Apps Update on mac pro

Hello, my Mac Pro will not update my apps. It says I havent owned the major version of the software.
Why can't I update my apps? Please help.

What applications are you trying to update and what version are they?
Have you checked there are updates available from the manufacturers website?

what a long post....Apple, btw, does not read this stuff, so ranting, raving, and complaining here might make you feel good, but it does no good at all. That being said, I, too have a Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon with 6 gigs of ram and an nVidia 8800 GT graphics card (not as good as yours, alas) and I've had no problems at all with it. Yes, it doesn't have Thunderbolt, but maybe we Mac pro owners will get lucky and someone will come out with an adapter (probably not). No, you probably don't have to throw away your Mac Pro, but if you do, I'll take it, for a small "recycling" fee >:-) That was a joke. Yes, the Mac Pro's future isn't quite clear, YET. Hopefully that will improve very soon. As for not being able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Don't worry about that too much, Nobody is forcing you to do that. Your Mac Pro won't quit working if it isn't installed. From what I've heard, you should give the new OS a chance, and wait to get it, in case there might be some bugs, or stuff not working with the new OS, which has been known to happen. Yes, we Mac Pro owners don't like being treated like mushrooms-kept in the dark, and being fed......... but Apple is Apple and it will do what it does, and there is nothing you or me can really do to change that. All I can say is....trust, have faith, be patient, go for a walk, do something else to take your mind off of this problem. IF apple decides to drop the Mac Pro for good, and that's a big "IF", I think they will anger a whole bunch of people

My magic track pad works fine, the magic mouse cursor stayed in the central part of the screen and would only move up and down on a slight diagonal. I went into system preferences/mouse/more gestures and disabled all swipes. Problem solved.

Yes.
Leave the drive you have as is for backup and safety.
You could do a clean install if you want and use Setup Assistant, or you can use Carbon Copy Cloner and skip moving the large data and media sub folders in user account.
People have been separating the OS/Apps (system boot drive) from the user account (and all the data) for a decade and pre-SSD
SSD addition is you need TRIM Enabler or another method to enable TRIM.
And move the user data also to its new home on another drive.
you do not want to fill the SSD beyond say 50%.
With a 4,1 you can also buy and use a PCIe card designed to hold one or two SSDs and boot from there and get 6G / 550MB/sec instead of ~250MB/sec (but either way is better than what you are getting now).

Is there a way to get iPhone apps on my mac pro? I've downloaded some from the iTunes store, but they don't work on the computer, they just sit in iTunes.

There is a forum for iTunes and Apps. Last time I used iTunes 10.5.0 those apps would if you have the option checked in iTunes "auto add to your device" during the next synch session when you plugged it into your computer.
But it runs iOS 5.01, not Lion or OS X something. Totally different code base.

Messages do not update on mac pro

I'm running a 3,1 dual 3.2 G, 16GB MacPro with Mavericks 9.5.
My Macbook Pro's running Mountain Lion.
I'm having trouble with Messages 8.0 on the MacPro. I ran Disk Warrior today, and I restarted to find all of my messages gone. Checked the Messages archive in my library,and it had apparently not updated in quite some time (a month or so).
I see that my Macbook Pro updates its messages to current whenever I log on. Not so with the Mac Pro. Settings appear to be identical. Can anybody help with this? I'd love to get my messages back on the desktop; they're all still on the laptop and my iPhone.

I must admit I tend to do it this way:-
From Re: messages "An error occurred while activating. Try again later"
"If that does not work find the com.apple.imessages.bag.plist and Restart the app
This forces to reconnect with one of the iMessages servers.
If that does not work Right Click the Preferences Folder icon in the Path Bar and select the "Get Info" option.
In the info panel that appears scroll to the bottom.
Your short name should be listed here with Read and Write Permissions.
Then highlight your Name and use the Cogwheel icon under the list.
This should list a line about making you the Owner but in greyed out text. (if it is greyed out you already Own it)
The above is where the files are stored.
However in Mavericks and Yosemite the Messages is one of th Sandboxed apps that effectively have a "Read and Write route" to those .plists
In the Finder window you have open click on the Library icon to open the Library itself.
Then navigate to Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Preferences
You will notice that this has Aliases pointing to files of the same names as in ~/Library/Preferences.
Right click this Preferences Folder icon and do the Get Info thing.
Check you have Read and Write Permissions and that you Own it.
Repeat for each folder back to the Library one (Library, Data, com.apple.iChat )"
This is because I have always tried the least amount of changes along the way to solving an issue.
However Eric's way is easier.

The apps that you have on your iPhone will only work on iOS devices i.e. an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch - your Mac uses a different operating system, OS X. You can get some apps/programs for your Mac e.g. you should have a Mac App Store icon, possibly on the dock at the bottom of the screen, and/or in the Applications folder :
If you are using Safari to access Facebook or other sites then you should be able to add bookmarks for them to itvia the Bookmarks menu at the top of Safari (command-D is the keyboard shortcut for adding a bookmark). If you are using a different browser, then again you should be able to bookmarks for your favourite sites.

Any update on Mac Pro 2013 ssd upgrade?

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge on weather an SSD upgrade for the current 2013 Mac Pro will be available soon. I bought a new Mac Pro 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5 12GB RAM for my music production for my studio, however I'm now finding the small SSD a limitation to working with software that needs a lot of space available on the hard drive to install. As far as space for files, I use a external hard drive so that doesn't really matter. I've been constantly checking the web ever so often to see if there is any updated news on pcie ssd upgrades for the new mac pro but can't find anything. OWC did make a prototype SSD for this machine and rumours were that in the 4th quarter on this year they would be available for the public, however that doesn't seem to be the case...
I really wish I went for the 500gb version now even if it was a bit more expensive.
If anyone has any information on when aftermarket pcie based ssds for this machine will be available it will be much appreciated.

Updates on Mac Pro Prevent Boot from SSD

Hey there everyone,
I recently upgraded my 2010 Mac Pro (Quad Core) to an SSD Drive using the OCZ Petrol Drive and I coudn't be happier. The system is super snappy and works great. That said, I downloaded the latest updates to my system last night and as of today, it wont boot to the SSD. All other boot operations seem fine, but the SSD wont boot. It goes into the progress bar screen you get when a firmware update is running then just shuts itself down.
I tried reseting the PRAM with no luck and also tried a disk repair from the Lion Recovery Partition as well as a Lion DVD I made, but both fail to repair the disk. I am currently recovering from a Time Machine backup and everything seems to be OK so far, but has this happened to anyone else with the latest batch of updates? I will update this post when the Time Machine Backup completes and let you all know the outcome.

Update 2: I did a hard shutdown and rebooted holding down the option key to try and boot from the Lion Recovery partition and perform a disk repair only to find out the Lion Recovery partition was no more. Wow...looks like this is a bigger issue than I thought. Reinstalling Lion from a DVD now. This should be fun...

I am running a MAC PRO 10.6.8 and it has firefox 3.6.1.3 and it shows no updatres available? My MAC Book PRo has updated to 6.0.2. can I manually update my MAC PRO to 6.0.2 or is there a reason the MAC PRO should NOT use 6.0.2?

I am in my late 60's so I can't imagine all the changes and questions to what to do but... new Macs do not boot from an OS the pre-dates it.
The Mac Pro is 7.5 yrs old , I have the August 2006 1,1 right here right now.
Sounds like we have the same system - Mac Pro 1,1 2.66 dual/dual-core (total of 4-cores) DDR2 FB-DIMMs et c.
These cannot run Mountain Lion 10.8.x
The PowerMac G5 came out in Sept/Oct 2003 and shipping with10.3.0/
I would do a clean install. Than install all apps from scratch.
Upgrade CS5 first ahead of time if you want Migration or Setup Assistant.

You appear to have boght a Mac and taken it to a country with no iTunes/Mac App Store. So there is nowhere for you to buy. You must buy from the stores for your country and there isn't one that I can find.

How to copy apps to new Mac Pro?

Is there an easy way to copy the applications from my G4 to my new Mac Pro? It would be nice if at least some of them can be moved over along with the user licenses.

If they are Universal Binary and can be just dragged to /Applications you are probably fine, but if they use an installer, then only migrate your home account folder and install fresh. Good to collect and keep all your software downloads and updates in one place.
PPC and Intel are different operating systems and support libraries, at least with Tiger, and can cause anything from sluggish weird performance to downright nasty.
