i have loaded some free apps on the ipod touch but they wont sync and wont work on the ipod

What do you mean by will not sync? You said you downloaded them on your iPod.
What happens when you try to use them?
Are they compatible with your model iPod and its iOS?

New apps wont appear on iPod touch

I have an iPhone4 and iPod Touch on the same iTunes account. The iPod is new and setting it up was all fine, but when I purchased new apps thru iTunes and tried to sync the apps appeared on the iPhone but not the iPod. The apps screen in iTunes seems to be greyed out so I cannot add or delete anything on the iPod manually. Have I done something wrong?

I haven't tried purchasing apps since befor problems began. I never had any problems installing apps before when i purchased them or got them free, until the last few weeks. I hve just been trying to install apps on the top free list, ones i had before so i know they were apps my ipod touch could get,like the free Skout version app. When will that apple problembe fixed? I dont want to try to purchase apps again until that problem with the free ones is fixed.

Bought an appfrom Apple Store and downloaded to computer. Connected Ipad, and app installed on Ipad ok. Connected Ipod Touch; computer showed list of available apps; the one I wanted to install appeared with "install" button next to it. XClicked on button and it changed to "will install," but nothing else happened. Clicked on "apply." It went through a synch cycle, but the app still didn't appear on the ipod. No error message of any kind. The button returned to "install."
How doI get this app to install? It was advertized as working on Ipod Touch.

It looks like our Ipod is a very old one. It runs IOS 4.2, and apparently cannot be upgraded to what is required for the app. it would have been nice, though, if trying to install produced an appropriate error message, rather than twiddling its thumbs and doing nothing.

What country's App/iTunes store are you using? Di y change it to other than to an English speaking country?

Do any fellow iTunes U administrators know anything about this? How is existing content presented in the new app? Would we need to change anything? How do we access / make available the new features?
The new features sound fantastic but it would have been nice to have some warning. I appreciate that Apple has to keep specific details about developments confidential but it's slightly disconcerting that iTunes U administrators were not forewarned about this new development and that there has been no mention of it on this forum. Also - and at the risk of sounding like a broken record - it really would be helpful for iTunes U administrators to have a private forum (perhaps an add-on to Public Site Manager) where we could discuss issues and share ideas and best practice etc.

Do you have at last iOS version 2.0 or later? If so, make sure the App store hasn't been disabled from under the Restrictions setting. To check, head to Settings -> General -> Restrictions. You might also want to make sure it wasn't move to a folder or to another page.

The built in Apps can't be deleted, but they can be moved to an unused screen. You could create a folder of all unused Apps and move it.

You can try to tell the iPod to use yours:
1. Tap Settings
2. Navigate to "iTunes & App Store"

The problem is when i drag n drop downloaded apps from torrentz into itunes n syncronize it add those apps into my itouch ... but the message shown in my i touch is .. that application failed to install..

I tried to restore the iPod to an earlier version without success. Is there any way to download older versions of my apps which are compatible with my older iPod?

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
