Apps won't restore to iPhone from an iTunes restore

I had to back up and restore, using iTunes, due a failed SIM card. Restore left the apps appearing dark on the screen and not available. How do I restore the apps?

Synch the phone. The apps should synch back from iTunes.

You can't get it reset; if you could there would be no point in having it. If you have an encrypted backup there are two ways this could have happened:
You checked "Encrypt Backup" in iTunes at some time in the past, either intentionally or by accident
You have a corporate MS Exchange account and your Exchange administrator installed a security profile on your phone that requires the phone'a contents to be encrypted. This, in turn, requires the backup to be encrypted for obvious reasons.
In either case you were prompted for a password the first time you backed up after whichever of these happened. So think about what you might have entered for a password at that time. Fortunately you get an unlimited number of tries. Other threads on this subject have shown that it is always a password known to the user, so it wasn't something made up by iTunes. Also, everyone who has figured it out has found it to be a different password type, so try your Apple ID password, your computer's login password, your WiFi password, your corporate domain password, etc. And try passwords that may have been changed since your first backup. As a last resort there is a professional password cracker available, but it isn't cheap - it's targeted at the law enforcement market - from Elcomsoft. There are also some scam password crackers available that don't actually work and possibly steal your information. It's likely that a developer of one or more of these will post a response with a link (possibly hidden) to their "product". I read an answer on another issue that said you don't deauthorize iPhones from the phone, and to deauthorize everything from the iTunes store. But when I go to the iTunes store, it tells me my computer is not authorized, (I just had this computer repaired & the iTunes store doesn't recognize it, and it says we already have 5 devices authorized). Is there a place to deauthorize everything at once, so I can add devices back individually?

I'm having the same problem. I have checked the status and it says the location of the song is in iCloud. When I click on the cloud next to the song, not thing happens. It's been like that for 3 days. It does say it's "waiting"
Also, when I manually add album art, nothing happens. Still shows the generic iTunes icon.

If she is using the same iCloud account you can sign into iCloud.com > Find my Phone > Devices > select her phone and wipe it only if she had Find my Phone enabled in the iCloud settings on the phone.
Otherwise, you will need to contact her.
She needs to sign out on the phone.
Settings > iMessage > Send & Recieve > Apple ID > Sign out
Settings > FaceTime > Apple ID > Sign ut
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Sign out
If she is using the same iCloud account too then:
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account

Can you tell me a little more about your situation? I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish. You authorize your computer to sync or download iTunes; you associate your iPhone with your Apple ID, not with iTunes.

Messages app won't restore / reappear after closing or minimizing.

This is a weird problem and I'm not even sure how to describe it so apologies if this is confusing.
I have a problem with the Messages app on my Mavericks computer. When I first launch the app from the dock, it opens up fine. It will continue to restore just fine for a while, and then it will suddenly stop restoring. By restore, I'm talking about re-opening the app after you've hidden / closed or minimized it using the close or minimize buttons in the top left of the window. The indicator "light" below the app icon in the dock, which indicates that the app is loaded, is illuminated. It won't restore from Launchpad, or through Finder either.
If I right click on the Messages icon in the dock, I can select to create a New Message, and then the app restores just fine. If I simply click on the Messages icon, nothing happens, but the menu bar does change to Messages. From there, I can select menu -> Window -> Messages and the app will restore. If I receive a new message notification and click on that, the Messages app will restore just fine. It's only when I try to restore it by clicking on the dock icon that it fails to restore.
I've tried restarting and a full reboot, but I'm out of ideas after that. Any thoughts on where to even start troubleshooting? I've tried a search for the answer, but the context of the problem makes it impossible to filter through the results. Thanks.

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Can I stop apps that I purchase from appearing across all my other devices? For example if my wife purchases something on her phone, it shows up automatically on mine.

On your computer, go to iTunes > Preferences > Store.
Deselect apps for Automatic Downloads.
If you and your wife share the same iTunes account, this will also prevent any apps downloaded with her iPhone from being downloaded by iTunes automatically and vice-versa.
