Apt-cacher-ng : a cache server for... Pacman (and APT)

Hello !
I just adopt apt-cacher-ng on AUR, because I'm using it for APT (I use debootstrap and chrooted environments) and it help me saving a lot of bandwith (531Mb today).
So here is the package if you are insterested :
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40662
I've seen in the main configuration file that it can be used for Archlinux. So I did it
I will share my configuration in this topic.
Configuration
The main file is /etc/apt-cacher-ng/acng.conf
I'm using apt-cacher-ng only on my laptop :
BindAddress: localhost
Here are some Remap lines for Debian repositories (including security) :
Remap-debrep: file:deb_mirror*.gz /debian ; file:backends_debian
Remap-debsec: /security ; http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian-security
This is the line for Archlinux
Remap-alxrep: file:archlx_mirrors /archlinux ; file:backend_archlx # incomplete, please create this file or specify preferred mirrors here
Here is a very permissive addition to the VfilePattern regex to allow the *db files (needed for pacman -Sy)
VfilePattern = (^|.*?/)(Index|Packages\.bz2|Packages\.gz|Packages|Release|Release\.gpg|Sources\.bz2|Sources\.gz|Sources|release|index\.db-.*\.gz|Contents-[^/]*\.gz|pkglist[^/]*\.bz2|rclist[^/]*\.bz2|/meta-release[^/]*|Translation[^/]*\.bz2|.*\.db)$
Just put in the file /etc/apt-cacher-ng/backend_archlx your nearest mirror without the "$repo/os/$arch" part :
In my case :
echo http://mir.archlinux.fr/ > /etc/apt-cacher-ng/backend_archlx
Usage
You can now restart apt-cacher-ng
rc.d restart apt-cacher-ng
Here is your new /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist !
Server = http://localhost:3142/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
Just in case, here is a minimal /etc/apt/sources.list for Debian :
deb http://localhost:3142/debian squeeze main contrib
deb http://localhost:3142/security squeeze/updates main contrib
Reflector
If you want to use the very last synced archlinux repositories, with reflector, you can do something like that
rc.d stop apt-cacher-ng
reflector -p http -l 1 --sort rate | grep -o -e 'http://[^\$]*' > /etc/apt-cacher-ng/backend_archlx
rc.d start apt-cacher-ng

psi.neamf wrote:
Hi, thx for info. Just checking with  file:archlx_mirrors
that file needs to be created as well? Can I leave it
out and just have -> Remap-alxrep: /archlinux ; file:backend_archlx
I suppose I can just test it. I read the docs, but they are a bit confusing :-)
I'm not sure and I'm not a master of apt-cacher-ng Precise documentation is here :
http://www.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/~bloch/acn … tml#repmap
The file archlx_mirrors is in the package, and contains a list of mirrors.
The second part of Remap- line, TargetURLs, is optional.
Just try and give your results here please

  • Mac OS X attempts to poll server for PortMixerProvider and DirectAudioDevic

When running my applet on Mac OS X using Safari and Firefox, for the most part,
sound seems to work, but sometimes our game screen hiccups while the
applet tries to search our server for PortMixerProvider and
DirectAudioDeviceProvider [See Java Console output at the bottom of

It seems that the applet is searching in the server location of the

but then I don't understand why I sometimes hear sound without
    incident.
As this is happening during game play, I need to find a solution to either stop these requests to the server or at least delay them until the end of the game session.

I have more background on this problem, but no solution. I see this happening everytime I try to record audio using my applet running under Firefox 3 (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061004 Firefox/3.0) and OS X 10.5.3.
The program runs perfectly using the AppletViewer.
I created a JAR file, sunaudio.jar, containing the com.sun.media.audio classes and the JavaSound SPI meta-files, put it in the same directory as my applet's JAR and changed my Web page to look like
    <applet ... archive="myapplet.jar,sunaudio.jar">
    </applet>
... and though I could see the browser request and receive the sunaudio.jar file from the server, it nevertheless requested com/sun/media/sound/DirectAudioDeviceProvider.class immediately thereafter.
Have you submitted a bug to Apple? If not, I will.

  • Single directory Server for Messaging and Portal

We are trying to unify our directory services.
At present, there two directory servers, one for iPlanet messaging 5.2 and another for Portal server 6.0.
Messaging's Directory server is v5.1 and Portal's Directory server is v5.2. Their BaseDN is same.
Now, What we are planning to do is as below.
    1. LDIF everything from Msgr Directory and import into Portal's Directory.
    2. Point Msg Server to the Portal's directory.
But, we are not sure what to export or how to tell messaging server to look at the Portal's Directory. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks
    Srini

What you are trying to do is non-trivial.
Setting the ldap server for user and groups on the mail server is easy enough -- look at the output of configutil and you will find the values of local.ugldap*
define the values you need to change.
    e.g.:
    local.ugldapbasedn
    local.ugldapbindcred
    local.ugldapbinddn
    local.ugldaphost
    local.ugldapport
    etc.
These are all listed in the messaging reference manual.
You need to ensure that the schemas of the two apps. match. For example, if you are using schema 1 for mail and schema 2 for the portal (quite likely), there will be a lot more work to do on the directory than simply moving the user entries accross and merging them.
Unless you have done this sort of thing before, or feel very comfortable and knowlegable about how the messaging server in partuicular works with LDAP, I would suggest that you seriously consider getting help from Sun Professonal Services.

  • Possible to create local "update server" for iOS and apps?

I use the software update server in OSX Server to locally cache updates, which speeds them up dramatically.
Unfortunately, the app store is still fairly slow.
Does anyone know if Apple has implemented the same sort of caching or update server for iOS devices? I think I read that there's a semi-transparent cache if you have an AirPort Extreme in your path to the Internet, but I don't and really couldn't even if I wanted to...
    Thanks.

If apple would get thier crap together it is supposed to be there already. It is really ******* me off that there little to no effort from apple to get all of this working PRE OS release. Had this worked properly before the OS update schools across the country would probably not been brought to thier knees. I ended up having to block the entier apple domain to keep District Office online.
Here is apples promise at the iOS launch.
    http://www.apple.com/ios/business/
Caching Server 2 supports iOS 7.
By caching purchased content and software updates on a local Mac running OS X Mavericks Server, Caching Server 2 speeds up the download and delivery of content through the App Store, Mac App Store, iTunes Store and iBookstore. Your users get faster downloads of content and updates to their iOS devices directly over your corporate network.

  • Where to start with a licensing server for Mac and Windows

    Hi all,
We have quite a mixture of OSX and Windows across the hundreds of computers we are running. We are on a volume key for all the CS3 products we buy but we still deploy them manually on a MAC but use specops (AD deployment) for the PC). There are some patches now for CS3 and for the MAC we would need to deploy it manually to a large number of machines.
What I want to do is a) set up a server for deploying software and managing the licenses and b) deploying packages for patches or getting the machines to connect to a deployment server.
I have been looking around the Adobe site but I can't find anything that outlines what I need to do to get started with this.
Thanks for any info that can be provided.
    Steven

Likely your best option is to go for some 3rd party software.
As for license tracking you could look into license statistics:

  • Using a single Content server for DMS and also for Archive link documents

    Hi,
We have Planned for a single content server for managing the documents in DMS, parallelly as DMS Standard SAP objects are not available for all SAP transactions, i have proposed for making use of SAP Archivelink funtionality to maintain the documentations where Std SAP DMS does not provide a Solution.
    so here the question is
can a single content server be used as a content repository for Both DMS and archivelink,
can any one having done this pls state if it is possible to create different or Many Content repositories for DMS, Archive link in the same server,
is this a virtual creation or can we assign each repository a specific storage space which it should not exceed.
    Thanks and regards
    Sathish

    Hi sathish,
-- Through the ArchiveLink docuemnt Management interface, an SAP sytem can use various content servers as storage media. similarly, one contnent server can be used by multiple SAP systems.
-- A Content server always has a single database assigned to it. A database can therefore be used by only one content server.
-- A databse is split into as many repositories as necessary. The design of the repository is mapped in the SAP system.A repository contains documents.
Depending on your requirements,(if u have limited documents or with low requirements)  you can use the same content server for both DMS and Archivelink.
The number of documents stored on the content server is limited only by the size of the database.
Its better to have an external content server for archiving purpose, if your database size is increasing. Since the archiving systems storage is not dependent on the database.
U can also refer to the below thread :
How to Archive SAP DMS Data?
    hope this helps....

SoFS is a good choice for a) Hyper-V and b) SQL Server (anything working with a big files like VHDX and MDF). For a bunch of a small files IIS has in a shared directories SoFS is not going to work and it's cleary said in the documentation. See:

So in your case just an ordinary clustered file servers should be enough. See:

  • Disaster Recovery server for SAP and HACMP Cluster script for SAP ECC 6.0

    Hi,
I need  document for Disaster Recovery server for SAP? I have to configure the DR Server If you have, please share this document if possible.
Have you any cluster script ( HACMP Cluster script for SAP ECC 6.0 ) ?
    Thanks & Regards,

Hello, I'm doing a "Plant ECC6 to do a test disatre / Recovery.
During the installation, I would use the same <sidadm> existing as it is in the PRD.
If I tell you to install it during the same <sidadm> it will overwrite what already exists, or do I just enter the password of existing <sidadm>?

  • Proxy / Cache server for flash content / videos / stream

    hi there,
i've tried to search the web, but so far no straight answer...
we are looking to implement/deploy a proxy server to cache and then serve flash content (published in the internet), so we can reduce our internet bandwidth utilization. Windows Server 2008 has Windows Media Services which have a feature to cache windows media content or split live stream. (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/howto/articles/cache_proxy.aspx)
is there a similar product to deal with flash content?
thanks in advance for all responses!

I'm more or less in the same boat. I've got the admin console
up. I am able to run the vodtest application locally pointing the
video file to rtmp://localhost/vod/sample.flv or using the server
name instead of localhost as in rtmp://mclmedia/vod/sample.flv
I can also load the html and swf file to my xp machine that
has access to the server via our internal network. (DNS isn't
configured yet) But the connectionFailed message appears when I try
to call the videos using rtmp://mclmedia/vod/sample.flv

  • [Solved] Replacing package cache directory for pacman

    Hi
I want to replace "/var/cache/pacman/pkg" by "/home/zetro/linux/arch/pkg" for caching pacman packages, so that pacman always looks and saves packages in /home/zetro/linux/arch/pkg. Can I do it by simply uncommenting
    #CacheDir = /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
line in /etc/pacman.conf or is there anything else to do?
    Regards

I'm not sure if paccache picks the cachedir from pacman.conf, I think you may need to specify it with the '-c' switch.
    Just something to remember.

  • Cache server for SAP PLM

    Hi,
Has anyone used any cache servers along with KPRO/content servers.
We have a multi site rollout and intend to limit the load on the content servers.
We have users located in three different continents, but there is going to be only one content server (in asia).
Now that we have decided to go with cache servers are we supposed to install these servers in all the three continents locally ??
    regards
    abhishek
    Edited by: abhishek_chowdhury02 on Apr 6, 2011 1:08 PM

    Thanks Ulf,
So does that mean that KPRO server resides in headquarters while locally we will have cache servers.
Each of the cache servers connect to the central KPRO server.
    Is this understanding correct ?

  • Check on the server for IO and processes

    Hi Pros.
Does anyone have a script (or set of commands) that I can run next time I suspect there is a "network issue" affecting EBS performance?
This has been happening a lot lately on one server. I check all Oracle services and database and all looks fine, but still the responsiveness of EBS is patchy.
I suspect it is I/O, and would like to guage how much I/O stats / I/O waits, or processes on the server that may be responsible.
Is there a way to quicky check for these? I would like to be more sepcific in my response next time!

  • Using CRX as Document Server for PDF and Office Docs

    Hi All,
I my organization we have got lots of PDF , Word,PPT and video on stored on CQ server along with webpage. I am suggesting it to store webpages on CQ/AEM server and rest of the documents on CRX server and access those documents via Sling URL’s.
Is anyone foreseeing any risk in this approach or should we store all documents in another AEM server. We just need to use indexing, ACL’s on these documents and my understanding is standalone CRX can do this job .
    Thanks,
    Manish

    Thanks for your response.
Yes i mean separate CRX to store document high level architecture will be as below
I have done the POC all working fine. By moving contents to another CRX server we will significantly reduce completion time of indexing, backup , garbage collector and tar optimization jobs on AEM server as a result we will improve performance and reliability. I am wondering how others companies are managing large CQ repository   in other organization.

  • Firefox has been strongly suggesting I update, which I've tried, but I just get the "barber pole" wait with message "connecting to the update server" for hours and nothing happens

Firefox has been suggesting I update my software for a few weeks now. I happily click on "update now" and my Mac appears to be trying to connect to the update server. The window displays "Downloading Firefox" and the barber pole wait bar is moving. I've done this 5-6 times, for HOURS at a time, and nothing happens.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • ASA as DHCP server for WLC2106 and LAP

    Hi,
First off i aplolgize for asking something that seems to have been asked before but i am getting conflicting answers and wanted someone to give a definitive answer.
    Setup:
         ASA5505  ---------------- WS-C3750G -----------------WLC2106  -------------------------------AIR-LAP1131
(DHCP SERVER)           (simple config)          (dhcp proxy disabled)           (is requesting dhcp from ASA)
    ASA5505 - ASA 8.2(1)
    WLC2106 - 7.0.98.0 (tried 6.0.99.4 as well)
    AIR-LAP1131 - 12.4(23c)JA
    Problem:
The ASA5505 is giving addresses to multiple devices, i tested it with the AP plugged directly into the ASA and it worked great.  The problem is that the WLC2106 seems to be altering the DHCP requests somehow and thus making the ASA5505 not respond to them.  The AP gets an ip address and associates to the WLC if plugged into the 3750, or the ASA directly.  Just not when plugged into the WLC2106 ports.
    Research:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/1268269#1268269

    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/926529#926529
I have read quite a few posts with people basically saying you cannot use the ASA as the DHCP server with the WLC because of how the WLC relays the requests.  BUT: (this is important)  There are some documents that say with WLC version 4.2 and above you have the option of turning off dhcp proxy mode to enable bridging mode thus elminating the probem and all DHCP requests get forwarded without modification.  Please see here for suggested solution to this issue:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_tech_note09186a0080af5d13.shtml#topic2
*Interoperability issues can exist between a controller with DHCP proxy enabled and devices acting as both a firewall and DHCP server. This is most likely due to the firewall component of the device as firewalls generally do not respond to proxy requests. To work around this issue, disable DHCP proxy on the controller.
    Help please:
I have tried this but maybe im missing something.  I have tried with proxy enabled and disabled.  Can anyone verify this is supposed to work for me please?  I input "config dhcp proxy disable" and verified proxy is now disabled.  Yet i do not see any responces from my DHCP server to my AP's requests when going through the WLC.  It works fine when plugging the AP into the ASA or 3750.  DHCP server is working.  Is the above suggested work around not a valid solution?  Did i miss something?  Do i need specific software versions on my devices?  Is this a bug in my software versions?
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Let me know if anyone has questions.  Thanks,
    Kyle

I do not see any debug output on the ASA5505 when the AP is connected through the WLC.  Debug output from WLC2106 below:

It keeps seeing the Discover messages but never gets any responce from the ASA.  What does that message mean "dropping REQUEST from STA with invalid mobility state 'Unassociated'" ?  I know the STA is the AP but why is it dropping the request?
Here is the debug output from the ASA:
    ASA5505lab#  show debug
debug dhcpd packet enabled at level 128
debug dhcpd event enabled at level 128

(IT NEVER SEE'S ANY MESSAGES OR SHOWS ME ANY BLOCKED REQUESTS OR ANYTHING)
(Now if i move the AP to the PoE ports directly on the ASA5505 you will see the AP get an IP)

So the ASA5505 is working when the AP is plugged directly into the ASA or a 3750 on the same network.  Only when connected through the WLC i do not see any messages on the ASA.  Is there something else i need setup on the WLC2106 besides turning off dhcp proxy?
    Thanks,
