Apps update password anomaly between devices

Why when I tap on apps update does it ask me for a password on ipad but not on iphone? Seems to have changed since iO6!

It should...
On the iPhone hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
The next time you update apps you should be prompted for your Apple ID.

  • Apps does not sync between devices

When I buy Apps they are not shared to my iPhone and vice versa. It works well between two iphones. I have set it up under store on all my devices. Any suggestions ? Thanks!

Don't do this. If you sync your iphone to a blank itunes library, it will erase your iphone.
The iphone is not a storage device.  It simply reflects the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
Simply transfer all urcahses from the iphone to the computer. File>Transfer Purchases
Then select what you want to sync and sync.

  • ITunes refuses to check for App updates! Any idea why?

I'm having what seems to be a strange problem. I have iTunes 11.0.1, with apps I have downloaded on my machine. Regardless of an iPad, iPod or iPhone attached, clicking on the "Check for Updates" button will NOT work. At all. I get app update alerts on my devices when they are not connected, but never on my Mac, running 10.6.8.
Does anyone have an explanation for this?
And before you give simpleton answers, I don't have "Pregnancy tracker" in my apps, the computer is authorized for my AppleID, and it is irrelevant whether an iDevice is connected. The iTunes app simply refuses to check when I click the button.

The "check for update" button isn't for your apps.  It's for your iOS version.
If you want to update apps, select the "apps" entry in your library, and you'll see the "# updates available" button, if you have updates.

  • App updates in iTunes 12

Can I get a simple answer to this question? Is it true that you can no longer get app updates (for your iOS devices) from within iTunes 12? In past versions of iTunes, app updates were announced prominently when you plugged in an iOS device to sync. There are "badges" on my iPhone apps now showing that updates are available and I can update them directly using the phone. But there seems to be no such function now in iTunes 12. It would seem a simple and basic function of iTunes isn't it? And if the feature is now removed, well at least tell us how the task is supposed to be performed.

Small correction: the date and version number are displayed, sorry for the mistake. The rest of the problem still stands, though, the descriptions of the changes are missing.

  • App specific password for third party mail client

I have the mail client both in my iPhone and iPad, when I use app specific password, it kicks me out from one of them. I tried using 2 different app specific passwords, still kicking me out. Is is really like this?

So far the app specific passwords were only required for 3rd party apps, not for "Apple apps". Not sure why you cannot use trusted device verification for iMessage and FT like on the App store or iTunes. or on Apple TV.
Having to generate a different  app specific password for every device that uses iMessage or FT is a pain, but I guess the powers that be at Apple feel it is more secure.

  • Anyway to automatically download app updates?

i had to disable automatic app updates on my ios device as i have limited bandwidth and would want a single copy of the universal apps to be downloaded and install on all my devices which can be done only via itunes on the mac. sadly, itunes doesn't do automatic app updates. is there a way, like an applescript or something, that can trigger automatic app updates of available updates and keeps them ready for syncing?

If you are looking for something automated, I don't think so.

  • App-specific passwords: are they required for the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime?

I was recently prompted to generate app-specific passwords for iMessage and FaceTime on my Mac. The process went reasonably smoothly, but after doing this I wondered whether I'll need to do the same on my iOS devices.
The Apple Support page Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support offers no clues about which Apple apps require them and on which devices.
As a test, I tried signing out of iMessage on my iPhone, and signing back in with my regular Apple ID password, not an app-specific one. This worked fine, therefore I assume the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime do not need app-specific passwords.
On the other hand, I've read some of the articles which state that the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime will require app-specific passwords:
      http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/02/apple-extends-two-factor-authentication-to- facetime-and-imessage/
Does this mean that app-specific passwords have simply not been "rolled out" to my devices yet, and we'll be prompted to generate app-specific passwords on iOS at some random time in the future?
If so, that's a problem for non-technical users in my household on whose behalf I look do setup and security. It will effectively mean iMessage will stop working for them, until I can take a look at the issue. This is not always something that can be done quickly if we're in different locations.
If I pre-empt the roll-out by visiting https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage/security and generate and install an app-specific passwords for them anyway, before the prompt appears, will this work?

  • Loading Apps updates only via sidebar

I use version 11.0.1.12 of iTunes.
    Consider the following situation:
    - on the iOS device there are nortifications for app updates
    - connect the iOS device to iTunes (setting: search automatically for available downloads)
Is it right that I have to use the (old) sidebar on the left side to download app updates?
(I cannot see any button for updating app via iTunes if the sidebar is not shown.
Furthermore there is no setting for automatic download of app updates in the settings of iTunes.
So app updates have always to be downloaded manually.)

Simply select Apps from the content selection drop down at the top left of the screen.
Then in the lower right corner (where it has always been), click the "Check for Updates" button.

  • Icloud not transferring between devices?

I cloud settings are ok and does not transfer apps or data etc to my other devices
    Plz help

Not to pick nits here, but just to make sure .... The apps don't transfer between devices - the apps will download to both devices. When you download an app on the iPhone, that same app will automatically download to the iPad as long as the iPad is powered up and connected to WiFi.
That is not happening for you?

  • App-specific password for iMessage and FaceTime required?

Using 2 step verification with AppleID/iCloud
This morning somehow I was asked to generate an app-specific password for both iMessage and FaceTime on a Mac Mini that I use occasionally. Fair enough. Completed the process. After a while I noticed that FT and iMessage were logged out of my iPad, and it asked to generate an app-specific password. Does FT and iMessage now require an app specific password? So the Apple ID/password are no longer  enough? I can understand the need for this with third party apps, but with Apple apps? Can someone please confirm if as of today iMessage and FT need an app specific password in order to work with 2 step verification?
Or am I missing something here?

  • I am unable to update my apps as for different app updates it ask password for different apple IDs

I am unable to update my apps as for different app updates it ask password for different apple IDs. About these many IDs i am unaware.

You only can update those Apps, if you know the Passwords from the AppleIDs, which were used for purchase.
If you´re unable to enter these Passwords you can´t update them.
You can delete those Apps from your device and purchase & download them again with your own known AppleID.
There is no other Way to get them updated. Because you are not the owner of those Apps.

  • Syncing apps between devices

I'm having difficulty syncing some apps between devices so that data is saved. I recently purchased an iPad mini for my daughter and want her to have some of her existing game apps to play, and then delete from my iPad. Anyone encountered the same, or any solutions?

I'm having the same problem with apps not syncing between my iPhone 5s and iPad Air. I made sure under settings > iTunes & Apps Store that automatic Download is on and selected for Music, Apps, Books, and Updates. Have you gotten a resolution to that issue?

  • IOS 7 doesn't work on iPod touch 4g, so does the mean its the end for this device? Or are they going to make updates specially for lower devices an apps that are compatible ??

iOS 7 doesn't work on iPod touch 4g, so does the mean its the end for this device? Or are they going to make updates specially for lower devices an apps that are compatible ??

Which apps remain compatible will be up to the individual developers who sell those apps. There will be no further iOS updates, but those aren't really necessary to continue to use and enjoy your device. I still have an iPad 1 running on iOS 5, and it is fully functional.
The App Store has an app called VintApps 3.1.1 that is specifically geared toward iOS 3.1, however, you would probably be able to run most of those apps on your iPod, and considering that there will be a rather large market for iOS 6 apps users, it is not likely that you will see a significant reduction in choices any time soon.
It is not the end for the device in any sense except that it is at it's ultimate iOS level. And again, I have an iPad that is at it's ultimate iOS level (iOS 5), and I get new apps all the time that work for both my iPad and my iPhone that runs iOS 6.1.1
    No need to fret....
    Cheers,
