Apps won't update or install!

I have 7 apps that need updating, but every time I try to update them they freeze for a while and then it says it is unable to be downloaded at this time. Yet when I go back to the home screen, the app is dimmed and says it is installing when it isn't! I tried deleting and re-installing the apps, but then it wouldn't even let me install it again. The same message pops up saying it is unable to be downloaded at this time. I tried everything, rebooted, signed in and out of my apple account, and everything else everyone has said worked for them but nothing is working for me. :/ I have an iPad that belongs to the school and I need those apps for a project.

What iOS version is your iPad on?
Try resetting the Network settings.

You may of had a corrupted install. Connect to iTunes backup then restore. Or update the apps on itunes then sync to the iPhone

I would do a restore using iTunes. This will re-install the latest iOS 6 with factory settings, then you'll have to re-enter your settings and re-install your apps. But everything should work after that.

Apps won't update after installing iOS 8

After having installed iOS 8 on my IPhone 5, which has never let me down before, I have had this ridiculous problem, which goes like this - I can't update the existing apps on my phone. Anyone else with a similar problem?

I just fixed My Wife's iPhone 5.
steps
1. deleted all apps that were trying to update
2. Reset iPhone By holding down the home and power button.
3. When the iPhone powered back on it immediately prompted us for our iTunes account information
4. Once I put that in it started downloading the apps but they got hung up again!
5. Turned off WiFi, connectEd to LTE (AT&T)
6. Apps finally pulled down.
Not sure what it is because my iPhone 6 plus can pull down apps and updates from the App Store and iTunes while on WiFi. So can all of the other iPads and iPhones in our house. And Her iPhone worked on Safari, Facebook etc.
I think it's an issue with iTunes credentials. Like they're not being passed from the device to Apple.

I have googled and looked around for hours. My apps won't update or in stall. Everything just freezes!
I did a reset about 15 times, turned off auto update, don't have the WSJ app, I went through the purchases tab, i deleted half the apps (20 of 60) and still nothing.
Any thoughts?

This is frustrating. I deleted the WSJ app and now everything is working again. Great! Except it doesn't make sense and makes troubleshooting in the future difficult, especially for those that don't even have the WSJ (Newsstand) app installed. For those that come to this thread, here are the issues I was experiencing in case it helps: iPhone 6, iOS 8.1
1) I don't know of any changes, new installations, etc., but during the day yesterday while out and about, I noticed my Paper app (made by Facebook) stopped loading correctly. It would freeze on the last screen that was working a few minutes before, crash (go back to home screen), then upon reloading be blank and forever loading data/syncing animation.
2) Newly purchased apps on my iPad Air 2 had downloaded fine there, but my iPhone 6 with the issue in question (which has auto-download turned on for new apps) had the icons but wasn't downloading.
3) This is when I started noticing that no updates would start downloading in the App Store, and a number of apps wouldn't load anymore (either would hang at their respective startup screens or crash and go back to home screen): Paper (by Facebook, but the normal Facebook app worked fine), Evernote, Evernote's extension when trying to save to Evernote from other apps, Yelp. I don't know if there were others (I have over 200 apps installed), but plenty others worked fine. It was bizarre.
Solutions tried:
1) Restarting phone: issues persisted.
2) 2-button forced restart: issues persisted.
3) Force quitting all apps (double click home button then swipe up every open/running app), power cycled phone (held down sleep/wake button then slid red slider/X): issues persisted.
4) Signing out of iTunes/App Store account, restarting, then signing back in.
5) Signing out of iTunes/App Store account,, 2-button forced reset of iPhone 6, then signing back in. Same issues persisted.
6) Sliding down the for top for notification center, slid to the side for Today view, and removed all widget extensions (hoping maybe something would reset): issues persisted.
7) Cleared all notifications from Notification Center: issues persisted.
8) Deleted Evernote app (one of the apps that wasn't loading anymore and would only crash and go back to home screen), stopped all other apps in App Store trying to update or download, restarted phone, then tried downloading Evernote: wouldn't download just like the rest.
8) I gave up and was about to restore from backup next, when I decided to check Google and found this forum. I deleted the WSJ (Newsstand) app, power cycled (restarted) phone, and voila! Everything now works fine (app purchases download, app updates download, Yelp now works, Paper (Facebook) now works, Evernote now works). What gives?!?

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. IPhone apps won't update, iTunes Store won't open

I can't figure out why my apps won't update on my iPhone. I have rebooted, deleted the apps that wouldn't update and froze (waiting) and rebooted after that. I may not have the greatest wifi connection ... I am out of town and dependent on hotel/convention center wifi. Went to App Store to reload the deleted apps (some), but same thing. I saw a response regarding iTunes, went there...took forever for iTunes to open, it kept stating I couldn't access iTunes Store, and after hitting "okay" probably 4 times to confirm that iTunes wouldn't open...it did. So I thought that was the problem and returned back to App Store and tried to reload just one app. Well it's been an hour and a half or more, can't reload it. It creeps along and I thought the app was loaded, but no. I can reboot only, not reset because I am no in home like I said. This is more than "fairly frustrating". What the heck can I do?

Do a hard reset by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and home button together until apple logo appears.

Does iTunes Connect Christmas break mean apps won't update with new folios over Christmas?

I have 2 folios that are due to be released to my app this Christmas - both fall within the 22nd-29th window iTunes have chosen to close down.
So even though I can publish my folios through DPS over Christmas and pre-plan my app description in iTunes accordingly - before the 22nd - will those published folios not appear in my app?

Correct. An app can only be updated under the Apple ID that was used to orginally acquire the app. If that is a problem you can delete the app and download again under the new userid. If you paid for the app you will have to pay again. Your old Apple ID does not go away so there is no reason to not use it to download the apps.
You cannot delete the apps that came with IOS. If you want to "hide" the apps simply put the apps into an application folder by dragging one app onto another. You can do this to all the IOS apps.

Apps won't update on iPad

Arrrrggghhh! My iPad is buggered. I have 36 updates waiting and none of them will update. I'm away for the holidays so can't connect to my computer. I've tried powering off normally and doing a hard reboot (power + home) - nothing. It shows the black bar across the bottom of the app but nothing is happening. I've done the software update to 5.0.1. And when I click on just one app to be updated is says that it can't be downloaded at this time.

I bought a new iPad in 2012. Everything was fine, but now two apps won't update. Message: "Unable to download application. Could not be downloaded at this time." I have 30GB free space. Affects Sketchpad Pro and Adobe Touch. The biggest problem is that I can't use the apps!!!!! I'm okay with using an older version but this update cycle has locked me out of using them at all. If you're stuck within an app or you've noticed a problem, simply hold both the home button and sleep/wake button at the same time. It's important to keep your fingers on these buttons until step 3.
After a few seconds the red ‘slide to power off' screen will appear, simply ignore this. Ensure your fingers are still holding down the home and sleep/wake switch.
Shortly after you should see the Apple logo, it's now safe to let go of the iPad's buttons. Your iPad should now boot, beware this process can take up to 15 minutes or so.

Do you have a song or podcast in iTunes that did not finish downloading? If you do - finish that one first. The apps will not update until that download is complete.
If that doesn't do it - sign out of your account - Settings>Store>Apple ID - sign out. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and sign in again and see if you can tap on one app and start the download.

I just had this same problem. Others in this discussion area suggested powering off their iPad and then powering back up. This worked for me and now all of my apps are updated. Hope this might help.

You can't all apps are tied to the apple id that was used to purchase/download it.
