. Select the music files you want, and use the "Save to..." button to save the files to somewhere on your computer (just temporarily), say, Downloads.
-Open Downloads and drag all the newly saved music files into iTunes.
-When the music files finish copying into iTunes, sync your iPod and you should be ready to go.
Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Problem with the original iphone.

i have the original iphone for the past year and half.
i've dropped it many times, but it didn't harm the iphone.
the other day, i dropped it, and it died. it didn't respond to nothing.
until i plugged it to the charger, and to the computer.
than when i pressed the sleep/wake button then it lights up and you can see the apple logo.
but it shuts down again after a minute.
i tried to restart it while it was plugged, so it restarts but goes back to- lighting up and showing the logo.
how can i save my iphone?

Either the battery is not charging properly, or your iPhone is knackered as a result of you dropping it repeatedly. Without seeing it, I would assume it is the latter that has caused the fault. I suggest you take it to an Apple Store or to your network operator and seek some advise as to whether it is repairable or not.

  • Does the SSL cert vulnerability affect the original iphone? CVE-2011-0228

The software update for iOS 4.3.5 claims that a patched vulnerability doesn't affect the original iPhone
Products Affected: iPad, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPhone 3GS, Product Security
Available for: iOS 3.0 through 4.3.4 for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (GSM), iOS 3.1 through 4.3.4 for iPod touch (3rd generation) and later, iOS 3.2 through 4.3.4 for iPad
However, the original security advisory which prompted this security update implies that it is affected:
Version affected:  Versions Prior to 5.0b4, 4.3.5, and 4.2.10
Can anyone clarify if the original iPhone is affected?

    Hi Ramkumar,
The report is complaining that the Certificate Authority who signed the ID certificate presented by the ASA used a weak hashing algorithm. First, you need to determine who signed the certificate.
If the certificate is self-signed by the ASA, you can generate a new certificate and use SHA1 as the hashing algorithm. To do this, the ASA needs to be running a software version that is at least 8.2(4) (8.3 and 8.4 software also support SHA1).
If the certificate is signed by an external CA, you need to contact them and ask them to sign a new certificate for you using SHA instead of MD5.
The links you posted have more information on this as well. Hope that helps.

  • Is the iPad 2 charger the same as the charger for the original iPhone?

My understanding is that the charger that comes with the iPad 2 is more powerful and will charge the iPad 2 more quickly than will the charger that comes with the iPhone 4. However, the iPad 2 charger is the same shape as the charger that came with the original iPhone. Does anyone know whether the iPad 2 charger and the original iPhone charger are identical in function? (BTW, my understanding is that the iPad 2 charger will not charge the iPhone 4 faster than that phone's charger will).

No, they're not the same. I compared mine awhile back and while they're the same shape, the iPad 2 one has writing on it that says "10 W USB Adapter". The one for the original iPhone doesn't have that writing, but if you compare the detailed input-output information, it does show that it is less powerful.
I believe that's why Apple changed to the two different sizes, so you can quickly determine which are for "phone" type devices and which are for "larger" type devices.

  • How can I import not only apps from the old iphone to the new iphone, but also the content of the apps?

How can I import not only apps from the old iphone to the new iphone, but also the content of the apps?

You can sync apps as you normally would, but I do not believe this copies over app specifc data (i.e. saved game status/scores).
You can always restore your new device with a backup from your old device.

  • HT1296 I have the original iPhone and I can't sync the address book from my Mac to the iPhone. What should be the problem and can I sync?

I have the original iPhone and I can't sync the address book from my Mac to the iPhone. What should be the problem and can I sync?

Thanks a lot for the answer. I'm so upset, have no even one contact on my phone. I has to do with the moving to iCloud from MobileMe.
I did exactly what you wrote, and when trying to click the vcf file on the iPhone the screen freezing, and then after few long seconds it goes alon to home.
So I tried less contacts in a Vcard, and i'm dividing my address book, doing little by little and it work.
    Thank you so much.
I still dont get why the sync with my computer address book is not working.
And why when I moved to icloud all the photos I had next to the contacts are disappered.
I had my iPad, which it still, I did not move from MobileMe to iCloud and all the photos are there!
Anything I can do to use the iCloud on the iPad as well and update the iCloud with the photos?
