Appying a general severity to a server or group of servers

Hi All,
We have recently begun to deploy scom 2012 within our company and we are currently building out our system.
Basically, in our organisation, we have servers that are critical to production, and some that are not, depending on which goes down or an issue occurs on, depends on how
our servicedesk escalate, i.e phone call, ticket/email etc...
At the moment i have built a dashboard, and when a particular event occurs, i have it set to pop into a particular widget, this works fine, but this may be a critical alert
on one server, but not critical alert on another server....
Can someone please advise how i might apply a severity to a particular server or group of servers?

Thanks for the response, if i was to go the route of creating  2 groups - 1 critical, the other - non critical, i add the appropriate servers to there relevant groups, then i can set the severity (with an override) on the critical group, so that any
alerts, winevent or online/offline, would automatically have a severity of critical associated with them? regardless of how the severity is set in the rule for the winevent? is that correct?
If that's the case then its not ideal as our SD team (servicedesk) currently wake people out of bed if the alert/server is critical, we would like to retain this, so in our test environment now, i have created a rule for a winevent, i have set the priority
- high, and severity - critical, when i trigger this alert, it appears in a widget named - "phone the call support" but i would like this alert to only appear in the "Phone the on call support" window if it happens on one of our production critical servers,
we don't want our SD team waking people up for a critical alert on a non critical server.
Maybe i'm over complicating this a bit, its tricky trying to word these questions!

  • Adding Desktop to SBS server work group

    I cannot add one of the PCs in the office to the workgroup.  We can see the PC and the SVR2 but cannot join the laptop to the workgroup no matter what we try.  I have manually changed the IP address, DNS server, DHCP and Gateway as follows:
    workstation 192.168.0.117
    DNS 192.168.0.254  same as server IP
    DHCP 192.168.0.1
    Gateway 192.168.0.1
    The firewall is 192.168.0.1
    The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

    How many PCs are there in the workgroup? There are typically no more than twenty PCs in a workgroup.
    In addition, all PCs must be on the same local network or subnet in a workgroup. Please make sure that the IP address you configured for this PC is not used. Did you mean that you have a DHCP server in the workgroup? If yes, you just need to set to obtain
    IP address automatically and then DHCP server would assign a IP address to it.
    In addition, did the DHCP server is a router? In general, if the DHCP server is the router in a small network, the default gateway usually points to the IP address of the DHCP server. In addition, a router that acts as the default gateway needs to maintain
    this level of routing knowledge to reach other remote network segments in the larger internetwork.
    I recommend you to post the result of running "ipconfig/all" on the SBS server and the detailed error message when you join the workgroup.

    Before all these updates, one used to be able to create a Group (such as Buddy List), then send emails by clicking on that Group Name.  Has not worked for a long time now, though.  I wish they would bring it back.

  • 11.1.3 - APS Server does not appear within APS Server Application Group

    I successfully migrated from 9.3.1 to 11.1.3 in our DEV environment but their is no entry in the APS Server Application Group within Shared Services. Additionally, I am able to access all forms and run reports but when attempting to provision users in the new environment (comparing user access to Production) I realized that the APS server was not available for provisioning. What can be done to correc this? I am still learning about all of the moving parts so I am not entirely sure how to troubleshoot.

    In version 11 there are no provisioning roles for APS, so you shouldn't have to worry about it.

  • Remove Server from /private/Network/Servers?

    I'm integrated with a Windows AD Network. We moved this user's home directory to another server but the old server still shows up in /private/Network/Servers and if the woman tries to save something to the old server instead of going to the server (since it doesn't exist anymore) it saves it to the hard drive under /private/network/servers/servername/directory
    Reading online I read about something going into "dscl" and changing to /search/mounts or something like that but trying to use the "delete" command in there doesn't work.
    Anything you can tell me?

    If you are under All Servers dashboard, you may right click on the server which you want to remove and select “Remove Server”. If you want to remove a server from a Server Group,
    you may right click on the server which you want to remove and select “Remove Server from Group”.
    Please note, you cannot remove the current server from the All Servers dashboard.

  • 1 NodeManager, 1 Admin Server and 2 Managed Servers

    Hi All, I'm new in Weblogic and this is my 1st time to post a question on this forum. Would like ask for help from you all above my setup, I'm not sure whether it will work or not. Please find out the scenario below:
    Setup:
    1 Machine (RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.5)
    1 NodeManager
    1 AdminServer (Name: APP)
    2 Managed Servers (Name: APPLIVE, APPUAT)
    Currently I would like to using one NodeManager to control both Managed Servers under 1 machine. When I configure my APP Admin Server and two Managed Servers, i would like to nmEnroll both Managed Servers under one NodeManager but it will overwrite my enroll entries if i enroll 2nd Managed Server.
    Is it possible to configure NodeManager to accept both Managed Servers entries? Thanks. :)

    Hi Hong,
    Following are the few things which you help you understand about NodeManager and nmEnroll
    - First of all a Node Manager process is not associated with a specific WebLogic domain but with a machine
    - When you run a nmEnroll then you just give "domainDir" and "nmHome" which would then gets the file called "*nm_password.properties*" which contains the encrypted username and password that is used for server authentication and "*SerializedSystemIni.dat*" file.
    Example:
    nmEnroll([domainDir], [nmHome])
    - With above files it also updates the nodemanager.domains file with the domain information which was mentioned in the above command.
    Thus when you run the nmEnroll command it would get all the details which it needs to start any managed servers in the same Machine, hence you do not need to run the same commend for each managed servers in the same Machine.

    I don't see a way of you being able to edit one line without reading the entire file into memory.  You could hold the data you are writing to the file in a custom table in SAP, and when an edit is required, delete the old table and recreate a new one based on your custom table.

    I confirmed with Exchange support team that DAGs could be backed up separately.
    Meanwhile backup database is important if you need to recover both Exchange server settings and database. See:

    Can OS X Server 10.6 reverse proxy be setup to route port traffic 5003 (FileMaker Server) to 2 seperate servers (FM 11 and FM 12)?

    In your scenario, how is the 'OS X 10.6 Server' supposed to identify which FM machine to proxy the connection to?
    The FM client uses a proprietary protocol, so it's not something simple like HTTP.  Off hand I don't know of any way the server can accept arbitrary connections on port 5003 and know which FM server to relay it to.
    Two options come to mind. One is to nix the OS 10.6 Server altogether - I don't understand this machine's purpose in your network - the second is to setup different ports on the OS X 10.6 Server machine and map each port to a different FM server, e.g. 5003 -> FM11, 5004 -> FM12, then you configure the remote client to connect to a different port number based on the server they want to connect to. I haven't used FM client in a long time to know if this is supported on the client side, but I'm guessing it is.
    Either way, using a proprietary protocol, there's no way for the proxy machine to be able to filter the traffic on any given ports.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Management Servers and SQL Server Availability Groups

    My team is in the middle of rolling out a brand new install of System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2.
    I have set up a SQL Server Availability group that is spread across multiple subnets and installed the initial management server per
    here. 
    As I have gone through attaching new management servers, I have noticed disturbing behavior.  When the AG fails over to another node, the management servers will lose connectivity unless I either recycle the service or it fails back to the original
    node.  This is not a security issue as I have set up permissions.  It says it cannot connect to the database anymore at all.
    Has anyone else seen this behavior?  Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?

  • SMTP Relay to a Hub server with the Mailbox servers down... Anonymous email?

    I'm trying to send anonymous email to an outside email address from inside, with the Mailbox servers down. We are using cmdlets to relay to the Hub Transport server, but the error "Mailbox Unavailable" keeps coming back. I've tried multiple methods
    of powershell SMTP email delivery, and the errors are virtually identical.
    Does anyone have any methods to deliver anonymous email to a relay server while the Mailbox servers are down?

    Hi Mr.Cross,
    If you want to allow anonymous relay, you need to create a new Receive connector on the Hub Transport server and use the Shell to grant the relay permission to anonymous connections.
