April 2006 macbook pro core2duo wakes up from sleep with in sleeve

The title pretty much sums it up, The past couple of days I've gotten home from work and my macbook pro will have the screen on, and running. I have no open programs, I have reset the pram and the cmu to no avail. This really concerns me, I'm wondering if anyone has any insight. I made an appointment at the genius bar tomorrow, but I know that the problem won't be able to replicate when I get there. Just seeing if anyone else has encountered this.
Thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are a couple of things to check.
First, be sure the Mac is truly asleep before you put it in the sleeve.
Second, be sure the latch is working properly. If the lid pops open because the latch pops loose, the Mac could wake up.
Otherwise, good luck at the Genius bar.

  • Why does my macbook pro not wake up from sleep?

I have a brand new Macbook Pro 13inch. It freezes up when I try to wake it from sleep. I was wondering if there is a fix for this.

    Hello,
Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Community!  Have you performed all of the software updates on your MacBook Pro?
    To do this:
    1. Click the Apple Logo in the top left
    2. Choose "Software Update"
    3. Click "Check for Updates"
Install any available updates and restart your Mac. Let us know if this resolves it or not.  Additionally, you have posted in the iPhone Discussion area; for future reference please post in the correct category.
    Thanks!

  • My MacBook pro wont wake up from sleep. The screen is blank at all times, but I can hear the fan for 5 sec then everything stops. Please help! I don't kno what to do.

My MacBook pro is about 3 yrs old. It is a 2008 model right before the new design came out. Recently I closed it up which puts it to sleep and a couple minutes later when I opened it up the screen stayed blank but could hear the fan running but then the power clicked like it was shutting down and I could hear nothing more. My power supply is working and I have already tried resetting it. Can anyone help me? I don't live exactly near a Mac store to get help.

Before resorting to an LB change-out, try this, as it has fixed many of the "silver-key" Macbook Pros with wake-from-sleep issues:
    1) To get the computer running, do an SMC reset. Instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Your MBP model uses the first option under the subhead, "Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)"
    2) If you get it running, go to System Preferences > Network and select your Airport connection
    3) In the result main pane, click the "Advanced..." button.
    4) You should be looking at a window with multiple tabs at the top; the "Airport" tab (far left) should be active---if not, make it so.
    5) There is a panel showing "Prefered Networks." Use the "minus" button below that window to eliminate any networks that you don't need to access on more than a weekly basis. I'm down to two: the home Airport Extreme Base Station and the network for a museum at which I volunteer once a week.
    5) Click "OK" and close System Preferences.
Now try letting it sleep and see it if wakes up.
When this happened to my Late 2007 MBP, I used Console to read system.log and found that, on waking, the compuer was looking for the wireless network at a lodge where I'd stayed weeks earlier and miles away. Clear the morass of old networks and keeping the list short has completely cured my wake-from-sleep issues.
The steps I listed take less time to do than to read, and are within the ability even of novice Mac users.
If that doesn't work, you may need to seek professional help. If you take it to an Apple Store and they recommend a logic board replacement, ask about a "Depot Repair." Instead of replacing the logic board on-site (which will whack you to the tune of US$700-1100), they send the computer to a central Apple refurb facility that fixes whatever they find wrong for a flat fee of about US$315 (last time someone reported using the service here). Turnaround is about one working week, and people who have taken of this service have reported being very pleased with the outcome.

  • Macbook Pro Screen wakes up from sleep without any acitvity

I've set my MacBook Pro screen to turn off after two minutes of activity. I've had this setting for all my Macs and I've never had any problems.
Recently though, my MacBook Pro's screen turns on by itself without me touching the computer or any mouse attached to it. What could be the problem?
It's really annoying when the screen turns on at night.
    Any help will be appreciated.

I have the same problem. I brought up console and there is nothing at the same time as the screen turning on. My situation is as follows:
I put on a podcast. The only applications running are firefox and iTunes. I turn the screen brightness all the way down with the F1 key, then mouse over the corner of the screen set to turn the monitor off.
After about 6 minutes, the screen comes back on at brightness level 1. If I touch a button or the trackpad the screen turns back off. It stays off for about 6 more minutes and does it again.
Edit: I just checked the logs with all showing and the only thing I see is a Wake Reason = EC LID0.
    Any tips?

  • Leopard: MacBook Pro rarely wakes up from sleep

    Hey all,
I just installed Leopard last weekend, and have noticed that at least half the time when i shut the lid and put my computer to sleep that it will not wake up when i re-open it. it is not an issue of power supply because this happens when i have the computer charged decently and even plugged in.
    any suggestions?
    thanks a lot

Same problem here. Of course Apple support is vacant on this issue. I think its time for Consumerist. This issue has been posted dozens of times with no response from Apple. Other options are if you purchased with American Express you could probably get them to force a repair/replace.

  • Mid 2006 Macbook Pro won't boot (from HD or optical)

My mid 2006 Macbook Pro will not boot from the hard disk, or from the internal DVD. I am currently running the latest version of Lion (10.7).
I tried searching the forums and found a similar issue here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1687899?start=0&tstart=0
But that was with a Mac Mini. And it doesn't look like the OP issue was ever resolved. I am having the exact same problem.
When attempting a normal boot from the internal HD of the Macbook Pro. It will make the happy chime of a successful POST. It will display the Apple logo. And that's as far as she gets.
No spinning wheel, no error image, no nothing. Eventually the system will start spinning up the fans as if it were under load (this was after about a half hour of just letting it sit there).
Doing a verbose boot, it never went past this:
    com.apple.driver.Apple.IntelCPUPowerManagement
    Photo of verbose boot:
    Here's what I've tried.
    1. Bought a brand new battery (as the current one was at death's door)
    2. Zapped PRAM (Apple + Option + P + R)
    3. Reset SMC according to these directions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
    4. Attempted to boot to my original Tiger (10.4) install DVD, only to stop at this point during a verbose boot (Apple V):
Extension "com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style
    Photos:
    5. I am able to put her in Target Disk Mode (hold T at boot). Then with a firewire cable I can connect it to my wife's Macbook 13" and I am able to run disk utility on it! Disk Utility did find and repair errors, however, it still refuses to boot.
    6. I attempted to boot from my wife's Macbook 13" in Target Disk Mode. I put her machine in Target disk mode. Connected the firewire cable. Powered on my 15" MBP while holding the option key. Then I selected her drive as the boot disk... however it still refuses to boot even from a known working HD.
    7. Finally, I swapped around RAM DIMMs with no change in behavior.
Help! I know she's an older gal (Laptop is 6 years old now) but I'm not exactly flush with cash and would rather not give up on her just yet.

My Mac started freezing (colored pinwheel) every time I tried using any application (i.e. Safari, iPhoto). After restarting for the 2nd time, it would no longer boot - makes start up sound but gets stuck on gray screen w/ apple icon.  I tried resetting PRAM also - did nothing. I decided to reinstall OS; problem now is my HD is nowhere to be found! I am a tech dummy so this is way beyond my comprehension...I'm not seeing my HD from the Disk Utility either???
Side question...I backed up my files (mostly pics JPEG and videos) on DVD (had to compress to save). Why can't I open files on PC?

  • My early 2008 MacBook won't wake up from sleep

My early 2008 MacBook won't wake up from sleep periodically. I will have to hold the power button down and then restart when it acks up. It did this twice yesterday & once today.

Try resetting the PMU (power management unit).
    Remove battery and power adapter.
Hold down power button for 10 seconds.
Reinstall battery and attach power adapter.
Hold down Command-Option-P-R, a total of four keys, and press power button. Don't release the keys.
Continue holding the four keys until you hear the startup sound twice, then release.

  • Early 2008 Mac Pro wakes up from sleep with Mavericks.

Ever since I upgraded to OSX Mavericks on Tuesday, my early 2008 Mac Pro keeps waking up from sleep mode every couple hours. It goes back to sleep again on its own though after a minute, so I'm thinking it's some kind of new automated feature that I'm not aware of. With the Mac Pro being fairly loud when it wakes up from sleep mode, it woke me up three times last night! Is there some kind of option in the system preferences that I'm not aware of that can deactivate this new behavior? I usually only shut down my computer once a week, and keep it in sleep mode when I'm not using it most of the time, but I'm going to have to start shutting it down every  night now to keep it from waking me up throughout the night...

    Hello MARl0,
You may want to disable the Power Nap functionality, if available, in System Preferences -> Energy Saver.

  • MacBook won't wake up from sleep / boot up.

My MacBook has trouble waking up from sleep, and sometimes booting up from a normal shutdown. When I open the clamshell after I put the computer to sleep, the indicator light doesn't blink, but is lit up, and the screen is completely blank. Pressed all keys, and still it won't wake up. I've had the same problem with booting up the computer from a normal shutdown as well. I've tried holding on to the power key and doing a hard reset, but nothing seems to work. However, I can't seem to pinpoint the cause of this problem, it seems to be completely arbitrary. Sometimes, it wakes without a problem, and sometimes it just stays in "zombie" mode for .. extended periods of time.
I've also resetted the PMU, and the NVRAM as well. I'm not sure how this could affect it, but a few days ago, my CD drive broke. When I tried to boot up, the CD drive seemed to be turning to find a CD, and couldn't boot up. So I took it to the Apple guy and got the CD drive removed completely. I took the MacBook back to him with this waking up problem, and he says it's fixed, but it really isn't.
    Help! I can't

I can't boot up MacBook and I,m wondering if you tried SafeBoot. I went through the process, got the progress bar, then nothing. Just more blue screen and gear spinning.

  • MacBook won't "wake" up from sleep, when being folded

When I "fold" computer it goes to sleep. But, when I flip up the screen again, my Mac won't "wake" up from sleep mode anymore.
Do anyone know how to fix this problem?
    BR
    Christian
I have a MacBook 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 duo, Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

    I've solved my problem.
I have reset my MacBook's PRAM settings.
    It's very easy: link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.
    Hope this helps
    Best regards,
    Christian

  • Macbook Pro beeping when waking from sleep

I have just upgraded from Lion to Moutain Lion. Before upgrading I did all the usual disk check and stuff. But currently when my computer wakes up from sleep there is a loud beeping and black screen, I have to force shut down to use the notebook. This have happen twice. Once yesterday morning and today evening. I installed Moutain Lion on 2 Aug.
    - Yesterday Morning
Went out left the computer on to download stuff, my notebook is always set to sleep after 1hr after I came back turn on the computer there is loud beeping had to force shut down.
Search the internet found it could be a corrupt sleep image file or ram problem. I did a memory test no problems. Therefore I accepted that it could be a once off corrupted sleep image file as I was not at home when the computer went to sleep.
After I rebooted there is this message that the computer recovered from a system problem.
    - Today Evening
Went out decided to use Deep Sleep a dashboard widget for hibernation after I came back home the computer was running and there is the lound beeping. The computer was hot so it have turn on for sometime.
There is no message that the computer recovered from a system problem this time.
But there is this existing issue even with Lion. The computer will sometimes wakeup from its sleep. I have tried clicking sleep from the menu bar and the dashboard widget both have the same problem. I tried tweaking the sleep setting after searching for this issue online. But after sometime the problem returns.
But there is no loud beeping. Just a hot computer running since the lid was close. So the problem was not an issue at first.
I have also notice before upgrading to moutain lion when I was next to the notebook and while it is still sleeping it will sometimes make the usual noise when starting up or booting from sleep. But when I open the lid it is still asleep. I think the noise is from the dvd drive not too sure.
So the issue occured before upgrading and got worst after upgrading. What should I do? I have tried looking at console but don't seem to find a clue what log file shoud I be checking?

Ok I have send a request for a call back request. Hopefully I can speak to someone with a technical background and not ask me to go through a series of standard steps.
The notebook is running great no problems or issues. No kernal panic or problems booting. No traces in the log file of what went wrong. Previously in lion when the computer wakes up from sleep I could check the cause in console but as the computer now goes into beeping when waking up in moutain lion there is no traces at all.

  • Wakes up from sleep with flashing/vertical lines

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro mid 2012 mode, when ever my laptop wakes up from sleep after a longer duration then the screen flicker and vertical color lines appear.
The problem goes away once I reboot, also the problem doesnt appear in case I dont let the mac sleep. I have tried PRAM reset and changing my display resolutions, but both have not helped. The mac is just under two years old and I have already replaced the SATA cable, hardrive and now this issue?
    Regards,

  • April 2006 MacBook Pro freezing up

    Hi everyone!
The MacBook Pro I bought in April 2006 (has CoreDuo 1.83 ghz) has started freezing up, particularly during on-line game play (I'm a geek, okay, and I play WOW.) :0) I increased my memory from 512 mb to 1.5 gigs back in January, but did not use Apple memory. Also, despite numerous fan control apps, my MacBook Pro is still really hot to the touch after extended use. Are these two issues related, and if so, what can be done?
Thanks for any ideas anyone has!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The 'freezing up' could be heat related, memory related or storage capacity related (at a guess)
Heat: Run the Hardware Tests from Install DVD1 (hold d at start) and see if it reports any MTR (fan motor) or SNS (heat sensor) errors ?
Memory: This is also tested when you run the above but a better check is <a href=http://www.memtestosx.org/">memtest (small charge for the download)
Storage: How much free space left on the drive? When did you last run the 'chron' jobs to clear caches etc?
