Apps quit when trying to print

i can not print from any of my applications. i have repaired my disk permissions with no success. i do not know what to do. i have checked the boards but nothing is helping. i am running 10.4.10 and using a canon multifunction printer mp780. i have printed before, so i do not know what the issue is. if it is because of the update i will b e very upset at mr jobs. i thought that the mac was to be problem free -that is why i bought one.

ah - ha!
Basically - because I had just upgraded to the intel based macbook pro from my pb G4, the transfer of all my settings didn't seem to carry over correctly. I'm not sure if you were in the same situation or not...
Go here for instructions to reset all of your printer set up.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301185
You will have to go to system preferences after you reset, and re-add in the printer. I did so, and I'm able to print now. I hope this works for you.

  • Applications quit when trying to print.

First real problem I have ever had with Apple software. When trying to print a web page in Safari the program quits. Then tried to print an Excel (Office 2004) spreadaheet and the same thing. So it is happening in native and Rosetta. Printer is HP LaserJet 1012 attached to an AirPort Extreme. All other Macs in the house have no problems printing. Any thoughts?
    Thanks
MacBook Pro 2.0 GHz, 1G RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I've got a similar problem to the one you answered about inability to print- applications just closing ('unexpectedly closed'). I have reinstalled my wireless printer multiple times, still have programs closing when I try to print (Mail, any type of Browser-Safari, Camino, Netscape, Opera). (No problems with printing on the 2 iBooks & iMac on the network.) I've been on the phone with Apple Tech support- they recommended I do an 'Archive & Reinstall'- no help. I even did a clean install (thinking there was a problem with my migration settings from my old iBook)- still same problem. Any hints? Thanks.

  • All applications unexpectedly quit when trying to print

I recently upgraded my wife's mini from Tiger to 10.5.2. Now when trying to print a document, the pages appear to be scrolling to the printer correctly, then there is an "unexpectedly quit" message.
I've tried repairing permissions. Any suggestions on what else to try?

Thanks - I just got the latest version of Disk Warrior, so I decided to run it. A rebuild of the directory seemed to solve this problem as well as a couple of others.

  • Programs quit when trying to print.

I just installed Mac OS 10.4.10 on my Powermac G4, I used to have Mac OS 10.3.9. After I installed the operating system I tried to print something from Safari 3 BETA. When I clicked print the whole program quit. I thought it was a problem with safari so I downloaded firefox. I tried to print again in firefox and the same thing happened, it just quit. I have tried printing in many different programs and every time the program just quits. I have reset the printers and reset the printer setup utility and I have reinstalled both printers. I can't even get to the print options page in the programs. I click "File" the I click "Print" and the program quits. I have a HP Laserjet P2015 printer that is networked and a HP PSC 750 that is attached with usb. I was able to print in Mac OS 10.3.9 but I can't now.

The first rule in troubleshooting is "fix what you last changed, first." I think you have a problem with your OS X install. First thing to try - download the 10.4.10 updater and re-update. Next try Printer Setup Repair from www.fixamac.net.
If those don't help, I suggest reinstalling OS X using the Archive & Install option in the installer.

  • CS3 - Illustrator and InDesign quits when trying to print

    Hi.
I have posted this on the Illustrator forum as well.
I have just bought a new iMac i7 running OSX 10.7.2. I have reinstalled my version of CS3 and I can open all elements - Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
The problem I am having is that Illustrator and InDesign quit when I try to print. It happens when I use 'command P' and when I go through the file menu. Photoshop doesn't quit when printing.
I can make PDFs of the files and I can print those (although sometimes the PDF won't print through my RIP software).
OS is updated to the latest version. All printer software and RIP is the latest version. InDesign also quit a couple of thimes when I was just selecting a line of type. i
It did it a few times when selecting the same line. I restarted the Mac and all seems OK with that now but I still can't print.
Can anyone shed any light onto this? I tried Adobe and they don't support CS3 any more and their Technical Department suggetsed I try this forum.
I don't want the expense of upgrading my CS3 at the moment.
    Thanks
    Roger

I have had a reply on the Illustrator forum and it has worked for me.

  • Applications Quit when trying to print on HP LaserJet 3055 All-in-one

Just upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11 and my applications quit when I try to print on my HP printer which is on a local network. (I can't scan either) I can still print on my USB Epson printer. I have uninstalled and installed the printer software. Everything worked fine on 10.3. I have repaired permissions. What should I do next?

    Hi Bossless,
Have you checked for the latest drivers on HP's site, their CDs generally come with outdated Drivers, and complicated by the fact that an early 10.4 Driver may not work with 10.4.11
Many hp Drivers need to be uninstalled by hand before installing a newer version, look for directions on the net for that.
    Might try these two...
Mac OS X: About the Reset Printing System feature ...

Might try Printer Setup Repair 5.1...

  • Mail and textedit unexpectedly quit when trying to print anything.

I'm trying to print an email but the stupid applications just quit with no dialog box afterwards. What gives?

Try Reset Printing System, a menu choice in Printer Setup, then restart the Mac, then Add the printer again and try it.

  • Applications Unexpectedly Quit when trying to print

I am trying to print from a iMac G4800 to a Lexmark E322(usb). It's running 10.4.9 and am current on updates but everytime you try to print (word, email, text edit) the application unexpectedly quits.
I've repaired permissions and have updated the Lexmark driver too.
Any ideas on what else I can try? Our school nurse uses this computer and needs to print out many forms and logs, etc. each day.
    Thanks!

Try Reset Printing System, a menu choice in Printer Setup, then restart the Mac, then Add the printer again and try it.

  • Apps Crashing when Trying to Print

Weird thing has started happenning. Whenever I go to print, the app I'm printing from will crash. I don't even get the print dialog box, (where you can choose PDF or which printer you want to print to) it will just beach-ball when I hit Apple-P, then crash. I've tried doing File>Print but the same thing happens.
Only thing that has changed recently was the upgrade to 10.5.1.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Recover your backup and see if the problem persists.
If you made no backup, contact the printer manufacturer and find out if they have updated drivers for 10.5.1. If they don't, you may want to consider one of these printer drivers*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
If none of them work get a printer known to work with 10.5.1, such as the Epson Stylus Photo R220.

  • Updated to OSX 10.4.6-now all apps crash when trying to print

I updated to OSX 10.4.6 and now every time I try to print applications crash. My printer is an Hp 5100tn connected through ethernet. I tried all of the recommended fixes, repair permissions, rebooting, replace the printer queue, etc. This is a HUGE problem. Any suggestions?

    Hello jhewell,
Aside from any misgivings that may be interpeted. . .
I have noticed in our environment, a few things that did not work in the same smooth fashion in 10.4.6 as they did using 10.4.5.
Everyone's environment is going to be a little different, but I do see some common remarks about people being surprised the update makes things worse and not better.
Again - this is not what everyone says.
I have also seen a one issue get better with the 10.4.6 update, but it's more of a convenience thing with login scripts.

  • Acrobat XI Quits When Trying To Print

Recently installed several Adobe products from the Creative Cloud onto my Snow Leopard Mac and whenever I try to print something from Acrobat, it quits. There's a bug in there somewhere but I have no idea how to rectify the situation and use the product to print PDFs. I had to revert to an earlier version yesterday in order to print something. Thoughts?

Install version 1.1 of the Security Update 2012-001. BTW, if you're running Mac OS X 10.6, you have an Intel Mac, not a G5.

  • Purchased Lion two weeks ago Photoshop unexpectedly quits when trying to print. Any ideas?

All suggestions are welcome - please help!

Our Office Manager was having this issue, not with printing, but with crashing in general. We finally did a clean install, installed PS (v CS5), and all the issues went away.
Did you install over the existing software, or did you do a fresh install?

  • Adobe Apps Quit when printing

I am running 16 24' Imac core duo computers in my lab. Printing is managed by my G5 Server. All apple software is updated We are currently using Adobe CS, (waiting for CS3). Adobe products with exception of acrobat quit when printing. In my Imac G5 lab this is not occuring. All users must have accounts, home directeries are located on the server, each user has 2 gigs of space. Server has 6 gigs of RAM each Imac has 3 gigs of RAM. If you login as admin on workstation, printing is fine. Adobe apps quit when printing, project will print but apps quit. Already depressed cause my Packers did not make the playoffs
Could use some help (both me and my Packers:))
    thanks

    Hi
I think I have a solution to your problem – stop supporting the Packers and start supporting the Steelers. Once that happens you’ll find that all Adobe apps wont quit and will print OK.

ave you repaired Permissions and Verified/Repaired DIsk?
    Repair Permissions:
This should be done after all software installs and updates.
    1. Navigate to Utilities/DiskUtility and launch Disk Utility.
    2. Choose your volume (usually the second icon)
    3. Choose "First Aid" tab
    4. Click on "Repair Permissions"
Also run "verify" disk. If the disk needs repair:
    Repair Disk:
    Steps for using Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc or Install Disk 1 that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair.
If you repair errors run it until no errors found.
