Aprture 3.1 upgrade doesn't open Library

After upgrading to v 3.1, and after Aperture prompt me to update the library, one of my libraries cannot be opened anymore, reporting this error message:
"WARNING There was an error opening the database for the library /Volumes/Library/2008.aplibrary"
From my backups I copied an "older" library, and once upgraded I got the same error.
Anybody have an idea regarding the problem?
thanks a lot
G

I have exactly the same issue. I have not tried rebuilding the image db before the upgrade. Now that I try this in 3.0 Aperture claims it cannot open this lib either. I suspect you need lots of scratch space on your boot disk. Possibly enough to load the entire library again. There doesn't seem to be a way to set an alternative disk for scratch during this process. Apple Aperture support, a little help?

  • Since Upgrade,Doesn't Save Library, Startup & Sync Probs, Bought Stuff Lost

    After Upgrading to v9(.0.1):
    http://myitunesproblems.1701.be/
Not only do I have iTunes startup problems, iTunes cannot save it's library anymore. Most of the time iTunes is "missing required files" and when it starts up, it has to do a lot of stuff before being able to run.
Also the synchronisation with my iPod crashed and 20 apps were lost.
It also isn't possible to download any upgrade for the iPod.
Now, I always get a popup window saying the library cannot be saved.
What The F*ck is going on?

*Is the latest version of iTunes (9.0.1) still 100% compatible with Windws-XP? I wonder!*
After starting my Windows-XP computer today, iTunes also was able to startup.
But the playlists seemed to be copied because I have every playlist four times.
    Look here: http://myitunesproblems.1701.be/
Then I connected my iPod Touch and got a popup window saying there is an update (3.1.2), but after starting the download, I got an error again and the iPod didn't show in iTunes an windows anymore.
The iPod itself only kept asking to be connected to iTunes. When I turned it off, it started again by itself. I disconected it from the computer, nothing works. The iPod was useless.
The test said 'no iPod connected' and when I clicked on the 'help' button and went to the apple support website, I was pointed to non existing webpages or one page linked to an other and the other back to the previous. Nice!
At last, I connected the iPod Touch to my girlfriends computer (Windows Vista).
There the iPod was detected by Windows Vista en iTunes.
It said it was an iPod in recovery mode. This iTunes on the Vista PC downloaded the update and installed it. Now I am synchronizing on my own XP-PC.
Until the next time everything crashes, again.

Took my iMac to see a Genious at Apple's Northbrook store.
    He tried:
    Deleting all cache files
    Deleting plist files
Nothing corrected the problem.  He suggested that perhaps deleting thumbnails would help, but since each clip has it's own thumbnails directory, finding/deleting all these files would take a long time for a library as large as mine.  And we wasn't very confident that it would fix my problem.
Ultimately, he recommended that I start over and re-import all of my 100s of GB of footage.
I am not a happy camper.

  • ITunes doesn't open after the first time

Hi, my iTunes after the last upgrading doesn't open. Really it open the first time after starting pc then , when i shut down it seems frozen. Could you help me? Do you ave a solution?

Try following steps and test one at a time:
    1. Restart computer, right mouse click iTunes icon and select "Run As Administrator"
    2. If that does not work, check to see if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    3. If that fails or you don't see ApsDaemon.exe in the Processes, refer to following article to remove SC files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    4. If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REPAIR.

Upgraded to 11.3.1 now can't open library. Won't read. I have an older iMac (2008). Message I get is: cannot be read because was created by newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?' ... so I do and it fixes nothing. Same message again. OS is 10.6.8.

Thanks again. The option thing got me further than I've gotten thus far but when I went to choose a library I got that same message.
I do have options. I have 2 iMacs. I can still access my music through 'sharing' and download it onto my newer iMac. Trouble is it doesn't have a CD port and I like to burn. From what I've read about their new Mac portable CD/DVD drive, it's shaky at best. Incidentally, do you know of any drives that work well with Macs and cost less than $89.00?
I've figured out I can download a previous library from my old Mac then upload it from the new one which should put me back in business, but what do I do with the corrupt one that's there now, just trash it? Also, when I do the option key my other choice is Create A New Library. Should I do that and put the good previous library into it?
Thanks a million, I really appreciate your time. I'm an old fogey and computers often mystify me, especially when they lock me out of things for no apparent reason.

  • Upgrade iPhoto to open iPhoto library after installing iLife 6

I am a real computer novice and just installed iLife6, which I should not have done because now I have no access to my iPhoto library. It tells me I need to upgrade iPhoto to open the library so I selected "upgrade." Then it tells me there is a problem with some of the files and I need to go to Finder, click Get Info and be sure ownership & permissions are Read & Write in the iPhoto Library. I have tried that repeatedly but it tells me I don't have privileges for all I am trying to access. But I am an administrator on the computer, and every possible file I have opened is now Read & Write. But I continue to be stalled out and still cannot open iPhoto Library. I tried copying the iPhoto library to another computer with iLife 6 already installed, and it tells me some of the files in iPhoto can't be imported because they are in iPhoto Library. I am so confused, and now would like to just remove iLife6 from this computer to get back to my original iPhoto so I can access these Photos but I don't know how to do that either. Does anyone have any ideas at all that can help me please?

    svbp:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Give this a try:download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Launch iPhoto and try to update the library again.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Library upgrade doesn't work

My daughter upgraded her Air from 10.8 to 10.10. iPhoto cannot open the library anymore and states that the latest version of iPhoto should be acquired from the App-Store, which isn't there anymore (thanks Apple!).
I sent her the Library Upgrader 1.1, which doesn't do an Upgrade, "..can open with the current version..". This as stated above is reproducible not correct!
    How do I get out
Message was edited by: Frans Zantvoort

    Thanks Terence,
my daughter refuses to use her Air, she viscerally hates updates and has some experiences to support that. I will visit her next weekend and try your suggestion. I guess the old law of computing "never change a running system" is still valid. Apple wouldn't have been so rich if everybody followed it

  • After upgrading to Aperture 3.4 it doesn't open anymore.

After upgrading to Aperture 3.4 it doesn't open anymore. Every listed suggestion in forums did not help.
After repairing till 99% Aperture closed. It happened with all my libraries, small and great. All of them can be opened in iPhoto.
After placing aperture.app to the trash can and putting it back to programs again, after a restart, I even couldn't find in preferences com.apple.aperture.plist file anymore. Apple please help!

After placing aperture.app to the trash can and putting it back to programs again,
How did you put it back to programs? The idea is to make a complete reinstall
    The problem is:
There is a problem with the Aperture installer. In some cases the installation is not complete, if you update on top of a recent version.
For most posters here (there must be 20 and more discussions by now) it helped to reinstall Aperture after removing the Application from the Applications Folder and the reinstalling again.
If you installed Apperture initially from the boxed retail version, reinstall from the CD/DVD.
If you installed from the AppStore, download again from the AppStore.
If you unlocked the Trial or bought online previous to the AppStore, use the saved installer or download the Trial again.
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Aperture/061-8328 .20101020.AprE3/ApertureTrial3.1.dmg
Upgrade immediately after installing the previous version; you cannot open your current library with the previous version.
    Regards
    Léonie
    Just for the record:
    To remove the preferences:
The Preferences are in your User Library, Preferences folder:
The User Library is hidden by default. You can reveal it from the Finder's "GO" menu:
Finder > Go,   then hold down the options ⌥ key, until the Library appears in the drop-down menu, select it and open the Library folder. Then go to the "Preferences" sub folder and remove the file
    your Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist.
But I'd try to reinstall first - removing the preferences will only be a temporary fix, and the crashing may occur again, if you do not fix the broken Aperture installation.

I just downloaded Ilife 9 and now my Iphoto doesn't open. The error message says: You cannot open your library using this version. Quit and use the older version. What can I do?

iLife '09 is not available as a download - it is only available as a purchase
iLife '11 is available as a DVD purchase and the compoments of it are available from the App Store (iPhoto '11 (version 9.1.5), etc)
Exactly what did you do? And exactly what does the error message say?
On the surface it appears that you are attemptying to open a new library with an older version (iPhoto '09 can not open an iPhoto '11 library for example)

  • Old iphoto library from an old computer's hard drive doesn't open anymore

My old computer broke some time ago, but I got the hard drive saved with its iPhoto library. I used to be able to open the old iPhoto from the old computer's hard drive with my new computer connecting them, but now it says that the old iPhoto cannot be opened because I have to update to a newer version, but the only button I can press is 'quit'. So I don't know how to get a newer version of iPhoto to my old hard drive or how to get the pictures out of the old iPhoto. I have a separate iPhoto in my new computer.
When I press 'show content' of the old iPhoto, there are no pictures anywhere.
Please help, I have my old pictures there!
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Petra

I used to be able to open the old iPhoto from the old computer's hard drive with my new computer connecting them, but now it says that the old iPhoto cannot be opened because I have to update to a newer version, but the only button I can press is 'quit'.
Petra, do you mean, you opened the old iPhoto application from the old computer on your new computer or did you open the iPhoto Library?
If you have a newer iPhoto version on your new computer, try to open your old iPhoto Library with the newer iPhoto version on your new Mac.
What was the old iPhoto version on the old Mac, and which version do you have now? And which version of MacOS X?
If you now have iPhoto 9.5.1 on your new computer, launch this version while holding down the options key (sometimes called alt key). This will bring up the library chooser panel. Select the old library on your old drive.  iPhoto should offer to upgrade the library., unless your old library has been created by a very old iPhoto version.
If the old library had been created with iPhoto '08 or earlier, you need first to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader to prepare the library.
See this document: iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
After running the upgrader, proceed as described above.

  • IPhoto wont open library after upgrade

I just updated to iLife 11 and iPhoto will not open. I get the following message:
You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
This library must be upgraded by the iPhoto Library Upgrader application before you can use it with iPhoto. Please reinstall iPhoto from your iLife disc.
Where do I get the iPhoto Library Upgrader application from?

    James:
Make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
Hopefully one of these will work and you won't have to resort to Fix #4, starting over with a new library and importing the original files from the current library.

It would be really helpful to be able to get back to work.....anyone help??

    Hi Williemann,
Not sure if this will help but I was having a similar situation for Aperture as well.  I thought that I would take advantage of Apple Care (worth every penny)  so I called them up.  The hardware guy wasnt all that helpful altough he did try.  He then connected me to the software folks and they walked me through these steps.

They then sent me a link to the support page where the steps are loacated.
    Hope this helps!
