APs not getting IP addresses on Server 2008r2

Has anyone seen this?  We had about 30 APs drop off the network after a controller upgrade and had to be manually assigned an address.  We found that the APs are DHCP and have a reservation in the excluded range of the scope.  In the new version of DHCP in Server 2008r2, even with a reservation in an excluded range, DHCP will not issue those addresses to clients.  Deleting the reservation and letting the AP find a valid address in the range didn't work either.

Where are your APs?  Are they directly connected to your 2106, or are they connected to a switch like normal?
Assuming connected to a switch, the WLC config is irrelevant to an AP getting an IP address.  Whatever vlan your APs are in, they'll do a broadcast dhcp request and you'll need an ip helper-address or something to get it to your dhcp server..............
So do you see any kind of dhcp request make it to your server?
If this is directly connected APs, then perhaps someone else on the forum can share thier experience with this?

  • Guest users not getting IP address

I am setting up Cisco wireless along with ISE 1.3 for guest wireless.  The client is going to use the self-registration portal for guest wireless users.  I followed this Cisco doc to configure the self-registration portal:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/identity-services-engine/118742-configure-ise-00.html
I tested this in my home lab and everything works fine.  However, at the client users are not getting IP addresses from the DHCP server.  This is the same DHCP server that is used for corporate wireless and if you connect that SSID, you get an IP address.  I have looked what I configured at home and the client and everything looks the same.  In the back of my mind, I feel something is missing, but I can't figure out what it is.
Edit: Not sure if this makes a difference or not, but they are using a Nexus 5K for their core switch and it hosts the SVI for this network.
Let me know what information you need and I will post it.
    TIA,
    Dan

    Hello,
    Some verifications below :
Did you verify if DHCP Proxy is enabled in wlc's wlan interface ? Case DHCP proxy is disabled, did you verify if the ip helper address is enabled in Nexus SVI ?
DHCP Scope is enabled in the DHCP Server or is enabled in the WLC ?
Verify if Trunk in the switch is enabled correctly passing all VLANs to WLANs ?
Verify if ACL to redirect configured in the WLC is allowing DHCP Server and DHCP Client to client receive IP Address and ports 8443 to Cisco ISE and DNS to resolve some address and get access to ISE Portal ?
The scenario is Local Switching or Central Switching ?

  • DHCP via Hyper-V VM, Server2012r2 Hyper-V host, clients not getting IP address

You have to authorize a dhcp server as Britv8 says. That's the only way it'll start dishing out leases. That's standard for Windows DHCP server in an AD Domain.
Also there's 0 reason to mention Hyper-V here. The whole point of virtualization is to do hardware level abstraction.

    I recently encountered this. Setup:
Initial setup of the system was at a different location from its final destination, with different network equipment (switches) between the two. No teaming is involved, however.
Set up the system at its final destination, with DHCP via a Hyper-V VM (Server2012r2), Server2012r2 Hyper-V host, physical clients on the lan were not getting IP address.
The physical server box has a 4-port Intel Gigabit ethernet card.
I moved the setup (Hyper-V Virtual Switch manager) so that the interface for the DHCP server VM was isntead using one of two built-in Broadcom adapters.
    While this topic seemed promising,
    http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/251317-hyper-v-vm-not-leasing-ip-s-dhcp
unfortunately, "fiddling about" was not what I was looking for as possible solution.

  • LAN was down ie Users are not getting ip from DHCP server after enabling DHCP snooping

    Hi All ,
Enclosed file has network connectivity diagram.
    1. L3 vlan's ie 2,3,4,5 and 6 are configured on ACC-CR1 and ACC-CR2.
2.Trunk is configured between Core switches ( CR1 and CR2) and access switches .VTP mode is transparent on all switches.L2 vlans are configured on all access switches.
3.DHCP is server is located at different location and is reachable over MPLS.
Without enabling dhcp snooping , users connected to access switches (Sw1,sw2,sw3 and Sw4 ) are getting ip address from DHCP server without any problem and everything is working fine.
But users connected to Sw3 and Sw4 are getting ip address from rouge DHCP server which is not pingable from any one of the switch.
So we have configured DHCP snooping for all vlan's on CR1 , CR2 , SW3 and SW4 and "trusted uplink ports" which are connected to WAN routers from CR1 and CR2  and also "trusted uplink ports " of Sw3 and Sw4 which are connected to CR1 and CR2.
As soon we have enabled DHCP snooping and trusted respective uplink ports , users are not getting ip address from remote DHCP server and even users connected to Sw1 and SW2 are facing same issue.
Note : DHCP snooping is not configured on SW1 and SW2.
Why users are not getting ip address from remote DHCP server as soon as we enabled dhcp snooping on Core switches and two access switches ie sw3 and sw4 ? what could have caused DHCP packets to be dropped ? Any idea would be appreciated .

    Hi,
as you say: " HSRP is configured between CR1 and CR2 and Vlans are active on CR1" does it mean there are L3 intrefaces configured in each VLAN on your CR switches and ip hepler-address pointing to the remote DHCP server is configured on each of them?
I know it's difficult in a productive environment but IMHO you need to find out where are the DHCP offers dropped.
Either by enabling DHCP debugging or by capturing packets via Wireshark, e.g.

  • Clients not getting DHCP from external server

    Hi,
I have a 4402 (version 7.0.235) working with 10 units of 1121 APs connected to it. The WLC is not configured to work in LAG mode. Physical portt #1 is connected to the Main Switch (trunk). I have 3 WLAN mapped to 3 Different VLAN and Everything (security and internal, external DHCP) is working swell...
Now- I have connected Physical port #2 directly to an ADSL Router (giga port), Configured Port 2 as untaggedwith the proper IP details.
I have configured this interface to receive DHCP from the ADSL Router and for some reason, Clients are not getting addresses.
When I assign a Static address to my laptop I get internet access and all is nice. I tried configuring The WLC internal DHCP server (instead of the ADSL router) and that didn't help. It seems like a DHCP problem but I dont understand the source of the problem of think of the solution.
When turning off the proxy settings I noticed that it helped. Is there anything to do with that? The problem was that after a while the other WLANs starting causing DHCP issues as well.
What is supposed to be configured? Any Expert is the House?
    I attached a crappy drawing..

    Hi Scott,
    Thanks for your answer.
So what you are basicly saying is that I have 2 choices: 1 - disable the Proxy option on the WLC and work with external DHCP servers (internal will not work when this is enabled). 2 - Enable the Proxy option and only work with the WLC internal DHCP.
I have installed many WLCs this way, having Different DHCP Servers (external and internal)  for multiple WLANs.
What do you think may be different this time? The router that I am using isn't the most expencive but it is providing DHCP to other clients (wired client) with no problems.
    Thanks!!!

  • Cisco Flex Connect and users can not get IP Address by WAN

    Hello my name is Ivan
I have a wlc 5508 with license base to 50 aps, i use a deployment flex connect. I already registered all my access points, I use web authentication to authenticate users guest, and the service dhcp is in the central site.
My issue is the users in each remote site, can not get an ip address by dhcp from the central site, they can authenticate in the guest ssid, but any users can not get an ip.
The request is passing by the wan in this way
Central Site DHCP - Router WAN - Remote Site - Users with notebooks. I use flex connect central deployment (all the traffic consulting to the wlc) .
perhaps i should use local deploy? The wlc is in the central site.
Can you help me to resolving this issue please? , perhaps any advice?
    Regards
    Ivan.

    Thanks Osita
If I configure Central Authentication and  I configure central switching I need to create a dynamic interafce for each remote site and each dynamic interface associated with a different VLAN ID, because I can not associate a single interface dynamic to the same  VLAN ID, but in my case the client remote in each remote site have the same network segment with the same VLAN ID with the same SSID for guests. My goal is to configure web authentication with the local DHCP server at each remote site, will this work?.Each remote site have its own server dhcp.
If I configure authentication central authentication with central switching with web authenticacion as I set in my scenario?
My issues are the interfaces dynamics, because I have the same network to the customer guest with the same ID VLan in each remote site

  • Urgent help? for Standalone AP users are not getting ip addresses

    Dear friends,
i have  Cisco LAP1140 series access points and i wanted to use them as autonomous , so i converted their ios from light weight to autonomous to
    c1140-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA  image.
    my network senario is
CORE SW +  Access SW  + Access points
    Core SW:
act as a dhcp server for wireless user
for WLAN vlan 16 is configured on it
configured dhcp pool here for vlan 16
    Access SW:
access points are cooneted with it
and every switch port assign to vlan 16 that is connected to AP
    Standalone Access Points:
connected to access switch and have assigned static management IPs from vlan 16 that i have excluded in DHCP Pool in core switch.
configure only one ssid and broadcast
both radio 5ghz and 4.2 ghz are up
i can ping the gateway from each Access point to core switch
but the users can not get the ip address from the ssid that is configured on APs.
below is the attached of  configuration of the access point
please review the configuration and advise me where i have mistaken and what i have missing in the configuration?
please reply me ASAP because this is very urdent for me and your reply is very important for me
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply Ven
actually i did not check that and it does make sence too may be problem with DHCP Scope
but you know why i did not check because there is an other scope on the core switch for Data users only the difference
    of vlan numbers and names
but that data vlan users are getting ip addresses and connect normally to internet.
did you view the configuration that i attached with my 1st post?
if no please view it and advise me if i have any missing there.
further i ll check for DHCP in the morning to connect my laptop dirct with switch port to is that getting ip address or no.
    Thanks

    Hello Eric,
As per your query i can suggest you the following solution-
You need to connect the AP with the switch for power. The dhcp proxy is really not needed. Another thing you can do is unplug the WLC from your switch, then make sure your APs are clean (wiped) then plug the APs into the switch and console into one of them and watch the boot up process to make sure that they are at least requesting an IP address.  If they can request an IP successfully then your dhcp problem has something to do with how you have your WLC set up.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Mail not getting all messages from server and other strange behavior

    Hello All,
Mail has been doing some odd things for me of late (at least the last week) and I'm lost for a solution to my problem. As far as I can tell, perhaps my Prefs. have become corrupted, or at least something in relation to Mail has become corrupted. Perhaps someone has a solution to this issue before I have to back it all up and NUKE the whole **** app to get back up and running properly.
The main issue I appear to be having is that Mail is not getting all of my Mail messages from my server. I can log into my web-mail interface provided by my domain host and can see there that there are many e-mails that don't appear to be coming down the pipe to the Mail.app client. I'm getting some e-mail's but not all....
*Here are all the things that I've checked:*
    • The missing e-mails are not being picked up as Junk and are not in the Junk folder
    • I have done a search within Mail for the missing e-mail's and nothing turns up anywhere.
    • I have checked on the server end that I'm not maxing out my InBox or that there are any other service issues from my domain host provider.
    • I have been into Prefs and checked my account settings - most (see below) of which appear to be as normal and are fine.
*Here are the weird things that I've noticed:*
    • When I went into the Prefs. for the account in question, I noticed that my login had changed. For example - it usually it is "[email protected]", however it had seemed to have changed to just "johndoe" - I know this wasn't me as my domain host will not allow me to access any mail unless the login is the full mail address.
    • In RULES, every rule I double click to check on seems mostly fine, apart from the fact that every "Account is:" the pull down menu just appears as blank. Usually it says "Account is: ([email protected])"
It's there last 2 items that make me think something is corrupted - so I guess my question is, what pref or file has corrupted and how can I fix it without having to give Mail.app a digital enema?
Any assistance would be most helpful - missing some but not all your incoming e-mail messages is quite annoying, as you can guess...!
    Thanks,
    Boz

    Hello Boz.
This appears to be a rules issue. Mail is almost certainly downloading those messages, but they’re probably being processed by your rules in an unexpected way — given the information you’ve provided, maybe because there is something wrong with the file where the account settings are stored.
Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting this information easier, you may open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
    <hr>
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Write down your Mail > Preferences > Accounts settings or take screen shots of them.
    2. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    3. Quit Mail.
    4. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the Mail folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    5. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this solves the problem). If you have a backup of your data that includes a working copy of this file, you may try restoring it from the backup to avoid steps 6-8.
    6. Open Mail. You’ll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
    7. You’ll have to re-configure some of your Mail > Preferences settings. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    8. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
    9. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
    <hr>
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Not getting Page from Prod server

    Hi All,
I have set two pager email Id in my prod server
I have a job when this job succeed then it will send a page to both email ID
Job ran successfully and both Email ID did not get any single page about this
when I checked in operator history in Most recent notification it shows that page has been sent on expected time.
Same I have try with Dev server it's working fine Only difference in Pro and Dev job is: In prod job taking 4 hour and in Dev job taking 5 min.

Yes Job history shows success  (Operator Paged
    SQLDBAONCALL)
Email profiles are also fine  (I am getting mail for other job  )
there is no log for in sql server as well as sql server agent error log
Dev and prod are using same mail ID
    Hi ImranKazi,
According to your description, the operator does not receive an e-mail in Production environment. I recommend you configure database mail in Production environment, then send a test e-mail to the operator’s e-mail address. We need to verify if your profile
and account are configured correctly. For more information, see:
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/29060/SQL-SERVER-Configure-Database-Mail-Send-Email
After setting up database mail successfully, if you want to set  up an alert to an e-mail operator with a message, you need to define an operator and alert , restart SQL Agent to activate settings. When you execute the job successfully,
it will send an alert to the operator. I have done a test in SQL Server 2012, it can run well. There is an similar issue about
how to setup SQL Server alerts and email operator notifications, you can review it.

  • Cisco ISE 1.2, Clients not getting IP address in closed mode

Hello, I am running closed mode on my switchports. I have an issue where some clients come in in the morning, try to login, and will not get network access. I see that this is because they do not get an IP address. I am using MAB for authentication currently. They appear to MAB correctly and get Authorized in ISE, but they do not get an IP. Therefore, they also do not get the DACL of permit ANY. It's like the port gets de-authenticated during the night. Usually when the machine is rebooted it will come up with an IP address. Here is my switchport config...

  • AP not getting ip address assigned.

    Hi all,
I have a problem with my AIR-AP1041N-E-K9, i do not seem to get an ip-address assigned after a reset to factory defaults.
I do see the AP with CDP:
    Device-ID: ap
    Advertisement version: 2
    Platform: cisco AIR-AP1041N-E-K9
    Capabilities: TransBridge IGMP
Interface: gi5, Port ID (outgoing port): GigabitEthernet0

So that should mean that layer 2 connectivity is fine.
I have the AP connected to a cisco SG300 switch, and assigned  switchport trunk allowed vlan's: 1,3,4,8.
    Can someone help me?

I also noticed that when i connect to the AP via console-cable, i can see the AP boot up in the console session, but then i do not get a login prompt, but it seems like the AP is responding; if i shutdown the interconnecting link between the switch and the AP, i do see log messages appearing in the console-connection.
I have tried to debug on the Switch, but i need a password, so i can debug, which i do not have.,

    Hi, thanks for your reply,
I'm should be getting my ip via DHCP(as i believed that this is the way that the AP searches for an ip, when it has no config yet). The DHCP-server is configured on a cisco 871 router that is connected to the switch, as i found no option to configure it on my switch, which is in layer 3 mode. The DHCP-pool is assigned to the vlan(native) 1 address-range(in this case 192.168.0.x/24). I also have configured a range for my workstations, and here i do get Ip-addresses assigned.
The AP does not connect to a Wireless controller. Also i have checked my inter-vlan routing on my switch, and i have connectivity to all vlans, so i believe my AP should have connectivity to the DHCP-server configured on the router.
Ping-test from switch shows no issues:
    Swouter#ping 192.168.0.1
Pinging 192.168.0.1 with 18 bytes of data:
    18 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=1. time=0 ms
    18 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=2. time=0 ms
    18 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=3. time=0 ms
    18 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=4. time=0 ms
    ----192.168.0.1 PING Statistics----
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss

  • Wifi clients not getting IP addresses

    Hello Experts,
I have a Cisco 1140 AP, and using express setup I have cnofigured a IP address to it. This AP is connected to our public network and is configured with a public ip address. We want the guest users to connect to Wifi and gain access to Internet.
While the users connect to Wifi, I find their laptops getting IP address in series 169.x.x.x due to which they are unable to get to internet.
Can somebody guide to what all configuration required so that laptops would get ip address?
    Thanks
    Arvind

    Hello George,
I do not have any DHCP server, I want the AP to allocate IP addresses to wifi clients.
    Anshul,
Is there any way the AP distribute the IP addresses? I want to have the AP act as an DHCP server and allocate IP address of wifi clients.
If this is not possible in this AP model 1142N, any other Cisco AP model available, which can act as DHCP server?
    My requirement basically is:
The AP should allocate IP in the range 192.168.x.x and I would connect the AP to the public network. The wifi clients should be able to get to Internet.
Please suggest any other model in Cisco which should meet my requirement.
    Thanks
    Arvind
